  • Multiplication for MVP matrices: Any benefits to doing so within the vertex shader?

    I'd like to understand under what circumstances (if any) it is worth doing MVP matrix multiplication inside a vertex shader. The vertex shader is run once per vertex, and a single mesh typically contains many vertices. All MVP inputs remain the same for each vertex in the vertex batch relating to a given draw call (model). Surely then, you're always better off keeping the multiplications in the client code, such that you pass in the whole MVP precalculated as a uniform? (avoiding redundant ops between individual vertices)

  • What are pros and cons of native checkout for an ecommerce app (mobile)?

Would request the community to share some guidelines.. is there a security concern using native checkout ? Are Google Wallet and Paypal checkouts worth trying on native ?     So I've recently been getting into front-end web development from an embedded systems background and have always thought Javascript/HTML/CSS are not only the de-facto standards but the ONLY tools for the job, similar to what C is for embedded systems. Recently, I've stumbled upon things like Dreamweaver, JSP, facelets, and GWT. While researching these to find out if they are worth learning, I can't get over the idea of why someone wouldn't just use Javascript/HTML/CSS instead. Why deviate from the defacto standards?

  • Can I develop a game using C++ and deploy to XBOX 360?

    I'm a C# developer and an enthusiast of XNA, but I'm really disappointed with the game engines available for XNA. I was using Torque X, which is really good, but GarageGames no longer supports Torque X for XNA 4.1. I searched for other engines, but only the sunburn was worth it and would have to pay - I already spent money with Torque. Based on this, I'm thinking about starting to develop in C++. Can I develop with some C++ engines and deploy to XBox 360?

  • What are the advantages of storing xml in a relational database?

    I was poking around the AdventureWorks database today and I noticed that a number of tables (HumanResources.JobCandidate and Sales.Individual for example) have a column which is storing xml data. What I would to know is, what is the advantage of storing basically a database table row's worth of data in another table's column? Doesn't this make it difficult to query off of this information? Or is the assumption that the data won't need to be queried and just needs to be stored?

  • Is there a more efficient way to filter large arrays than preg_match()?

    I have a log that our web application builds. Each month it contains around 16,000 entries of a string with about the average sentence worth of text. To filter/search through these in our admin panel the script uses preg_match() but this seems to be taking ages and timing out on the 30sec limit. I have isolated that it is indeed the preg_match() that causes the time out. Is there a more efficient way to search through values in a large array for a users input?
