  I have xml document in variable (not in file). How can i get data storaged in that? I don't have any additional file with that, i have it 'inside' my sourcecode. When i use DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); Document doc = db.parse(XML); (XML is my xml variable), i get an error java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\netbeans\app-s7013\<network ip_addr="10.0.0.0\8" save_ip="true"> File not found.

• How to Debug Java Application using VIM/GVIM?

I added ctags to it and I am able to navigate now comfortably. Only problem left for me is "Debugging"? I tried searching for some links, and couldn't a useful one? If anyone using or familiar with Java Debugging using vim/Gvim, can provide there inputs/ links/ tutorials, it would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

  I'm looking for a Java Profiler for use in a very high demand production environment, either commercial or free, that meets all of the following requirements: Lightweight integration with code (no recompile with special options, no code hooks, etc). Dropping some profiler specific .jars alongside the application code is ok. Should be able to connect/disconnect to the JVM without restarting the application. When profiling is not active, no impact to performance When profiling is active, negligible impact to performance. Very slight degradation is acceptable. Must do all the 'expected' stuff a profiler does - time spent in each method to find hotspots, object allocation/memory profiling, etc. Essentially I need something that can sit dormant in production when everything is fine without anyone knowing or caring that it is there, but then be able to connect to it hassle (and performance degradation) free to pinpoint the hard to find problems like hotspots and synchronization issues.

• Encoding problem in Java Server Side application.

  Hi! I have following problem - i`m running Java WS application. The server side (Axis2 WS Modules on Apache Tomcat) is running at Ubuntu server. The problem is when i get some information from client side in cyrilic and store in database it goes like "?????". If i add data in db directly(From Remote MYSQL Console - there is NO problem). Before move to ubuntu server side was at Windows XP and there was no problem? Sorry for bad explanation, but i have no idea where to start! Thanks in advance!

• Java SOAP WSDL 1.1 message sending all the parameters (even future ones)

  I have to communicate with a SOAP Web Service defined in a WSDL 1.1. All the parameters are optional in the WSDL like: <xsd:element name="Submitter" type="xsd:string"/> but if I do not send them I get an error because the parameter was not sent, so instead I have to send an empty string for any parameter I do not intent to send. So instead of not sending the element I have to send: <Submitter></Submitter> The problem is that the WebService publisher does not have any problem adding new parameters at any point in time but I must sent at least an empty string for all the parameters. How may I call this WebService in Java so every time I call the WebService the WSDL is read so that all the parameters are sent having the parameters I care for are actually filled with the data I provide? I am currently using Apache CXF but I am open to anything to solve this problem.

• Storing HTML in MySQL using Java

  Hello there again, So, I'm working on a project now where I should store webpages inside a database, I'm using crawler4j to crawl and Proxool along with MySQL Java Connector to connect to my database. When I tested the application I got: com.mysql.jdbc.MysqlDataTruncation: Data truncation: Data too long for column 'HTMLData'. The HTMLData column wasTEXT. When I changed the HTMLData column to LONGTEXT the error was gone, but I'm afraid it might get back in the future. Any idea on how to do that perfectly so I don't worry about that error (or any other similar error) in the future? Thanks :)

• Java Servlet says file does not exist

  Hello World! I have developed a java servlet that monitors a folder on a network drive for new files then does some actions on them depending on what kind of file it is. It worked in Eclipse when Eclipse and Tomcat were running with each other, but now that I have deployed it onto a server(different machine), the servlet keeps logging that it cannot find the folder to be mapped. The exact same network drive is mapped, and the folder definitely exists. This problem only occurs when the servlet is run on the server, not on the development machine. Thanks! PS: It is a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Server with Tomcat v6 installed.

  I'm implementing some algorithms to teach myself about graphs and how to work with them. What would you recommend is the best way to do that in Java? • Global Exception Handlers in Java

  I am thinking of setting up a global, default Exception handler for my (Android) Mobile application(which uses Java syntax) using Thread.setDefaultUncaughtExceptionHandler(...) call. I am thinking of just displaying an Alert Dialog with appropriate message to the user. Are there any gotchas, caveats and rules that one needs to follow when setting DefaultExceptionHandlers? Any best practices like making sure that the process is killed, full stack trace is written to logs etc. ? Links to documentation, tutorials etc. that can throw some light on this are welcome.   Greets- We gots a few nutters in work who enjoy using while(true) { //Code } in their code. As you can imagine this maxes out the CPU. Does anyone know ways to reduce the CPU utilization so that other people can use the server as well. The code itself is just constantly polling the internet for updates on sites. Therefore I'd imagine a little sleep method would greatly reduce the the CPU usage. Also all manipulation is being done in String objects (Java) anyone know how much StringBuilders would reduce the over head by? Thanks for any pointers

• How to rate a connect four game situation in java

  Hey, I am trying to write a simple AI for a "Get four" game. The basic game principles are done, so I can throw in coins of different color, and they stack on each other and fill a 2D Array and so on and so forth. until now this is what the method looks like: public int insert(int x, int color) //0 = empty, 1=player1 2=player2" X is the horizontal coordinate, as the y coordinate is determined by how many stones are in the array already, I think the idea is obvious. Now the problem is I have to rate specific game situations, so find how many new pairs, triplets and possible 4 in a row I can get in a specific situation to then give each situation a specific value. With these values I can setup a "Game tree" to then decide which move would be best next (later on implementing Alpha-Beta-Pruning). My current problem is that I can't think of an efficient way to implement a rating of the current game situation in a java method. • [java] Threading socket handler for two sided communication in tcp port

