• WPF image cropping

  I'm loading layers of images to make a single image. I'm currently stacking them all onto a canvas. I've got it set up so the user can specify the final dimensions of the single image, but even when I change the size of the canvas the images retain their original sizes. I tried to modify the image size as I was loading them in, but the sizes were NaN and the Actual Sizes were 0 so I couldn't change them there. I'm starting to think that canvas might not be the way to go. • Keeping track of leading zeros with BitSet in Java

  So, according to this question there are two ways to look at the size of a BitSet. size(), which is legacy and not really useful. I agree with this. The size is 64 after doing: BitSet b = new BitSet(8); length(), which returns the index of the highest set bit. In the above example, length() will return 0. This is somewhat useful, but doesn't accurately reflect the number of bits the BitSet is supposed to be representing in the event you have leading zeros. The information I'm dealing with rarely(if ever) falls evenly into 8-bit bytes, and the leading 0s are just as important to me as the 1s. I have some data fields that are 333 bits long, some that are 20, etc. Is there a better way to deal with bit-level details in Java that will keep track of leading zeros? Otherwise, I'm going to have to 'roll my own', so to speak. To which I have a few ideas already, but I'd prefer not to reinvent the wheel if possible.

• In WPF, accessing containers within ListBox

  I'm creating a DerivedListBox : ListBox and a DerivedHeaderedContentControl : HeaderedContentControl, which will serve as a container for each item in the ListBox. In order to calculate the size available for the expanded content of the DerivedHeaderedContentControls, I am storing each container object in a list within the DerivedListBox. This way I can calculate the height of the headers of each DerivedHeaderedContentControl and subtract that from the total size available to the DerivedListBox. • sorl-thumbnail unit tests fail by 1 pixel (!)

  Hi I'm using sorl-thumbnail in a Django 1.2 (currently 1.2 RC) project and getting a surprising failure of four of sorl's built-in unit tests. Essentially, the resized images are all 1px shorter than the unit tests expect them to be. See below for details I'm developing on OSX 10.5.8 (not Snow Leopard) with Python 2.5.1 (r251:54863, Feb 6 2009, 19:02:12) and PIL 1.1.6. Any thoughts what might be up? • Why is an Add method required for { } initialization?

  To use initialization syntax like this: var contacts = new ContactList { { "Dan", "[email protected]" }, { "Eric", "[email protected]" } }; ...my understanding is that my ContactList type would need to define an Add method that takes two string parameters: public void Add(string name, string email); What's a bit confusing to me about this is that the { } initializer syntax seems most useful when creating read-only or fixed-size collections. After all it is meant to mimic the initialization syntax for an array, right? (OK, so arrays are not read-only; but they are fixed size.) And naturally it can only be used when the collection's contents are known (at least the number of elements) at compile-time. So it would almost seem that the main requirement for using this collection initializer syntax (having an Add method and therefore a mutable collection) is at odds with the typical case in which it would be most useful. I'm sure I haven't put as much thought into this matter as the C# design team; it just seems that there could have been different rules for this syntax that would have meshed better with its typical usage scenarios. Am I way off base here? Is the desire to use the { } syntax to initialize fixed-size collections not as common as I think? What other factors might have influenced the formulation of the requirements for this syntax that I'm simply not thinking of?

• Map element position in data file to class property

  I need to read/write files, following a format provided by a third party specification. The specification itself is pretty simple: it says the position and the size of the data that will be saved in the file. For example: Position Size Description -------------------------------------------------- 0001 10 Device serial number 0011 02 Hour 0013 02 Minute 0015 02 Second 0017 02 Day 0019 02 Month 0021 02 Year The list is very long, it has about 400 elements. But lots of them can be combined. For example, hour, minute, second, day, month and year can be combined in a single DateTime object. I've splitted the elements into about 4 categories, and created separeted classes for holding the data. So, instead of a big structure representing the data, I have some smaller classes. I've also created different classes for reading and writing the data. The problem is: how to map the positions in the file to the objects properties, so that I don't need to repeat the values in the reading/writing class? I could use some custom attributes and retrieve them via reflection. But since the code will be running on devices with small memory and processor, it would be nice to find another way.   Hello, We are getting a "could not execute native bulk manipulation query" error in HQL When we execute a query which is something like this. We are using bind parameters to bind each sublist. However we still get error "could not execute native bulk manipulation query" How does one avoid the problem of limited parameters possible in IN query when parameters passed are more than 1000? regards Sameer

