• How should I setup my Visual Studio projects/solutions in a Mercurial repository?

  At my company we have a few different web apps that each share some common libraries. The Visual Studio setup looks like this. Website 1 Solution Website 1 Shared Library 1 Project Shared Library 2 Project Website 2 Solution Website 2 Shared Library 1 Project Shared Library 2 Project Windows Service Solution Windows Service Project Shared Library 1 Project Shared Library 2 Project Shared Library Solution Shared Library 1 Project Shared Library 2 Project All Projects Solution Website 1 Website 2 Windows Service Project Shared Library 1 Project Shared Library 2 Project We want to start using Mercurial for source control, but I'm still not sure the best way to do it. From what I've read you're supposed to use a separate repository for each project. No problem there, but where do the Visual Studio solution files (.sln) go? Should there be a separate repository with just an .sln file? Ideally the projects that use the shared libraries should all use the same version, and the solution "All Projects Solution" should build without errors, but sometimes we need to branch the shared libraries. What is the best way to do this, and how would the repositories be setup? How do I get a working copy of a certain branch/tag of the Website 1 solution when every project is in a separate repository. Do I have to pull each one separately, or write a script to do it all at once? Can tortoise hg do that for me? Any other tips to make this process easier?

• jQuery eval of ajax inline script not throwing errors

I'm currently putting together an app that has scripts that get loaded in with an ajax request. An example: var main = _main.get(); main.load( someurl ); Where someurl is a page that contains an inline script element: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function(){ var activities = new activities(); activities.init(); }); </script> jQuery will do a line by line eval of js that lives in inline script tags. The problem is, I get no errors or any information whatsoever in firebug when something goes awry. Does anyone have a good solution for this? Or a better practice for loading pages which contain javascript functionality? Edit: A little progress... so at the top of the page that is being loaded in via ajax, I have another script that was being included like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="javascript/pages/activities.js"></script> When I moved the inline $(document).ready() code in the page to the end of this included file, instead, syntax errors were now properly getting thrown. As an aside, I threw a console.log() into the inline script tag, and it was being logged just fine. I also tried removing the $(document).ready() altogether, and also switching it out for a $(window).load() event. No difference. May have something to do with the inline scripts dependency on the included activities.js, I guess. :: shakes head :: javascript can be a nightmare.

  Hi, I'm trying to create a very simple page that contains a container, a header, a left column and a footer: [containter] [header /] [content /] [leftBar /] [footer /] [/containter] (Sorry, I cannot paste the code properly, only appears the tag "body" and the rest disapears :S ... ) As you can see, very simple stuff. I want to use the 100% of the height, as I can do with the width, but I simply don`t get it work :S At his moment I'm using min-height, but how could I use the height:100% ? What I like is that the footer is always visible, and you scroll the content. • Jquery validations on form with no fields

  I have a table (in a form) populated with radio buttons (with a button for each value in a collection). If the collection is empty, nothing shows up in the table (which is fine). (I'm using Struts2) My trouble comes when validating that the user has selected one of these radio buttons when the submit button is clicked. I'm using JQUERY validations, and it works quite well UNLESS there are no radio buttons to select (collection is empty). $('#startProcessForm').validate({ rules: { selectedProcess: { required: true } }, messages: { selectedProcess: "Please select a process to start." } }); If the list IS empty, then there are no fields (radio button or otherwise) named "selectedProcess". So my question is this: How can I make "selectedProcess" exist AND fail the 'required:true' validation if there's nothing in the collection? I was thinking I could create an empty tag of the same name (selectedProcess) if the collection is empty? • Please explain JSONP

  I don't understand jsonp. I understand JSON. I don't understand JSONP. Wikipedia is the top search result for JSONP. It says JSONP or "JSON with padding" is a JSON extension wherein a prefix is specified as an input argument of the call itself. Huh? What call? That doesn't make any sense to me. JSON is a data format. There's no call. The 2nd search result is from some guy named Remy, who writes JSONP is script tag injection, passing the response from the server in to a user specified function. I can sort of understand that, but it's still not making any sense. What is JSONP, why was it created (what problem does it solve), and why would I use it? Addendum: I've updated Wikipedia with a clearer and more thorough description of JSONP, based on jvenema's answer. Thanks, all.

• How to handle HTML Strings in Cocoa Touch

  I'm using a RSS Reader and works fine when I tap the UITableViewCell to load the <link> either in a UIWebView or to open Safari on that link. But I really want to learn how to load the Topic content into the application instead showing the entire site or jump to Safari In the RSS feed per each <item> there is a <body> tag (and a <Description> that contains the same but encoded) that contains the topic content, like the image below shows: So, instead of catching the <link> I'm assigning the <body>. Problem is that it does not work correctly :-( for this example I only get the content until the first <br> nothing more. I'm using a NSString as I would use in C#, should I use any other object, is there a better object to use on such data? Should I use an UITextView to load this information (as it has scroll already) or I should use a UIWebView instead? Thank you.

  hi I'd like to integrate a theme tag to my elements so they appear in diffrent colours. But since the css selectors have the same css specificity the latest overrides the earlier defined rule. this is an example that shows my problem: .... <div class="red"> <div class="box">This should be red</div> <div class="yellow"> ... <div class="box">This should be yellow (nested in x levels under the div.yellow)</div> ... </div> .... and here my css .box { width: 100px; height: 100px; } .yellow { background-color: yellow; } .red { background-color: red; } the box should be listed somewhere, but as soon as it is a sub child of another color definition it should been overwritten. thanks for any help! //jim

• C# LINQ to XML missing space character.

