  • How to install mcrypt on RHEL5

    We have an RHEL5 server that I'm trying to install PHP-Mcrypt on and I'm stuck when I tried to run ./configure for mcrypt source files. I was using this guide: http://atlantatechpro.com/howtos/howtoslinux/howtosmhashmcrypt When I try to install (./configure) mcrypt, I get this checking for libmcrypt - version = 2.5.0... no Could not run libmcrypt test program, checking why... The test program compiled, but did not run. This usually means that the run-time linker is not finding LIBMCRYPT or finding the wrong version of LIBMCRYPT. If it is not finding LIBMCRYPT, you'll need to set your LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable, or edit /etc/ld.so.conf to point to the installed location Also, make sure you have run ldconfig if that is required on your system If you have an old version installed, it is best to remove it, although you may also be able to get things to work by modifying LD_LIBRARY_PATH configure: error: * libmcrypt was not found I also made a file at /etc/ld.so.conf.d/libmcrypt.conf with /usr/local/libmcrypt in it and ran /sbin/ldconfig I might have screwed things up by trying to reinstall libmcrypt without the configure arguments. Any suggestions on what to do now?

  • How to actually defragment a JFFS2 filesystem

    I have searched all over the Internet, including on a number of StackExchange forums, for a workable method for defragmenting a JFFS2 filesystem and cannot find an answer. The system in question has a 256MB NAND flash part. It is being accessed as a MTD device which is divided into three partitions. The third partition is where the root file system is being stored as a JFFS2 file system. The issue is that writes to the root file system have non-deterministic performance due to the usual issues of the JFFS2 garbage collector deciding to run at the worst possible times. When that happens, the product is hung for some unknown length of time while the garbage collector (and pdflush) run. Changing the file system isn't an option. The solution needs to be something that can run during off-hours that after having been run results in more predictable write performance. Right now I am working on a program that will attempt to force the garbage collector to run, then delete the file with the hope that all of the freed nodes are suddenly more readily available and make writes perform better. Thoughts?

    I can’t start MySQL on Ubuntu 12.04 after restored backup from innobackupex. Before I tried to restore the db from backup I moved the datadir and got the same problem. With help from google I fixed the problem and got MySQL started. Ready to set up my new slave, I restored the backup via innobackupex –-copy-path /db/mysql, and now I can’t start MySQL. I am sure of the following: In my.cnf the datadir = /db/mysql The new datadir is chown mysql:mysql. The /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld contains: #/var/lib/mysql/ r, #/var/lib/mysql/** rwk, /db/mysql r, /db/mysql** rwk, AND /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid w, /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock w, /run/mysqld/mysqld.pid w, /run/mysqld/mysqld.sock w, /var/log/syslog gives me the following info: http://pastebin.com/1TQGsaBH What am I missing? I have a customised machine I would like to sysprep and clone, without having to re-create in audit mode. And from where does one run sysprep? Is the command included in the windows distro, or do I need to run it from the AIK, or from a PE environment?

  • Too much memory consumed during TFS automated build

    We're running TFS 2010 Standard Edition, and we've set up an automated build to run whenever someone checks in code. We run through all of the automated tests (built with MSTest) as part of the build. We've configured the build to run the tests as a 64-bit process, but the QTAgent.exe that runs the tests grows in memory while the tests are running. It is currently reaching 8GB for the ~650 tests we have, and the process has slowed significantly when we went from 450 tests to 650 tests. When we run all of the tests in the local development environment, memory seems to be freed at least with each TestClass and never exceeds a certain level. The process of running all tests has not increased significantly in the local development environment. Is there a way to configure the build service to free up memory with each Test or each TestClass? With the way things are currently running, the build process gets very slow when we start to run out of memory on the machine. Edit: I found the MSTest invocation in the build log and ran it manually and saw the same behavior of runaway memory. I removed the /publish, /publishbuild, /teamproject, /platform, and /flavor parameters from the invocation of MSTest, in case the test runner was holding onto results until the end, but the behavior didn't change. I ran the same command line on a dev box, separate from the build server, and the memory freed up frequently. It seems there must be something wrong/different about the build server that is causing it to behave different, but I'm stumped where to look. I've looked at qtagent.exe.config, mstest.exe.config, versions of both executables. What else might affect this?

