  • Which Cortex-M3 interrupts can I use for general purpose work?

    I'd have some code that needs to be run as the result of a particular interrupt going off. I don't want to execute it in the context of the interrupt itself but I also don't want it to execute in thread mode. I would like to run it at a priority that's lower than the high level interrupt that precipitated its running but also a priority that higher than thread level (and some other interrupts as well). I think I need to use one of the other interrupt handlers. Which ones are the best to use and what the best way to invoke them? At the moment I'm planning on just using the interrupt handlers for some peripherals that I'm not using and invoking them by setting bits directly through the NVIC but I was hoping there's a better, more official way.   • How to make a custom NSFormatter work correctly on Snow Leopard?

    I have a custom NSFormatter attached to several NSTextFields who's only purpose is to uppercase the characters as they are typed into field. The entire code for my formatter is included below. The stringForObjectValue() and getObjectValue() implementations are no-ops and taken pretty much directly out of Apple's documentation. I'm using the isPartialStringValid() method to return an uppercase version of the string. This code works correctly in 10.4 and 10.5. When I run it on 10.6, I get "strange" behaviour where text fields aren't always render the characters that are typed and sometimes are just displaying garbage. I've tried enabling NSZombie detection and running under Instruments but nothing was reported.   • how to work with strings and integers as bit strings in python?

    Hello! I'm developing a Genetic Algorithm in python were chromosomes are composed of strings and integers. To apply the genetic operations, I want to convert these groups of integers and strings into bit strings. For example, if one chromosome is: ["Hello", 4, "anotherString"] I'd like it to become something like: 0100100100101001010011110011 (this is not actual translation). So... How can I do this? Chromosomes will contain the same amount of strings and integers, but this numbers can vary from one algorithm run to another. To be clear, what I want to obtain is the bit representation of each element in the chromosome concatenated. If you think this would not be the best way to apply genetic operators (such as mutation and simple crossover) just tell me! I'm open to new ideas. Thanks a lot! Manuel

  • jQuery: detecting reaching bottom of scroll doesn't work, only detects the top! :(

    Hi folks! So basically my problem is a seemingly simple one. You can see it in action at http://furnace.howcode.com (please note that data is returned via Ajax, so if nothing happens give it a few moments!). What's MEANT to happen, is in the second column when you reach the bottom of scrolling, the next 5 results are returned. But what actually happens is it only returns the 5 results when you hit the TOP of the scroll area. Try it: scroll down, nothing happens. Scroll back up to the top, the results are returned. What's going wrong? Here's my code I'm using: $('#col2').scroll(function(){ if ($('#col2').scrollTop() == $('#col2').height() - $('#col2').height()){ loadMore(); } }); loadMore(); is the function that gets the data and appends it.   • How does the momentum/inertial scroll work with the Magic Mouse on NSScrollView?

    When you scroll with the newer Apple Magic Mouse (at least on 10.6, I can't confirm any previous Mac OS) you get inertial scroll like scrolling on iPhone (that is, after a flick of the finger to scroll, it doesn't abruptly stop, but instead gradually slows down). This behaviour is "for free" with all NSScrollViews, it would appear. There are exceptional cases, such as Tweetie for Mac (I've heard Tweetie was written with a custom Table View class that works akin to how UITableView works on iPhone). My question is, how do the scroll views know how to do this inertial scrolling? My guess is the mouse [driver] repeatedly sends scroll events with a dampening scroll magnitude (or something like that) over the scroll period. But I'm not really sure how it works. I am having some scrolling problems in my scrollview class and I'm trying to figure out why (obviously we don't have the source code to Tweetie to see why it doesn't get the proper scrolling), but just trying to better understand how it works in order to fix my own problems.

  • How can I work around the fact that in C++, sin(M_PI) is not 0?

    In C++, const double Pi = 3.14159265; cout << sin(Pi); // displays: 3.58979e-009 it SHOULD display the number zero I understand this is because Pi is being approximated, but is there any way I can have a value of Pi hardcoded into my program that will return 0 for sin(Pi)? (a different constant maybe?) In case you're wondering what I'm trying to do: I'm converting polar to rectangular, and while there are some printf() tricks I can do to print it as "0.00", it still doesn't consistently return decent values (in some cases I get "-0.00") The lines that require sin and cosine are: x = r*sin(theta); y = r*cos(theta); BTW: My Rectangular - Polar is working fine... it's just the Polar - Rectangular Thanks! edit: I'm looking for a workaround so that I can print sin(some multiple of Pi) as a nice round number to the console (ideally without a thousand if-statements) edit: In case anyone's curious, this was what I landed on: double sin2(double theta) // in degrees { double s = sin(toRadians(theta)); if (fabs(s - (int)s) < 0.000001) { return floor(s + 0.5); } return s; } where toRadians() is a macro that converts to radians

  • Push notifications work for Ad Hoc, but not when downloaded from the Apple store.