  I write an XML file "by hand", (i.e. not with LINQ to XML), which sometimes includes an open/close tag containing a single space character. Upon viewing the resulting file, all appears correct, example below... <Item> <ItemNumber>3</ItemNumber> <English> </English> <Translation>Ignore this one. Do not remove.</Translation> </Item> ... the reasons for doing this are various and irrelevent, it is done. Later, I use a C# program with LINQ to XML to read the file back and extract the record... XElement X_EnglishE = null; // This is CRAZY foreach (XElement i in Records) { X_EnglishE = i.Element("English"); // There is only one damned record! } string X_English = X_EnglishE.ToString(); ... and test to make sure it is unchanged from the database record. I detect a change, when processing Items where the field had the single space character... +E+ Text[3] English source has been altered: Was: >>> <<< Now: >>><<< ... the and <<< parts I added to see what was happening, (hard to see space characters). I have fiddled around with this but can't see why this is so. It is not absolutely critical, as the field is not used, (yet), but I cannot trust C# or LINQ or whatever is doing this, if I do not understand why it is so. So what is doing that and why?

• Is it possible for onunload confirm to open a new url in the same window?

  Hi - this is my first post and I'm a JS novice, so please forgive my ignorance... Heres my question, its in two parts: 1.) At onunload I want an alert that asks the user if they would like to go to a related URL. The code I'm using works, but it open the URL in a new window and this can be blocked by a pop-up blocker even though the user has opted-in. Is there a way to have it open in the same window and negate the pop-up blocker? 2.) is there a way to take the onunload function out of the body tag and put it the script? • MIDP 2.0 version issues: $method is undefined for $type

  Hi, I've written a MIDlet that does several "advanced" things: fetching images from the web, resizing them, saving them on the phone, displaying them. This all works perfectly in the Nokia S60 3rd Edition FP1 emulator. This device has MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1 support (also JSR75, which I need in order to save files). It also works as it should on the Nokia E71 (physical device). I then tried to run the MIDlet on several other emulators. One of them, the DefaultCldcJtwiPhone2 from the Java ME SDK 3.0, also claims MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1 support. It doesn't have JSR75, which explains why "FileConnection can not be resolved to a type". This does not, however, explain why List.deleteAll(), String.equalsIgnoreCase(String) and a few others are undefined. The actual errors that I get: The method ceil(double) is undefined for the type Math The method deleteAll() is undefined for the type List The method equalsIgnoreCase(String) is undefined for the type String The method getWidth() is undefined for the type Displayable When I look at the MIDP 2.0 (i.e. JSR118) API (http://java.sun.com/javame/reference/apis/jsr118/), I can clearly see all of these methods being present, with the "since" tag being either MIDP 2.0 or CLDC 1.1. My question: why doesn't an emulator with MIDP 2.0 support have access to all MIDP 2.0 methods? Or alternatively, what am I doing wrong?

• autoconf libtool library linker path incorrect (need drive-letter) for MinGW ld.exe in Cygwin

  I use autoconf and when the target is mingw I was using the -mno-cygwin flag. This has been removed so I'm trying to using the mingw tool chain. The problem is the linker isn't finding my libraries /bin/sh ../../../libtool --tag=CXX --mode=link mingw32-g++ -g -Wall -pedantic -DNOMINMAX -D_REENTRANT -DWIN32 -I /usr/local/include/w32api -L/usr/local/lib/w32api -o testRandom.exe testRandom.o -L../../../lib/Random -lRandom libtool: link: mingw32-g++ -g -Wall -pedantic -DNOMINMAX -D_REENTRANT -DWIN32 -I /usr/local/include/w32api -o .libs/testRandom.exe testRandom.o -L/usr/local/lib/w32api -L/home/Tam/src/3DS_Games/lib/Random -lRandom D:\cygwin\opt\MinGW\bin\..\lib\gcc\mingw32\3.4.5\..\..\..\..\mingw32\bin\ld.exe: cannot find -lRandom To link this from the command line using the mingw linker the -L path needs the drive letter i.e mingw32-ld testRandom.o -LD:/home/Tam/src/3DS_Games/lib/Random -lRandom works. The -L path is generated from the makefile.am's which have LDADD = -L$(top_builddir)/lib/Random -lRandom However I can't find how to set top_builddir to a relative path or to start it with the drive letter (my autoconf skills are weak). As a tempoary "solution" I have removed the use of libtool. I could hack a $(DRIVE_LETTER) infront of every -L option, but I'd like to find something better.

