• How to set a value from another class

  Its said that property should not be "Set" only and it should be "Get" as well. What should i do if I need to set value to a variable from some other class? The will keep changing so I cannot pass it through constructor. Shall I create a function for this as shown below? class A { public void SetValue() { b = new B(); b.SetTest(10); } } class B { int test; public void SetTest(int value) { test = value; } } What are the other alternatives?

  In javascript you can call a function as a function or as a constructor. For example you can do : myObject = new Number(13); myPrimitiveValue = Number(13); or simply myPrimitiveValue = 13; I understand the difference between the results. Can you explain me under which reasonable circumstances creating a number, a boolean or a string as an object is desirable? For example, ability to set new properties (this is something you can do on objects but can't really do on primitive values) is almost always a bad idea for objects containing number/boolean/string. Why would I want a numeric/boolean/string object?

When there's wrong data, for every thing, some IllegalArgumentException with different message is thrown. So I would like to write tests for it, but how can i recognize what error was thrown? • Call function by pointer and set parametrs in memory block

  Hi, I've little problem : I'm solving problem with calling function by pointer and passing to it parameters in continuous memory block. My goal is to have function named e.g CallFunc(void * func,void *params, unsigned int param_length); that I'll send function pointer, pointer to function's parameters and eventually parameters length and this calling function will call passed function with it's parameters. I will like write this in C/C++, but if somebody has idea, how this resolve in other language, that supports DLL generation and exportet functions, it will be fine too. • How do i get (is it possible to) a reference to the class that creates an instance of another class.

  Odd situation... I need to create a new instance of a class that needs a member of the calling class. But i can't pass a reference to the calling class through the constructor. The solution i am looking for is something like this: Public Class ChildClass Public Sub New(args) _MyMember = GetMemberFromCallingClass() ... ... End Sub End Class I want this to work without having to manually pass any references or variables from the calling class to the new instance of ChildClass. Is this possible and if so, what should i look at to make this part of my code.

• finding the value of radio button with jquery

  i have this code below to show different divs when i choose certain radio buttons: if ($("input[@name='exerciseRB']:checked").val() == 'New') { $("#newExercise").show(); $("#existingExercise").hide(); } else { $("#newExercise").hide(); $("#existingExercise").show(); } at first, i just had two radio buttons (both named exerciseRB and everything works fine. Now, later in my web page i added two new radio buttons (with the name lessonRB). The issue is that once i added these other new radio buttons when i look up this in firebug: $("input[@name='exerciseRB']:checked") i actually get an array back with both the exerciseRB item as well as the lessonRB item. Its almost as if the @name='exerciseRB' is being ignored. any ideas here?

• Reflection alternative for switch on enum in order to select namespace/class

  Hi, I have an interface named IHarvester. There are 3 implementations of that interface, each under their own namespace: Google Yahoo Bing A HarvesterManager uses the given harvester. It knows the interface and all 3 implementations. I want some way of letting the class user say in which harvester it wants to use. And in the code select that implementation, without a switch-case implementation. Can reflection save my day? Here is the code bits: // repeat for each harvester namespace Harvester.Google { public abstract class Fetcher : BaseHarvester, IInfoHarvester {...} } public enum HarvestingSource { Google, Yahoo, Bing, } class HarvesterManager { public HarvestingSource PreferedSource {get;set;} public HarvestSomthing() { switch (PreferedSource) .... // awful... } } Thanks. • DataSet.GetChanges - Save the updated record in a different table than the source one

  I'm doing operation on a dataset containing data from a sql table named Test_1 and then get the updated records using the DataSet.GetChanges(DataRowState.Modified) function. Then i try to save the dataset containing the updated records on a different table than the source one (the table is names Test and has the same structure as Test_1) using the following statement: sqlDataAdapter.Update(changesDataSet,"Test"); I'm getting the following error : Update unable to find TableMapping['Test'] or DataTable 'Test' I'm new to ado.net and don't even know if it"s something possible. Any advice is welcome. Just to provide a bit of context. ETL jobs are importing data in temp table with same structure as the original but with _jobid suffix. Right after a rule engine is doing validation before updating the original table.

