• Simplest way to create a wrapper class around some strings for a WPF DataGrid?

  I'm building a simple hex editor in C#, and I've decided to use each cell in a DataGrid to display a byte*. I know that DataGrid will take a list and display each object in the list as a row, and each of that object's properties as columns. I want to display rows of 16 bytes each, which will require a wrapper with 16 string properties. While doable, it's not the most elegant solution. Is there an easier way? I've already tried creating a wrapper around a public string array of size 16, but that doesn't seem to work. Thanks *The rational for this is that I can have spaces between each byte without having to strip them all out when I want to save my edited file. Also it seems like it'll be easier to label the rows and columns.

• How can I move app.config to a different folder inside the Solution Explorer?

  I'm using Visual Studio 2010. In my Solution Explorer I like to sort my Project items into folders (a folder for Forms, a folder for Classes, a Misc folder, etc.) It seems though that if I move the "app.config" file to a folder named "Config Files" everything works until I change a setting in the Settings.settings file. Once I do that, a new app.config is created and the one that was in the "Config Files" folder did not get updated. I have searched the entire solution for the text "app.config" and did not find any results. How can I move this file so that my Solution Explorer looks nice and clean?

• RAD - Websphere Application server won't start

  I am having issues with RAD7. My server will not start for me today. I am working from home and connected to the VPN. Everything works except my server in RAD. It worked fine yesterday in work and had previously worked when I was at home but that was a few weeks ago. Are there any settings that I should look out for? I have disabled my proxy settings in RAD and turned off everything in my firewall. I can ping all the DBs that the server is connecting to. I have even removed all the projects from the server and it will still not start. It keeps trying and then times out after 300s. Any suggestions?

I just simply need to access one of array elements by calling propertyName=string[0]. Current version (1.8.3) does not support indexed properties. If you look into their code you will find in class PropertyUtilsBean in method getPropertyOfMapBean: if (resolver.isIndexed(propertyName) || resolver.isMapped(propertyName)) { throw new IllegalArgumentException( "Indexed or mapped properties are not supported on" + " objects of type Map: " + propertyName); } way too bad:-( Have any of you any tip how to do it somehow differently?

• Tracking changes to individual fields - Silverlight

  I have a page which has got several text boxes. These controls are bound to a model. I am using MVVM. Assume I have three text boxes, FirstName, LastName and Company. So in the model, I have three properties to bind. Now I need to track the changes happened to each field. If FirstName changes from original value, I need the text box to be colored with a different background color. Currently I am creating another property called FirstNameChanged and binding the background to this property. This will be updated when I change the FirstName. For 3 fields, this seems to be OK. But when I have more fields, the number of properties will be too much. Is there a better way to handle this?

  My application have a configuration xml-file. That file contains more than 50 program settings. At the present time I read and save each program setting separately. I guess It is not effi?iently for such tasks. I need something that can auto-generate a code for load and save my program settings using predefined xml-schema. I found a dataset in Add New Item dialog. Unfortunately, i cannot add new code to dataset1 such as events in set-accessors of properties because of this // Changes to this file may cause incorrect behavior and will be lost if // the code is regenerated. Maybe, there is a tool that allows a user to generate a wrapper for accesing a xml-file ? Such as DataSet1, but with availability to add events.

• Typed DataSet connection - required to have one in the .xsd file?

  In the .xsd file for a typed DataSet in .NET, there's a <Connections> section that contains a list of any data connections I've used to set up the DataTables and TableAdapters. There are times when I'd prefer not to have those there. For instance, sometimes I prefer to pass in a connection string to a custom constructor and use that rather than look for one in settings, .config, etc. But it seems like if I remove the connection strings from that section (leaving it empty), or remove the section entirely, the DataSet code-generation tool freaks out. Whereas if I don't remove them, the DataSet gripes when I put it in a different project because it can't find the settings for those connection strings. Is there any way I can tell a typed DataSet not to worry about any connections? (Obviously I'll have to give it a connection if I change any TableAdapter SQL or stored procs, but that should be my problem.)

  I cannot figure out how to pass (constant) arguments into my Windows service when it is started. I'm using the standard .NET classes like ServiceBase to implement (and ServiceProcessInstaller and ServiceInstaller to install) my service. On the general tab of a Windows Service properties dialog box (once installed), there's a "Path to executable" in which I can see that some of the standard Windows services have command line arguments specified. System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase.OnStart takes string[] args, which I presume would enable these arguments to be accessed from within .NET code. Are there some properties on ServiceProcessInstaller or ServiceInstaller that I can set to allow me to pass startup arguments to my own service, or does anyone know how it's supposed to be done?

