• BAT file will not run from Task Scheduler but will from Command Line

  I'm trying to run a BAT script from Task Scheduler in Windows 2008 R2 and it runs for 3 seconds and then stops. It says it successfully completes but I know it doesn't. I can run this script from the command line directly, and it runs just fine. The bat file I'm running actually deletes files older than 7 days using "forfiles" then I'm mapping a network drive, moving the files across the network using robocopy, and then closing the network connection. I have taken the network and copy options out of the file and it still does the same thing. • SOA Suite Integration: Part 1: Building a Web Service

  Over the next few weeks I will be posting blog entries outlying the SOA Suite integration of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework. This will illustrate how easy it is to integrate by providing some samples. I will use a consistent set of features as examples. The examples will be simple and while will not illustrate ALL the possibilities it will illustrate the relative ease of integration. Think of them as a foundation. You can obviously build upon them. Now, to ease a few customers minds, this series will certainly feature the latest version of SOA Suite and the latest version of Oracle Utilities Application Framework but the principles will apply to past versions of both those products. So if you have Oracle SOA Suite 10g or are a customer of Oracle Utilities Application Framework V2.1 or above most of what I will show you will work with those versions. It is just easier in Oracle SOA Suite 11g and Oracle Utilities Application Framework V4.x. This first posting will not feature SOA Suite at all but concentrate on the capability for the Oracle Utilities Application Framework to create Web Services you can use for integration. The XML Application Integration (XAI) component of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework allows product objects to be exposed as XML based transactions or as Web Services (or both). XAI was written before Web Services became fashionable and has allowed customers of our products to provide a consistent interface into and out of our product line. XAI has been enhanced over the last few years to take advantages of the maturing landscape of Web Services in the market place to a point where it now easier to integrate to SOA infrastructure. There are a number of object types that can be exposed as Web Services: Maintenance Objects – These are the lowest level objects that can be exposed as Web Services. Customers of past versions of the product will be familiar with XAI services based upon Maintenance Objects as they used to be the only method of generating Web Services. These are still supported for background compatibility but are starting to become less popular as they were strict in their structure and were solely attribute based. To generate Maintenance Object based Web Services definition you need to use the XAI Schema Editor component. Business Objects – In Oracle Utilities Application Framework V2.1 we introduced the concept of Business Objects. These are site or industry specific objects that are based upon Maintenance Objects. These allow sites to respecify, in configuration, the structure and elements of a Maintenance Object and other Business Objects (they are true objects with support for inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation etc.). These can be exposed as Web Services. Business Services – As with Business Objects, we introduced Business Services in Oracle Utilities Application Framework V2.1 which allowed applications services and query zones to be expressed as custom services. These can then be exposed as Web Services via the Business Service definition. Service Scripts - As with Business Objects and Business Services, we introduced Service Scripts in Oracle Utilities Application Framework V2.1. These allow services and/objects to be combined into complex objects or simply expose common routines as callable scripts. These can also be defined as Web Services. For the purpose of this series we will restrict ourselves to Business Objects. The techniques can apply to any of the objects discussed above. Now, lets get to the important bit of this blog post, the creation of a Web Service. To build a Business Object, you first logon to the product and navigate to the Administration Menu by selecting the Admin Menu from the Menu action on left top of the screen (next to Home). A popup menu will appear with the menu’s available. If you do not see the Admin menu then you do not have authority to use it. Here is an example: Navigate to the B menu and select the + symbol next to the Business Object menu item. This indicates that you want to ADD a new Business Object. This menu will appear if you are running Alphabetic mode in your installation (I almost forgot that point). You will be presented with the Business Object maintenance screen. You will fill out the following on the first tab (at a minimum): Business Object – The name of the Business Object. Typically you will make it descriptive and also prefix with CM to denote it as a customization (you can easily find it if you prefix it). As I running this on my personal copy of the product I will use my initials as the prefix and call the sample Web Service “AS-User”. Description – A short description of the object to tell others what it is used for. For my example, I will use “Anthony Shorten’s User Object”. Detailed Description – You can add a long description to help other developers understand your object. I am just going to specify “Anthony Shorten’s Test Object for SOA Suite Integration”. Maintenance Object – As this Business Service is going to be based upon a Maintenance Object I will specify the desired Maintenance Object. In this example, I have decided to use the Framework object USER. Now, I chose this for a number of reasons. It is meaningful, simple and is across all our product lines. I could choose ANY maintenance object I wished to expose (including any custom ones, if I had them). Parent Business Object – If I was not using a Maintenance Object but building a child Business Object against another Business Object, then I would specify the Parent Business Object here. I am not using Parent’s so I will leave this blank. You either use Parent Business Object or Maintenance Object not both. Application Service – Business Objects like other objects are subject to security. You can attach an Application Service to an object to specify which groups of users (remember services are attached to user groups not users) have appropriate access to the object. I will use a default service provided with the product, F1-DFLTS ,as this is just a demonstration so I do not have to be too sophisticated about security. Instance Control – This allows the object to create instances in its objects. You can specify a Business Object purely to hold rules. I am being simple here so I will set it to Allow New Instances to allow the Business Object to be used to create, read, update