  I want to build an online quiz test site. Suppose, exam will start at 10:00 am and a student login to give exam at 9:45 am. Whenever the student clicks 'Take Exam' button, he/she cannot not get access to the question paper because the exam time is 10:00 am and there are still 15 minutes before the exam start. Now I want to put some Javascript or PHP code that will prohibit the students to give exam earlier and if a students come early, it will show a stopwatch which display the remaining time before exam time and when the current time is equal to exam time then he/she will be directly redirected to the question paper page.

• Is there anything like Zope Page Templates for Ruby on Rails?

  I have a Ruby on Rails app that I built myself, but which needs a redesign by a professional designer. I know most designers just give you Photoshop mockups and slices, but I would like to hire someone to implement the design as well, which means rewriting the css style sheets and the erb and haml templates. The problem is that I want someone else to implement the redesign without exposing my business logic code to the redesign implementer. Also, I wish there was a way to allow a designer to implement a redesign on a Ruby on Rails site without having to know anything about Ruby on Rails. Are either of these scenarios possible using any combination of software tools?   Hi, I'm having trouble doing the following: I have a big PDF file that I converted to postscript (for commercial printing). The resulting file is too big to be processed by the printer (machine). I've been trying to find a way to either: Convert from the original (many pages) PDF file to many Postscript file (one postcript file per PDF page in original PDF file(. Convert from PDF to PS (or even EPS). - I managed to do this Then split the PS file into a collection of smaller files. I've tried using Ghostscript, but it is all gibberish to me. Thanks. PS. If you have a good GS tutorial (for dummies?), please share the link.

• How do I add a loading indicator to my page while my iframe loads?

  I am currently creating a page where upon clicking a link an iframe is inserted into a div and it's contents loaded. I do this using the following jQuery call: $('#mydiv').html('<iframe src="sourcelink.html" frameborder="0" width="760" height="2400" scrolling="no"></iframe>'); Sometimes the source content loads very slowly and, as a result, it looks like nothing is happening. I would like to have a simple loading animation while the content is loading while the iframe's content loads. When the iframe finishes loading it's content should pop in and the loading animation should go away. I've been considering a couple ways I could do this (e.g. having a separate loader div to simply swap the two in and out) but I'm not sure of what the 'best' approach to solving this problem is. Perhaps I shouldn't be using .html()? I'm open to suggestion if there is a more correct solution.

• Using vim, how do you quickly refresh a web page you're working on?

  I've been using VIM for a few weeks now while messing with various web languages and I'm really enjoying it. I find it cumbersome having to tab or click into my browser and refresh the page to see the effect of a code change. It's even more annoying as I'm using Virtual Box and I tend to be working from PDF files on the host system so I have limited window space. Do you gurus have any fancy ways of doing this? I was wondering if it's possible to split the VIM workspace and have links/lynx in a window of its own or something to that effect?

• Is it possible to run node script from a web page as differnt user?

  I'am searching for days now but could not get an answer. I would like to do the following: User connects to editor.html (Apache2 with basic http auth) User want to open a file on the server with his user/pass (same as in passwd) Node.js Script gets startet with user rights from above and user can edit file The Node Script will handly the connection via websockets and read/writes files. I think the biggest problem is that its not possible to run a node script on the server from a web page... and I don´t want to involve any php/cgi scripts... only Apache and Node.js / JS.   Hi there, my situation is the following: I have a project with JSP, Struts and a lot of actions. Lets say that I have these 3 main groups {contacts.do, calendar.do and notes.do} with lot of actions in each of them. I have an action unrelated to all of them but since I didn't know where to put it I just chose contacts. My aim is after the action, to go back to the page I was but since the action is place in contacts it returns to the default action of contacts. Is there anything I could do for this purpose? • Prevent hash navigation url

  I have the following problem: I'm using a slider (coda) to let people navigate trough some 'pages'. The slider uses hash links to navigate to the next page/slide. If a user is at page one (#page1), there is a link which will lead the user to page 2 (#page2) and so on. At the top of the slider the numbers of the pages appear as a link, but only when the page is visited. So if there are six pages and the user navigates from the first to the second and then the third one, there are only three links at the top of the slider (to page one, two and three). The problem is that a user can navigate to page five (or any page actually) without first visiting the pages previous to page five by just using the hash URL and typing the whole link in their address bar. For example if I would type www.mydomain.com/slider/index.php#page5 the slider automatically navigates to the fifth slide/page of the slider and thereby skipping the first four. I want to allow users to navigate to #page5 only if they have visited the first four (So by clicking trough the slides). This means that if they would go to #page5 directly by typing the URL in the address bar, I would like them to be send to the first page (#page1). Does anyone have any idea on solving this?

