  • debian lenny xen bridge networking problem

DomU isn't talking to the world, but it talks to Dom0. Here are the tests that I made: Dom0 (external networking is working): ping 188.40.96.238 #Which is Domu's ip PING 188.40.96.238 (188.40.96.238) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 188.40.96.238: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.092 ms DomU: ping 188.40.96.215 #Which is Dom0's ip PING 188.40.96.215 (188.40.96.215) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 188.40.96.215: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.045 ms ping 188.40.96.193 #Which is the gateway - fail PING 188.40.96.193 (188.40.96.193) 56(84) bytes of data. ^C --- 188.40.96.193 ping statistics --- 2 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 1013ms The system is debian lenny with a normal setup. • Why can blocked IPs get through my iptables? What's wrong with this configuration?

    - by NeedSomeHelp
(Why can/How are) blocked IPs (get/getting) through my iptables? Hello and thanks for your consideration... I have configured iptables and included (below) output from the command "iptables --line-numbers -n -L" yet IP addresses (like 31.41.219.180) from IP blocks I have already blocked are getting through. Please take a look and share any input you may have. Thank you. P.S. The initial ACCEPT IP addresses are for CloudFlare. . • Bad motherboard / controller / HDs?

    - by quidpro
    On a leased server, I am running into some timing issues with an application that requires precise timing. Server is a Dual Xeon E5410 running on a Supermicro X7DVL-3 motherboard under CentOs 5.5 x64. The application I am running is timer sensitive and keeps sensing drift whether under load or at idle, but especially under load. I did some investigating with atop and dd and found some mind-blowing numbers. Mind you, I am no Linux guru but something sure seems out of whack. I ran: dd bs=4096 if=/dev/zero of=/bigtestfile to generate disk activity. Regardless whether I wrote it to sda or sdb my DSK value in atop would go over 100%, at one time peaking at 1700%. Again it does not matter if I am writing to sda or sdb. DSK | sdb | busy 675% | read 0 | write 110 | avio 78 ms | Here are the smartctl outputs: # smartctl -A /dev/sda smartctl version 5.38 [x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-8 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ === START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === SMART Attributes Data Structure revision number: 16 Vendor Specific SMART Attributes with Thresholds: ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000b 200 200 051 Pre-fail Always - 0 3 Spin_Up_Time 0x0007 165 165 021 Pre-fail Always - 2750 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0032 100 100 040 Old_age Always - 21 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 200 200 140 Pre-fail Always - 0 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000a 200 200 051 Old_age Always - 0 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 065 065 000 Old_age Always - 25831 10 Spin_Retry_Count 0x0012 100 253 051 Old_age Always - 0 11 Calibration_Retry_Count 0x0012 100 253 051 Old_age Always - 0 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 21 194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0022 116 093 000 Old_age Always - 27 196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0012 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0012 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x000a 200 253 000 Old_age Always - 0 200 Multi_Zone_Error_Rate 0x0008 200 200 051 Old_age Offline - 0 # smartctl -A /dev/sdb smartctl version 5.38 [x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-8 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ === START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === SMART Attributes Data Structure revision number: 16 Vendor Specific SMART Attributes with Thresholds: ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000f 200 200 051 Pre-fail Always - 0 3 Spin_Up_Time 0x0003 180 180 021 Pre-fail Always - 3958 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 22 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 200 200 140 Pre-fail Always - 0 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000f 200 200 051 Pre-fail Always - 0 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 068 068 000 Old_age Always - 24087 10 Spin_Retry_Count 0x0013 100 253 051 Pre-fail Always - 0 11 Calibration_Retry_Count 0x0013 100 253 051 Pre-fail Always - 0 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 21 194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0022 122 096 000 Old_age Always - 25 196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0012 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0010 200 200 000 Old_age Offline - 0 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x003e 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 200 Multi_Zone_Error_Rate 0x0009 200 200 051 Pre-fail Offline - 0 Any idea what's wrong here?   • What would cause ANY .NET application to crash immediately... except a project I create and Debug in