and delete user records. The rest of the tab I will leave empty as I want this to be a very simple object. Other options allow lots of flexibility. The contents should look like this: Before saving your work, you need to navigate to the Schema tab and specify the contents of your object. I will save some time. When you create an object the schema will only contain the basic root elements of the object (in fact only the schema tag is visible). When you go to the Schema Tab, on the dashboard you will see a BO Schema zone with a solitary button. This will allow you to Generate the Schema for you from our metadata. Click on the Generate button to generate a basic schema from the metadata. You will now see a Schema with the element tags and references to the metadata of the Maintenance object (in the mapField attribute). I could spend a while outlining all the ways you can change the schema with defaults, formatting, tagging etc but the online help has plenty of great examples to illustrate this. You can use the Schema Tips zone in the for more details of the available customizations. Note: The tags are generated from the language pack you have installed. The sample is English so the tags are in English (which is the base language of all installations). If you are using a language pack then the tags will be generated in the language of the user that generated the object. At this point you can save your Business Object by pressing the Save action. At this point you have a basic Business Object based on the USER maintenance object ready for use but it is not defined as a Web Service yet. To do this you need to define the newly created Business Object as an XAI Inbound Service. The easiest and quickest way is to select + off the XAI Inbound Service off the context menu on the Business Object maintenance screen. This will prepopulate the service definition with the following: Adapter – This will be set to Business Adaptor. This indicates that the service is either Business Object, Business Service or Service Script based. Schema Type – Whether the object is a Business Object, Business Service or Service Script. In this case it is a Business Object. Schema Name – The name of the object. In this case it is the Business Object AS-User. Active – Set to Yes. This means the service is available upon startup automatically. You can enable and disable services as needed. Transaction Type – A default transaction type as this is Business Object Service. More about this in later postings. In our case we use the default Read. This means that if we only specify data and not a transaction type then the product will assume you want to issue a read against the object. You need to fill in the following: XAI Inbound Service – The name of the Web Service. Usually people use the same name as the underlying object , in the case of this example, but this can match your sites interfacing standards. By the way you can define multiple XAI Inbound Services/Web Services against the same object if you want. Description and Detail Description – Documentation for your Web Service. I just supplied some basic documentation for this demonstration. You can now save the service definition. Note: There are lots of other options on this screen that allow for behavior of your service to be specified. I will leave them blank for now. When you save the service you are issued with two new pieces of information. XAI Inbound Service Id is a randomly generated identifier used internally by the XAI Servlet. WSDL URL is the WSDL standard URL used for integration. We will take advantage of that in later posts. An example of the definition is shown below: Now you have defined the service but it will only be available when the next server restart or when you flush the data cache. XAI Inbound Services are cached for performance so the cache needs to be told of this new service. To refresh the cache you can use the Admin –> X –> XAI Command menu item. From the command dropdown select Refresh Registry and press Send Command. You will see an XML of the command sent to the server (the presence of the XML means it is finished). If you have an error around the authorization, then check your default user and password settings on the XAI Options menu item. Be careful with flushing the cache as the cache is shared (unless of course you are the only Web Service user on the system – In that case it only affects you). The Web Service is NOW available to be used. To perform a simple test of your new Web Service, navigate to the Admin –> X –> XAI Submission menu item. You will see an open XML request tab. You need to type in the request XML you want to test in the Main tab. The first tag is the XAI Inbound Service Name and the elements are as per your schema (minus the schema tag itself as that is only used internally). My example is as follows (I want to return the details of user SYSUSER) – Remember to close tags. Hitting the Save button will issue the XML and return the response according to the Business Object schema. Now before you panic, you noticed that it did not ask for credentials. It propagates the online credentials to the service call on this function. You now have a Web Service you can use for integration. We will reuse this information in subsequent posts. The process I just described can be used for ANY object in the system you want to expose. This whole process at a minimum can take under a minute. Obviously I only showed the basics but you can at least get an appreciation of the ease of defining a Web Service (just by using a browser). The next posts now build upon this.   Hello, I tried the whole day just to import a cetrificate in winXP, but I allways failed. I did following: Create the certificate with private key (no pasword): makecert -sr LocalMachine -ss My -pe -sky exchange -n "CN=TestCert" -a sha1 -sv TestCert.pvk TestCert.cer Then put certificate and private key together into pfx file: pvk2pfx.exe -pvk TestCert.pvk -spc TestCert.cer -pfx TestCert.pfx Import pfx file with commandline tool (German System): winhttpcertcfg.exe -i TestCert.pfx -a NT-AUTORITÄT\NETZWERKDIENST -c LOCAL_MACHINE\My Error: Unable to import contents of PFX file. Please make sure the filename and path, as well as the password, are correct. Hint: "NT-AUTORITÄT\NETZWERKDIENST" -- "NT-AUTHORITY\NETWORKSERVICE" Filename is ok, password was not set. Even if I set the password (e.g. "MyPassword") in Step 1 and type at the end of step 3: ... -p MyPassword I got the same error. Then I tried to import in the certificate console (mmc with certificate snap-in). There i got following error: "Der private Schlüssel, den Sie importieren, erfordert möglicherweise einen Dienstanbieter, der nicht installiert ist." -- "The imported private key may requires a service-supplier which is not installed". But the Microsoft Crypto-Service is up and running. What else can I do? On Windows Vista and Windows 7 I got this running without these problems. I need this Certificate to run a WCF Service. • Synchronize Data between a Silverlight ListBox and a User Control

