• Which is the best .NET image capture API for me to use?

  I have been tasked with integrating image acquisition into a .NET application and I have been looking for an API to use for performing this function. I have come across several "standard" APIs, some have been in existence for a long time, some not so long. I have looked at references to ISIS, TWAIN, WIA, and SANE (said to be mostly *nix). They all appear to be Win32 libraries except for SANE, and I was wondering what the current recommendations are for talking to image acquisition devices (scanners)? Feel free to recommend something else if you feel it is better. I'm looking for open source options. Edit: I put open source, when what I actually meant was free. using WIA or TWAIN is fine since they are free even though they are proprietary interfaces.

• Store JsTree order back into database

  Hi I am using JsTree and got some of it working with my database. Such as deleting a node, renaming a node, etc. I am having problems with saving the ROOT folders order back to the database. When I move the root folders, it doesnt save order. When I move the sub folders around, it saves order fine. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? • What's the difference between these Intel things?

  My head still spins with the various Intel "things" that may (or may not) need installing/configuring/yaddayadda'ing: Intel Rapid Storage Technology (is this driver? a software manager/package?), Intel Chipset (i.e., Intel INF Update Utility, Intel RST OROM, Intel RST driver, Intel Matrix Manager, etc. I think I have a basic understanding that the OROM is the low-level BIOS "driver", which communicates with the higher-level RST driver (in Windows). But what's the Chipset Installation software? What's the INF installation/update software? I'm confused as to what the other pieces are (or why there are so many to begin with). And as for a practical matter -- I'm wanting to upgrade my BIOS with a recent Intel OROM included, and then also update the Intel RST drivers in Windows -- BUT, as for the Windows side of things, I don't know what I should uninstall -- the Intel Chipset installer thing (through official uninstaller), Intel RST Manager, finding the individual Intel devices in Device Manager and right-clicking-uninstall/deleting, etc.

• Best placement for javascript in Asp.net MVC app that heavily uses partial views

  What is the best place for javascript that is specific to a partial view? For example, if I have a partial view (loaded via ajax call) with some divs and I want to turn those divs into an accordian, would it be better put the $("#section").accordion() in script tags inside of the partial view, or in a .js file in the function that retrieves that partial view and inserts it into the DOM? Obviously, common methods I will be keeping in a .js file, however I am more talking about javascript very specific to the partial view itself. Most things I find on the net seem to say to put all javascript into a separate .js but nothing addresses the idea of partial views.

• Dealing with Unity's Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars under Free Pascal/Lazarus

  I've had some problems under the IDE that were fixed with unsettings and disabling Global menu and the Overlay Scrollbars. I've reported the problem in Lazarus' Mantis: #0021465, #0021467. There is also this bug report talking a bit more about it: #0019266 Their solution was to use unsettings to turn off Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars. I've had a quick search about the problem and there's an open bug report at Launchpad: overlay scrolling is broken in lazarus. So, is the problem related to "lib overlay scrollbar"? If it is, is there a solution via code, to avoid turning off both the Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars? If NOT, is there anyone taking notice and fixing the issue? Many thanks, Gus

The scenario is as follows: I want to be able to forward all outbound web traffic from a browswer to Tor so that it is properly anonymized. Normally, one could just set the http proxy in the browser and be done with it but this is with a browser without the ability to do so specifically, a mobile browser. So ideally, what could be done then is to intercept all web/dns traffic requests from the browser and send it to Tor. Assume for this, that Tor will be running on the device too.

  For a little project about XML I try to use HTML5 as it has SVG and WAI-ARIA Support. I also want to use a XSL stylesheet for my document. But I can't get a valid HTML5 document with a nested SVG. Can anyone tell me how to avoid the meta tag to be inserted or how to set a propper Content-Type that will make the browser rendern the SVG. Or even any other hint to get this working. I would really like to keep HTML5 to be able to keep the WAI-ARIA Landmark Roles an the HTML5 tags like NAV and FOOTER.

• Looking for the most painless non-RDBMS storage method in C#

  I'm writing a simple program that will run entirely client-side. (Desktop programming? do people still do that?) and I need a simple way to store trivial amounts of data in a structured form, but really don't see any need to use a database system. What's more, some of the data needs to be serialized and passed around to different users, like some kind of "file" or perhaps a "document". (has anyone ever done that before?) So, I've looked at using .Net DataSets, LINQ, direct XML manipulation, and they all seem like they would get the job done, but I would like to know before I dive into any of them if there's one method that is generally regarded as easier to code than others. As I said, the amount of data to be stored is trivial, even if one hundred people all used the same machine we're not talking about more than 10 MB, so performance is not as large a concern as is codeability/maintainability.   I'm not trying to start a "which language is better" argument here, so please don't go there. I typically use PHP for most of my web development (mostly because hosting is cheap), but for various reasons I'm looking to use ASP.NET for a couple new projects. But one of the major reasons I've stayed away from ASP.NET up until now is the cost. I've seen some budget hosting options, but they always seem a little sketchy to me. From what I've generally found, that's just the way the hosting scene looks for ASP.NET unless you want to go dedicated. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a solid ASP.NET host with a good feature set and reliability for my money? Also, are there any options out there along the lines of Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud? And yes, I know... Mono. I'm talking about Windows based "grid" hosting options?

