• to_date in MS SQL Server 2005

- by Chin
Does any one know how I would have to change the following to work with ms sql? WHERE registrationDate between to_date ('2003/01/01', 'yyyy/mm/dd') AND to_date ('2003/12/31', 'yyyy/mm/dd'); What I have read implies I would have to construct it using DATEPART() which could become very long winded. Especially when the goal would be to compare on dates which I receive in the following format "2003-12-30 10:07:42". It would be nice to pass them off to the database as is. Any pointers appreciated.

• Marshall a list of objects from VB6 to C#

- by Andrew
I have a development which requires the passing of objects between a VB6 application and a C# class library. The objects are defined in the C# class library and are used as parameters for methods exposed by other classes in the same library. The objects all contain simple string/numeric properties and so marshaling has been relatively painless. We now have a requirement to pass an object which contains a list of other objects. If I was coding this in VB6 I might have a class containing a collection as a member variable. In C# I might have a class with a List member variable. Is it possible to construct a C# class in such a way that the VB6 application could populate this inner list and marshal it successfully? I don't have a lot of experience here but I would guess Id have to use an array of Object types.

• GAE/Django Templates (0.96) filters to get LENGTH of GqlQuery and filter it

- by Halst
I pass the query with comments to my template: COMM = CommentModel.gql("ORDER BY created") doRender(self,CP.template,{'CP':CP,'COMM':COMM, 'authorize':authorize()}) And I want to output the number of comments as a result, and I try to do things like that: {{ COMM|length }} comments Thats does not work (yeah, since COMM is GqlQuery, not a list). What can I do with that? Is there a way to convert GqlQuery to list or is there another solution? (first question) Second question is, how to filter this list in template? Is there a construct like this: {{ COMM|where(reference=smth)|length }} comments so that I can get not only the number of all comments, but only comments with certain db.ReferenceProperty() property, for example. Last question: is it weird to do such things using templates?

• .NET How can i set field value on value type using reflection

- by soccerazy
.NET I want to clone a value type's fields. How can i set a field value on a value type using reflection (or something else dynamically)? This works for reference types but not for value types. I understand why but I don't know an alternative. shared function clone(of t)(original as t) as t dim cloned as t 'if class then execute parameterless constructor if getType(t).isClass then cloned = reflector.construct(of t)() dim public_fields = original.getType.getFields() for each field in public_fields dim original_value = field.getValue(original) 'this won't work for value type, but it does work for reference type ??? field.setValue(cloned, original_value) next return cloned end function

• Accessing original WordPress blog's DB from sub-blogs in network mode

- by aendrew
I'm helping with a university radio station website that runs WordPress and was recently switched over to Network (Multi-site/multi-user) mode by myself. The setup is as such: The parent site (www.stationID.com) runs a bunch of custom-built plugins to construct things like the show schedule calendar, the "Now Playing" widget, podcast list, et cetera. The new network websites ("wiki.stationID.com", "buddypress.stationID.com" for instance) run the same template as the parent site, but it stops after rendering the first section because the widgets from point 1 grab data from the main site's database that is not available to sub-blogs. My question is: how do I get data from the main site's tables on the sub-domain sub-blogs? A related question is: how do I set the $wpdb->prefix to be the same as the parent site on the child websites without it negatively effecting how the child website pulls data from its own database? Any help would be awesome, thanks!

• Using LINQ to fetch result from nested SQL queries

- by Shantanu Gupta
This is my first question and first day in Linq so bit difficult day for me to understand. I want to fetch some records from database i.e. select * from tblDepartment where department_id in ( select department_id from tblMap where Guest_Id = @GuestId ) I have taken two DataTable. i.e. tblDepartment, tblMap Now I want to fetch this result and want to store it in third DataTable. How can I do this. I have been able to construct this query up till now after googling. var query = from myrow in _dtDepartment.AsEnumerable() where myrow.Field<int>("Department_Id") == _departmentId select myrow; Please provide me some link for learning Linq mainly for DataTables and DataSets. EDIT: I have got a very similar example here but i m still not able to understand how it is working. Please put some torch on it.

• How to add custom SOAP header in Spring WS using Axiom and XmlBeans

- by java_pill
I'm using Spring WS 1.5.8, XmlBeans for marshalling/unmarshalling and AxiomSoapMessageFactory. My app. needs a custom SOAP header. The data that needs to be in the SOAP Header is a XmlBean (i.e sessionContext in the code below). How can I construct the SOAP Header with this XmlBeans XmlObject element in it? I've mentioned the code of my WebServiceMessageCallback that I'm using and executing this code results in "'Content is not allowed in prolog.' error. Thanks, public void doWithMessage(WebServiceMessage message) throws IOException, TransformerException { SoapMessage soapMessage = (SoapMessage) message; SoapHeader header = soapMessage.getSoapHeader(); StringSource headerSource = new StringSource(XmlBeanUtils.getValue(sessionContext) ); transform(headerSource, header.getResult()); }

• Is it possible to find the KNN for a node that is *IN* the KD-tree?

