Hello. I am using the beta 2010 Office Outlook. When I try receive or send, i get the following error "outlook data file cannot be accessed." Repair/reinstall office and try to use any different outlook data files is not take any effect.

Solver Add-in not loading correctly

When I try to open solver from inside excel 2010, I get the error message: "Solver: An unexpected internal error occurred, or available memory was exhausted." The only way I have been able to get Solver to work is by going to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\Library\SOLVER\", and just opening the file called "SOLVER.xlam". If I open excel through that file, the program works fine. Is there a way to solve this issue?

Can't change text color in Microsoft Word 2010

I have Microsoft Office 2010 32-bit running on Windows 7 32-bit. When text is highlighted and a color is selected from the mini-toolbar or the ribbon, the text does not change color. If I change the color for multiple words, and select a different color for each word, the toolbar and ribbon will reflect each of the different colors that I chose, however it is not displayed in the document. So it appears that Word is aware of the text color and not as if it is simply not applying the change. What may be causing this inability to view text colors and how might I fix it? My only troubleshooting attempt so far has been to perform a repair installation of Office. EDIT 1 I created a document, typed a word, selected it and changed the color. I then saved the document as HTML. The text did not change color. Oddly, I had some strange issues while the macro was recorded. I could not select text with my cursor. I had to select the text with control a and then apply the color change. I then couldn't deselect the selected text. Nonetheless, the text showed that it had a different color in the toolbar, but the color did not display in the document. If I copy and paste the colored text into a Word 2010 document, the color is lost. However, if you place the I-beam in the text and then look at the color selection drop-down menu on the ribbon or mini-toolbar, you can see that the proper color that the text should be in is highlighted. Edit 4 I uninstalled the entire Office 2010 Suite, rebooted and then reinstalled the suite. No change in behavior. Edit 5 Text cannot be colored in Excel either.

Powerpoint 2010 crash on quickstyle menu

Windows 7 64-bit, recent install, added Office 2010. When I create some boxes and open the quick-style menu, it crashes (or stops responding, in windowese, and then it sends an error report). I've run the "Repair" from the installer, but it didn't help. There's nothing in Windows Update I've Googled and searched on Microsoft's site, but n Any other ideas? (It's not related to this ppt crash question as that concerns PPT 2007. Outlook 2007 / 2010 Calendar: hide meetings in specific category

Question Is there any easy way in Outlook 2007/2010 to show/hide meetings in a specific category? Preferably only for a specific view (the Month view, in this case). Note: I was almost done writing this question, adding just one more "What I've tried" option, when I found an acceptable (though imperfect) solution. Remembering this SE blog post I figured I might as well post it after all and answer it myself. And who knows, perhaps someone else has a more elegant solution. The reason for me personally is that I'd like to hide the "small, recurring meetings" like our daily stand-up meeting in the month view. I'd prefer an Outlook feature that is meant for this (there must be one for this, right?), but I'm open to workarounds or plugin suggestions as well. What I expected to find somewhere was a list of categories (with added option "No category") where you could select/deselect from which categories you'd see meetings. Something like this mock-up: What I've tried Edit "View Settings", and use a "Filter..." on categories. This has several disadvantages, the major one is that the filter only allows me to choose what I want to show, but not what I want to hide. Even if I tick all categories but one for the filter it would still hide any uncategorized meeting. Similar to 1, but then using Advanced filters. Still a bit clumsy as changing views can be up to three clicks, but this is the best solution so far (see the corresponding answer below). Creating a sub-calendar for these "small" meetings that I wish to hide. This felt a bit clumsy and like overkill, but did provide an easy "select/deselect" option to show/hide these meetings. Search for plug-ins that do this. Couldn't find one (yet).