    My app just got approved for the apple store. I downloaded it an installed it on my iPhone - but it looks like push notifications are broken! I was successfully testing push notifications in production using an adHoc provisioning profile. I had no problems. The only thing I did differently when I submitted to apple was using an app store distribution profile. The application never asks me (or anyone else who has downloaded it) if I want to receive push notifications. Consequently, the phone never talks to my server to send the push token (because application:didRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithDeviceToken: is presumably never called). Also the application does not appear in the settings app under the notification settings. What could I be doing wrong??

  • Why don't my scrollbars work properly when programmatically hiding rows in silverlight Datagrid?

    I have a Silverlight datagrid with custom code that allows for +/- buttons on the lefthand side and can display a table with a tree structure. The +/- buttons are bound to a IsExpanded property on my ViewModelRows, as I call them. The visibility of rows is bound to an IsVisible property on the ViewModelRows which is determined based on whether or not all of the parent rows are expanded. Straightforward enough. This code works fine in that if I scroll up and down the grid with PageUp/PageDown or the arrow keys, all the right rows are hidden and everything has the right structure and I can play with the +/- buttons to my hearts content. However, the vertical scroll bar on the right hand side, although it starts off the correct size and it scrolls through the rows smoothly, when I collapse rows and then re-expand them, doesn't go back to its correct size. The scrollbar can still usually be moved around to scroll through the whole collection, but because it is too big, once the bar moves to the bottom, there are still more rows to go through and it sort of jerkily shoots all the way down to the bottom or sometimes fails to scroll at all. This is pretty hard to describe so I included a screenshot with the black lines drawn on to show the difference in scrollbar length even though the two grids have the same number of rows expanded. I think this might be a bug related to the way the Datagrid does virtualization of rows. It seems to me like it isn't properly keeping track of how tall each row is supposed to be when expansion states change. Is there a way to programmatically "poke" (read hack) it to recalculate its scrollbar size on LoadingRow or something ugly like that? I'd include a code sample but there's 2 c# files and 1 xaml file so I wanted to see if anyone else has heard of this sort of issue before I try to make it reproducible in a self-contained way. Once again, scrolling with the arrow keys works fine so I'm pretty sure the underlying logic and binding is working, there's just some issue with the row height not being calculated properly.   • Why does my Excel add-in only half work?

    I've created an Excel add-in using Visual Studio 2008. It has a ribbon, a bunch of panes and code that adds sheets and ranges and gets information scraped from a web page. When I run it on my dev PC it works perfectly. I used the Publish command to publich it and installed on a Windows XP virtual PC. The installation seemed fine and when I open Excel I see my ribbon. If I click a button that shows a pane, up pops the pane. If I enter some details into the pane that should create a range and populate it with data from a web page, the range is created but the web page is not visited (I have tested that I have connectivity). One of my buttons adds a hidden worksheet and another displays or hides that sheet. One of these buttons is not working. I've tried everything I can think of. I'm wondering if there are any permissions or trust issues I need to deal with?

It works great but if p_date is a custom scalar value function (returning the end of day in my case) the execution plan is altered an the query goes from 1 sec to 1 minute execution time.   • Does <httpRedirect> in web.config work in a mono setup? Or is it IIS7 specific?

    We had some content restructure recently and I'd like to put in some redirect rules into web.config so bookmarks to the old pages can get routed to their new locations/pages. I tried using this approach: <location path="~/product/productA.aspx"> <system.webServer> <httpRedirect enabled="true" destination="~/product/category/productA.aspx" exactDestination="false" childOnly="true" httpResponseStatus="Permanent" /> </system.webServer> </location> But all I'm getting when I go to "http://www.oursite.com/product/productA.aspx" is our http 404 page. Am I doing something wrong, or is the httpRedirect tag in web.config not supported in mono? worked, but not ideal for what we want to achieve. Thank you :)

    As suggested by (among others) Kazi Manzur Rashid in this blog post, I am using ActionFilterAttributes to transfer model state from one request to another when redirecting. However, I find myself unable to write a unit test that test the behavior of these attributes. As an example, this what I want the test for the ImportModelStateAttribute to do: Setup the filterContext so that TempData[myKey] contains some fake "exported" ModelState (that is, a ModelStateDictionary I create myself, and add one error to) Make ModelState contain one model error. Call OnActionExecuting. Verify the two dictionaries are merged, and ModelState now contains both errors. I'm at a loss already on the second step.