  One of the great things about XAML is the powerful data-binding capabilities. If you load up a list box with a collection of objects, you can display detail data about each object without writing any C# or VB.NET code. Take a look at Figure 1 that shows a collection of Product objects in a list box. When you click on a list box you bind the current Product object selected in the list box to a set of controls in a user control with just a very simple Binding statement in XAML.  Figure 1: Synchronizing a ListBox to a User Control is easy with Data Binding Product and Products Classes To illustrate this data binding feature I am going to just create some local data instead of using a WCF service. The code below shows a Product class that has three properties, namely, ProductId, ProductName and Price. This class also has a constructor that takes 3 parameters and allows us to set the 3 properties in an instance of our Product class. I added this namespace and assigned it a namespace prefix of “src” as shown in the line below: xmlns:src="clr-namespace:SL_SyncListBoxAndUserControl_CS" Next, to use the data from an instance of the Products collection, you create a UserControl.Resources section in the XAML and add a tag that creates an instance of the Products class and assigns it a key of “productCollection”.   <UserControl.Resources>    <src:Products x:Key="productCollection" />  </UserControl.Resources> Next, you bind the list box to this productCollection object using the ItemsSource property. You bind the ItemsSource of the list box to the static resource named productCollection. You can then set the DisplayMemberPath attribute of the list box to any property of the Product class that you want. In the XAML below I used the ProductName property. <ListBox x:Name="lstData"         ItemsSource="{Binding             Source={StaticResource productCollection}}"         DisplayMemberPath="ProductName" /> You now need to create an instance of the ucProduct user contol below the list box. You do this by once again referencing the “src” namespace and typing in the name of the user control. You then set the DataContext property on this user control to a binding. The binding uses the ElementName attribute to bind to the list box name, in this case “lstData”. The Path of the data is SelectedItem. These two attributes together tell Silverlight to bind the DataContext to the selected item of the list box. That selected item is a Product object. So, once this is bound, the bindings on each text box in the user control are updated and display the current product information. <src:ucProduct x:Name="prodDetail"               DataContext="{Binding ElementName=lstData,                                      Path=SelectedItem}" /> Summary Once you understand the basics of data binding in XAML, you eliminate a lot code that is otherwise needed to move data into controls and out of controls back into an object. Connecting two controls together is easy by just binding using the ElementName and Path properties of the Binding markup extension. Another good tip out of this blog is use user controls and set the DataContext of the user control to have all of the data on the user control update through the bindings. • Outlook errors and blank address book?