- by Stephen
Hi there, Trying to create a KNN search using a KD-tree. I can form the KD-tree fine (or at least, I believe I can!). My problem is that I am searching to find the closest 2 neighbours to every point in a list of points. So, is there a method to find the K nearest neighbours to a point using a KD tree even if the point is actually IN the tree, or do I need to construct a seperate KD tree for each point, leaving out the point that I wish to search for? My implementation language is C++, but I am more looking for either an algorithm or general help, thanks! Thanks, Stephen

• About "If.." in Scheme (plt-scheme)

- by Amit
I had a pretty simple requirement in my Scheme program to execute more than one statement, in the true condition of a 'if'. . So I write my code, something like this: (if (= 1 1) ((expression1) (expression2)) ; these 2 expressions are to be executed when the condition is true (expression3) ) Obviously, the above doesn't work, since I have unintentionally created a # procedure with # arguments. So, to get my work done, I simply put the above expressions in a new function and call it from there, in place of the expression1, expression2. It works. So, my point here is: is there any other conditional construct which may support my requirement here?

• How to consume REST in C# including PUT, POST and DELETE?

- by Earlz
Hello, I have a REST webservice that I need to consume in C#. I need support for more than just GET requests though. I need everything that is done by REST including GET, PUT, POST, and DELETE. What is the best way of interfacing with this? I do not see anything for HTTPRequest to be able to do POST or anything other than GET unless you construct your own headers(which I prefer not to) Is there some easy and lightweight way to fully consume REST webservices in C#?

• Ending a Rails 2 URL with an IP address causes routing error?

- by Dave Williams
I'm trying to construct URLs in the format http://servername/find/by/CRITERION/VALUE CRITERION is a finite set of strings, as is VALUE. Trouble is, VALUE needs to be an IP address in some situations, and it's causing me a routing error. Here's my route: map.find 'find/by/:criterion/:query', :controller => "find", :action => "by" And the error, from the Mongrel logs: Processing ApplicationController#index (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-05-07 10:20:32) [GET] ActionController::RoutingError (No route matches "/find/by/ip/1.2.3.4" with {:method=>:get}): Rendering rescues/layout (not_found) If I visit /find/by/foo/bar or /find/by/foo/1234 I don't have problems. I suspect the problem might be Rails' inference of MIME types based on periods in the URL, but I don't really know how I can disable that. I've tried passing a :defaults = {:format = :html} to the route but that causes Mongrel to fail to start entirely. Any help appreciated!

• What does double? mean in C# ?

- by Nikhil
Hi, While reading the code of the NUnit project's assert class, I came across this particular construct - public static void AreEqual(double expected, double? actual, double delta) { AssertDoublesAreEqual(expected, (double)actual, delta ,null, null); } In this function the second input parameter is entered as "double?". The interesting thing is that this code compiles without issue in VS2010 (c# 4.0). Anyone know why this is NOT throwing an error ? Why is "double?" considered a valid keyword and is there any special significance to the "?".

• Injecting tenant repositories with StructureMap in a multi-tenant MVC applicaiton

- by FreshCode
I'm implementing StructureMap in a multi-tenant ASP.NET MVC application to inject instances of my tenant repositories that retrieve data based on an ITenantContext interface. The Tenant in question is determined from RouteData in a base controller's OnActionExecuting. How do I tell StructureMap to construct TenantContext(tenantID); where tenantID is derived from my RouteData or some base controller property? Base Controller Given the following route: {tenant}/{controller}/{action}/{id} My base controller retrieves and stores the correct Tenant based on the {tenant} URL parameter. Using Tenant, a repository with an ITenantContext can be constructed to retrieve only data that is relevant to that tenant. Based on the other DI questions, could AbstractFactory be a solution?

• Properly using subprocess.PIPE in python?