Can't successfully run Sharepoint Foundation 2010 first time configuration

I'm trying to run the non-GUI version of configuration wizard using power shell because I would like to set config and admin database names. GUI wizard doesn't give you all possible options for configuration (but even though it doesn't do it either). Today we got the executive green light to proceed with changing from a Domino platform to Exchange. The business prefers Exchange for a messaging platform. (even though IMO IBM Domino is fine - if it aint broke, don't fix it but it was not my call). I have been put in charge of Domino to Exchange process goes smoothly as possible. I have also been told to put together costs for this project. I have some questions and concerns re: network design, licensing, costs: The current setup is as follows. 1 HQ office (100 users), 1 secondary office (50 users), 5 branch offices (under 10 users). 5 different email domains Windows Server 2003 functional level with a few 2008 R2 Servers Lotus Domino Notes Servers (one in each office) Ironmail Appliance Public Domino Web Mail server Majority G5+ Proliant Servers Domino Blackberry Enterprise license and server No VoIP phones What are the basic hardware requirements for Exchange 2007 or 2010? Can I simply purchase a single physical server? Will each office require an Exchange server or possibly additional servers (roles)? How is email routed to the smaller branch offices? Standard or Enterprise licenses? The business has been running Domino (messaging and application services) for over 10 years and also want Exchange to support email services, Blackberry, Outlook Web Access, possibly support for iPhone devices. When running PowerShell script as a scheduled task some Exchange 2010 database properties are null

Hello, I've written a script that intends to retrieve the DatabaseSize of a database from Exchange 2010. I created a new AD user for this script to run under as a scheduled task. I gave this user admin rights to the Exchange Organization (as a last resort during my testing) and local admin rights on the Exchange machine. When I run this script manually by starting powershell (with runas /noprofile /user:domain\user powershell) everything works fine. All the database properties are available. When I run the script as a scheduled task a lot of the properties are null including the one I want: DatabaseSize. I've also tried running the script as the domain admin account with the same results. There must be something different in the two contexts but I can't figure out what it is. After coming back up the POP3/IMAP4 and Transport services are complaining that they cannot find the correct SSL certificate for mail.example.com. Trying to use a SmartHost with my Exchange 2010 server

Hi folks, I'm trying to use a SmartHost with my Exchange 2010 Server. SmartHost details: Secure SMTPS: securemail.internode.on.net 465 <-- Note: that's port 465 Configure your existing SMTP settings (in your email program) to: use authentication (enter your Internode username and password, enter your username as [email protected]). enable SSL for sending email (SMTPS). So I've added the smart host details to my Org Config -> Hub Transport. I then used PowerShell to add the port:- Set-SendConnector "securemail.internode.on.net" -port 465 I've then added my username/password (as suggested above) to the SmartHost as Basic Authentication (with no TLS). Then I try sending an email and I get the following error message :- 451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with: "421 4.4.2 Connection dropped due to ConnectionReset." So i'm not sure how to continue. I also tried ticking the TLS box but stll I get the same error. If i don't use SMTPS (secure SMTP, on port 465) and use basic SMTP on port 25 with no Authentication, email gets sent. Any ideas? EDIT: Btw, I can telnet to that server on port 465 from my mail server .. just to make sure i'm not getting firewall'd, etc.

Exchange server issues - can't upgrade to SP3 - trying to migrate to Exchange 2010

Our Exchange server is having a lot of issues. It can't get Windows Updates anymore (error 8000FFFF) and it has a lot of other issues that are all related (Server Manager error - Catastrophic failure exception hresult 8000FFFF). Everything I've read online about it says you pretty much have to re-install Windows to fix it. Because of that, we are going to migrate to a new server running Exchange 2010. I have the new server ready and I was doing the pre-requisite checker and it was complaining that the Exchange 2007 installation wasn't SP2 or newer. I checked and indeed, it is SP1. So I am trying to upgrade the Exchange 2007 installation to SP3, however, it is failing. It is hanging on "Removing Exchange files." I followed these instructions and it's still not working. I can get to the part where you run the upgrade from command line but it starts asking for the exchangeserver.msi file. I point it to where it is located but it keeps asking for it. I am starting to get concerned that I can't upgrade the Exchange server because of the same issues above. My next step is to call Microsoft about the issue because I need to get it fixed however I wanted to check here first.