    - by blak3r
My software recently got deployed to a customer who said that the application was crashing immediately after it started. After some initial debugging, the customer provided me remote access to one of the computers which was unable to run the application. I found that the crash wasn't specific to my application. Any application which depended on the .NET framework crashed immediately. Conveniently, Visual Studio 2008 was installed so I created a quick hello world application on it and clicked Debug. The application worked fine. But, then when I tried to execute the generated binaries in the /bin/Debug/HelloWorld.exe directory outside of visual studio it crashed. List of things i've tried (UPDATED): I checked that "Everyone" has Read&Execute permissions for c:\Windows. To test that the problem was with the .NET Framework (and not my application), I attempted to download Paint .NET on to the computers. The setup frontend crashed in the same manner. Performed a repair of the .NET framework as outlined in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908077 (Boy was this fun and time consuming). No luck. Installed .NET 3.5 SP1 (before it just had .NET 3.5) Note: my application targets 2.0 so I did this more as a long shot... but i learned in the process that .NET 3.5 SP1 also updates the underlying frameworks. Ran Aaron Stebner's .NET Setup Verification Tool. This tool indicated that .NET was successfully installed. (I forget if i checked all the versions but at least 2.0 worked). Tested some mini hello world applications which were targeted for .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.5 and both crashed in the same way. Tried launching .NET apps via windbg cmd line. Doing this did allow me invoke my simple hello world applications. So, simple .NET hello world works when invoked by windbg or by launching via debug in visual studio... but doesn't if i try to execute it standalone. I created a dump file using WinDbg. It wasn't all that revealing to me. • Directory listing through FTPS (TLS) is not working

We recently switched our server to require TLS for every connection. This is working flawlessly so far, but one of our clients is having problems. Some facts: Server uses Pure-FTPD Server has a passive port range configured Server has no firewall limitations regarding the FTP Client uses WS FTP Client is behind a router Client connects to the same IP as every other, using PASSIVE mode All other clients have no trouble connecting Because of the TLS requirement, connecting using ACTIVE mode is almost not possible, but PASSIVE is working fine for everyone except this specific client. • Cannot create a new domain in an existing active directory forest

    - by Mackenzie Carr
I have a domain controller setup on Windows Server 2008 R2 (Forest) and I have another Windows Server 2008 R2 (New Domain) and I want to create a new domain in an existing forest. I get the following error: An Active Directory domain controller for the domain mackdev.mackenziecarr.com could not be contacted The error was "no records found for the given DNS query" The query was for the SRV record for: _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.mackdev.mackenziecarr.com I've seem to have tried everything even tried adding this record to the DNS server of the primary forest. I even successfully joined this server to the domain without any issues but trying to create a new domain under the existing forest is no luck. The primary forest I.P. address is 192.168.2.20 the server that I am using to try to make a child domain is 192.168.2.21 My ipconfig are as follows: I.P. • Bring internet connection to ssh target machine via tunnel?

    - by Calvin
I have a CentOS 5 machine deep inside firewalls that's only reachable via ssh on an unconventional port, let's say 98765. I normally connect to this machine like this: ssh -P 98765 user@ip -L5900:localhost:5900 I need to run yum to install some packages on this machine, but it's not possible since the outbound ports are all closed on this machine. I want to do something like this to "bring my internet connection" to this machine: ssh -P 98765 user@ip -L5900:localhost:5900 -R80:localhost:80 -R21:localhost:21 My intention is that, when I run yum on the machine, yum will use port 80 and 21 through my originating machine. Is something like this even possible?

  • How is virtual machine port opening works

    - by Xianlin
I have a question regarding VM port. Say I have a Virtual Machine and a Host Machine. The opening ports on Host are 80, 22, 443 only. if I opened ports 80, 22, 443 VM it should be working. However if I opened port 21 on VM, will it work? If it works, does it mean the port 21 on Host is opened also? My understanding is that the network traffic goes from VM's virtual network adapter to Host's physical network adapter. So the ports on these 2 network adapters should match. Am I correct to say this?