• Blob in Java/Hibernate/sql-server 2005

  Hi, I'm trying to insert an HTML blob into our sql-server2005 database. i've been using the data-type [text] for the field the blob will eventually live in. i've also put a '@Lob' annotation on the field in the domain model. The problem comes in when the HTML blob I'm attempting to store is larger than 65536 characters. Its seems that is the caracter-limit for a text data type when using the @Lob annotation. Ideally I'd like to keep the whole blob in tact rather than chunk it up into multiple rows in the database. I appreciate any help or insight that might be provided.   Hi all, I'm building an horizontal menu in html+css. The current result is fine, except I want to have some items on the left, and others on the right. I couldn't find usefull result on Google with such common keywords so I'm asking on SO. I don't want a filler <li> tag, but instead apply a class to the last <li> on the left, or the first <li> on the right. Don't want to adjust the width as I've a :hover background color changing effet on the links. I suppose margin or padding should do the trick but I can't manage to find how. Any clue? • Adding a dynamic image to UITable View Cell

  Hi, I have a table in which I want a dynamic image to load in at the left-hand side. The table needs to use an IF statement to select the appropriate image from the "Resources" folder, and needs to be based upon [dog types]. The [dog types] is extracted from an RSS feed, and so the image in the table cell needs to match the each cell's [dog types] tag. Update: See code below for what I'm looking to do (only below it's for earthquakes, for me its pictures of dogs). I suspect I need to use - (UIImage *)imageForTypes:(NSString *)types { to do such a thing. Thanks. Updated code: This is for Apple's Earthquake sample but does exactly what I need to do. • 'echo' or drop out of 'programming' write HTML then start PHP code again

  For the most part, when I want to display some HTML code to be actually rendered I would use a 'close PHP' tag, write the HTML, then open the PHP again. eg <?php // some php code ?> <p>HTML that I want displayed</p> <?php // more php code ?> But I have seen lots of people who would just use echo instead, so they would have done the above something like <?php // some php code echo("<p>HTML that I want displayed</p>"); // more php code ?> Is their any performance hit for dropping out and back in like that? I would assume not as the PHP engine would have to process the entire file either way. What about when you use the echo function in the way that dose not look like a function, eg echo "<p>HTML that I want displayed</p>" I would hope that this is purely a matter of taste, but I would like to know if I was missing out on something. I personally find the first way preferable (dropping out of PHP then back in) as it helps draw a clear distinction between PHP and HTML and also lets you make use of code highlighting and hinting for your HTML, which is always handy.

• HttpModule to Write Out JavaScript Script References to the Response

  On my page in the Page_Load event I add a collection of strings to the Context object. I have an HttpModule that will fire EndRequest and retrieve the collection of strings. What I then do is write out a script reference tag (based on the collection of strings) to the response. The problem is that the page reads the script reference but doesn't retrieve the contents of the file (I imagine because this is occurring in the EndRequest event). I can't fire the BeginRequest event because I won't have access to the Context Items collection. I tried to also registering an HttpHandler which Processes the request of the script reference but I can't access the collection of strings in the Context.Items from there. Any suggestions?   Basically I have 2 polygons for my body. When I add a sprite for userData, the position of the texture isn't where I want it to be. What I want to do is adjust the position of the texture within the body. • Properly changing Ajax MultiHandle Slider parameters on postbacks

  Hi all, In VS2010 I have VB.NET codebehind aspx pages and I'm using Ajax multihandleslider extensions to filter search results on numerical values. Fistly, the multihandle sliders don't display in the designer... I have to remove the slider targets tag: In order to make it display in the designer... this isn't so much a big issue but an annoyance. I am displaying items in a given category. So I get the max and min prices for all items in that category and assign the sliderextension max/min values appropriately. This works fine until... I change the item category and go get a new max/min value for the slider control. I set the max/min values, then I set the target textbox values each to the corresponding max/min values. The slider handles don't repaint (or init?) properly Like say for example my initial min/max is 1/100 if I do a full postback and change the max value to 1000 then the slider bar (correctly) stays the same size but the handle appears WAYYYY to the right off the page and I have to scroll to it. When I click it, it shoots back onto the slider bar. I'm pulling my hair out... why do the slider handles only appear properly when I first set the min/max values?

• Ubiquity CmdUtils.setSelection won't replace HTML

  I'm attempting to write a Ubiquity command that allows you to replace a selected link or URL pointing to an image with that image itself. However, the CmdUtils.setSelection() function (documented here) seems to do nothing if any html tags are present in the selection, making it useless for replacing any links. When selecting plain text, it functions exactly as intended, replacing the text with an <img src="text"/> tag. Is there something I'm missing, or will this function simply not allow me to replace html? If the latter is the case, is there a function or method that will allow me to do this? Any other advice is welcome as well! • Reading Data from DDFS ValueError: No JSON object could be decoded

  I'm running dozens of map reduce jobs for a number of different purposes using disco. My data has grown enormous and I thought I would try using DDFS for a change rather than standard txt files. I've followed the DISCO map/reduce example Counting Words as a map/reduce job, without to much difficulty and with the help of others, Reading JSON specific data into DISCO I've gotten past one of my latest problems. I'm trying to read data in/out of ddfs to better chunk and distribute it but am having a bit of trouble.
