  • ubuntu box just redisplaying login screen after update

    My Ubuntu 12.04 box has been working fine. A recent update may have messed something up. I normally run remote windows on it, and I noticed that my windows were failing to start up. I then tried logging into it directly from the GUI console, and I'm seeing that after I press enter on the (valid) password, the page just redisplays. It's not a password error, as that would give me an inline error. I see some messages appear and disappear quickly between the login screen going away and then redisplaying, but they go away too quickly to read. I was able to run the non-gui login, and I did an update and upgrade, and then rebooted, but it's doing the same thing. I have a Samba connection from my Windows box, and that's still working. If it matters, here's my uname output (somewhat elided): Linux ... 3.2.0-26-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 14 17:49:24 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux What can I do to troubleshoot this? Note that when I select "Guest Session", it lets me log in and displays the window manager. This seems significant to me. Does this mean that something specific to my login is causing it to fail?   • Ubuntu 12.04 wireless disabled even though the direct connectin (thru modem) is working fine

    Need help with my newly installed Ubuntu 12.04 system (dual booting along with Win 7), even thoguh I can use internet using the modem and directly plugging it, the wireless network is disabled and it says firmware missing.   • Why unchecked jQuery UI radio button's label appears "checked" after refresh in FF and IE?

    I've got 2 radio buttons with labels: button A is checked by default in HTML (checked="checked"). They're then processed with jQuery UI Radio Button. When I check button B and refresh the page, B's label is displayed as checked (it has CSS ui-state-active class). And A's label is displayed as unchecked, even though it's A button that is actually checked. It happens in Firefox (3) and IE (8). I try to read some file with google's GDownloadUrl and it works only from time to time. failure means fileRows == "blah blah" success means fileRows == (real file content) I've noticed, however, that when I cease (with Firebug) the execution on line 3 for a couple of seconds, it succeeds more often. Maybe it is some kind of threading bug, then?   • GMap in iframe gets off-center

    I have a Google Map (API 2) that used to work fine as a standalone page. However, when I load the map page within an iframe (with Thickbox), the map gets off-center: normally it's centered over Germany and in the iframe it centers on Iran, instead. How to make the map center correctly? My guesses: The problem can result from the iframe loading time. I guess, that the script calculates window size basing on the iframe size when it's still loading. I need to set up Drupal 6 as a multilanguage site. 1 installation, several language versions = several domains, i.e. English at englishsite.com French at frenchsite.com German at germansite.com. I've found a Tutorial that suggest that you need access to server's http.conf - this is quite unlikely on shared hosting. Is it really neccesary? Maybe You can set it up with .htaccess or any other way. Namely: what should I do to have such a configuration working ? (after setting Language negotiation to Domain name only on .../admin/settings/language/configure)

    Hi, I have a CCK datetime field and would like to set its default value to 31 May 2011. When I go to the configuration of the field I can set the default value to Now, Blank or Relative. Relative is to be set by a PHP's strtotime argument. However, it fails when I set it to 31 May 2011 last day of May 2011 (that should normally work according to http://php.net/manual/en/function.strtotime.php) Do You have any idea how to set it to default to 31 May 2011?

  • Taxonomy terms are not translated in an exposed filters block

    Hi, in my view's exposed filters block the taxonomy terms are showed only in the original language version (in English). Vocabulary is set to Localize terms. The terms are translated via Translation Table. All the other content (Views, nodes, translated strings etc.) is showed correctly (in German). I'd expect them to appear in current language, however. Here for instance, I'd expect to have German Sommer 10 instead of English Summer 10. Do You have any idea how to solve it? I use Drupal 6 and Views 2.10