Now that VS2010 is out I wanted to install it so I uninstalled visual studio then MSSLQ Server 2008 SP1 and then SQL Server 2008 as suggested here: h**p://mark.michaelis.net/Blog/SQLServer2008InstallNightmare.aspx But now when I try to reinstall it I am unable to get it right I am getting the ERROR: “Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.” (Following is part of the log file): 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Sco: Attempting to replace account with sid in security descriptor D:(A;CI;KR;;;S-1-5-21-2213424280-2581054173-1939225444-1027) 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: ReplaceAccountWithSidInSddl -- SDDL to be processed: D:(A;CI;KR;;;S-1-5-21-2213424280-2581054173-1939225444-1027) 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: ReplaceAccountWithSidInSddl -- SDDL to be returned: D:(A;CI;KR;;;S-1-5-21-2213424280-2581054173-1939225444-1027) 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Prompting user if they want to retry this action due to the following failure: 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: ---------------------------------------- 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: The following is an exception stack listing the exceptions in outermost to innermost order 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Inner exceptions are being indented 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Exception type: Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.Sco.ScoException 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Message: 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation. 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Data: 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: WatsonData = Microsoft SQL Server 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: DisableRetry = true 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Inner exception type: System.UnauthorizedAccessException 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Message: 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation. 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: Stack: 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: at System.Security.AccessControl.Win32.GetSecurityInfo(ResourceType resourceType, String name, SafeHandle handle, AccessControlSections accessControlSections, RawSecurityDescriptor& resultSd) 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: at System.Security.AccessControl.NativeObjectSecurity.CreateInternal(ResourceType resourceType, Boolean isContainer, String name, SafeHandle handle, AccessControlSections includeSections, Boolean createByName, ExceptionFromErrorCode exceptionFromErrorCode, Object exceptionContext) 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.Sco.SqlRegistrySecurity..ctor(ResourceType resourceType, SafeRegistryHandle handle, AccessControlSections includeSections) 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.Sco.SqlRegistrySecurity.Create(InternalRegistryKey key) 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.Sco.InternalRegistryKey.SetSecurityDescriptor(String sddl, Boolean overwrite) 2010-04-16 04:54:57 Slp: ---------------------------------------- 2010-04-16 10:37:19 Slp: User has chosen to cancel this action 2010-04-16 10:37:19 Slp: Watson Bucket 2 Original Parameter Values 2010-04-16 10:37:19 Slp: Parameter 0 : SQL2008@RTM@ 2010-04-16 10:37:19 Slp: Parameter 2 : System.Security.AccessControl.Win32.GetSecurityInfo 2010-04-16 10:37:19 Slp: Parameter 3 : Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.Sco.ScoException@1211@1 2010-04-16 10:37:19 Slp: Parameter 4 : System.UnauthorizedAccessException@-2147024891 2010-04-16 10:37:19 Slp: Parameter 5 : SqlBrowserConfigAction_install_ConfigNonRC 2010-04-16 10:37:19 Slp: Parameter 7 : Microsoft SQL Server 2010-04-16 10:37:19 Slp: Parameter 8 : Microsoft SQL Server 2010-04-16 10:37:19 Slp: Final Parameter Values I have googled around for the error given error but all I could find is to regedit and reset permissions on certain reg keys but I don’t see any reg keys with access problem in the log file the log file can be download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?dznizytjznn. • iptables port forwarding troubleshooting

    - by cbmanica
I'm trying to forward connections on port 18600 to port 9980. What am I missing? (This is a CentOS-based VM.)

Having troubles getting VSFTPD running on Fedora 14. Here is what I have done so far, please let me know if I am missing something. When I try to connect through FTP it says connection time out. • How to drop all subnets outside of the US using iptables

    - by Jim
I want to block all subnets outside the US. I've made a script that has all of the US subnets in it. I want to disallow or DROP all but my list. Can someone give me an example of how I can start by denying everything? This is the output from -L Chain INPUT (policy DROP) target prot opt source destination ACCEPT all -- anywhere anywhere ACCEPT all -- anywhere anywhere state RELATED,ESTABLISHED ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:ftp state NEW DROP icmp -- anywhere anywhere Chain FORWARD (policy DROP) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination And these are the rules iptables --F iptables --policy INPUT DROP iptables --policy FORWARD DROP iptables --policy OUTPUT ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -i eth0 --dport 21 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p icmp -j DROP Just for clarity, with these rules, I can still connect to port 21 without my subnet list. I want to block ALL subnets and just open those inside the US.