  • VB6 Scheduled tasks on Windows Server 2008 Standard

    Hello, this is my first time using this forum. Here is my situation: We are having issues with specific tasks written in VB6 it would seem. I am not a developer, but I am told these tasks exe are written in VB6. The task is initiated by task scheduler, the process begins to run (you can view the task in task manager, but no resources are used, 00 CPU, 760 K RAM), but nothing occurs. In a normal operating situation, the task will use 25% CPU and up to 20 MB RAM. When the task fails to run, you can still end and start it via Task Scheduler, but nothing happens. If you run just the process via the exe, it runs fine. The problem just seems to be when it is initiated via Task Scheduler. And this is a random issue, which always disappears after a server reboot. All of these tasks are VB 6 applications on Windows Server 2008 Standard, some servers are SP1, some are SP2, but both versions experience the issue. The task has been configured to run with highest priviledges, and to run whether logged on or not. Setting compatibility mode on the exe to 2003 does not make a difference. Situation 1: 51 - ERROR - Program did not appear to complete, check server!! (Desc: Input past end of file) in this situation, the task is running in task scheduler and you can view the process in task manager. . In the log file, all that is logged is: 12/17/2009 03:16 Starting T2 Populator version - 1.0.12 You can just end the task via task scheduler and start it via task scheduler and away it goes Situation 2: 36 - ERROR - Program last ran on 16-Dec-2009 in this situation the task is running in Task Scheduler and you can view the process in task manager, but no resources are used, 00 CPU, 760 K RAM. Nothing is logged in the log file. You end the task via task scheduler, but you must manually run the exe for it to complete. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced issues with VB6 tasks, or any tasks for that matter, on Server 2008?

  • Injection of banners in my webbrowsers possible malware

    Recently I have started to suspect that I have some kind of virus on my computer. There are 3 symptoms: Banners are being displayed on pages that doesn't use commercials, for instance when viewing screen-shots on Steam. It is only displayed after the rest of the page has been loaded and seems to be injected into it. The whole page is replaced with a commercial with the option to skip the commercial. The page is replaced with a search window claiming that the page could not be found. I have tried to scan my computer with Antivir and Adaware but only found a couple of tracking cookies. I have run HijackThis but since this isn't really my area I haven't been able to discern what shouldn't be there except the line about zonealarm since I have uninstalled it. Is there anyone out there who is able to see if there is anything suspicious in the log-file at the end or has suggestions regarding programs that might be better to find the virus than Antivir and Adaware?     I have deployed the Bitnami Ubuntu Joomla! 3.1.5-2 (64-bit) stack on Amazon Cloud: http://bitnami.com/stack/joomla/cloud/amazon By default, the stack is configured to run PHP using PHP-FPM. I have no problem getting the Joomla and phpmyadmin running as virtual hosts on Apache. But now, I would like to add another virtual host.   • mount_afp on linux, user rights

    I need to mount a remote filesystem on a linux box using the afp protocol. The linux box runs an old Debian 4. I downloaded the source code of mount_afp, compiled it and installed it with all the required packages. Then created /etc/fuse with the following command: mknod /dev/fuse c 10 229 (according to the instructions here) I can mount the remote filesystem as root by executing: mount_afp afp://USER:PASSWD@REMOTE_SERVER/FOLDER /mnt/MOUNTPOINT/ but the same command fails when run as normal user (of the local machine). After reading here and there, I created a group fuse, and added my normal user U to the group fuse: [prompt] groups U U fuse Then modified the group of /dev/fuse, that now has the following rights: 0 crwxrwx--- 1 root fuse 10, 229 Feb 8 15:33 /dev/fuse However, if the user U tries to mount the remote filesystem by using the same command as above, U gets the following error: Incorrect permissions on /dev/fuse, mode of device is 20770, uid/gid is 0/1007. But your effective uid/gid is 1004/1004 But the user U with uid 1004 has also gid 1007 (group fuse). I might think the problem is related to real/effective/etc. ID, but I do not know how to proceed and could not find any clear instructions. Could you please help me? There is also another problem. If I mount /mnt/MOUNTPOINT as root and run ls -l /mnt, I get: drwxrwxrwx 15 root root 466 Feb 8 16:34 MONTPOINT If I run ls -l /mnt as normal user U I get: ? ?????????? ? ? ? ? ? MOUNTPOINT in fact when I try to cd /mnt/MOUNTPOINT I get: $-> cd /mnt/MOUNTPOINT -sh: cd: /mnt/MOUNTPOINT: Not a directory Then I unmount /mnt/MOUNTPOINT as root and run again ls -l /mnt as normal user U I get: 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 6 Feb 8 15:32 MOUNTPOINT/ After reading Frank's answer, I killed every shell/process running with privileges of user U. Still U cannot mount the remote filesystem, but the error message has changed. Now it is: "Login error: Authentication failed". The problem is not related to remote login/password since the same command works perfectly when run as root of the local machine. Since I cannot get mount_afp to work with normal users, I decided to follow mgorven's suggestion. So I run the commands: mount_afp -o allow_other afp://USER:PASSWD@REMOTE_SERVER/FOLDER /mnt/MOUNTPOINT/ and mount_afp -o user=U afp://USER:PASSWD@REMOTE_SERVER/FOLDER /mnt/MOUNTPOINT/ The mount succeeds but user U cannot access the mount point. If U executes ls -l in /mnt U@LOCAL_HOST [/mnt] $-> ls -l ls: cannot access MOUNT_POINT: Permission denied total 0 ? ?????????? ? ? ? ? ? MOUNT_POINT Is it so hard to have this utility working?

  • Munin-cron fails "Nothing to do", possibly a munin.conf problem?