- by Gordon Fontenot

I've been searching for 3 days, and can't find any reason online as to why this code isn't working, but it keeps giving me a blank result: import sys import os import subprocess def main(): the_file = "/Volumes/Footage/Acura/MDX/2001/Crash Test/01 Acura MDX Front Crash.mov" ffmpeg = subprocess.Popen(['/opt/local/bin/ffmpeg', '-i', the_file], stdout = subprocess.PIPE, ) grep = subprocess.Popen(['grep', 'Duration'], stdin = subprocess.PIPE, stdout = subprocess.PIPE, ) cut = subprocess.Popen(['cut', '-d', ' ', '-f', '4'], stdin = subprocess.PIPE, stdout = subprocess.PIPE, ) sed = subprocess.Popen(['sed', 's/,//'], stdin = subprocess.PIPE, stdout = subprocess.PIPE, ) duration = sed.communicate() print duration if __name__ == '__main__': main()

• PHP's SimpleXML not handling &#8217 ; properly

- by Matty
I'm parsing an RSS feed that has an ’ in it. SimpleXML turns this into a ’. What can I do to stop this? Just to answer some of the questions that have come up - I'm pulling an RSS feed using CURL. If I output this directly to the browser, the ’ displays as ’ which is what's expected. When I create a new SimpleXMLElement using this, (e.g. $xml = new SimpleXmlElement($raw_feed); and dump the $xml variable, every instance of ’ is replaced with ’. It appears that SimpleXML is having trouble with UTF-8 ampersand encoded characters. (The XML declaration specifies UTF-8.) I do have control over the feed after CURL has retrieved the feed before it's used to construct a SimpleXML element.

• regex to match trailing whitespace, but not lines which are entirely whitespace (indent placeholders

- by Tim
I've been trying to construct a ruby regex which matches trailing spaces - but not indentation placeholders - so I can gsub them out. I had this /\b[\t ]+$/ and it was working a treat until I realised it only works when the line ends are [a-zA-Z]. :-( So I evolved it into this /(?!^[\t ]+)[\t ]+$/ and it seems like it's getting better, but it still doesn't work properly. I've spent hours trying to get this to work to no avail. Please help. Here's some text test so it's easy to throw into Rubular, but the indent lines are getting stripped so it'll need a few spaces and/or tabs. Once lines 3 & 4 have spaces back in, it shouldn't match on lines 3-5, 7, 9. some test test some test test some other test (text) some other test (text) likely here{ dfdf } likely here{ dfdf } and this ; and this ; Alternatively, is there an simpler / more elegant way to do this?

What is the practice to handle such cases? Thanks

• Interpolating 2d data that is piecewise constant on faces

- by celil
I have an irregular mesh which is described by two variables - a faces array that stores the indices of the vertices that constitute each face, and a verts array that stores the coordinates of each vertex. I also have a function that is assumed to be piecewise constant over each face, and it is stored in the form of an array of values per face. I am looking for a way to construct a function f from this data. Something along the following lines: faces = [[0,1,2], [1,2,3], [2,3,4] ...] verts = [[0,0], [0,1], [1,0], [1,1],....] vals = [0.0, 1.0, 0.5, 3.0,....] f = interpolate(faces, verts, vals) f(0.2, 0.2) = 0.0 # point inside face [0,1,2] f(0.6, 0.6) = 1.0 # point inside face [1,2,3] The manual way of evaluating f(x,y) would be to find the corresponding face that the point x,y lies in, and return the value that is stored in that face. Is there a function that already implements this in scipy (or in matlab)?

• Constructing dynamic columns from parameters in Sybase

Do I need to necessarily use dynamic SQL to achieve this? Many thanks for your help. --Chapax

I can't get around this for quite sometime now. As I read along manuals and tutorials I'm getting more confused. I want an if statement with the following logic: if [ -n $drupal_version ] && [[ "$drupal_version" =~ DRUPAL-[6-9]-[1-9][1-9] ]]; then but I can't get it to work properly. When the script is evaluated using the "bash -x ... The request data from the client contains special character (& symbol) which is converted to & I tried to enclose it with CDATA as Some Name & Some Data which got converted to <![CDATA[Some Name & Some Data]]> The webservice client is generated from wsdl, so I couldn't use CDATA api to construct the request. I am able to set it as string value, and it is getting converted. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need any more information on this.

• ruby on rails named scope implementation

- by Engwan
From the book Agile Web Development With Rails class Order < ActiveRecord::Base named_scope :last_n_days, lambda { |days| {:conditions => ['updated < ?' , days] } } named_scope :checks, :conditions => {:pay_type => :check} end The statement orders = Orders.checks.last_n_days(7) will result to only one query to the database. How does rails implement this? I'm new to Ruby and I'm wondering if there's a special construct that allows this to happen. To be able to chain methods like that, the functions generated by named_scope must be returning themselves or an object than can be scoped further. But how does Ruby know that it is the last function call and that it should query the database now? I ask this because the statement above actually queries the database and not just returns an SQL statement that results from chaining.