Experiences in Upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010

I'm currently running Exchange 2003 SP2 Cluster on a Server 2003 AD Forest (in native 2003 mode), and we beginning to plan the upgrade to Server 2008 AD and Exchange 2010. We have two main sites, one middle-sized office, and a couple of smaller sites which have DCs (which may be RODCs after the upgrade). Currently all of our Exchange cluster is in my main site, but we are considering using the new datastore paradigm for load-balance/failover at the other large site, but this is not set in stone. Right now we are in the information-gathering and planning phases. I am looking for input of any gotchas experienced while performing either upgrade, but especially the Exchange upgrade. Gotchas? What surprised you? What wasn't documented? What said one thing but was misleading? (Confusing either in content or severity.) What is great or horrible about the new system? What worked well? What worked poorly? If you were to do it over again...? (I know that this isn't so much a question that can be definitively answered, but I'm happy to reward insight and useful resources (not the Microsoft documentation, but Blogposts are welcome) with upvotes.) UPDATE A couple items of note: -We are not currently using OWA (currently only the admins), but it may become more of a consideration with iOS devices. -We do have a small number of Blackberries in the environment (< 10%). -In addition to the standard Exchange connectors, we have a third-party connector for Captaris RightFax integration.

Setting up PerformancePoint Services on Sharepoint 2010: connection errors

Setup Exchange 2010 cannot verify Host (A) record warning

When I try to install Exchange 2010 on my server 2008 R2 server I get a warning during the prerequisites check: Warning: setup cannot verify that the 'Host' (A) record for this computer exists within the DNS database on server: 90.195.200.12. The goal of this Exchange setup is that I'm able to sent email in my local domain as well receive/sent email through the public domain name. Some information about my setup This Server is going to be a dedicated exchange host and has the following IP setup: (IP's are examples and not the real IP's ofc) Local VLAN NIC: IP: 10.10.50.22 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 No gateway DNS: 10.10.50.1 (is domain controler with authoritive DNS) public WAN NIC: IP: 90.195.200.148 Subnet: 255.255.255.235 Gateway: 90.195.200.145 DNS: 90.195.200.12 | 190.160.230.14 My public domain - exampledomain.com A record: mail - IP: 90.195.200.148 MX record IP: 90.195.200.148 As I'm seeing now the exchange setup is looking for the A record in one of the DNS servers in my Public WAN NIC. And ofc this is not where my A records are defined. I have those A records in 2 places: 1. In the domain controler DNS (the private nic) 2. In the online dns registration of my public domain (exampledomain.com) My question is... is this warning going to be a problem? Can I do something better in my setup so that this warning will go away? Please advice?

530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated Exchange 2010 for some computers within mask

We have a classic problem with Client not Authenticated but with a specific twist: We have an Exchange 2010 cluster, let's say EX01 and EX02, the connection is always to smtp.acme.com, then it is switched through load balancer. We have an application server, call it APP01 There are clients connected to the APP01. There is a need for anonymous mail relay from both clients and APP01. The Anonymous Users setting of the Exchange is DISABLED, but the specific computers - APP01 and clients by the mask, let's say, 192.168.2.* - are enabled. For internal relay, a "Send Connector" is created, and then the above IP addresses are added for the connector to allow computers, servers, or any other device such as a copy machine to use the exchange server to relay email to recipients. The problem is that the relay works for APP01 and some clients, but not others (we get "Client not Authenticated") - all inside the same network and the same mask. This is basically what we do to test it outside of our application: http://smtp25.blogspot.sk/2009/04/530-571-client-was-not-authenticated.html So, I am looking for ideas: What can be the reason for such a strange behaviour? Where I can see the trace of what's going on at the Exchange side?

Exchange 2010 CAS Removal == Broken???

Hi there, I recently upgraded to exchange 2010 and have a setup with 2 of my servers running CAS roles - EXCH01, EXCH02 EXCH02 just happens to also have a mailbox role where a lot of the users sit EXCH01 is my front facing CAS server, and is facing the net with SSL etc and incoming mail moving through it as a hub transport layer server as well. As i was trying to lean things out in my VM environment i removed the CAS role from EXCH02 and all hell broke loose. All the mail users that have a mailbox on EXCH02 had their homeMTA set to a deleted items folder in AD and so did their msExchHomeServer properties. After a complete battle i manually fixed these issues to the oldvalues, and in the mean time reinstalled CAS on EXCH02 (management was going nuts with out OUTLOOK working so i just put things back the way they were in a hurry.) I must add as a strange thing on the side, that before i reset these to point at EXCH02 i tried EXCH01 and it failed. I still want to remove the CAS role from EXCH02 as it should really not have it (error on install/planning on my part) and would have thought that this would not cause the issues it did, i assumed that the fact that there was another CAS server in the admin group all would be good. Was i wrong in my assumption? and what can i do to complete this successfully the second time round? Do i need to rehome all the mailboxes to the CAS server? is this a bug in the role uninstall?

