  I have read from here how to install oracle 10g xe in ubuntu 10.x but not in 11.04 (64 bit). But with 11.04 it does not work anymore because of dependency exceptions. So, how to install oracle 10g xe in ubuntu 11.04? I even found some variant how to fix it from here but in my case it does not work - the same exception take place: oracle-xe-universal:i386 depends on libc6 (= 2.3.2); however: Package libc6:i386 is not installed.

• xdebug 2.2.1 installed but not working with cgi

  I've installed (via pecl) xdebug. It is installed (as phpinfo() output indicates), but it doesn't seems to work with CGI (with CLI it works). I've restarted apache, without result. Any ideas? • Trouble with Graphics Settings

  I recently tried to install Ubuntu 14 Lts alongside Windows XP pro on my 2005 dell dimension E510. Everything appeared to be working correctly until I tried to log in, at which point it froze with a blank color background, which would flicker to black every other time I hit a key or clicked the mouse. I then tried booting in graphical safe mode at which point it told me that it could not configure the graphics settings. Does any body know what's going on. Thank you for any suggestions.

  My workflow includes some steps that make me wait for 0.5 to 2 minutes to complete: long remote git operations, creating / rebooting an instance in the cloud, etc. It's safe to assume that these operations cannot be made any faster. The resulting delays are the biggest flow-breakers for me. These are too long to just sit and stare at the progress indicators, but too short to take a walk and grab a coffee. Temptation to check some websites is big, and it's often a road to 20-30 minutes of procrastination + the time to get into the flow again. What are your coping strategies?

• Is OpenGL 1.x deprecated?

  I'm familiar with OpenGL 1.x. I typically use SDL with OpenGL 1.4 on Linux, and I've never run into problems, even on my modern system. I've read on the OpenGL site about deprecation and compatibility contexts, but I'm still unclear as to whether it's safe to continue to use old versions of OpenGL, as opposed to using old features in newer versions. When functionality is marked deprecated ... future versions of OpenGL may remove it. Does deprecation simply imply that those functions can't be used alongside newer features? More specifically, are there any systems today (other than embedded) where OpenGL 1.x isn't available? The old-skool stuff like, glBegin, glEnd, glDrawPixels, etc. Note: I'm not a professional games developer, so you'll have to excuse my ignorance. I'm working on a mostly 2D game that I would like to keep multi-platform, supporting at least Linux, Mac, and Windows.

  I know that it's best practice to stay safe, and that we should always prevent others from directly accessing a class' properties. I hear this all the time from university professors, and I also see this all the time in a lot of source code released on the App Hub. In fact, professors say that they will actually take marks off for every variable that gets declared public. Now, this leaves me always declaring variables as private. No matter what. Even if each of these variables were to have both a getter and a setter. But here's the problem: it's tedious work. I tend to quickly loose interest in a project every time I need to have a variable in a class that could have simply been declared public instead of private with a getter and a setter. So my question is, do I really need to declare all my variables private? Or could I declare some variables public whenever they require both a getter and a setter?

• After removing Ubuntu Builder there is still folder in home directory. Why? How to remove it?

  I removed Ubuntu Builder using Synaptic with option Mark for Complete Removal. I thought that gonna delete folder (made by Ubuntu Builder) in home dir, but it's not. AFAIK Mark for Complete Removal is same as Purging, and that should delete all files made by program. Am I wrong? Is it safe to delete it with sudo rm -r /home/ubuntu-builder because it is in home dir? And last question. Why is it made folder in /home instead in ~/ dir?

