• Good software to record desktop/screen operations [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What is the best software for desktop recording? Hi superuser's. I would like to record some tasks in a program (i want to make a video where i will be explaining how to use a particular program) and i haven't found a good software to do it yet... I have just tested camStudio but when i hit the Record Button the computer starts working very slowly (even when recording in a small area... so i wouldn't imagine how slow it will run if recording full screen). So i want you to recommend me some good software to record the screen on a fast way... Thanks a lot. Juan

• Remote desktop session ends abruptly with a "protocol error"

  Intermittently we get a problem where a remote desktop session will get disconnected with the error message “Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again.” We are getting this with one server only which is running Windows Server 2008, connecting with Windows 7 clients. The session itself stays running, you just get disconnected, and you can try and reconnect. Sometimes you get in for a while then it will kick you out. We are connecting from Windows 7 clients. We have tried connecting using Cord on a Mac and this works fine, so it's not like the session itself is corrupted. One problem is that there are some critical applications running under the session (I know, let's not discuss the idiocy of that), so we cannot reset the session in any way during the working day – so any diagnostics must have minimum impact.   My home network consists of a couple Windows XP machines and a Windows 7 box. One of the Windows XP boxes is like a shared server accessed via Remote Desktop. I have an account on there and my gf has another. Previously I was able to save RDC shortcuts to this shared server including credentials. So in order to access the server from a computer on the network, I just needed to open the shortcut. I thus would have two shortcuts, one for my account and one for my gf's. In Windows 7, it seems to store credentials for a box based on machine name. I.e. I can only store one set of credentials per machine name. This seems incredibly stupid so my question is: In Windows 7, is there some way to have RDC shortcuts that use different credentials to login to the same target box?

• hyper-v server 2003 instance using internet connection sharing disconnects remote desktop to hyper-v host

  I have a windows server 2003 R2 instance running in a hyper-v instance on windows 8. I have setup an internal switch that uses internet connection sharing to get out to the internet. It works fine except for when I try to do windows update on the server 2003 instance it disconnects my remote desktop session to the windows 8 hyper-v host. When I reconnect it says windows update failed. I know that sounds crazy but I have tested it over and over again. If I change the instance to use my external switch (I have an external switch defined on another network adapter) windows update works fine.

  I have two Mac notebooks at home, I have assigned them static private IPs. I have also set my router to a DynDNS address, which updates everytime my router gets a new public IP. I have enabled Screen Sharing on both notebooks. I can successfully goto my router webpage using the DynDNS address. I understand I need to port-forward to get Screen Sharing to work from outside. Lets assume, notebooks have private IP 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 I am kind of lost here, would appreciate some help (I need to be able remote desktop to both notebooks)

I need to connect via remote desktop to a Windows XP machine (logging out the current user), do some stuff, and then logout the rdesktop session and having a user X which log in (from the front-end I mean). I try to be clearer: I've some windows XP machines which offers some interactive informations in public places. Try reconnecting to the Windows-based computer, or contact our administrator. I have downloaded CoRD, and for some reason, that works okay. I can also connect from a Windows 7 running on VMWare Fusion. On Windows 7, I use SonicWall Global VPN Client, and on the Mac, I use VPN tracker, if that is related... What's going on?

  I have another question posted in regards to the practicality of whitelisting. In this question I'm simply looking for an frequently updated list of top known used Desktop web browsers to use as part of my whitelist. I'm not trying to target any specific OS so please show one, show all. The list of browsers for desktops isn't exploding, but it does grow. I've only recently been made aware of other browsers that have multiple rendering engines. I'm not always on top of the text based browsers found out there either. I'm aware of the mobile browser platform and there is an active list used with regular expression for identification purposes that I will use as well as whatever I can find for the desktop platforms.

  I want to mount iso files without root permission by fuseiso, and this is how to mount a iso file: fuseiso -p '/path/to/isofilename' '/media/isofilename' , so I make a .desktop file followed Freedesktop Standard (The Exec key) as bellow: #!/usr/bin/env xdg-open [Desktop Entry] Name=Mount ISO image Name[zh_TW]=??????? Exec=fuseiso -p %U "/media/$(basename %U)" Terminal=false MimeType=application/x-cd-image , but it failed. I think it failed because of $(basename %U), if it is changed to a fixed string, the iso file can be mounted. How can I solve this problem?

  I am attempting to setup a RD Gateway for a client. When I first set it up I noticed that IIS did not have the 'Defualt Web Site' so I created it and assigned it an id of 1 and set the bindings to port 80 and 443. I then re installed the RD Gateway role with the idea that it would then configure IIS correctly. It did not. How would I go about making sure a re install of the Remote Desktop Gateway role configures IIS correctly? I cannot re install IIS as there is a site that is already on there that I cannot take down

  Hi everyone, I have a linksys wrt54g router and a windows 7 box at home I'd like to be able to remote desktop into from work. • Remote desktop solution for controlling a remote OS X machine in Linux

  The "server" (the host I'm trying to connect to) is Snow Leopard. The "client" is Ubuntu 10.04. I want something like a remote desktop server running on OS X that I can connect to and control from the Linux machine. Something cheap or free would be best. Something that always runs on the OS X machine so that I never have to attach a monitor or a keyboard. I don't want to use VNC, because, well, VNC sucks over this network. Any ideas?

• Rolling desktop recorder?

