  • How can I join non-consecutive partitions on internal hard disk?

    I recently installed a new, larger hard disk in my PC at work (the office wouldn't spring for an upgrade for my 75GB disk, so I brought my own 2TB disk in from home). I managed to clone the original drive using CloneZilla, but now I have a 75GB partition on my new drive, followed by a 300MB partition, followed by a 1794.65GB of unallocated space. What I want is to add the unallocated space to the 75GB partition, thereby maximizing my C: drive. However, when I right-click on the C: partition, the option to "Extend Volume" is grayed out. How do I get all my fancy new extra space to be part of my C: drive? I also tried booting with GParted, but I get the same deal - cannot adjust the C: drive because there's no contiguous space.

    I just downloaded a Windows 7 iso from MSDNAA at school and they gave me a personal key. I'd like to add a file with my key onto the disc, but it has to remain bootable. Is there a really simple way to do this, or one that doesn't require some shareware? I'm using XP right now, or any solution under ubuntu is fine.

    I feel that it's going to be very difficult for a virus to infect an ISO file. What's your experience? Have you seen it happening ever? Is it not nearly unlikely? I ask because I've just found that my computer is infected and I wish to salvage as much stuff as possible. So I was wondering if I could keep my ISO files.

  • Bootable and remote controllable imaging software?

    I am looking for an imaging software, that one can boot from CD or usb stick (therefore without installing anything on the system!) and then control by some kind of remote desktop. So something like a combination of Acronis TrueImage's Bootable Media and Windows Remote Desktop. I don't even need to be able to store the backup on a network drive, as an external usb hdd is attached for these purposes. Background: A system that is normally controlled by SSH / command line and therefore has no keyboard/mouse connected that I could use to control Acronis TrueImage.

    About Gifsicle: Gifsicle is a command-line tool for creating, editing, and getting information about GIF images and animations. One of its features is (from its website): Optimize your animations! This stores only the changed portion of each frame, and can radically shrink your GIFs. You can also use transparency to make them even smaller. Gifsicle’s optimizer is pretty powerful, and usually reduces animations to within a couple bytes of the best commercial optimizers. I call Gifsicle through this .BAT file in the Right Click - 'Send to' Menu: @echo off :compressFile "C:\Programs\Compression Scripts\gifsicle\bin\gifsicle.exe" --batch -V -O3 %1% echo. echo.     I use VMWare Fusion on my Mac to run a virtual Windows 7 machine, and the Microsoft IE compatibility Windows XP virtual machines. In VMWare Tools on the Windows guest OSes, there’s a “Shrink” option that lets you reduce the size of the sparse disk image used by the guest OS, to save hard drive space on your host OX. I’ve recently created another virtual machine, this time running Snow Leopard Server. I was wondering if I could shrink the spare disk image used by this machine too, but I can’t find a VMWare Tools app on the Mac guest OS, even though VMWare Tools have been installed (as VMWare’s Shared Folders feature is working). Is there any way to shrink the sparse disk image used by Mac OS X guest OSes in VMWare Fusion?

  • CentOS ISO DVD self-disc-check failing

    I downloaded a CentOS 5.4 DVD ISO from one of the official mirrors. The MD5 sum is correct for the iso file that was downloaded. I burned the ISO onto a DVD+R using ImgBurn. I got no errors during the burning process and it says it finished burning successfully. When booting a server using this DVD to install CentOS on it, the first thing I did was run the self-disc-check (where it checks the files to make sure its genuine, etc). It failed. Didn't really say why. Am I doing something wrong here? Or is there someplace I can see why its failing? If the MD5 is correct and I don't get any burning errors, how can it be failing its own self-check mechanism?

    For years I have used .dmg or .sparsebundle (Encrypted and Password Protected) to safely keep home directory backups on my Mac. Now, I am looking for a similar Full Permissions/Read/Write that maintains an encrypted, and password protected file that it Tri-Platform. I'd like to have the future ability to use it on Mac OS X, Windows 7/8, and Ubuntu (current releases+). I appreciate your recommendations. Thank you. (I like mounting a DMG and having a file directory structure that can be easily maintained and organized. When done, un-mounting the file.) (I've seen Windows tools to open encrypted DMG files? and I will explore these options, but with the desire to also keep the file accessible on on three OSes, someone might have additional suggestions.)

  • Is it possible to fix photos that are taken blurred

    I took pictures with a digital camera and I didn't notice that the blur setting is on so the pictures that were taken were all blurred. The camera has no edit feature. Is it still possible to fix it using photoshop? I followed this tutorial on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpWDihBHRqM which uses photoshop but no luck. As much as possible I want to see the output that is close to a picture that is taken without the blur setting on.

I am trying to figure out a way to automatically edit them so that I dont have to write ineffective AHK scripts to do it. Is there a feature inside of Photoshop (cs3) to do this?     I had a LVM2 volume with two disks. The larger disk became corrupt, so I cant pvmove. What is the best way to remove it from the group to save the most data from the other disk?   • Is there a way to sharpen low quality images

    I have a lot of images for a project that are not really sharp and crisp. I think these were old images that were resized a lot etc. This is because I am working on a website for a client and she does not have the high quality pictures anymore, the pictures I have to work with are somewhat pixelated. Ill show you an example of one I think could be better: Now as you can see the parts around the text 'Azule' is not so sharp. Is there a way to sharpen this. Now I have another one, and I think there is no hope for this one. Is there any hope for the picture above to make it sharp again, I highly doubt it.

    I just bought a nettop. It came with WinXP Home. I first installed Win 7 on it. I wasn't that happy with the performance so I decided to go back to XP. I am using an external dvd drive and a Win XP Pro disc. I boot from the dvd drive and during the install get this error: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.