  I recently purchased an ASUS N56VZ-ES71 laptop which came with Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. I wish to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 on it. I shrank the hard drive partitions to leave about 150 GB unallocated for Ubuntu 12.04. When I boot the Live CD of Ubuntu and attempt to install, the installer does not recognize any other operating systems. Through reading a few questions, I have found that this is due to a GPT partitioning table that Windows uses. I ran boot-repair as per other threads' suggestions. This was my output: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1176988/ I suppose my question is: how do I proceed in order to get the installer to recognize Windows, so that I don't have to erase the current partition table and can get a safe install? • Settings messed up after crash

  After an abrupt shutdown many settings were messed up: #1 Firefox was a mess. Bookmarks were gone, and I couldn't even add new ones. I had to reset firefox from safe mode and install all my addons and configure everything. This was a pain but is now solved. #2 The background in the login screen shows the one I chose with Ubuntu Tweak for a second, and then it puts back the default one. I tried changing it again with Ubuntu Tweak but it's still happening. #3 All my shortcuts in the sidebar were replaced by the default ones. I re-added them manually, also a pain. So how can I solve 2? And in case this happens again, is there a way to fix everything easy and fast?

• Is this a reliable method of parsing glGetShaderInfoLog()?

  I want to get a list of errors and their line numbers so I can display the error information differently from how it's formatted in the error string and also to show the line in the output. It looks easy enough to just parse the result of glGetShaderInfoLog(), look for ERROR:, then read the next number up to :, and then the next, and finally the error description up to the next newline. However, the OpenGL docs say: Application developers should not expect different OpenGL implementations to produce identical information logs. This makes me worry that my code may behave incorrectly on different systems. I don't need them to be identical, I just need them to follow the same format. So is there a better way to get a list of errors with the line number separate, is it safe to assume that they'll always follow the "ERROR: 0:123:" format, or is there simply no reliable way to do this?

• Gnome 3.10 doesn't show login, Ubuntu 13.10

  I use gnome as default desktop. And I recently upgrade Ubuntu to 13.10 then upgraded gnome to 3.10. Upon restarting, it brings me to the gnome log in screen (GDM) and all I see is the top banner part so like your date, music volume, option to restart, suspend or shutdown. Hitting control+alt+delete tells me gnome display manager will log out - it does but still nothing. I am on the log in screen, but there is no user to select, like there normally is or was. I can boot into safe mode and drop down to shell but I am not sure what commands I would enter to get the login screen back. I am using the gnome PPA's and the "unstable" PPA, so I expected issues, but not this - ideas?

  I'm in a HP 430 PC-Notebook using Oneiric. And sometimes my touchpad just stop working :(... I haven't installed anything, just safe playing with terminal following linuxcommand.org BTW my touchpad has a "hole" that in Windows, it works like this: two touch, block touchpad, two touch, unblock. And as far as I now, Ubuntu hasn't recognize this function so I think that the "hole" is not the problem... Also, I'm pretty sure that I haven't touch a little that... • Stuck in logon loop

  Here's the deal. I set up a computer with Ubuntu 10.04 for my grandmother. Everything worked fine. I connected it to the internet at her house today. After rebooting the computer I found that the computer would kick you back to the logon screen if you attempted to logon to her account. It worked fine logging on to my admin account, and also in Gnome's safe mode. I thought it had resolved itself, but turns out it hadn't, and now I don't have physical access to the computer, plus the remote connection I'd hoped to use only works intermittently. I need some suggestions for troubleshooting for when I'm at her house at some point next week. Ask for any more details, but I'm afraid I won't be able to provide many more until I've checked it out in person, since she is basically unable to use a computer beyond web browsing. • Watchguard Firewall WebBlocker Regular Expression for Multiple Domains?