  • JRuby wrong element type class java.lang.String(array contains char) related to JAVA_HOME

    - by Daryl
I am on Ubuntu x64 bit running: java version "1.6.0_18" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.8) (6b18-1.8-0ubuntu1) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode) and jruby 1.4.0 (ruby 1.8.7 patchlevel 174) (2010-02-11 6586) (OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM 1.6.0_18) [amd64-java] I have this code running on my Windows 7 computer at home. I recently copied over my whole folder over to Ubuntu, installed java, jruby, and associated gems but I get this error when I run my main file: jruby run.rb test =================Processing FREDERICKSBURG_1.1======================= ERROR IN TESTING wrong element type class java.lang.String(array contains char) /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/sentence_splitter/splitter.rb:21:in `to_java' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/sentence_splitter/splitter.rb:21:in `split' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/models/page.rb:103:in `sentences' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/lingpipe_svm.rb:34:in `extract' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/geo_controller.rb:9:in `process' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/geo_controller.rb:8:in `each' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/geo_controller.rb:8:in `process' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/geo_controller.rb:6:in `each' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/geo_controller.rb:6:in `process' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/statistics.rb:111:in `generate_all' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/statistics.rb:105:in `each' /home/daryl/Desktop/work/Code/geografikos/lib/statistics.rb:105:in `generate_all' run.rb:56 The focus of the error is: ERROR IN TESTING wrong element type class java.lang.String(array contains char) Everything works fine on my windows machine. I figured I was getting this error because I did not have JAVA_HOME set however I added this to bashrc as: export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk and have confirmed: echo $JAVA_HOME /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk I can produce a similar error by removing my JAVA_HOME variable on windows: =================Processing FREDERICKSBURG_1.3======================= ERROR IN TESTING cannot convert instance of class org.jruby.RubyString to char C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/sentence_splitter/splitter.rb:21:in `to_java' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/sentence_splitter/splitter.rb:21:in `split' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/models/page.rb:103:in `sentences' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/lingpipe_svm.rb:34:in `extract' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/geo_controller.rb:9:in `process' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/geo_controller.rb:8:in `each' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/geo_controller.rb:8:in `process' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/geo_controller.rb:6:in `each' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/extractor/geo_controller.rb:6:in `process' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/statistics.rb:111:in `generate_all' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/statistics.rb:105:in `each' C:/work/Code/geografikos/lib/statistics.rb:105:in `generate_all' run.rb:56 It is obviously not exactly the same but I have a feeling this has to do with the java path. You can probably derive from the error that I am just trying to convert a ruby variable to java using to_java. This works fine on my windows machine and I have confirmed the gems are the same but I don't think this has to do with gems. I lied. I changed my JAVA_HOME back on my windows machine and this error still occurs. So now the code doesn't run on either machine. I recently installed git on my windows machine and added the code to a repository. But I haven't really done anything with it. All it said was it will convert all LF to CRLF...That shouldn't change anything though should it? Any ideas on why I am now getting these errors? I haven't changed anything on my windows machine in months except for installing git.

  • Getting packets from one port to another on a Dell PowerConnect 2824 switch

    - by Arvo Bowen
I have a dell PowerConnect 2824 and I have a cat 5 cable connected from port 1 to port 23. Port 1 is reserved for VLAN 1 (the only VLAN that can manage the switch) and port 18-23 belong to VLAN 112. I currently have the switch setup with ip 10.71.3.5/27 and a test machine plugged into port 22 with IP address 10.71.3.30/27. For some reason I can not ping 10.71.3.5 from my test machine (10.71.3.30). Note: When I try to ping the server plugged into port 21 (IP: 10.71.3.7/27) also VLAN 112, I get responses just fine. Note: When I plug my test machine directly into port 1, I can ping 10.71.3.5 just fine. Quick Recap: Switch IP: 10.71.3.5 Port 1 - dedicated to management - (VLAN1) Port 21 - SERVER (10.71.3.7/27) - (VLAN112) Port 22 - test machine (10.71.3.30/27) - (VLAN112) Port 23 - dedicated to management (to hop over to VLAN 1 from VLAN 112) - (VLAN112)