• What's an elegant solution to get the property values from two classes (that have the same property

  Essentially I have to deal with a poorly implemented web service. They have two classes that don't derive from a parent class, but have the same properties (Ughh...). So it looks like this in my web service proxy class file: public partial class Product1 { public int Quantity; public int Price; } public partial class Product2 { public int Quantity; public int Price; } So what's the best way to grab the values from known properties without duplicating the code and casting to their respective classes? I know I probably could use reflection, but that can get ugly. If there is an easier less crazier way to do it (maybe in the new c# features?) please let me know.

  I have a project that I am breaking up into multiple .exe projects. I still plan on publishing them, using click once, into the same location at the same time, and I would like to use the same config file. I have added the app.config to each project using the "Add link" option in Visual Studio, which is great for debugging, but in production, when I compile each exe project, the app.config is not copied into the "master project"'s bin folder. example: master.exe with master.exe.config master.exe may launch order.exe based on user settings master.exe may launch returns.exe based on user settings master, order, and returns will all reside in the same folder, and should share a single config file.

  I have a class C in Assembly A like this: internal class C { internal static string About_Name { get { return "text"; } ... } I have about 20 such static properties. Is there a way, in an outside assembly, without using friend assembly attribute (.Net reflection only), get class C so I can invoke any of the static string properties like this: Class C = <some .Net reflection code>; string expected = C.About_Name; If that is not possible, a .Net reflection code to get the string property value directly will suffice, but not ideal.   Hello, I can't seem to find the "Build" option under "Configuration Properties" folder in the Property Pages of my project. I've been looking everywhere trying to figure out how to do it. I followed the direations here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc302121.aspx More specifically here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azt1z1eh.aspx ("To build the XML Documentation sample within Visual Studio" section) I want to generate XML comments for my project in the build, but my "Configuration Properties" window does not have "folders" or a "Build" option under it. I'm using Visual Studio Team System 2008, any ideas? EDIT - This is a website [project-less] and it is written in both C# and VB.NET. Do I need to download any tools? I found GhostDoc but that's not helping me very much.

• ASP.NET MVC Inheriting from ProfileBase

  I have 2 related issues. I inherited from ProfileBase and I have a couple of properites as such public SomeType PropertyName { get { return (SomeType)base["PropertyName"]; } set { base["PropertyName"] = value; Save(); } } I also have a User class (UserId, UserName, Profile, LastActivityDate) that has 2 additional properties out of the profile that I retrieve in my View to show a list of Users (i.e. @Model.Profile.PropertyName). However, everytime I access a property (from my View) it seems to update the LastActivityDate in the aspnet_Users table because when I show the LastActivityDate as well as the profile properties on my screen the LastActivtyDate is out of sync with the database. Also there is a LastActivityDate property available in my profile which unfortunately is not available and is in fact set to null and throws an exception when accessing it saying the property UserName is null. So the static Create method provided by ProfileBase seems to retrieve the correct profile properties but does not set the base's UserName property even though you pass in a UserName parameter to the Create method. Is this a internal bug? I was kind of hoping if by accessing the property because the LastActivityDate is updated then I could store that value to update my LastActivityDate in my User class before it is rendered to the page. The only way I can think of doing it is: public SomeType PropertyName { get { SomeType result = (SomeType)base["PropertyName"]; OnLastActivityDateChanged(); return result; } set { base["PropertyName"] = value; } } then in my User class: ... public MyProfile() { Profile.LastActivityDateChanged += Profile_LastActivityDateChanged(); } ~MyProfile() { Profile.LastActivityDateChanged -= Profile_LastActivityDateChanged(); } ... void Profile_LastActivityDateChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { //Run a query to get the latest LastActivityDate this.LastActivityDate = ... } It seems I have to make 1 call to retrieve the full list to my aspnet_Users table then another call for each row just to get the latest activity date. ARGGGGHHH!!! Am I going about this the wrong way! I put an ajax refresh hyperlink next to each User row and when I click it, immediately after loading the page, the value changes. Therefore my suspision is valid that calling a property via the inherited profilebase class updates the value. Is there a workaround? It is a bit miss leading when my page says User Smith has no activity for 4 days then I click my ajax refresh link (or refresh the whole page for that matter) and now it says Smith was active but it was just me meally showing the page that indirectly caused an activity read event.