  I have a user with a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit. Office 2010 was installed also. Everything worked great until we installed Adobe Pro 9 and Wordperfect 12. (for outlook we are not using exchange). Then Outlook popped an error saying could not start Outlook. I then modified it to run in compatibility mode and Outlook starts. Then took compatibility mode off and outlook continues to start without difficulty. However, her address book went blank (contacts are all there). In the properties of the contact folder it is checked (and grayed out) to include this folder in the address book, and the Outlook address book is listed when I look at account properties. I tried creating a new profile to no avail. I tried creating a new profile and creating a new pst file - to no avail. I tried uninstalling office, removing the folders inside roaming and local, reinstalled office; got the same could not start Outlook error - did the compatibility mode bit and got it to start - but the Address book continues to be empty. Has anyone run across this before? I'm thinking that there must be some other preferences type folder other than those in Roaming and Local since her signature remained when I reinstalled Office.

• Excel VBA: select every other cell in a row range to be copied and pasted vertically

  i have a 2200+ page text file. It is delivered from a customer through a data exchange to us with astericks to separate values and tildes (~) to denote the end of a row. The file is sent to me as a text file in Word. Most rows are split in two (1 row covers a full line and part of a second line). i transfer segments (10 page chunks) of it at a time into Excel where, unfortunately, any zeroes that occur at the end of a row get discarded in the "text to columns" procedure. So, i eyeball every "long" row to insure that zeroes were not lost and manually re-enter any that were. Here is a small bit of sample data: SDQ EA 92 1551 378 1601 151 1603 157 1604 83 The "SDQ, EA, and 92" are irrelevant (artifacts of data transmission). i want to use Excel VBA to select 1551, 1601, 1603, and 1604 (these are store numbers) so that i can copy those values and transpose paste them vertically. i will then go back and copy 378, 151, 157, and 83 (sales values) so that i can transpose paste them next to the store numbers. The next two rows of data contain the same store numbers but give the corresponding dollar values. i will only need to copy the dollar values so they can be transpose pasted vertically next to unit values (e.g. 378, 151, 157, and 83). Just being able to put my cursor on the first cell of interest in the row and run a macro to copy every other cell would speed up my work tremendously. i have tried using activecell and offset references to select a range to copy but have not been successful. Does any have any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance for the help.

• Contacts Issue: Google Contacts, Nokia 5800 And Outlook, Sync and Images

  Hello everyone, this is a multi-question, so please, feel free to answer just one or all of them. My actual situation is: Google contacts sync with Nokia 5800 using MFE(google sync), using google's fake "exchange server". Outlook sync with google using GoContact Sync software (http://www.webgear.co.nz/Products/GOContactSync.aspx). What I want, a easy(or not) way to correctly sync the three of them, even if I have to change some of my "escenario". I know outlook<-google contacts sync is not good yet, but if someone can suggest me some better SW than GoContact Sync. It'll be good. What I really want is to sync a least name, phone, email and image. Then, is there a way to get all my google contacts to by default use their own google image? I noted that, usually i have to manually choose it, and sometimes it doesn't work. I'll like to use something or someone's service to do this automatically. I have tried some services like Soocial, but it gives me a lot of trouble after the first sync, because soccial can ONLY get ALL your contacts, not just "My Contacts"; and also it gives me like 100 bad contacts in outlook because of their beta client. The final goal of all of this is to Get only "My Contacts" from google in Outlook and in the 5800 with their images Get ALL my contacts with their default image, meaning, the contact's personal image Get a solution to correctly sync the three of them, using Google's as the base for the rest of them. • Outlook 2007 OST File Indexing and OneNote 2007 Indexing are Broken

  I'm running Outlook 2007 under Windows 7 Home Premium RTM. My OST file was previously being properly indexed but eventually searches significantly slowed down so I suspected a problem. Searching and indexing appears broken in OneNote 2007 as well as search time is now significantly longer. I brought up the Outlook 2007 Search Options dialog and noticed that my mailbox (running from an Exchange 2007 server) wasn't listed in the "Index messages in these data files:" list box. Next I ran the Windows "Find and fix problem with windows search" wizard which reported no errors. Then I brought up the Windows Indexing Options dialog which shows Outlook listed (as shown here): then clicked Advanced and Rebuilt the index. No dice - the listbox in the Outlook 2007 dialog still didn't show my mailbox. When I clicked the Modify button in the Indexing Options dialog I see the following: When I hover over the "oneindex://..." entry, the alt text indicates "This location is currently unavailable". When I delete it and rebuild the index, this entry returns. UPDATE: Comparison of the last screenshot above with a working PC shows that on the broken PC, the lower half of the dialog lists Outlook but neither Outlook or OneNote are showing in the upper half. The working PC has Outlook and OneNote in both parts of the dialog.