• html - how do I make a page load in a new tab in IE8?

  My website works in Firefox - pages on the site load in the current tab, and links off site load a new tab. IE8 won't behave: target="_blank" opens a whole new window; the other options, _self _top _parent, all open the page in the current tab. I have Firefox set to "Open new windows in a new tab." The links to pages on my site all have target="_self" and Firefox keeps these in the current tab. On the external links I don't have a target set (I added _blank to see if it fixed IE8, and doing that didn't affect Firefox). I can't find an equivalent setting in IE8. Tools-Internet Options-General-Tabs/Settings has an enable tabs box, and a sub-option to automatically switch to newly opened tabs. Is there some html that will work? An IE8 setting I'm missing? Any help appreciated.

  I'm running into problems trying to pass absolute URIs as parameters with clean URLs enabled. I've got hook_menu() set up like this: function mymodule_menu() { return array( 'page/%' = array( 'title' = 'DBpedia Display Test', 'page callback' = 'mymodule_dbpedia_display', 'page arguments' = array(1), ), ); } and in the page callback: function mymodule_dbpedia_display($uri) { // Make an HTTP request for this URI // and then render some things return $output; } What I'm hoping to do is somehow pass full URIs (e.g. "http://dbpedia.org/resource/Coffee") to my page callback. I've tried a few things and nothing's worked so far... http://mysite.com/page/http%3A%2F%2Fdbpedia.org%2Fresource%2FCoffee Completely breaks Drupal's rewriting http://mysite.com/page/?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fdbpedia.org%2Fresource%2FCoffee Gives a 404 http://mysite.com/page/http://dbpedia.org/resource/Coffee Returns just "http:", which makes sense I could probably use $_GET to pull out the whole query string, but I guess I'm hoping for a more 'Drupal' solution. Any suggestions?

• how can a web page change my mouse speed?

  I usually have many tabs open in Firefox and I haven't been able to find one specific website that causes this because I don't seem to notice it right away. I'm going to click on something on my desktop and I am lifting up the mouse several times to get across the screen. It doesn't seem to matter what program I might be using because this happens on all desktops and in Firefox, too. So I go in my settings and I turn up the mouse speed all the way and it's still not really acceptable. It doesn't matter if I click on different tabs but when I close the browser, my mouse is way too sensitive, like I'd expect at the max setting. Then I go back to Control Center and return my mouse speed and acceleration to normal. When I restart my browser, the mouse remains normal. So is there something to this before I start wasting my time hunting through my history to discover which website or sites are having this effect? ...and if it is a specific site and I locate it, what can I change to stop it's effect on my mouse besides not visiting it? I am using Linux Mint 13 on a box with an AMD Athlon processor and 2gigs of ram. I never installed another browser because everything works for me.

  Having a problem with fixed div using iPhone's Safari. I know that in iOS 5 the functionality for position:fixed have been added. My div is positioned at the top of the screen and behave pretty good, anyway, there are some bugs during scrolling. But what actually makes me angry - it is the position of this div after coming back to the current page clicking on javascript:history.back(-1) link. The fixed div sticks in the middle of a screen. When I try to scrool, it jumps back on the right position. Is there any cure for the bug?

• Has anyone seen an HTTP 500 error when HTTPS traffic going through Pound Proxy forwards to an HTTP page?

  We have Varnish as our load balancer and reverse proxy cache for normal HTTP traffic. For HTTPS traffic, we use Pound proxy to unwrap the SSL and forward to Varnish, which then forwards to the back-end servers. This is used for our "checkout" process to encrypt credit card info in transition. However, on the last stage of checkout, users are always getting an HTTP 500 (Internal Server) error. It doesn't seem to be due to our back-end app server, by all tests I've tried. Does anyone know anything about how that transition works-- the transition back from HTTPS to HTTP and the interaction between Pound and Varnish-- and why it might cause 500 errors?

  I would like to implement pagination in my Servlet/EJB/JPA-Hibernate project, but I can't figure out how only one page from the query and know the number of pages I must display I use setFirstResult(int first) ; setMaxResults(int max) ; and that's working alright, but how can I know how many pages I will have in total? (Hibernate is my JPA provider, but I would prefer using only JPA if possible) UPDATE: COUNT() seems to be the better/easiest solution; but what can be the cost of SELECT COUNT(*) FROM ... in comparison with executeQuery("SELECT * FROM ...).getListResult().size() ?