  Many VMS, JVM/LLVM/... have JITs -- as the code is being interpreted, x86 instructions are created on the fly and executed. If there something similar to this for FPGAS? Any suggestions? Also, I used addClass & removeClass twice in the jquery code. Is there a way to only use it once? I could just ditch the setter and access the frontLeft variable directly, but I was under the impression I should use setters and getters as much as possible and logically it seems like the setFrontLeft method should work. This brings up an additional question that my coworkers keep asking in these regards (we are all new to Objective-C); why use a setter and getter at all if you are in the same class as those setters and getters.

• Using java2d user space measurements with TextLayout and LineBreakMeasurer

  I have a java2d image defined in user space (mm) to print an identity card. The transformation to pixels is by using an AffineTransform for the required DPI (Screen or print). The font size is calculated as best vertical fit for the number of lines in an area with the calculation as below. E.g. attr.put(TextAttribute.SIZE, (geTextArea().getHeight() / noOfLines - LINE_SPACING) ); When using g2d.drawString("Some text to display", x, y); the font size appears correct. Does anyone have a better way of doing text layout in user space co-ords?

• Firefox 3.6 and CSS difference from previous versions of Firefox 3.5 and back?

  So, in upgrading to Firefox 3.6, the CSS broke on input boxes. The padding has increased -- it might also be the font-size is somehow behaving different. Wondering if anyone else has seen this problem yet. Can't quite figure it out. BUT webkit seems to have its own problems with this now, since it wants to center the text vertically (ignoring any evidence of line-height) according to the height of everything. In other words, if you want the text vertically closer to the top, I haven't been able to figure out a way to do that. Ideas?

• How to delete duplicate vectors within a multidimensional vector?

  I have a vector of vectors: vector< vector<int> > BigVec; It contains an arbitrary number of vectors, each of an arbitrary size. I want to delete not duplicate elements of each vector, but any vectors that are the exact same as another. I don't need to preserve the order of the vectors so I can sort etc.. It should be a really simple problem to solve but I'm new to this, my (not-working) best effort: for (int i = 0; i < BigVec.size(); i++) { for (int j = 1; j < BigVec.size() ; j++ ) { if (BigVec[i][0] == BigVec [j][i]); { BigVec.erase(BigVec.begin() + j); i = 0; // because i get the impression deleting a j = 1; // vector messes up a simple iteration through } } } I think there might be a solution using Unique(), but I can't get that to work either.

I came up with brute force naive algorithm, but it seems there should be better approach. • Footer positioning with CSS and 960gs

  I'm new to doing layouts with CSS (I haven't done any web design for a long long time) and I can't seem to figure out how to get the footer of the page to display at the bottom the way I want. Requirements: -Display at bottom of content if content exceeds vertical size of viewport -Display at bottom of viewport if viewport exceeds vertical size of content. The code that I am using sets the footer at the bottom of the viewport, but if I size the browser to be shorter than the content, it just covers the content. Code: <div style="background-image:url(footer_bg.jpg); background-position:bottom; background-repeat:repeat-x; height:235px; width:100%; bottom:0px; position:absolute;"></div> My main goal is to have a footer with text (ie. company info, contact info) and a background gradient. I'd like the footer background to span the width of the page, but I don't know if I can do that with the 960 gs divs.

• Deadlock in ThreadPoolExecutor

  Encountered a situation when ThreadPoolExecutor is parked in execute(Runnable) function while all the ThreadPool threads are waiting in getTask func, workQueue is empty. Does anybody have any ideas? The ThreadPoolExecutor is created with ArrayBlockingQueue, corePoolSize == maximumPoolSize = 4 [Edit] To be more precise, the thread is blocked in ThreadPoolExecutor.exec(Runnable command) func. It has the task to execute, but doesn't do it. [Edit2] The executor is blocked somewhere inside the working queue (ArrayBlockingQueue).
