  • How to enlarge ubuntu partition

    I installed Ubuntu 11.10 recently by making a 5.6GB partition from the Ubiquity installer. I wanted to upgrade to 12.04, so I opened the Update Manager and clicked on 'Update Packages' (I was following this guide) After clicking, it said that there was too little space available. So, I want to enlarge my Ubuntu partition so that there is appropriate space for upgrading. I downloaded Gparted. I read another guide which said my computer won't boot if I resize the Ubuntu partition because '/boot will be misplaced and I will have to repair GRUB2 myself.' So how do I do this easily? Thank you in advance.

  • fglrx installation without success - gl_conf issue

    I followed the steps of this guide. I've installed the drivers without any problems with sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb. The next step is Generate a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, but I can't do this due to the following reason: When I enter sudo aticonfig --initial -f the terminal show me this output: sudo: aticonfig: command not found This problem is caused by an error with the symbolics links into the fglrx directory. Look at this section, where you can see -how to fix it- but it doesn't work for me. Why it doesn't? Because after I enter sudo update-alternatives --auto gl_conf the terminal show me this: update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for gl_conf. What I have to do to fix this problem?     Hello I want to write a HTML5 multiplayer game in which there are rooms with two players answering a series of questions with 3 possible answers, 10sec/question, which are being downloaded from a server. It will have some ratings and so on. I want to make it as scalable as possible. I wonder what technologies to use to accomplish that. HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript obviously. But what about the server-side? I have been researching and found that Socket.IO + Node.js + mongoDB would do the job but after doing some more research it maybe not. Can you suggest me some kind of architecture for doing this game? Free technologies, if possible. Or what to read and from where to start in order to understand how to do it. Thanx in advance! P.S. I have an experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, C#, ASP.NET MVC and relational db's.

  • Rollback in Oracle and SQL Server

    I have an Oracle background. It was interesting to see how rollback handled in Oracle and SQL Server. There is no begin trans in Oracle.  What oracle does is it will store the data in a temporary area called the rollback segments. Untill your issue the commit command the records will be kept there. You can even rollback your update statement by issuing the rollback command. When you issue the commit command the records in the rollback segments are written to the redo log files. The same logic for insert is also applicable except that there is no mirror image of the record kept.   In SQL Server, if you want to be able to roll back statement, you neet to start your statement with a "begin tran" . Then, you can rollback a transaction, if this is needed. begin tran update Person set FirstName = 'Arthur' where PersonId = 10 -- select firstname from Person rollback

  • Boots to a totally blank screen after I installed some ATI Radeon card updates

    I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, dual boot with win7 on ThinkPad T400, I followed Ubuntu update hints and installed some update for my ATI Radeon graphic card, but when I boot to Ubuntu(means I can still load GRUB), the tragedy happened, the screen goes to blank and no matter what key stroke, I can not get any responds, I try to go to text terminal, but impossible! However when I hit the power button, the computer would pop out the Ubuntu shutdown screen briefly and shut down. I figure out I should delete the updates package of my graphic card, but I don't even get a chance to go to text terminal, please help me!

My Problem is there I can't update the version 173 to the latest version of drivers using xswat PPA. Whenever I do it and reboot but the NVIDIA xserver sttings always shows me the same version. Which option would allow me to update my drivers to the current version?

    I have a simple C++ RPC that lets you have remote class instances that support live members (data structures) update as well as method calls. For example I had a class declared like this (pseudocode): class Sum{ public: RPC_FIELD(int lastSum); RPC_METHOD(int summ(int a, int b)) { lastSum = a + b; return lastSum; } }; On machine A I had its instance. On machines B and C I had created its instances and connected them to machine A. So now they actually do all processing on machine A but machines B, C get lastSum class field updates automatically (and can subscribe to update event). How to call (Nice Name) such a functionality when we have binding over network done automatically by RPC library? How RPC library creator can announce such feature?

  • Installing Ubuntu on virtualbox with a windows 8 host

    Installing ubuntu-13.10-desktop-i386.iso gets me to the graphical login screen but after I enter the password I get a black screen. Ctrl-Alt-F2 brings me to a terminal where I can restart lightdm, enter my password again to see another black screen. The screen saver can actually kick into action there and I was told to update packages, but no unity or other ui, just blackenss. The host is windows8-x64 and Virtualbox 4.3.2. I tried installing ubuntu-12.04.3-desktop-i386.iso but that hung during setup. Is there a way to debug? I'm now trying to install Debian to see if that works but wow the network installer takes its sweet time... Update: Debian does work though it gives me a notification that Gnome 3 failed to load. The visual desktop works though so I don't know if there was a substantive problem.