  I want to make a chat which will be programed in java. one computer will host the server and the other one will initiate the socket [tcp port]. now from what I read there should be a loop that will constantly read the socket which means it will make the code stuck. I have a button that is 'actionperformed' on mouse release, I want to know if it will work along with the loops that constantly reads the socket so that it will also send the infromation I wrote. If I must thread it, I want to know if the run() method must be void because if I thread it it will mean creating a new class, and the whole GUI is one big class which includes a text area, and it's private. also how can I extract the information from the socket directly to the text area? lets say the textarea variable is called "chatOutput". thx :)

• Perl launched from Java takes forever

  I know this is an absolute shot in the dark, but we're absolutely perplexed. A perl (5.8.6) script run by Java (1.5) is taking more than an hour to complete. The same script, when run manually from the command line takes 12 minutes to complete. This is on a Linux host. Logging is the same in both cases and the script is run with the same parameters in both cases. The script does some complex stuff like Oracle DB access, some scp's, etc, but again, it does the exact same actions in both cases. We're stumped. Has anyone ever run into a similar situation? If not and if you were faced with the same situation, how would you consider debugging it?

• Send custom data when initializing java WebService over soap

  Hello. I have a question about sending additional data over soap to the functions. My webService function requests only one integer, for example an getDocumentPrivilage(DocumentID). In another WebService user registered and he got an unique ID, so the other application can see who he is. So on Service one he registers, gets id and it has to send it to the other webservice tor the privilage. Id dont wish to rewrite the function so that it gets the unique ID (like this getDocumentPrivilage(uniqID,DocumentID)) but, the wish is that i would be able to create a client that sends this data at the initialization or somehow as some sort of parameter behind the function. Is this possible?? I tried the ServiceLifecycle but cant see any setting i've given in. Im using WebSphere CE for the server and Jax-ws Creating the webapp in java. When you save to Oracle VARCHAR(15) does Oracle also store this as UTF-16? Does the length of an Oracle VARCHAR refer to number of Unicode characters (and not number of bytes)? And then when we write b to the ServletResponse is this being written as UTF-16 or are we by default converting to another encoding like UTF-8?

I'm thinking based on what I've seen that the answer is "no" (due to type erasure), but I'd be interested if anyone can see something I'm missing: class SomeContainer<E> { E createContents() { return what??? } } EDIT: It turns out that Super Type Tokens could be used to resolve my issue, but it requires a lot of reflection-based code, as some of the answers below have indicated. • Fast way to pass a simple java object from one thread to another

  I have a callback which receives an object. I make a copy of this object, and I must pass it on to another thread for further processing. It's very important for the callback to return as fast as possible. Ideally, the callback will write the copy to some sort of lock-free container. I only have the callback called from a single thread and one processing thread. I only need to pass a bunch of doubles to the other thread, and I know the maximum number of doubles (around 40). Any ideas? I'm not very familiar with Java, so I don't know the usual ways to pass stuff between threads.

  I've written a custom comparator to compare my node classes, but the java priority queue is not returning my items in the correct order. Here is my comparator: public int compare(Node n1, Node n2){ if (n1.getF() > n2.getF()){ return +1; } else if (n1.getF() < n2.getF()){ return -1; } else { // equal return 0; } } Where getF returns a double. However after inserting several Nodes into the priority queue, I print them out using: while(open.size() > 0) { Node t = (Node)(open.remove()); System.out.println(t.getF()); } Which results in: 6.830951894845301 6.830951894845301 6.0 6.0 5.242640687119285 7.4031242374328485 7.4031242374328485 8.071067811865476 Any ideas why this is so? For Example I have a list of function names as so: functionOne functionThree functionTwo The XML File looks like this: <xml> <function>functionOne</function> <function>functionTwo</function> <function>functionThree</function> </xml> So I would like to sort the list so the function names are as so: functionOne functionTwo functionThree Now Im trying to do this for Variables as well, so there are around 500+ unique 'items'. Does anyone have any idea how I can go about doing this? Now for the file that determines that sort order doesn't have to be XML it just what I use the most, it can be anything that can get the job done. Thanks in advance for your time.

  Sorry I don't know if this is very clear, but I'm pretty new to Java. So I have a JFrame with a BorderLayout containing a JPanel and a JButton. What I want to do is when something happens in my JPanel, I want for example change the text of the JButton, or enable/disable it. How would I do that? How can I access the JButton from the JPanel? I know some ways of doing it but I don't think they're the best way to do it. What would be the best way to do this? Thanks in advance

• when to use StringBuilder in java

  It is supposed to be generally preferable to use a StringBuilder for String concatenation in Java. Is it always the case? What i mean is : Is the overhead of creating a StringBuilder object, calling the append() method and finally toString() smaller then concatenating existing Strings with + for 2 Strings already or is it only advisable for more Strings? If there is such a threshold, what does it depend on (the String length i suppose, but in which way)? And finally - would you trade the readability and conciseness of the + concatenation for the performance of the StringBuilder in smaller cases like 2, 3, 4 Strings?
