  • Large static arrays are slowing down class load, need a better/faster lookup method

    I have a class with a couple static arrays: an int[] with 17,720 elements a string[] with 17,720 elements I noticed when I first access this class it takes almost 2 seconds to initialize, which causes a pause in the GUI that's accessing it. Specifically, it's a lookup for Unicode character names. The first array is an index into the second array. static readonly int[] NAME_INDEX = { 0x0000, 0x0001, 0x0005, 0x002C, 0x003B, ... static readonly string[] NAMES = { "Exclamation Mark", "Digit Three", "Semicolon", "Question Mark", ... The following code is how the arrays are used (given a character code). [Note: This code isn't a performance problem] int nameIndex = Array.BinarySearch<int>(NAME_INDEX, code); if (nameIndex > 0) { return NAMES[nameIndex]; } I guess I'm looking at other options on how to structure the data so that 1) The class is quickly loaded, and 2) I can quickly get the "name" for a given character code. Should I not be storing all these thousands of elements in static arrays?

    My Objective is to use h:messages to convey user - error and confirmation messages.The CSS styles to show these two different messages are different, In fact I would like to use an image beside the confirmation message. for Eg: <tr> <td><img/></td><td><h:msg></td> </td>. So I tried to add messages to the Faces Context based on 2 different client ids <tr> <td height="5"> <h:messages style="color:darkred" id="error_message" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td width="89%" class="InfoMsg" align="center"> <h:messages id="confirm_message" /> </td> </tr> and in the java layer FacesMessage facesMessage = new FacesMessage(Constants.saveMessageConfirm); FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addMessage(Constants.STATIC_CONFIRM_MSG_CLIENT_ID, facesMessage); But, even if i add messages to client Id confirm_message - and only to confirm_message - and not to error_message - The message is shown twice in 2 different styles (refer the HTML above) 2 Questions : 1) What is the problem here? 2) If I want to show the image inside a td in the second tr and conditionaly show that second tr when confirm messages are present - what is the best way?     I am f...fed up with Subversion. Need a version control that: Can be used without affecting the sources with embedded files (like the Subversion .svn-directories), or having to check in and then check out (If you want to version control live web-site files for example). It should always be possible to bring the repository quickly up to date whatever I have done (Without resolving conflicts or adding files first etc.) Ideally it should be possible to merge repositories starting out as separate. I thing it should be a distributed one, I think GIT is the Lingua Franca, but there is also Mercurial and Bazaar, which should have some advantages since they exist :-)

My IDE is not recognizing getline() so of course when I compile the application. I get an error 'getline': identifier not found Now take a look at this code #include "stdafx.h" #include<iostream> #include<conio.h> using namespace std; /* This is a template Project */ void MultiplicationTable(int x); int main() { int value = 0; printf("Please enter any number \n\n"); cin>>value; MultiplicationTable(value); getchar(); return 0; } When I execute this line of code the console window opens and immediately closes. I think I a missing something about cin. I do know that it delimits spaces but I don't know what else. what should I use for input to make my life easier.

    We're about to embark on some ASP.NET MVC development and have been using our own entity framework for years. However we need to support more than our entity framework is capable of and so I'd like to get some opinions about using MVC with a more robust framework. We have narrowed down or choices to either NHibernate (with the Fluent APIs) or LINQ to SQL. Which framework lends itself best to MVC style development (I know SO uses LINQ to SQL)? If we want to support SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL - does that exclude LINQ to SQL?

    Guys would it be difficult to write coutn which will be basically place newline symbol at the end of the input. While working with console (that's all I can do at the moment) I'm finding very tedious to write '\n' every time I want the line to be a new line. Or maybe it is already implemented?

  • What would be a better implementation of shared variable among subclass

    So currently I have a spring unit testing application. And it requires me to get a session cookie from a foreign authentication source. Problem what that is, this authentication process is fairly expensive and time consuming, and I am trying to create a structure where I am authenticate once, by any subclass, and any subsequent subclass is created, it will reuse this session cookie without hitting the authentication process again. My problem right now is, the static cookie is null each time another subclass is created. And I been reading that using static as a global variable is a bad idea, but I couldn't think of another way to do this because of Spring framework setting things during run time and how I would set the cookie so that all other classes can use it. Another piece of information. The variable is being use, but is change able during run time. It is not a single user being signed in and used across the board. But more like a Sub1 would call login, and we have a cookie. Then multiple test will be using that login until SubX will come in and say, I am using different credential, so I need to login as something else. And repeats. Here is a outline of my code: public class Parent implements InitializingBean { protected static String BASE_URL; public static Cookie cookie; ...     This should be an easy one, looks like I got myself too confused. I get a table from a database, data ranges from varchar to int to Null values.   • git: better way for git revert without additional reverted commit

    I have a commit in a remote+local branch and I want to throw that commit out of the history and put some of them into an own branch. Basically, right now I have: D---E---F---G master And I want: E---G topic / D master That should be both in my local and in the (there is only one, called origin) remote repository. Which is the cleanest way to get that? Also, there are also other people who have cloned that repo and who have checked out the master branch. If I would do such a change in the remote repo, would 'git pull' work for them to get also to the same state?

  • Better way to download a binary file?

    I have a site where a user can download a file. Some files are extremely large (the largest being 323 MB). When I test it to try and download this file I get an out of memory exception. The only way I know to download the file is below. The reason I'm using the code below is because the URL is encoded and I can't let the user link directly to the file. Is there another way to download this file without having to read the whole thing into a byte array?     I just realized that my application was needlessly making 50+ database calls per user request due to some hidden coding -- hidden in the sense that between LINQ, persistence frameworks and events it just so turned out that a huge number of calls were being made without me being aware. Is there a recommended way to analyze individual transactions going to my SQL 2008 database, preferably with some integration to my Visual Studio 2010 environment? I want to be able to 'spy' on individual transactions being made, but only for certain pieces of my code, and without making serious changes to either the code or database.

And these ingredients have different prices for different sizes. For that I also have a table like Ingredient :: id | name | sizeid | categoryid | price I am not sure if this Structure really normalized is. So, this being said, specific questions: Is what i have shown below an acceptable solution? Can you suggest something more elegant?