Word 2010, Multiple Columns, Vertical center one column only

I am creating a document with two columns in Microsoft Word 2010. I want the first column to be centered vertically. I want the second column to be on the same page and the vertical placement to be from the top. I highlight my text in the first column that I want centered vertically, then go to Page Layout Margins Custom Margins Layout, you can choose to center the vertical alignment. I have choosen the "Section Start" to be "Column" and also tried "Continuous." In all cases it always shifts all of my second column information to a new page. I don't want my second column text to be on a new page, I want it to be on the same page and vertically aligned from the top--not the center. Am I understanding the functionality of the Section Start on the Layout tab correctly? Maybe the page layout isn't the correct formatting to use. What I am really doing is formatting columns. I haven't found anywhere to format the columns for this. Am I missing some important column formatting features? I know that I can use the paragraph formatting and add space above the first line of text to make it look like it is centered vertically. However, this is a template for a master document and will be changed frequently. I really would like the first column text to be automatically formatted to be centered vertically without having to go in and manually change the space above the paragraph every time. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Exchange 2010 sends out spam.

Hi. I have an Exchange Server 2010, that uses a smart host to send out mails. A day ago the owner of smart host contact us and told us that we send out spam. I have try different open relay test on the net and all of them come back saying that this server is secured and can not be used as relay server. But I can see in my Exchange Queue Viewer that it keeps coming in new messages. Here is an example of how it looks. Could I have got an virus that hooks up to our exchange server and send mail throw that? As I can see the From Address is always <, is there someway that I can stop sending mails that don't have a from address that I describe? Pleas help

SharePoint 2010 Enterprise wiki - [New page] missing

I am trying to ramp up knowledge on SharePoint deployment and usage (never did before), due to a direction to use SharePoint 2010 as a repository platform (wiki format) for our customer's infrastructure documentation. In my test virtual server, a new site of Enterprise wiki template was setup. Went into Site Actions Manage Site Features to activate Wiki Page Home Page. The default sub-web then went from /Pages to /SitePages and looks like the default Team template. The odd thing is the Site Actions is missing the New Page option. My colleague does not understand why this is the case, as it ought to be there. The original /Pages sub-web does have the option. What conditions are in play that influences the appearance of that option? UPDATE Another phenomenon observed is in the Site Actions View All Site Content view, the wiki document libraries listed in the grid will have their hyperlink (e.g. "Site Pages") lead straight to the direct default page. It would not show its own table listing of pages under that document library, unlike the original Pages document library, which expectedly show up as a listing. I wonder if this hints to any problems.

Exchange 2010 issuing NDRs to Hotmail/Live & few other domains on receipt of message

I'm working through a beast of an issue at the moment. Exchange 2010 single server on prem Hybrid deployment to Office 365 ESMTP filtering turned off on ASA Certain domains (most consistently, Hotmail/Live) cannot send us mail. At one point, we couldn't send out either, but I created a new Send Connector that forces HELO instead of EHLO. I turned on SMTP logging, an example of the failed inbound message connection is below. I've read that it could be that reverse DNS is the problem, i.e., the exchange banner smtp address needs to reverse-DNS back to the same IP. Since it's the default exchange connector, its banner is the server's name, but the DNS name of the MX record is different. I'm waiting for the PTR records to update to reflect the internal name as well. Is that the right direction? Is this all DNS or something different? Outlook 2010 on WinXP runs once then refuses to run again until reboot

Since I installed Outlook 2010 on a new machine (WinXP Pro SP3) a couple months back I have had an issue that is quite annoying: If I close Outlook then attempt to restart it I get a small pop-up saying only: "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook". I found one workaround, but not a terribly practical one: reboot. If I reboot then launch Outlook, it opens fine. Here is what I know: Since I can run Outlook just fine after a reboot, I do not see that a system restore, an OS reinstall, or the like would help. I tried "outlook.exe /resetnavpane" and "outlook.exe /safe" but those give the same error. There are no entries in the event log. There is no instance of Outlook appearing in the process list once I close the program, so it does not seem to be an alias for "outlook is already running". As far as I have found, my situation is unique among reports of similar incidents: I have uncovered no other reports saying Outlook would run fine the first launch or that a reboot would again allow it to run. Suggestions?