• Outlook slow to open attachments

  When a colleague tries to open attachments in her email (Outlook 2003 talking to an Exchange 2007 server) they talk ages to open. The files are relatively small, all less than 1MB. We've tried creating a new Windows profile for the user and tried creating new Outlook profiles, however that hasn't made any difference. And we've tried accessing her account from someone else's PC, and the attachments open immediately there. The only thing that might provide a clue is that Process Monitor shows Outlook on her PC trying to write the file to a folder within the user's "Temporary Internet Files" folder with FAST I/O DISALLOWED errors. Can't find a lot of useful information on that message online though. What causes the FAST I/O DISALLOWED errors? And would that make opening attachments so incredibly slow that opening a < 1MB file can take a matter of minutes? UPDATE: Discovered that this isn't just an issue with Outlook. Other files being accessed over the network show the same FAST I/O DISALLOWED errors in Process Monitor. The problem is just more noticeable with Outlook, because although other applications take a while to open files it isn't a matter of minutes.

• How to fix a Postfix/MySQL/Dovecot Unknown Host Issue?

  I am having an issue with one of my Postfix/Dovecot mail servers and I'm unsure how to fix the problem. I will try to explain it in detail, here it goes: I have an Ubuntu server setup using Virtual hosting with Postfix, Dovecot and MySQL. We have one domain setup as a virtual domain, for this example I am going to use mail.example.com. Under that domain we have one email address. I have another server (MS Exchange) setup using another one of my sub-domains, ex.example.com. The problem is that when I SMTP into the account on mail.example.com and try to send an email to an account on ex.example.com, I get the email returned back to us with an "unknown host" error. Now, I know that the mail.example.com server can resolve the ex.example.com domain because I can ping/dig while SSH'd into it. I can also log into Postfix via Telnet and send an email to an ex.example.com mailbox. I'm guessing that it has something to do with Postfix/Dovecot looking locally for the domain in the virtual domain list because of the tld domain (example.com)? If that's the case, how do I get Postfix/Dovecot to only look locally for the entire URL (mail.example.com) and if it doesn't find it, send it to the correct server by looking up the MX/A records (which I know exist and are setup correctly)? I have been working on this all day and any guidance would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks for your time!

I can SSH to other machines on the network without any problems, and other machines can SSH to the problematic one as well.   I'm having some trouble with forwarding DHCP from a subnet behind an access list on a Cisco Catalyst 4500 switch. I'm hoping somebody can see the mistake I'm making. The subnet is defined like this: (first three octets of IP addresses and vrf name anonymized) interface Vlan40 ip vrf forwarding vrf_name ip address 10.10.10.126 255.255.255.0 secondary ip address 10.10.10.254 255.255.255.0 ip access-group 100 out ip helper-address 10.10.20.36 no ip redirects I tried turning on a VMWare machine on this subnet that was configured to use DHCP, but I never got a DHCP response and the DHCP server didn't receive a request. I tried putting the following in the access-list: access-list 100 permit udp host 10.10.10.254 host 10.10.20.36 eq bootps access-list 100 permit udp host 10.10.10.254 host 10.10.20.36 eq bootpc access-list 100 permit udp host 10.10.20.36 host 10.10.10.254 eq bootps access-list 100 permit udp host 10.10.20.36 host 10.10.10.254 eq bootpc That didn't help. Can anybody see what the problem is? I know that the DHCP server works; our whole network is running off of this DHCP server I also know that the subnet works because we have active servers running on the network The DHCP scope is already defined on the DHCP server The subnet is correctly defined on the VMWare server (already servers running on the subnet on VMWare) Edit 2012-10-19: This is solved! The subnet had formerly been defined as a /25 network, but was then expanded into a /24 network. When the DHCP scope was altered after this change it was done incorrectly; the gateway was moved to .254, the leasable IP range was in the lower half of the /24 subnet but we forgot to change the CIDR prefix from /25 into /24. This happened some 2 years ago, and we didn't need to use DHCP on this server network again until this week. Thank you MDMarra and Jason Seemann for looking at the question and trying to troubleshoot. Now I'm wondering if I should mark Jason's answer as the accepted answer (I am new to the Stack Exchange network, so I don't know the etiquette of what to do if I misstated the question like in this case).