• Replace text in XSL using wildcards

  This is similar to an earlier problem I was having which you guys solved in less than a day. I am working with XML files that are generated by a digital video camera. The camera allows the user to save all of the camera's settngs to an SD card so that the settings can be recalled or loaded into another camera. The XSL stylesheet I am writing will allow users to view the camera's settings, as saved to the SD card in a web browser. While most of the values in the XML file -- as formatted by my stylesheet -- make sense to humans, some do not. What I would like to do is have the stylesheet display text that is based on the value in the XML file but more easily understood by humans. A typical value that can be written to the XML file is "_23_970" which represents the camera's frame rate. This would be better displayed as 23.970 (or 023.970). The first underscore is a sort of place holder to make a space for values over 099.999. The second underscore, obviously represents the decimal. My previous (similar) question involved replacing predictable text, and the solution was matching templates. In this case, however, the camera can be set at any one of 119,999 frame rates (I think I did that math correctly). The approach, I would guess, is to pass a value to the displayed webpage that keeps the numeric values (each digit), replaces the second underscore with a decimal, and replaces the first underscore with either an nbsp or a zero (whichever is easier). If the first character in the string is a "1" (the camera can run at frame rates up to 120.000) then the one should be passed on to the page displayed by the stylesheet. I have read other posts here regarding wildcards, but couldn't find one that answered this question. EDIT: Sorry for leaving out important info. I fared better on my first try at asking a question! I guess I got complacent. Anyhow . . .   I'm building three web applications in .NET that will all share a users database and login information. Lets pretend that application 1 is the "parent" application and applications "A" and "B" are the "child" applications. All users have to be logged into application 1 to have access to applications A and B. Authorization, Authentication, and MachineKey sections of all web configs are present and work correctly. I have the correct web.config settings in all applications to achieve Single Sign On except one problem remains: what do I put in the "loginUrl" attribute of the forms tag in Applications A and B. Assume that the url for the login to application 1 is "www.johnsapp.com/login.aspx" How can I get applications A and B to send the user back to application 1 for authentication using only settings in web.config?

  I have a Book model in my Rails application, with various properties (aka columns in the book db table). One of these properties is "ranking". Recently, may app has started to throw NoMethodError: undefined method 'include?' for nil:NilClass for the following code: def some_method(book, another_arg) return book.ranking unless book.ranking.blank? ... end However, it's not consistent. The vast majority of the time, accessing book.ranking works -- the error is thrown maybe 2-4% of the time. If I change the code to book[:ranking] or book['ranking'] instead of book.ranking, it works 100% of the time. Any ideas?

  hi, I'm using Views for some nodes, and I want to display a different View title according to which taxonomy tags are selected in my filter. I already have taxonomy field for each node in my view. But this is not what I need. I basically need to display all the currently filtered tags on the top of my view. I was wondering if I can solve adding some line with php, how ? Thanks Update: I'm now using the Views Header field in Views settings, but it only processes html code, not php, so I cannot add taxonomy terms. Is it because of my CCK Editor settings ? thanks

  I installed VirtualBox with a Win XP VM on my Mac running OS 10.7.5. My Mac only has a wi-fi connection to the internet. On the settings for the virtual host, I set: Attached to: Bridged Adapter Name: en1: Wi-Fi (AirPort) Adapter Type: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM) Promiscuous Mode: Deny Mac Address: Cable Connected: true Those are the settings I see around the internet as being correct, but I still can't ping anything. On my Mac I have internet sharing via Ethernet enabled (not sure if that matters). When I start up my WinXP VM, it asks me to install a bunch of hardware which I don't have any drivers to. Do I need to install any ethernet card drivers in order for the internet to work? Thank you!!

  Here's the problem. Given a large/intricate datatemplate A, which has 3 sections - General, Properties, Misc. Imagine 3 grids for each. Now I need to reuse the Properties section of the above Datatemplate in another place. Reasons: To avoid redundancy + ensure that further updates to the datatemplate are applied identically to all usages. So I guess what I am asking for is an ability to slot in a link to a child DataTemplate in a parent Datatemplate. What's the best way to go about this ?