Outlook 2010 not resolving SMTP address to Display Name

I have a weird problem where a user (director, naturally) has an odd problem with the way the to field shows in his Outlook. We are using Outlook 2010 (with RPC/HTTP) and Exch 2003 at the back end. Most of his mail shows in his mailbox with the To: field as normal. (e.g. Fred Bloggs in the to field.) However, some mails come in showing in the To: field as [email protected]. (Apparently this is an issue!) For example, most show as: but a few come in as: There doesn't appear to be a pattern to this. I have tried to replicate by: Sending from any specific senders to see if it recurs (it doesn't) Typing his full name in my Outlook and sending (it resolves as normal) Sending programatically (e.g. from script) - (it still resolves OK) Forcing a "[email protected]" entry in my Outlook. It resolves as soon as I hit enter Sending in cached mode Sending disconnected Anyone got any ideas how I can either replicate the problem or fix it! I can't tell at the moment whether it is a problem at his end or the sender's. EDIT This seems to be a global issue, following some more digging. Most people seem to have a few emails in their inbox addressed to their smtp address, rather than display name.

I'm trying to use the following command to delete these addresses (keeping the primary SMTP) and disabling the automatic update from recipient policy so the SMTP addresses don't get recreated again. Need Help Scoping a Server to use for study (MCITP Ent Admin + SharePoint 2010)

i need to study for mcitp, but i also need to study for sharepoint 2010 i have a poweredge 1850 with two single-core CPUs + two 73G drives - it kills me on electricity, so don't want to use it, and it won't do VT, but it could be one of three boxes for a lab that's cheap, but will cost a lot on electricity i was thinking . . . OPTION #1 Opteron 4170 HE (50 watt chip), 6-core, only two-bills ($200), but the board's are $250, so that's an $800 box, then get another box to dual-boot Win7/Hyper-V on the cheap...? OPTION #2 Used Quad - but how many VM's that are really banging away could it run at same time? (Server 2008r2, SQL 2008r2, Search Server) OPTION #3 Study from books and just get one box that can run two VM's at same time, even if slowly. the last time i had and used a home lab was five years ago when i had a DC, SQL, Exchange and business app box, that's where i got my server skills was just banging on it for four years, but didn't read any books, so now i have to get certified and know the material, and just am not sure how much attention i should pay to the box i use versus the studying time and reading. sorry it's a subjective question, and am obviously open to all sorts of abuse here, but hope you can tell me also how many VM's i can run at the same time given what they'll be doing (SQL and SharePoint FAST search server are resource hungry) thanks!

Problems when pasting Outlook 2010 signature logo into message body

Whenever I paste my company logo into a message in Outlook 2010, I run into a variety of complications and anomalies. The dimensions of my original logo image are 315x174 (source image is a PNG file). I am scaling this image down in Photoshop CS6 to a variety of smaller sizes for testing my Outlook signature (300x166, 250x138, 200x110,150x83 and 100x55 pixels). 300x166 = no distortion. This looks the same as in Photoshop (but far too large to use in my signature). 250x130 = distorted (gets stretched much wider by Outlook when pasting into message body). 200x110 = looks reasonable, but seems to have been scaled to a different size (smaller) by Outlook for no obvious reason. 150x83 = for some reason, this is scaled by Outlook to the exact same size that 200x110 was scaled to. In fact, a large range of similar dimensions are scaled to the exact same image size by Outlook. This is very frustrating. Why is this happening and what can be done to prevent it? 100x55 = when pasting my logo from Photoshop to Outlook with these dimensions all that happens is the cursor jumps forwards about an inch on the screen, leaving a blank space where the image was supposed to go. Any advice would be much appreciated.