  We have a .NET application talking to Oracle 10g. Our DBA recently pulled a list of queries where executions is equal to parse_calls. We assumed that this would help us find all of the unparameterized queries in our code. Unexpectedly, the following query showed up near the top of this list, with 1,436,169 executions and 1,436,151 parses: SELECT bar.foocolumn FROM bartable bar, baztable baz WHERE bar.some_id = :someId AND baz.another_id = :anotherId AND baz.some_date BETWEEN bar.start_date AND (nvl(bar.end_date, baz.some_date + (1/84600)) - (1/84600)) Why is executions equal to parse_calls for this query?

  I've been watching Google Tech Talks' Speed Up Your Javascript and in talking about loops, the speaker mentions to stay away from function-based iterations such as jQuery.each() (among others, at about 24:05 in the video). He briefly explains why to avoid them which makes sense, but admittedly I don't quite understand what an alternative would be. Say, in the case I want to iterate through a column of table cells and use the value to manipulate the adjacent cell's value (just a quick example). Can anyone explain and give an example of an alternative to function-based iteration?

• How to remove an "extra" (unwanted) network from a windows 2008 failover cluster?

  Hi, We had a severe crash on one node of our 2-node Windows 2008 / Exchange 2007 CCR Cluster the other day, and i tried to rebuild the node from scratch. I'm using this as a rough outline: http://edmckinzie.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!687C72A5909E4230!508.entry?sa=641979772 The problem: Our cluster was originally setup with only one NIC per host, as this is supposedly supported in Win2008 (no dedicated heartbeat NIC). When I add my freshly installed node to the cluster, it shows up with two cluster networks, "Cluster Network 1" & 2. The existing node's NIC has been placed in one cluster network and my fresh installed has ended up in the other. I can't find anywhere in the GUI to choose which cluster network each physical NIC should be part of, but i KNOW I have done this before. • Using LINQ to search a byte array for all subarrays that start/stop with certain byte

  I'm dealing with a COM port application and we have a defined variable-length packet structure that I'm talking to a micro-controller with. The packet has delimiters for the start and stop bytes. The trouble is that sometimes the read buffer can contain extraneous characters. It seems like I'll always get the whole packet, just some extra chatter before/after the actual data. So I have a buffer that I append data to whenever new data is received from the COM port. What is the best way to search this buffer for any possible occurrences of my packet? For example: Say my packet delimiter is 0xFF and I have an array as such { 0x00, 0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF, 0x04 } How can I create a function/LINQ-statment that returns all subarrays that start and end with the delimiter (almost like a sliding-correlator with wildcards)? The sample would return the following 3 arrays: {0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF}, {0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF}, and {0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF}

  Netbeans seems to say in several places that it supports a library to just host the "Netbeans editor" widget in some other program. It has some weird documentation that seems to say a lot, but doesn't really say much about how to use it: http://bits.netbeans.org/dev/javadoc/org-netbeans-modules-editor-lib2/architecture-summary.html I can't seem to find any download for the "Netbeans editor library" (1 or 2), and the documentation they provide says to download the entire mercurial repository, which doesn't really help me, since it doesn't tell me what is part of this "library" and what is not. If someone could point me to a download for this library, or some minimal documentation about how to use it, that would be great. I've already seen the blog post here, but it doesn't really help with getting the library, and it seems to be talking about classes which I can't find in the Netbeans sources I downloaded (Maybe a different version?)

  Okay, this is REALLY starting to bug me... This page works fine in both Chrome and Firefox. www.bloggan.tk But if it's opened in internet-explorer it always expands beyond the page and introduces the scrollbar no matter what the resolution of the browser is. I have NO idea what change in the html it was that cause this... Here's the blogger-template-html-source I'd REALLY appreciate if someone could help me with this. Thanks in advance! Edit: I've "solved" it for IE using javascript, but that's only temporary (i hope). The version without javascript can be seen here, so that you still will be able to know what I'm talking about. In this theme they have a share button that I like the functionality of. I want to replicate the button in the front section of the site within the gallery pages. If you click on the images in the gallery you will see a large lightbox come up. I want to add the Share button just above the navigation buttons. This is my require from a customer. I was searched magiczoomplus.js, but I can't add it.