Is IE9 a modern browser? well Are you thing that they make something bettter then thing another that what Firefox and chrome do whenever Microsoft do this. that's point that Microsoft always blast IE because they make version upon version not upon update like Firefox make 3.6.14 after 3.6.13 and chrome give update soon as possible but IE not come soon. they will thing for making 10 instead of giving update on 9. well what they tell us new. they make fool public everytime i believe they make fool public as same as today they maked for version 9 they show developer tool in 9 have three new tabs or pael are this enough. whenever  in chrome and firefox their is many plugin who make development easier IE still have a developer tool who not have enough power like Firebug in Firefox. they show performance but forget luna user [window xp] and their IE never runs on other plateform but chrome and firefox can. no customization in IE whenever chrome and firefox have uncountable plugin and addons. show features now in IE who already implemented in firefox very early. well their is no rule that static goes right every time not sure that IE and Firefox both are right in their language. their is no one predict what thing goes better in future. so well keep a thing in mind never wasted time and also thing to make task easier even you need to use sollution opensource or closesoure inside or outside MS does not matter. well everyone tell you much more then they do even IE and some other. they never tell you this thing not in IE but in another can be found they never tell you use other whenever you need a thing and never can be found in their software. you need to more beware of IE because they make them commorcial not really for public if really then why they stop wxp user to use them as well firefox and chrome never force. because they need a thing that force more then more copy of windows sale. so they thing to add a thing in window 8. the IE9 they thing to make before that they thing to make  this for windows 8. they always force user to purchase this for this. this for this. and this trick sell their software. well outside MS Mozilla and Chrome all behave better with user and their feedback. they respect user their privacy and feedback. if you not believe that how much problem you found in IE and they got solved soon as in chrome and firefox bug kill soon. because IE not opensource we need to  boycutt them secondly their is no customization then they make user task easier even with twitter and facebook.

  • AS3 Calculating Delta Time In Seconds

    Here is how I've been trying to implement delta time based on different internet resources. var startTime:Number = getTimer(); game.Update(deltaTime); deltaTime = Number(getTimer() - startTime) * 0.001; My issue with this is it doesn't seem to be giving me accurate timing. The main update shows the frame time at 0.001 and when reinitializing the level it goes to 0.002. I'm using dt else where for a timer and later on time based physics so I would like it to work as expected. I must be missing something silly.

I tried to install mysql-query-browser in my Ubuntu 12.04 GUI, I get the error message: Updating mysql-administrator installation paths... ./mysql-administrator: 59: ./mysql-administrator: cannot create /opt/mysql-gui-tools-5.0/lib/pangorc.bak: Permission denied Error updating files for new installation path. Please make sure mysql-administrator is installed correctly and you have proper write permissions in the installation directory.   • Hosting a website from a dynamic IP

    I recently upgraded my internet to the point that it is much faster and more reliable than my current webhost. I would like to move my current domain to be hosted at home, but my IP address is dynamic. As far as I know, I only get a new IP when I restart my modem and or router (which is almost never) or when cable one (my ISP) pushes out a firmware update (rarely). There are a few ways I can see doing this 1) convince my ISP to give me a static IP 2) assign my router my current IP to force a static IP (which might work?) 3) set my dns record to my current IP address and update it on the rare occasions that it changes. Obviously I'm hoping that the first one works, but I don't want to pay a lot of extra money (if that's what it takes) to get a static IP address. Has anyone had any luck with something like that?

  • Display current layout (language code/country flag) in keyboard indicator

    Just upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10, and the keyboard indicator applet no longer displays the two-letter country code for the active layout. This is terrible. Is this the default behaviour? Anyone using two layouts can't tell which language they're in. I can't seem to find the setting for this, it used to be in the preferences for keyboard layout. Update 1: In case this wasn't obvious - I have two keyboard layouts - English and Hebrew. I just upgraded form 10.04, where the country code (USA/IL) was displayed, overlaid on the flag. Now all I get is a vague keyboard icon, and can't find the settings for this. Update 2: this seems to be a bug that people have been reporting since Lucid, and is now back in Maverick

    Future time: Since installing Ubuntu 12.04, I regularly have to fun fsck and reset my clock because it shows a 'future time' : Err.Msg. "superblock last mount time is in the future by less than a day, probably due to hardware clock being incorrectly set." FIXED.   • replacing kernel on non-booting ec2 instance

    So I had an amazon ec2 instance crash during the update to 14.04LTS. Frustratingly, it appears the kernel might be bad (or at least that's what the log below says to me, I could totally be wrong). I'm able to mount the volume to another, working server, chroot the broken volume, and sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-3.MOSTRECENT. Unfortunately though, when I try sudo update-grub, it comes back with /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?). What am I missing?   • How to remove username from "Me" menu (right near to power button on the top panel)? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: How do I replace the MeMenu username with my actual name? My user name takes approximately as long as would 6 icons. I don't need to see my username, I am the only user of my computer. How can I remove it? I use Ubuntu 10.10. UPDATE: The answer found: gconftool -s /system/indicator/me/display --type int 0 UPDATE: Unfortunately the solution doesn't work any more. Now it totally removes the instant messaging menu (including the icon) instead of just removing a name.

  • Setting proxy from terminal

    I have tried changing my proxy settings in a terminal as: export HTTP_PROXY=http://10.1.3.1:8080 and export http_proxy=http://10.1.3.1:8080 but when I try to install a new package or update apt-get, apt-get starts displaying messages from which it seems it is trying to connect to a previously set proxy: sudo apt-get update 0% [Connecting to 10.1.2.2 (10.1.2.2)] [Connecting to 10.1.2.2 (10.1.2.2) I have tried setting the proxy via bashrc file but that din work either. As far as I remember 10.1.2.2 was set using GNOME GUI but I don't have access to the GUI right now so I am trying to set it from terminal.