• hdparm - how to secure erase SATA SSD over USB

  I have been following this guide on how to secure erase an SSD (trying to improve the performance of mine, which currently only writes at about 30mb/s seq). However, I'm using an USB--Sata docking device to avoid having the harddrive frozen. Apparently using this solution the SATA device is recognized as a SCSI drive, which is giving me trouble. I use the "hdparm -I /dev/sda" command with those parameters, and I get the error; HDIO_DRIVE_CMD (identify) failed: Invalid Exchange After a lot of googling on the issue I can't seem to find anyone who has actually solved this problem. However, I have not tried to just go ahead and use the secure erase. So I'm not sure if this would actually still work. I would love any and all input I can get on this, especially on whether it will still work to do a secure erase with the drive being recognized as a SCSI drive. The drive itself is a Samsung 256gb SSD (pm800), I'm sure you can understand my reluctance to go through this procedure without feeling reasonably safe that I won't mess it up beyond repair.

  Should be another easy one here, but I need clarification on what they define as "heavy utilization" for Reserved Instance types. From their Website: Heavy Utilization RIs – Heavy Utilization RIs offer the most absolute savings of any Reserved Instance type. They’re most appropriate for steady-state workloads where you’re willing to commit to always running these instances in exchange for our lowest hourly usage fee. With this RI, you pay a little higher upfront payment than Medium Utilization RIs, a significantly lower hourly usage fee, and you’re charged that lower hourly rate for every hour in the Reserved Instance term you purchase. Using Heavy Utilization RIs, you can save up to 41% for a 1-year term and 58% for a 3-year term vs. running On-Demand Instances. If you’re trying to find a break-even utilization, you’re economically advantaged using Heavy Utilization RIs (vs. On-Demand Instances) if you plan to use your instance more than 43% of a 1-year term or 79% of a 3-year term. I'm assuming that, if I'm planning on running a 24/7 Web Server, then regardless of how many resources I consume (bandwidth, cpu cycles, memory), I would want to go with a Heavy Utilization Reserved Instance? This one Web Server in particular will likely barely budge the cpu, but it needs to be up and running 24/7. Not 100% on what they're defining as "heavy".

• Changing IP address in IIS for SharePoint site results in Directory listing error

  I have a server here that has 2 roles. One is Exchange 2007 and the other is MOSS 2007. In IIS i have a site, go.domain.com which has our OWA. The other is internal.domain.com which is the MOSS site. I have given the NIC local IPs and each site is using host headers. The GO site has an SSL cert from NetSol, and the MOSS site has a self signed. Right now going to either shows the NetSol site, which browsers complain about when going to the internal.domain.com site, obviously, since they are on the same IP in IIS. Both sites have always run off the original IP of 10.0.0.3 in IIS. When i added the second IP to the NIC, (10.0.0.6) and changed the Sharepoint site in IIS to use this for http and https access, I now get this message in a browser when trying to connect. Directory Listing Denied This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. Changing the IP back to 10.0.0.3 and the internal site is back up. What am I missing here? Do i need to fool around with Alternate Access Mappings in Central Admin? Am i completely missing the point with multiple SSL certs and host headers?

  I briefly browsed the AWS forums but these are not nearly as easy to use and efficient as Stack Exchange derived ones, so here I am... the company I work for has an app on the AWS cloud. In general the app works well. However, since it is new, we haven't had many customers and the ones who signed up are now coming to the point where their subscriptions to our service should be renewed. In comes my question. When I query the database for payment status of certain subscriptions using the console, I get what I would expect: Instrument XYZ is on a Monthly subscription (subscription=xxxyyyzz). The subscription is active with an expiration date of 19 Apr 2010 10:43 Z The payment token will expire on 1 Dec 2012 12:00 Z There are xy runs remaining. The subscription fee of $XX.xx will be charged on 17 Apr 2010 10:43 Z OK, this is great. According to this, I would expect the next payment to be initiated on 17 Apr. The reason I am asking is because for a different user last month I got this same output but the payment never went through, i.e., was not initiated through Amazon payments. The user didn't see the payment go through and neither did we. It should be noted that the initial payments were received. The sign up process works and if the user goes to "pay" from within our app, they will be directed to https://payments.amazon.com to make their payment. Any ideas?