• what is the accepted naming convention for int, string, array, list, object, etc...

  The company I work for now uses a set naming convention for their C# variables such as iSomeName for int, sSomeName for string, aSomeName for arrays, bSomeName for boolean, dSomeName for datetime and so on. My previous employer did not use the i, s, a, b and d prefixes and just named the variables a good understandable name. My impression is that these prefixes lost favor a while ago and from what I read it is not the current trend. It seems fine to me either way as long as the variable is descriptive enough to understand what it is doing but I was wondering what the now-a-day accepted practice is for naming variables?

  I have a constructor that has a series of classes and functions within it - in each function I check if the param is set to show the error and output if so. Like so using an inline if. The issue and question is short of keeping two versions is this approach not wise in that each IF has to be evaluated thus adding to the time it takes to perform? debugSlide = (bag.debug==1)? console.log("item id =" + bag.itemId) : 0; How do you do this? Issue: Opening a view model in my application sometimes makes dropdowns/datepickers nonfunctional. ie. dropdown won't drop and the datepicker calendar won't come up I suspect a binding issue but don't see one. Dropdowns have normal things like strings, numbers. One drop has a list of mini views. Datepickers are bound to nullable dates set in the constructor of the viewmodel. Note: These same things work in other viewmodels/views. I can paste code, I'm just not sure what code is relevant here.

  I have a class template which builds a simple array based on the template parameters as one of its members. I need to be able to initialize every element in the array to a single value in one of the constructors. Unfortunately this constructor must be constexpr. The relevant part boils down to: template <typename T, size_t N> class foo { T data[N]; constexpr foo(T val) { // initialize data with N copies of val } }; Using std::fill or a loop is incompatible with the constexpr requirement. Initializing with : data{val} only sets the first element of the array and zero-initializes the remainder. How can this be achieved? I feel like there should be a solution with variadic templates and tuples etc...

  I have several child classes that extend a parent class, forced to have a uniform constructor. I have a queue which keeps a list of these classes, which must extend MergeHeuristic. I've seen similar such applications which work with MBR & partitioning. I'm curious. How do they read clusters/cylinders/sectors from the disk? Is it again OS dependent?   I'm trying to represent a function that takes no arguments and returns no value (I'm simulating the setTimeout function in JavaScript, if you must know.) case class Scheduled(time : Int, callback : => Unit) doesn't compile, saying " `val' parameters may not be call-by-name" case class Scheduled(time : Int, callback : () => Unit) compiles, but has to be invoked strangely, instead of Scheduled(40, { println("x") } ) I have to do this Scheduled(40, { () => println("x") } ) What also works is class Scheduled(time : Int, callback : Unit => Unit) but is invoked in an even-less-sensible way Scheduled(40, { x : Unit => println("x") } ) (What would a variable of type Unit be?) What I want of course is a constructor that can be invoke the way I would invoke it if it were an ordinary function: Scheduled(40, println("x") ) Give baby his bottle!

My Obj class has a function pointer attribute. Could that be the problem? class Obj{ void(*funct)(); and in the constructor: Obj(void(*f)()) { funct = f; } where is my mistake? The function pointer, the createThread itself, or type-casting? I tried whatever I could think of.

  I have come up with a data structure that combines some of the advantages of linked lists with some of the advantages of fixed-size arrays. It seems very obvious to me, and so I'd expect someone to have thought of it and named it already. Does anyone know what this is called: Take a small fixed-size array. If the number of elements you want to put in your array is greater than the size of the array, add a new array and whatever pointers you like between the old and the new. The stored procedure can of course have any number of input and output parameters and do whatever it needs to return data (including multiple rows), which is accomplished by the "suspend" statement (which as it name implies, suspends the SP execution, returns data to the caller, and resumes with the next statement) How can I create such kind of stored procedures in Oracle?
