  I need to access an SQL Server that is on a machine behind a firewall and you access this machine using an ip address like 95.95.95.33:6930 (not the real ip address) ... But, you get my point that by accessing 95.95.95.33 on port 6930, the firewall routes the requests to that particular machine ... My question is ... How do you construct a connection string to access the machine at address 95.95.95.33:6930 and then further access the SQL Server on port 1433 or maybe a different port like 8484 ??? Thanks Mike

• Customized sorting on DataTable in C#?

  This is a C# Winform question. I have a DataGridView which is bounded to a DataTable. I construct the DataTable myself, which several DataColumn instances. When the DataTable is bound to the DataGridView, by default, every column is sortable by clicking the headers of the DataGridView. But the sorting behavior is something "by default". It seems that it is sorted by string. This is true even if I put this as my code: DataColumn dc = new DataColumn("MyObjectColumn", typeof(MyObject)); And MyObject has overriden ToString() and has implemented the IComparable interface. That means even if I have told the DataTable how to sort the special column with the implementation of IComparable interface, DataGridView still doesn't do it the way I expect. So how can I let DataTable sort data in the way I want? Thanks for the answers.

• Using a UIPickerView to make a CoreData Relationship

  Okay, so I have a fairly simple application set up. I have two different CoreData Entities, Games and Platforms, each have one attribute: name, and they have a one-to-many relationship between them. Platforms are populated on the first launch of the application, and will never change as a result of user input. I'm working on my Add view to let the user add new games to their personal database, and each game should select from a platform. The add view itself is a grouped table view with static custom cells. Tapping the platform cell should advance the user to another view to select the platform. My thought is that UIPickerView seems like a logical choice for the control, since the Platform list is static, but I'm not sure how to use it with CoreData. Even if I construct a fetch request to get the Platform objects and extract the strings out, how do I go about linking the new Game object to the original Platform object?

• iPhone link to map directions using string "current location" not lat and lng for saddr

  I know there are numerous questions about how to construct a sharedApplication link to the maps app specifying the start and end address with coordinates. I've got that working no problem. Has anyone found a way to link with a source address generically specified as "current location". I ask because the scenario I'm working on having Core Location or a UIMapView would only be necessary in order to determine the user location prior to handing off to the map app where the user locating would seem to just happen again. I've tried throwing UTF8'd "Current Location" and "[Current Location]" into the saddr parameter which amusingly starts from Current Montana. I've also tried simply excluding the saddr param. I know this is often tread territory but this particular situation wasn't covered by anything I found searching here or on mapki. Before I add the core location code I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a more limited way to tackle this. Thanks

• Java Future and infinite computation

  I'm trying to optimize an (infinite) computation algorithm. I have an infinte Sum to calculate ( Summ_{n- infinity} (....) ) My idea was to create several threads using the Future < construct, then combine the intermediate results together. My problem hoewer is that I need a certain precision. So I need to constantly calculate the current result while other threads keep calculating. My question is: Is there some sort of result queue where each finished thread can put its results in, while a main thread can receive those results and then either lets the computation continues or terminate the whole ExecutorService? • Robust C# Plugin System

  I am writing a tool which communicates with more than one version control system, either subversion or clearcase, and has various utilities which can be plugged into it. I though of using MEF to load the version control providers, and utiilities, both of which have interfaces definied for them. I've started to use MEF for this. But if loading any plugin fails (on half my clients machines, the ClearCase COM bindings won't be present, so loading will fail, on the other half SVN won't be installed, so the SVN plugin won't load) though, MEF throws an exception and no plugin works; I was hoping that the rest of the plugins would load. [ImportMany(AllowRecomposition = true)] public IEnumerable<IVersionControl> RegisteredProviders { get; private set; } Instead, if any providers fail to construct themselves, then RegisteredProviders is null. Is there a simple way of configuring MEF to achieve this (reporting exceptions but loading other instances), or do I have to change the interface to delay their intialisation failure until after MEF has instantiated the objects?

My application uses some files from the jar (default) or from a filesystem directory specified at runtime (user input). • Marshal a list of objects from VB6 to C#

  I have a development which requires the passing of objects between a VB6 application and a C# class library. The objects are defined in the C# class library and are used as parameters for methods exposed by other classes in the same library. The objects all contain simple string/numeric properties and so marshaling has been relatively painless. We now have a requirement to pass an object which contains a list of other objects. If I was coding this in VB6 I might have a class containing a collection as a member variable. In C# I might have a class with a List member variable. Is it possible to construct a C# class in such a way that the VB6 application could populate this inner list and marshal it successfully? I don't have a lot of experience here but I would guess Id have to use an array of Object types.

  So, the modern concept of the buddy list: Let's say we have a table called Person. Now, that Person needs to have many buddies (of which each buddy is also in the person class). The most obvious way to construct a relationship would be through a join table. i.e. buddyID person1_id person2_id 0 1 2 1 3 6 But, when a user wants to see their buddy list, the program would have to check the column 'person1_id' and 'person2_id' to find all of their buddies. Is this the appropriate way to implement this kind of table, or would it be better to add the record twice.. i.e. buddyID person1_id person2_id 0 1 2 1 2 1 So that only one column has to be searched. • Should I use uint in C# for values that can't be negative?

  I have just tried implementing a class where numerous length/count properties, etc. are uint instead of int. However, while doing so I noticed that it's actually painful to do so, like as if no one actually wants to do that. Nearly everything that hands out an integral type returns an int, therefore requiring casts in several points. I wanted to construct a StringBuffer with its buffer length defaulted to one of the fields in that class. Requires a cast too. So I wondered whether I should just revert to int here. I'm certainly not using the entire range anyway. I just thought since what I'm dealing with there simply can't be negative (if it was, it'd be an error) it'd be a nice idea to actually use uint. P.S.: I saw this question and this at least explains why the framework itself always uses int but even in own code it's actually cumbersome to stick to uint which makes me think it apparently isn't really wanted.

• 2D Spaceship movement math

  Hi, I'm new here. I'm trying to make a top-down spaceship game and I want the movement to somewhat realistic. 360 degrees with inertia, gravity, etc. My problem is I can make the ship move 360 with inertia with no problem, but what I need to do is impose a limit for how fast the engines can go while not limiting other forces pushing/pulling the ship. So, if the engines speed is a maximum of 500 and the ship is going 1000 from a gravity well, the ship is not going to go 1500 when it's engines are on, but if is pointing away from the angle is going then it could slow down. For what it's worth, I'm using Construct (www.scirra.com), and all I need is the math of it. Thanks for any help, I'm going bald from trying to figure this out.

This task is silly, but it'll help me understand how to recurse through a list and remove certain elements. I've looked all over for a tutorial that goes a little further than simply how to construct a class (usually Animal) then extend the class and have a Method do something (Dog alert('Bark');). I have created a class that I want a user to be able to instantiate (is that the right word)? For example the first stage in my program is for the user to give the class a name, and then start to populate the various variables in the class. When they've done that they may do it again many times. So if: var className = new MyObject(); How do I dynamically create the name of the new object className and then refer to it later in the code?

  I am having a problem with my current RESTful api design. What I have is a REST api which is consumed by Django web-server, which renders the HTML templates. REST api > Django webserver > HTML The problem I am encountering is that I have to reconstruct all the URLS like mysite.com/main/cities/<id>/streets/ into equivalent rest api urls on my web-server layer: api.com/cities/<id>/streets/ Thus I have a lot of mapping back and forth, but as far as I know REST says that the client (in this case my web-server) should NOT need to know how to re-construct the urls. Can REST be used for such a setup and how? Or is it only viable for Server-Client architecture. Thanks
