    While attempting to do an installation repair of SQL-2008R2, I'm failing the pre-check rules. Module that is failing is AclPermissionsFacet - with this message "The SQL Server registry keys from a prior installation cannot be modified. To continue, see SQL Server Setup documentation about how to fix registry keys." When I look at these keys in the registry, all of their permissions are blank. My problem is that I cannot find any good information on how to reset these keys. This is on my new home dev and I think during the migration from my previous machine, these settings got corrupted on my new box. In reviewing the web, there doesn't seem to be good infomration. And what there is suggests using subinacl.exe. But after trying it and seeing it is an XP based program, I'm at a loss on how to continue.   • How do I host node.js apps with pm2 without running them as root?

    I have setup pm2 to run a node.js application, and I can successfully start it and it will resurrect upon reboot. However, the pm2 daemon is ran as root, which makes me think that all my node-scripts also runs as root? Even though I added them as a regular user in the system.     This is quite a mistery for me. I usually use passwordless RSA authentication to login into my remote *nix servers with ssh and sftp. Never had any problem until now.   • Coldfusion on VPS, how much JVM heap memory?

    Recently I got a VPS server and I'm running Coldfusion, the website was running fine until it got more and more traffic and I started to encounter 'OutOfMemory' exceptions. I thought simply to rise the memory of the VPS server, but this didn't help. After doing some Google searches I found a setting in de CF Admin settings to set the JVM Heap memory. It was on the standard: Max Heap size 512MB and Min Heap size was empty. After playing around a bit I have now set it to Min 50MB and Max 200MB, good things is that I'm not getting the 'OutOfMemory' exceptions anymore. So far so good! But with about 50 active visitors on the website, the website starts to get slow. The CPU usage is only about 8% (Windows Taskmanager), also the taskmanager show only about 30% of the 3GB RAM in use. So I'm thinking that my values could be tweaked to use more of the RAM. Honestly I don't understand these JVM Memory heap settings, so I have no clue what is a good setting for me.     I'm trying to perform what I understand to be a relatively simple task. I'd like to remove the extensions from the URLs on my website. I have the proper set up in my application to handle and rewrite the URLs - the trouble is I can't get past IIS to actually get to my application without the extensions. The details: I'm running IIS6 on Windows Server 2003. I've gone into the web site for my application, gone to the home directory tab, clicked "Configuration" and added a wildcard map to the following file: c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll Which I verified is the same as what is used above in the application extensions portion by .ascx, etc. If I navigate to http://mywebsite.com/Blogs the result is as follows: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found Content-Length: 1635 Content-Type: text/html Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Date: Thu, 14 Jan 2010 15:04:49 GMT Which seems to be a standard IIS 404 message. If I navigate to http://mywebsite.com/Blogs.aspx I get my ASP.NET app.... How can I troubleshoot this? I feel like I've double checked everything a dozen times but to no avail. I must be missing something obvious. Update: Here are the exact instructions given by the asp.net url rewriter that I'm using: IIS 6.0 - Windows 2003 Server open property page for website / virtual directory. click the 'home directory' tab click the 'configuration' button, select the 'mappings' tab click 'insert' next to the 'Wildcard application maps' section browse to the aspnet_isapi.dll (normally at c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll) Ensure that 'check that file exists' is unchecked Click OK, OK, OK to close and apply changes Update 2: I have yet to find a resolution for this.   • Getting SMB file shares working over a PPTP VPN

    I'm having issues getting SMB file shares working over a PPTP VPN. The server setup consists of a security device (DrayTek V3300) which passes the PPTP authentication to a SBS2003 server running RRAS. The server is the DC and provides DNS and WINS, the single NIC's name server is set to the NIC's IP (192.168...), and DHCP on the DrayTek sets the server IP as the DNS. If I create a new VPN connection in Win7, leaving everything as default apart from the server, username, password and domain, I can: ping everything by IP address resolve IPs with nslookup using their fully-qualified name, as in nslookup fileserver.mydomain.local ping machines by fully-qualified name, as in ping fileserver.mydomain.local However if I try to access a file share: within Explorer, I get "Windows cannot access ..." with "Error code: 0x80004005 Unspecified Error", using net use z: \\fileserver.mydomain.local\share, I get "System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found." If I add the machine name to my HOSTS file I can use the file share, which is my last-ditch workaround, but I have a number of VPN users and would rather a solution that doesn't involve me trying to hand-edit system files on computers half a country away. If I set the WINS server explicitly in the connection's IPv4 settings I don't have to use the FQN to ping the machine, but that doesn't change anything else. EDIT: The PC I'm having the issue on is running Win 7 Home Premium. After more testing I actually have two other PCs that work, one W7HP, one XP Home, and another Vista PC that doesn't work (not tested as much as the others), all four on the same internet connection (behind the same router). All of them were tested with a straight-forward, all defaults, new VPN configuration.

  • Iomega eGo Encrypt Plus Encrypted Partition not mounting properly says "local disk"

    I'm working with an Iomega eGo 500gb Encrypt Plus portable drive. When I first set it up and installed the software and set a user password everything worked fine. The partition labeled "IomegaHDD" mounted properly and I could access the free space. Then I changed the ADMIN password which required me to lockout the device, wait 60 seconds, and then login to the Admin section and change the password, lockout the device again, wait 60 seconds, and then log back in with my user password. When I did that it of course unmounted the IomegaHDD partition to secure it, when it remounts it, it only shows up as "local disk" now and will not remount properly. I had not removed the cable while doing any of this. I have since tried unplugging and plugging back in to login to the drove but that has not worked. I'm wondering if I should remove every instance of "generic usb hub" from device manager and wait for it to re-add itself, or move it to a new set of USB ports temporarily to seee if that helps. Any ideas?

    I'm trying to setup some samba shares in my home network on an Ubuntu 12.04 machine. Everything works fine for my user account (max) but I can not add any new user. Every time I try to add new user they can not use the shares. It's likely that the error is very basic to the concept of samba but please don't just tell me to read the docs. I've been trying that for about 2 weeks now. I've set up the server with my user max who can mount transfer and the share max. Than I added the user simon with sudo adduser --no-create-home --disabled-login --shell /bin/false simon because the user should not be able to ssh into the machine. I did an sudo smbpasswd -a simon and set an (samba) password for simon and added an share for simon. I also added simon to transferusers to give him access to the share transfer.   • Gitlab and Nginx not loading gitlab

    I have just installed gitlab and nginx on Ubuntu LTS 12.04 using this guide: http://blog.compunet.co.za/gitlab-installation-on-ubuntu-server-12-04/ I installed this on another server last night and had absolutely no problems with it (sort of a test run to see how long it would take to get going). I am not getting any errors when restarting gitlab or nginx with /etc/init.d and my error logs are empty.