  I'm pretty sure this is really a regex question, so you can skip to REGEX QUESTION if you want to skip the background. Our primary firewall is a Watchguard X750e running Fireware XTM v11.2. We're using webblocker to block most of the categories, and I'm allowing needed sites as they arise. Some sites are simple to add as exceptions, like Pandora radio. That one is just a pattern matched exception with "padnora.com/" as the pattern. All traffic from anywhere on pandora.com is allowed. I'm running into trouble on more sophisticated domains that reference content off of their base domains. We'll take GrooveShark as a sample. If you go to http://grooveshark.com/ and view page source, you'll see hrefs referring to gs-cdn.net as well as grooveshar.com. So adding a WebBlocker exception to grooveshark.com/ is not effective, and I have to add a second rule allowing gs-cdn.net/ as well. I see that the WebBlocker allows regex rules, so what I'd like to do in situations like this is create a single regex rule that allows traffic to all the needed domains. REGEX QUESTION: I'd like to try a regex that matches grooveshark.com/ and gs-cdn.net/. If anybody can help me write that regex, I'd appreciate it. Here is what is in the WatchGuard documentation from that section: Regular expression Regular expression matches use a Perl-compatible regular expression to make a match. For example, .[onc][eor][gtm] matches .org, .net, .com, or any other three-letter combination of one letter from each bracket, in order. Be sure to drop the leading “http://” Supports wild cards used in shell script. For example, the expression “(www)?.watchguard.[com|org|net]” will match URL paths including www.watchguard.com, www.watchguard.net, and www.watchguard.org. Thanks all!

• Occasional disk I/O errors in SQLite

  I have a very simple website running PHP and SQLite 3.7.9 (with PDO). After establishing the SQLite connection I immediately execute the following queries: PRAGMA busy_timeout=0; PRAGMA cache_size=8192; PRAGMA foreign_keys=ON; PRAGMA journal_size_limit=67110000; PRAGMA legacy_file_format=OFF; PRAGMA page_size=4096; PRAGMA recursive_triggers=ON; PRAGMA secure_delete=ON; PRAGMA synchronous=NORMAL; PRAGMA temp_store=MEMORY; PRAGMA journal_mode=WAL; PRAGMA wal_autocheckpoint=4096; This website only has one writer and a few occasional readers, so I don't expect any concurrency problems (and I'm even using WAL). Every couple of days, I've seen this error being reported by PHP: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'PDOException' with message 'SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 10 disk I/O error' in ... Stack trace: #0 ...: PDO-exec('PRAGMA cache_si...') There are several things that make this error very weird to me: it's not a transient problem - no matter how many times I refresh the page, it won't go away the database file is not corrupted - the sqlite3 executable can open the database without problems If the following pragmas are commented out, PHP stops throwing the disk I/O exception: PRAGMA cache_size=8192; PRAGMA synchronous=NORMAL; PRAGMA journal_mode=WAL; Then, after successfully reconnecting to the database, I'm able to reintroduce these pragmas and the code with run smoothly for days - until eventually, the same error will occur without any apparent reason. I wasn't able to reproduce this error so far, so I'm clueless about the origin of it. I'm really curious what may be causing this problem... Any ideas? Environment: Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS PHP 5.4.15 SQLite 3.7.9 Database size: ? 10MiB Transaction (write) size: ? 1KiB EDIT: Might these symptoms have something to do with busy_timeout?

• Exchange 2010 add mailbox server to DAG error

  Hello, i'm having some problems when adding a second mailbox server to my DAG in Exchange 2010. The test setup goes like this: 1x windows server 2008 (DC/DNS) 2x windows server 2008 (Exchange 2010) I have made sure all services are up and running and that the "Exchange Trusted Subsystem" account is set as a local admin. When i create a DAG i can add the first mailbox server (A) without any problems, but when i go to add the second (B) it gives me an error saying "Unable to contact the Cluster service on 1 other members (member) of the Database availability group. It does the same if i add (B) first and then try to add (A). • Troubleshooting transient Windows I/O "The parameter is incorrect." errors

  We have a set of .Net 2.0 applications running on Windows 2003 servers which have started experiencing transient "The parameter is incorrect." Windows I/O errors. These errors always happen accessing a file share on a SAN. The fact that this error has happened with multiple applications and multiple servers leads me to believe that this is an infrastructure issue of some sort. The applications all run under the same domain account. When the errors occur they generally will resolve themselves within a few minutes. I can log in to the application server once the error starts occurring and access the file share myself with no problems. I have looked at the Windows event logs and haven't found anything useful. Due to the generic nature of "The parameter is incorrect.", I am looking for additional troubleshooting suggestions for this error. A sample stack trace is below. Note that while this example was during a directory creation operation, when the problem is occurring, this exception is thrown for any file system operations on the share.