    Took the little one to the pool tonight for swim lessons. Okay, Okay. They're not really lessons so much as they are "Hey, here's a few bucks, let me rent out a small section of your pool to swim around with my little one" Saw a dad at the pool. Bluetooth on, iPad in hand, and two year old somewhere around there. Saw a mom at the pool. Arguing with her five year old to NOT take a shower after swimming. Bluetooth on, iPad in hand, work laptop open on stadium seats. Her reasoning for not wanting the child to shower "Look, I have to get this stuff to the office by 6:30, we don't have time for you to shower. Let's go" Wait, isn't the whole point of this little experience called Mommy and Me (or, as in my case, Daddy and Me). Wherein Mommy/Daddy is supposed to spend time with little one. Not with the Bluetooth. Not with the work laptop. Dad (yeah, the same dad from earlier), in the pool. Bluetooth off (it's not waterproof or I'm sure he would've had it on), two year old in hand and iPad somewhere put away. Getting frustrated with kid because he won't 'perform' on command. Here's a little exchange Kid: "I don't wanna get in the water" Dad: "Well, we're here for 30 minutes, get in the water" Kid: "No, don't wanna" Dad: "Fine, I'm getting in" and, true to his word, in he goes, off to swim. Kid: Crying Dad: "Well, c'mon" Kid: Walking to stands Dad: Ignoring kid Kid: At stands Dad: Out of pool, drying off. Frustrated. Grabs bag, grabs kid, leaves How sad. It really seems like I am living in a generation of parents who view their children as one big scheduled distraction to another. It's almost like the dad was saying "Look, little 2 year old boy, I have a busy scheduled. Right now my Outlook Calendar tells me that I have 30 mins to spend with you, so, let's go kid: PERFORM because I have the time" Really? Can someone please tell me when the hell this happened? When did spending time with your kid, spending time with your family, spending time with your spouse, etc... become a distraction? I've seen people at work all day Tweeting throughout the day, checked in with Four Square, IM up and running constantly so they can 'stay in touch' only to see these same folks come home and be irritated because their kids or their spouse wants to connect with the. I've seen these very same people leave the house, go to the corner bar/store/you-name-the-place to be 'alone' only to find them there, plugged in, tweeting away, etc, etc, etc I LOVE technology. I love working with technology. But I also know that I am a human being. A person who, by very definition, is a social being. I needed social interactions and contact--and, no, I'm not talking about the Social Graph kind of connections, I'm talking about those interactions which, *GASP* involve eye to eye contact and human contact. A recent study found that the number one complaint of kids is that they feel they have to compete with technology for their parents time and attention. The number one wish from high school kids? That there parents would turn off the computer/tv/cell phone at dinner. This, coming from high school kids. Shouldn't that tell you a whole helluva lot? So, do yourself a favor tomorrow. Plug into technology all day. Throw yourself into it. Be passionate about what you do. When you walk through the door to your family, turn it all off for 30 mins and be there with your loved ones. If you can manage to play Angry Birds, I'm sure you can handle being disconnected for 30 minutes. Make the time

  • PyGTK, Glade, Changing the window view and threads

    Heya Everyone, Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question, just so far no where on the internet can I find someone offering a solution to this and I just wanted to get some feedback from someone with more experience than myself (I've only been using python, pyGTK and Glade for 2 days now). I have a UI window displaying and it updates with messages from a thread that is handling a bluetooth connection. This is fine and I have the application closing and running quite reliably, the problem is, after a bluetooth connection is made I wish to maintain the bluetooth thread (i.e. keep the connection going) but completely change the UI of the main window. Now the impression I am getting from pyGTK applications made from glade, is that the easiest thing to do is just open a new window. Is this really the best option? Can I cut the tree of widgets off at the root, maintaining the window widget but add on a new set of widgets from a separate glade file? If opening a new window is the best option, am I right in assuming that the bluetooth thread can be kept alive during this transition, providing I update any callbacks? Any help or pointers would be great. Cheers, Matt

    Hi, i want to connect my mobile internet to pc using bluetooth device. I installed blue soleil software in my pc. Steps: 1.I can able to pair my cellphone with pc bluetooth device. 2.I selected my device and select bluetooth dialup networking service. 3.It asks an alert "DUN connection with device?" in my mobile. 4.After Clicked "YES", connect bluetooth DUN connection window opens. 5.In that window there was a fields "User Name", "PassWord" which i leave empty and then in "Dial = 99**1#" and click Dial button. 6.After that it say "Registering your computer on the netwok.." and become fails. 7. The Error is as "error 734 the ppp link control protocal was terminated" The same procedure should be followed for Nokia 3110c it works fine.But in my samsung mobile c3053 it not connected also i am tryig with samsung corby pro BT3510 mobile . Is there any settings changes needed for samsung mobiles ? Can anyone help me ? Thanks in advance...........