  • Forwarding RDP via a Linux machine using iptables: Not working

    - by Nimmy Lebby
I have a Linux machine and a Windows machine behind a router that implements NAT (the diagram might be overkill, but was fun to make): I am forwarding RDP port (3389) on the router to the Linux machine because I want to audit RDP connections. For the Linux machine to forward RDP traffic, I wrote these iptables rules: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 3389 -j DNAT --to-destination win-box iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp --dport 3389 -j ACCEPT The port is listening on the Windows machine: C:\Users\nimmy>netstat -a Active Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State (..snip..) TCP 0.0.0.0:3389 WIN-BOX:0 LISTENING (..snip..) And the port is forwarding on the Linux machine: # tcpdump port 3389 tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes 01:33:11.451663 IP shieldsup.grc.com.56387 > linux-box.myapt.lan.ms-wbt-server: Flags [S], seq 94663035, win 8192, options [mss 1460], length 0 01:33:11.451846 IP shieldsup.grc.com.56387 > win-box.myapt.lan.ms-wbt-server: Flags [S], seq 94663035, win 8192, options [mss 1460], length 0 However, I am not getting any successful RDP connections from the outside. The port is not even responding: C:\Users\outside-nimmy>telnet example.com 3389 Connecting To example.com...Could not open connection to the host, on port 3389: Connect failed Any ideas? Update Per @Zhiqiang Ma, I looked at nf_conntrack proc file during a connection attempt and this is what I see (192.168.3.1 = linux-box, 192.168.3.5 = win-box): # cat /proc/net/nf_conntrack | grep 3389 ipv4 2 tcp 6 118 SYN_SENT src=4.79.142.206 dst=192.168.3.1 sport=43142 dport=3389 packets=6 bytes=264 [UNREPLIED] src=192.168.3.5 dst=4.79.142.206 sport=3389 dport=43142 packets=0 bytes=0 mark=0 secmark=0 zone=0 use=2 2nd update Got tcpdump on the router and it seems that win-box is sending an RST packet: 21:20:24.767792 IP shieldsup.grc.com.45349 > linux-box.myapt.lan.3389: S 19088743:19088743(0) win 8192 <mss 1460> 21:20:24.768038 IP shieldsup.grc.com.45349 > win-box.myapt.lan.3389: S 19088743:19088743(0) win 8192 <mss 1460> 21:20:24.770674 IP win-box.myapt.lan.3389 > shieldsup.grc.com.45349: R 721745706:721745706(0) ack 755785049 win 0 Why would Windows be doing this?

  • Unmount Mass Storage USB Device from the Command Line in Linux

    - by Casey
I've searched high and low, and can't figure this one out. I have a older Olympus Camera (2001 or so). When I plug in the USB connection, I get the following log output: $ dmesg | grep sd [20047.625076] sd 21:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg7 type 0 [20047.627922] sd 21:0:0:0: [sdg] Attached SCSI removable disk Secondly, the drive is not mounted in the FS, but when I run gphoto2 I get the following error: $ gphoto2 --list-config *** Error *** An error occurred in the io-library ('Could not lock the device'): Camera is already in use. *** Error (-60: 'Could not lock the device') *** What command will unmount the drive. For example in Nautilus, I can right click and select "Safely Remove Device". After doing that, the /dev/sg7 and /dev/sdg devices are removed. Some things I've tried already are sdparm and sg3_utils, however I am unfamiliar with them, so it's possible I just didn't find the right command.

  • cannot connect to MS FTP 7.5 on Windows 2008 on Amazon EC2 instance

    - by minerj
I have just installed the MS FTP 7.5 upgrade on my Windows 2008 Server (Service Pack 2) running on an Amazon EC2 instance. In the FTP Firewall Support settings for the server in IIS Manager I have set up the passive port range 45001 - 45005 and also set the External Firewall IP address to match the assigned Amazon Elastic IP address. Using the AWS Console I changed the Security Group for the server to allow access to the server through ports 21 and 45001 through 45005. Using an FTP client (either the command line FTP client or Windows Explorer) on the Amazon server I can connect to the FTP server but I cannot connect with an external FTP client. When I checked to see which ports were open on the server using Shields Up it shows that port 21 is open but ports 45001 to 45005 are closed. I assume I'm missing something. Any help greatly appreciated.