• Easiest way to send encrypted email?

  To comply with Massachusetts's new personal information protection law, my company needs to (among other things) ensure that anytime personal information is sent via email, it's encrypted. What is the easiest way to do this? Basically, I'm looking for something that will require the least amount of effort on the part of the recipient. If at all possible, I really want to avoid them having to download a program or go through any steps to generate a key pair, etc. So command-line GPG-type stuff is not an option. We use Exchange Server and Outlook 2007 as our email system. Is there a program that we can use to easily encrypt an email and then fax or call the recipient with a key? (Or maybe our email can include a link to our website containing our public key, that the recipient can download to decrypt the mail?) We won't have to send many of these encrypted emails, but the people who will be sending them will not be particularly technical, so I want it to be as easy as possible. Any recs for good programs would be great. Thanks.

  We have some unix boxes setup in a way that to get to the development box via ssh, you have to ssh into a 'user@jumpoff' box first. There is no direct connection allowed on 'dev' via ssh from anywhere but 'jumpoff'. Furthermore, only key exchange is allowed on both servers. And you always login to the development box as 'build@dev'. It's painful to always do that hopping. I know this can be done with SOCKS or a Tunnel or something... I have setup a FreeBSD VM and I can get things to work awesome using unix ssh tools. Basically all I do is make sure my vm's ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub key is on both jumpoff and dev and use this ~/.ssh/config file: # Development Server Host ext-dev # this must be a resolvable name for "dev" from Jumpoff Hostname 1.2.3.4 User build IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa # The Jumpoff Server Host ext Hostname 1.1.1.1 User daevid Port 22 IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa # This must come below all of the above Host ext-* ProxyCommand ssh ext nc $(echo '%h'|cut -d- -f2-) 22 Then I just simply type "ssh ext-dev" and I'm in like Flynn. The problem is I can't get this same thing to work using either PuTTY or SecureCRT -- and to be honest I've not found any tutorials that really walk me through it. I see many on setting up some kind of proxy tunnel for Firefox, but it doesn't seem to be the same concept. I've been messing with various trial and error most all day and nothing has worked (obviously) and I'm at the end of my ssh knowledge and Google searching. I found this link which seemed to be perfect, but it doesn't work for me. The "Master" connects fine, but the "client" portion doesn't connect. It tells me, the remote system refused the connection. http://www.vandyke.com/support/tips/socksproxy.html I've got the VM, PuTTY and SecureCRT all using the same public/private key pairs to make things consistent and easier to debug. Does anyone have a straight up example of how to do this in Windows?

• Kerberos service on win2k dc will not start following disk failure

  Hi, I have a win2k (mixed mode domain) with 4 DCS. One of these also acts an exchange 2000 server which uses 2 logical volumes from an MSA 2000 array. AD etc is stored on local drives. We experienced a problem last week when the raid array fell back to a redundant controller and this temporarily meant that the two logical drives were not visible to the server for around 5 minutes and a couple of reboots. The log records these Events as Type: Warning Event Source: Disk Event Category: None Event ID: 51 Date: 06/11/2009 Time: 11:46:23 User: N/A Computer: server1 Description: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 during a paging operation. Following these problems, the server “kerberos Key Distribution” service refuses to start with an “error.31 a device attached to the system is not functioning”. All other automatic start services (including net logon) are running and there are no DNS issues etc. All devices are also functioning but the two logical MSA disks are now numbered in the Windows Disk Management MMC as 2 and 4 and I suspect that they may have previously been identified as disks 1 & 2 and perhaps windows still sees this as an ongoing failure?? Replication has not been affected but obviously there are many audit failures in the security log relating to users and workstations presumably linked to the Kerberos issue. Attempting to manually start the kerberos service generates the following in the System Log. Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7023 Date: 09/11/2009 Time: 09:46:55 User: N/A Computer: Server1 Description: The Kerberos Key Distribution Center service terminated with the following error: A device attached to the system is not functioning. DCDIAG passes all tests except “Advertising” and “Services” which I believe relate directly to the failure of Kerberos only. Any advice would be appreciated.