  I want a piece of software that will constantly record what I'm doing on my desktop, discarding footage that's over [30] seconds old. Its recording would be a rolling one. The idea is that I can somehow hit a button and see "what just happened". I don't want to have to babysit it. That is, I don't want a piece of software designed for screencasting (which I'm not trying to do). My bias against that is based on my (maybe incorrect?) assumption that I'd regularly have to start/stop the recording throughout the day. The idea is that this piece of software would consume fewer resources (than a screencast recorder) on my box, as it's only keeping a very limited amount of footage in memory (and low quality would even be acceptable), because it's discarding frames fairly quickly after they're captured. Where can I find a piece of software with features like this?

• External stereo receiver and speakers on desktop PC work during test but no other time

  I have a desktop PC running Windows 7. I have connected an external stereo receiver and speakers to it and everything works fine when I test it in the Realtek Audio Sound through the control panel. However, when I play a video or an audio CD, the stereo speakers do not work. I have line in, line out, and speakers connected to the receiver. I have been through the configure speakers portion also. Is there someplace else I need to configure?

• Windows sometimes minimizes game and shows the desktop?

  For some reason, every once in a while when I'm playing a full-screen game in Windows 7, the game will minimize and focus will be given to the Desktop. I don't know what does this because no other problem appears to activate (nothing new in the taskbar or system tray appears). This occurs in a variety of games, from a variety of publishers, so it's definitely not the game that's having the problem. When this occurs, I can simply click on the game to go back to it, but it's obviously still quite annoying. Anyone know what's going on here? Is this a common occurrence with a simple fix?   This is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I use the command mstsc to establish a Remote Desktop connction to a remote server. The login window shows up, and while I'm entering the password the system almost freezes. Each character of the password takes 3 or 4 seconds to be accepted, and all other opened programs are not accessible. This behavior tends to happen only the first time I use mstsc. If I used it again moments later, everything is normal. Whar can be the cause of this problem?

• Windows Desktop Randomly Switches Resolution

  Once per log in a specific account, Windows XP is switching to 800x600 and 8 (looks like) bit color. It then after a few seconds switches back to the regular settings. This, so far, has only happened, once per log in session but it is becoming very annoying for the end user. :P Any ideas? I've tried turning off hardware acceleration as well as getting rid of her picture desktop wallpaper but nothing has made a difference. Thanks for any help!

• Is it possible to make the desktop background transparent or otherwise hidden?

  I'm running Ubuntu in a virtual machine via VirtualBox. I have the seamless mode turned on, which is pretty cool. However, if I move an Ubuntu window around quickly, I can see the redraw of the ubuntu background quickly before it's hidden by VirtualBox again. This isn't a huge deal, but I'd like to fix it, if possible. I see two possible options that don't involve changing VirtualBox code: 1. Make the Ubuntu desktop transparent 2. Make the Ubuntu desktop hidden entirely Is it possible to do either? I know that Compiz Fusion has/had a feature to do this for their cube effects, but I don't think that I can run this on the VM. And, even if I could, I don't want to run those services for this one small feature.

• Remote desktop pressing Windows key randomly

  When I'm using remote desktop at work from one specific PC it has a quirk which is really quite irritating. I'll be typing away and suddenly the Windows key will be pressed, things start minimising, explorer launches, workstation gets locked (but it locks the remote workstation, so I have that wallpaper in the background, rather than the wallpaper from the local machine as I would expect). I've swapped keyboards, even though it didn't seem to be related to hardware and it made no difference. Done some internet digging and found someone saying it's related to using windows-l to lock the workstation. I've tried to stop myself using that shortcut to see if it helps and have failed miserably :D It's happening to at least one other user remote desktopping from the same machine to a different PC. Reinstalling isn't really an option (I don't admin the PC or I would have tried it, grr), although I could probably get it done if it would definitely resolve the problem. Any ideas?

Symptoms: From a domain-member Windows 7 Client: Domain credentials to a domain controller = success Domain credentials to a member server (by hostname or FQDN) = success Domain credentials to a member server (by IP) = fail Local credentials to a member server (by either) = success From a non-domain-member Windows 7 Client: Domain credentials to a domain controller = success Domain credentials to a member server = fail Local credentials to a member server = success (Identical behavior from a Mac RDC 2.1 client) Server Configuration Details: Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter w/ SP1 The domain in question is a subdomain of a Windows 2008 domain (forest root). Root has DCs in both Site A and Site B, subdomain only has DCs in Site B. RDP is operating normally on all root member-servers and DCs. No remote desktop settings are defined by GPOs. Network level authentication is enabled; all clients are compatible and the certificate exchange/SSL handshake completes successfully. Not catching any errors in netlogon log.

  Sometimes I work from home and I use either of these 2 methods: Teamviewer VPN + Remote desktop When I connect with VPN I am however unable to browse any websites on my own computer, which can be very inconvenient when I am basically waiting an hour for somebody else to finish his job to do a 5 minute job. It would be nice if I could still continue browsing. A solution for this is Teamviewer. With Teamviewer I can manage the other computer, without suffering the restrictions of using the VPN. Everybody in the working area however, can see me using my computer remotely and this is not a good situation either, especially during work hours. I would like a solution that allows me to continue browsing normally and still control my remote workstation, without other people seeing every move I make on the workstation.

  I have just setup a windows 2003 server running in hyper-V. When I log in via Hyper-V it works fine. When I try to login via remote desktop I get a bad user name or password error. I have: Disabled the firewall Enabled remote connections Before I did the above I did not get to the login screen. I can ping the ip address of the image. I am trying to login as Administrator. Anyone have an idea about how to fix this? Edit I have now managed to fix this by changing the password to something without special characters. Strange thing is the I could not see any problems with the passord, had tried typing it into the user name field to check it.