    I have been working on this for a few hours now, and haven't yet been able to get munin to output the html files/generated graphs of resource usage on my CentOS 5.3 server. Here are some things I run as the munin user, and the results: /usr/share/munin/munin-update --nofork --debug (above works fine, takes ~2.4 seconds to complete) munin-run cpu (And other options/plugins (besides 'cpu'), all work fine and give desired output) munin-cron Fails with: [FATAL] There is nothing to do here, since there are no nodes with any plugins. Please refer to http://munin-monitoring.org/wiki/FAQ_no_graphs at /usr/share/munin/munin-html line 38 I am wondering if, perhaps, the settings in my munin.conf file might be causing a problem.   • Trouble with Windows 7

    Hi, I'm trying to virtualize an application for Windows 7 but am running into trouble: Application will run fine in Windows 7 if installed in the base. When it is virtualized, it will run on XP, but not on Windows 7. I have tried this in three ways: Captured on XP with ThinApp 4.0 Captured on XP with ThinApp 4.5 Captured on Windows 7 with ThinApp 4.5 Even when captured on Windows 7, it will not run on Windows 7 but will run on XP. When captured with a rival product, Altiris SVS, the virtualized app runs fine on Windows 7. Any idea's what could cause this behaviour? Looking at the trace file, you see that they are different right from the start when comparing Windows 7 and XP tracefiles. What could cause it to go in completely different directions? (And why does the tracefile on Windows 7 say: Operating System Unknown? Does everybody have that on Windows 7 even with 4.5?) The error message is: "Object variable or with block variable not set".     Hi my friend has a samsung NP530U3C and he has changed the bios to CSM only now it stuck on a loop and will not boot up, the options "F2 setup" "F4 recovery" are there but they do nothing.I have a bootable USB with win 8 that "installs" right up to restart then....back to the loop or in stall.Please can some one help its been driving me mad i just need to get tothe bios and change it back to EFI/CSM.   • IIS 301 Redirect from "/index.html" to "/" for SEO Canonicalization

    I used the technique explained here for IIS (http://www.webconfs.com/how-to-redirect-a-webpage.php), but this appears to result in an infinite loop when applied to "/index.htm" and redirected to "/". Is there another way to do this in IIS so that it doesn't loop infinitely? This page is static HTML, so I can't implement an ASP or ASP.net solution. Any ideas?

  • smartctl not actually running self tests?

    I want to run the smartctl self tests to check the health of the drives in my RAID array (PERC 5/i). The array is on sda and comprises six drives. I can check the status using sudo smartctl /dev/sda -d megaraid,0 -a And I see that SMART is available and enabled on all the drives. I have tried to run self tests using sudo smartctl /dev/sda -d megaraid,0 -t short and sudo smartctl /dev/sda -d megaraid,0 -t long I have also tried it on all of the drives 0-5. No matter what I try, when I run: sudo smartctl /dev/sda -d megaraid,0 -l selftest I always get the same result, which seems to always report that I have never run a self test. /dev/sda [megaraid_disk_00] [SAT]: Device open changed type from 'megaraid' to 'sat' ===START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1 No self-tests have been logged. [To run self-tests, use: smartctl -t] From what I read, I should have no problem running the short and long self tests on the array while it is mounted. Does anyone else have experience running these tests on a PERC 5/i raid array who could lend some insight into what is causing the problem?   • Why do weekly tasks created via PowerShell using a different user fail with error 0x41306

    We have some scripts that create scheduled jobs using PowerShell as part of our application. When testing them recently, I noticed that some of them always failed immediately, and no output is ever produced (they don't even appear in the Get-Job list). After many days of tweaking, we've managed to isolate it to any jobs that are set to run weekly. Below is a script that creates two jobs that do exactly the same thing. When we run this on our domain, and provide credentials of a domain user, then force both jobs to run in the Task Scheduler GUI (right-click - Run), the daily one runs fine (0x0 result) and the weekly one fails (0x41306). Note: If I don't provide the -Credential param, both jobs work fine. The jobs only fail if the task is both weekly, and running as this domain user. I can't find information on why this is happening, nor think of any reason it would behave differently for weekly jobs. The "History£ tab in the Task Scheduler has almost no useful information, just "Task stopping due to user request" and "Task terminated", both of which have no useful info: Task Scheduler terminated "{eabba479-f8fc-4f0e-bf5e-053dfbfe9f62}" instance of the "\Microsoft\Windows\PowerShell\ScheduledJobs\Test1" task. Task Scheduler stopped instance "{eabba479-f8fc-4f0e-bf5e-053dfbfe9f62}" of task "\Microsoft\Windows\PowerShell\ScheduledJobs\Test1" as request by user "MyDomain\SomeUser" . What's up with this? Why do weekly tasks run differently, and how can I diganose this issue? This is PowerShell v3 on Windows Server 2008 R2. I've been unable to reproduce this locally, but I don't have a user set up in the same way as the one in our production domain (I'm working on this, but I wanted to post this ASAP in the hope someone knows what's happening!).