    I am using same network for 2 days and everything was normal. However, today even though it shows me as connected to the network, I do not have internet connection. If I use ethernet cable instead of wireless, I am still able to connect to the internet. Also my friends are able to connect to the wireless network and they can get internet connection. I did not update or install anything since yesterday. Therefore I do not have any idea why it is happening.   • Why is my router not routing?

    Starting a week and half ago my router stopped working with my cable modem. I went to sleep with it working and woke up with it not. I swapped in another router and am still having issues; I was gone for 10 days so now I'm back to trying to figure it out. While I was gone I left everything (cable modem, router, and computer) powered off. My setup: Comcast Ambit cable modem (from Comcast) Netgear WGR614 v4 router -- replaced with Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 Windows XP SP3 other computers, all currently unplugged The modem is using the firmware (ver 2.105.2001) provided by Comcast; hardware version 1.3 The Linksys router is using FW ver 4.71.4 (latest for this release of HW), factory defaults I am only using the wired connections; no wireless. I have swapped out all of the cat5 cable. If I plug my computer directly into the cable modem, I can ping by name or number. Everything works perfectly. If I plug my computer into the router and the router into the modem, I cannot access anything outside of my local network. This is the exact setup I've used for the past 5 years; there were no changes in the past year. Now here's the interesting part: I can log into the Linksys router and get status information from it; everything appears good. Using the Diagnostics, I can run ping and traceroute to any site on the internet. These work perfectly. From my computer, I can ping the router and the modem. However, I cannot ping anything on the internet by with name or number. If I plug in another computer, I can ping it successfully. I've included two transcripts below that show these two attempts. Addresses, DNS, gateways, etc. look good. I cannot access the internet through either router. I am at a loss here. Suggestions? Help!     Is there any app where I could control the camera of my phone remotely(even bluetooth would do) I have a Nokia 5800 xpress music. The app could either be a stand alone app installed on the mobile phone than could click snaps at predefined intervals or if there is a app that I can install on my PC and then control my phone's camera via bluetooth or wifi or anything else.   • Creating stereo file from two mono files with sox

    I'm using sox 14.2.0 on Centos 6.0. I have two mono wav files, left.wav and right.wav. I need to combine them into one stereo.ogg file, with left.wav pan 80% to the left, and right.wav pan 80% to the right. I was unable to come up with the sox options needed for this. How do I do this? This is going to be executed repeatably for many files, so I'd prefer an efficient solution. From what I understand there should be a way to do it in one pass (one invocation of sox).

    How can I get the Google Chrome web browser on my TV for under $100? ($200 MAX) I have a TV with HDMI and component inputs (but no bluetooth so firmware modding is out.) I want the solution to work with bluetooth peripherals--I already have a wireless Apple keyboard and Magic Mouse. I don't want a laptop or a desktop computer, unless it's in the general form factor of an HTPC or Mac Mini. Is there a way to make this happen?

  • MPlayer refuses to generate mono wav file

    I want to downsample an existing audio file to 8KHz mono. This command line downsamples it to stereo: mplayer -quiet -vo null -vc dummy -af volume=0,resample=8000:0:1 -ao pcm:waveheader:file="/tmp/blah1.wav" ~/from_my_cellphone.3ga It generates a file that the file utility identifies as stereo: $ file /tmp/blah1.wav /tmp/blah1.wav: RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, Microsoft PCM, 16 bit, stereo 8000 Hz Now, if I read the documentation correctly, I should add pan=1:0.5:0.5 so I get a file that's half the size: mplayer -quiet -vo null -vc dummy -af volume=0,resample=8000:0:1:pan=1:0.5:0.5 -ao pcm:waveheader:file="/tmp/blah2.wav" ~/from_my_cellphone.3ga But it doesn't! blah2.wav is identical to blah1.wav! What am I doing wrong?

    So I'm trying to create a input class that implements a InputHandler & GestureListener in order to support both Android & Desktop. The problem is that not all the methods are being called properly.
