• State of Texas delivers Private Cloud Services powered by Oracle Technology

Todd Kimbriel, Director of eGovernment Division at State of Texas attended Oracle Open World and talked with Oracle's John Foley about their private cloud services offering. Later, Todd participated in the keynote panel of Database as a Service Online Forum> along with Carl Olofson,IDC analyst , Juan Loaiza,SVP Oracle and couple of other Oracle customers. • FFMPEG dropping frames while encoding JPEG sequence at color change

  I'm trying to put together a slide show using imagemagick and FFMPEG. I use imagemagick to expand a single photo into 30fps video (imagemagick also handles things like putting some text captions on the frames along the way). When I go to let ffmpeg digest it into a video it clips along nicely on the color parts of the video, but when it gets to a black and white section it reports "frame= 2030 fps=102 q=32766.0 Lsize= 5203kB time=00:01:07.60 bitrate= 630.5kbits/s dup=0 drop=703" and drops every frame of video until it hits something with color. As you can imagine this results in entire photos being removed from the slideshow.   I just changed jobs and will soon be in charge of a custom-built ASP.NET CMS and website for a fairly large corporation with global offices. I have IT and developer FTE resources available to me but I am trying to build a list of branding, project, and functionality points to review. What guides or lists can/should I use to evaluate this website before I begin adding features, creating new projects, or even redesigning and redeveloping the site? (I have been a webmaster/designer/developer for small, WordPress/Drupal sites for 10 years. I have been an unofficial webmaster (director/content manager) for a large site for 3 years (no direct development control over Sharepoint administration, IIS, or hosting ... but everything else, I did. Analytics, email, advertising, social, SEO, etc.).) Thank you!

• How to update the USB Ubuntu (ISO) with new software

  I have Peppermint (based on Ubuntu) running of USB. Its bascially an ISO image that loads using Grub4Dos. Problem is that I each time I load Ubuntu - and want to use i.e. teamviewer or Firefox...I have to install it on the running live system. Since its running from a ISO image...a reboot means the software is gone. I can edit/open the ISO image using WinImage (on XP) - would you know how I can add extra software into this ISO image so next time Ubuntu loads...the new software is on there? Is there some special repositary director where I should copy the software files into and recreate the ISO image? The directory structure of this iso image is along the lines of: .disk [BOOT] Casper dists install isolinux pool preseed Appreciate your help with this. The software I am really interested in installing is the plugin for LogMeIn (for which I may need Firefox...thus I need Firefox installation) and Teamviewer. Thanks Nakata

• iOS App Store Under 18 - Post via private limited company? [closed]

  I'm 17 years old and wish to post an application on the iOS App Store. My situation is a little different to other users doing the same thing, though. I'm finding this very frustrating. It's very annoying that Apple don't let younger talent post themselves. Is it true that if I do post under my Father's name I can choose a different name to be listed on the app store? I want to keep this professional, I don't want my father's name to appear underneath the application on the store. :P I have registered myself as the company director of a private limited company. Even though I'm the only one in the company, is this a way to bypass the 18+ restriction or do I need a minimum of 2 employees? Why the hell has this been closed? Thanks

• How do I get a Realtek Wireless USB Airlink101 AWLL5088 working?

  I am running Ubuntu 11.10, 32bit. I ordered them a Realtek Airlink101 AWLL5088 based upon the relative ease for linux installation. I am having trouble installing the drivers. I copied the drivers to /usr/src/ and ran sudo ./install.sh from that director listed above. I have tried ndiswrapper, and allowing the default drivers, but with no luck. It seems to continue to try and use the default free drivers, even though I have blacklisted them using the guide described here. There was no error, I was asked which card I was using. I looked at the packaging and at the support page, and guessed number 2, allowed to finish, and rebooted. It continued detect the wireless network after the reboot, but would never complete the connection. I would appreciate any feedback. I am kind of stuck trying to figure this out.

• Can not open port 3306 on Ubuntu using iptables

  I am trying to open port 3306 (for remote mysql connections) on my ubuntu 12.04 server machine but for the life of me can't get the damned thing to work! I suspect since the new rule is being appended at the end it will have no effect as there appears to be a "reject all" sort of rule before it. If this is the case, how to make sure the new rule is added in the right order? Otherwise, what am I missing? Please help.

I expected that since he is my first boss who actually has a programming background that there would be some description of this. However, it was left at that. As I reflected on this over the last few days, I am coming up empty on what a CoE actually means beyond just "being effective" at delivering the product.
