• Exclude some parameters with POST request on RestKit

  I've just integrated RestKit with a Mac application for communicating with a web service. After much confusion, I have successfully got requests and responses working using it. The problem I am now finding is that when I want to make a POST request. I have created a RKRequestDescriptor with a mapping for a whole number of properties and all of the properties are being sent as parameters for the query. I want a way of dynamically changing the parameters that are sent, for example not sending some parameters where the property is nil. Is this possible as part of the built-in functionality of RestKit? And if so, how?

  I find that I write a lot of code within my classes to keep properties in sync with each other. I've read about Events in Classes, but have not been able to wrap my head around how to make them work for what I'm looking for. I could use some advice here. For example, in this one I always want to keep myColor up to date with any change whatsoever in any or all of the Red, Green or Blue properties.   I need to have different settings for my unit tests and different settings for my integration tests. Example For unit tests, I would like to do WebMock.disable_net_connect!(:allow_localhost => true) And for integration tests, I would like to do WebMock.allow_net_connect! Also, before the start of an integration test, I would like to make sure that solr is started. Hence I want to be able to call config.before(:suite) do SunspotStarter.start end BUT, only for integration tests. I do not want to start my solr if its a unit test. How do I keep their configurations separate? Right now, I have solved this by keeping my integration tests in a folder outside the spec folder, which has its own spec_helper. Is there any better way?

• HQL multiple updates. Is there a better way?

  I have a Map, that I want to persist. The domain object is something like this: public class Settings { private String key; private String value; public String getKey() { ... } public String getValue() { ... } public void setKey() { ... } public void setValue() { ... } } The standard approach is to generate a Setting for each pair, and saveOrUpdate() it. But it generates way too much queries, because I need to save lots of settings at a time, and it really affects perfomance. Is there a way to do this using one update query?

• Visual Studio 2005 Ignores Preprocessor directives during compile

  We just got a new developer and I'm trying to set him up with Dev Studio 2005 (The version we all use at this office), and we're running into a weird problem that I've never seen before. I have some code that works perfectly on my system, and he can't seem to get it compiled. We've tracked the issue down to his copy of dev studio ignoring the preprocessor directives. For example, in the project properties under C/C++|Preprocessor|Preprocessor Directives, I add DEFINE_ME. Which should translate to a /D"DEFINE_ME" for the compiler. And it does in my development environment, but it doesn't on his. I verified that when he checks out the code from the source repository, that he has the same version of the code I do. And if I look in his Project Properties, all of the directives are there. For some reason they're just not getting passed down to the compiler. Any Ideas?

• Is it good practice to put private API in the .m files and public API in .h files in Cocoa?

  Many of my classes in my current project have several properties and methods that are only ever called from within the class itself. Also, they might mess with the working of the class depending on the current state of the class. Currently, all these interfaces are defined in the main interface declaration in the .h files. Is it considered good practice to put the “private” methods and properties at the top of the .m files? This won't ever affect anything since I am very likely the only person ever to look at this source code, but of course it would be interesting to know for future projects.

  Hey, I would like to import the Flex class ResultEvent in Flash. This is how I did it: 1. In "Publish Settings/Flash/ActionScrip 3.0 Settings/Library Path" I selected the rpc.swf (from the flex sdk) 2. Then I wrote in my flash-file: import mx.rpc.ResultEvent; But i still get the following error: 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: ResultEvent. • Is adding a bit mask to all tables in a database useful?

  A colleague is adding a bit mask to all our database tables. In theory this is so we can track certain properties of each row across the entire system. For example... Is the row shipped with the system or added by the client once they've started using the system Has the row been deleted from the table (soft deletes) Is the row a default value within a set of rows Is this a good idea? Are there other uses where this approach would be beneficial? My preference is these properties are obviously important, and having a dedicated column for each property is justified to make what is happening clearer to fellow developers.

  Hi, I've looked everywhere and while there is solutions to change the uploads directory for all the blogs by changing this line in the wp-settings.php: define( "BLOGUPLOADDIR", WP_CONTENT_DIR . "/blogs.dir/{$wpdb->blogid}/files/" ); I can't find a way of changing the directory for each blog individually, something like: define( "BLOGUPLOADDIR", WP_CONTENT_DIR . "/blogs.dir/{$blog_name}/files/" ); But I have no idea how could I get the name of the blog from within the wp-settings.php as you can't use get_bloginfo('name'); outside of the template. Anybody with a solution for this?

  I receive error messages when attempting to encode files in Expression Encoder when the file width or height is not a multiple of four, or is smaller than 64. I have been able to find very little in the documentation / web searches on this, and nothing that explains what settings may cause / alleviate these limitations. I assume it has something to do with the underlying data type. Error Message: Invalid Width Specified. The value must be an integer between 64 - and 4096 and be a multiple of 4. Can anyone provide further details on why / what settings can be manipulated to change this behavior: I.E. quality, compression etc.

  at the moment I try to reduce the load on my database extremly, so I had a look in my website and think about - what database calls can I try to avoid. So is there a rule for that? Sould I save every information in a Session that is nearly never changed? e.g.: The User-Table is a 35-coloumn-table which I need so often in so different ways, that in the moment I got this user-object at nearly every PageLoad AND in the master-site-page-load (Settings, display the username for a welcome message, colors etc etc.). So is that good to avoid the database query here, save the User-Object in a Session and call it from the session - and of course destroy the session whereever the User-Object get changed (e.g. User change his settings)?

Firstly it's not updating the entries in doxygen.config, perhaps one needs to put the settings in the exact hierarchy as it appears in the native doxygen file (?). • How to use Git properly with XCode?

  I have been an iphone developer for a while, and I have recently been including git in my workflow. I have used git settings found on http://shanesbrain.net/2008/7/9/using-xcode-with-git for my workflow so far. Those settings tell git to exclude *.pbxproj from merges? Is there a real reason for doing this? For example, when I add a file to the project and push to origin, my fellow developers will not have that file added to their xcode project when they pull. Then if one of them builds a release this file may not be included. Shouldn't I just let git handle the merges for the project file? Could someone please explain why or why not this file should be in merges and how to properly handle the situation when files are added to the project. Thanks.
