  • disable mystery programs running at startup

    Hi and sorry for the ambiguous title... I have a few programs that should run at startup which are 'properly' configured to do so via adding shortcuts to the startup directory: C:\Users\[me]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup However I have (at least) 4 programs which are also starting up, which I can't find where they are configured or how to disable them. I have tried to find them in the above folder, as well as in the 'startup' section of 'msconfig'. The programs include: Skype (for which I have disabled 'start when windows starts' in its options) Thunderbird (for which I cannot find any option to run-at-startup) Task manager (as above) and some anonymous call to javaw (can't find any more details but it fails anyway) The other strange thing is that it seems like these (at least skype and thunderbird) are running 'as administrator' ... i have deduced this because I am unable to use the file-drag-and-drop feature in both (which is a known problem when running 'as administrator'). If someone could guide me to where these extra programs are configured to run-at-startup I would be very greatful! ps. my user account has the administrator role. EDIT: preferrably without another 3rd party tool...

  • Disk is spinning down each minute, unable to disable it

    I played with spindown and APM settings of my Samsung discs and now they spin down every minute. I want to disable it, but it seems it does not accept any of the spindown time or APM values. Nothing works, it's all the same. Please help what values should be proper for it. It was too aggressive, I turned off disc tuning and it seems they are no longer spinning down.

    OK I run a streaming website and my CMS is giving me an error when uploading videos "Failed To Find Flength File" ok so I did some research. The answer I got from the coder was below. I did do all that, but the only thing I could not do is turn off what he refers to as performance cache, talked about in the last sentence... I am on a Cent OS Assuming the script is set up properly, you are probably dealing with some kind of write-caching. Some servers perform write-caching which prevents writing out the flength file or the entire CGITemp file during the upload. The flength file or the CGITemp file do not actually hit the disk until the upload is complete, making it worthless for reporting on progress during the upload. This may be fixed using a .htaccess file assuming your host supports them. Here is a link to an excellent tutorial on using .htaccess files. I strongly recommend giving it a quick read before attempting to install your own .htaccess file. 1. A mod_security module for Apache. To fix it just create a file called .htaccess (that's a period followed by "htaccess") and put the following lines in that file. Upload the file into the directory where the Uber-Uploader CGI ".pl" scripts resides, or in some directory above it (like your server's DOCUMENT_ROOT, i.e. the top-level of your webspace). htaccess files must be uploaded as ASCII mode, not BINARY. You may need to CHMOD the htaccess file to 644 or (RW-R--R--). # Turn off mod_security filtering. SecFilterEngine Off # The below probably isn't needed, # but better safe than sorry. SecFilterScanPOST Off If the above method does not work, try putting the following lines into the file SetEnvIfNoCase Content-Type \ "^multipart/form-data;" "MODSEC_NOPOSTBUFFERING=Do not buffer file uploads" mod_gzip_on No 2. "Performance Cache" enabled on OS X SERVER. If you're running OS X Server and the progress bar isn't working, it could be because of "performance caching." Apparently if ANY of your hosted sites are using performance caching, then by default, all sites (domains) will attempt to. The fix then is to disable the performance cache on all hosted sites.

Just don't want any visible changes. The processing can be of 10-15 minutes.I want to disable the SAVE button till process ends and once process completes, the SAVE button should be enabled. I tried the following but couldnot solve the problem: 1)Client Side Scripting: I called a java script on client clik of button and set the disable property to true.How ever, server side saveButton_Click event is not called because of disabling the button on client side. 2)Disabling in saveButton_Click method on server side: In this case, as the call of saveButton_Click already happend and requested is sent to server,the client side is as it without any difference until the request is processed.     Hi I have been given access to a CentOS5 machine by my client for their new site which uses Zend Framework. phpinfo() states in Configure Command that PDO is disabled ('--disable-pdo'). How can enable it? Do I need to recompile PHP5 to enable it? I have tried adding 'extension=pdo.so' in php.ini and restarting Apache, but this didn't work. It would also be nice to understand what '--disable-pdo' actaully means, does it mean it's not compiled into PHP or does it mean its just not enabled? Thanks for your time

    My Silverlight4 app is hosted in ASP.NET MVC 2 web application. I do web request through HttpWebRequest class but it gives back a result previously cached. How to disable this caching behavior? There are some links which talks about HttpWebRequest in .NET but Silverlight HttpWebrequest is different. Someone suggested to add unique dummy query string on every web request, but I'd prefer more elegant solution. I also tried the following, but it didn't work: _myHttpWebRequest.BeginGetRequestStream(new AsyncCallback(BeginRequest), new Guid()); In fact, by setting browser history settings it is possible to disable caching. Let me elaborate this more : Lets say I have a div or button which has a subscriber to its onclick event. To prevent the double click when the the methods are doing some ajax things, these are the some of the ways we can do : Disable the button till the method finishes its job Unbind till the methods finishes its job and then bind it again. Use some kind of flagging system like boolean so it will prevent method from working more than once. So is there any other ways, maybe some javascript tricks or jQuery tricks which is more efficient and better practice. Thanks in advance.

    I am using nicEdit editor and i have added my own custom image resizing script to it. But i want to disable the default _moz_resizing that appears in firefox. I wanted to have finer control over the image being resized. ( Eg: Allow only the image to resize and inherit the width of the parent container. ) So i wrote a custom script. But since firefox has its own image resizing control (_moz_resizing) how do i disable it? If there is no way to do so, i have a very simple workaround where i browser detect firefox and turn off my custom script and use the _moz_resizing instead. But i won't have fine grained control and will have to rely on there being now browser bugs in firefox. :(

I created the following function: $("#loginLink, #registerLink") .click(function () { $('#loginLink').prop('disabled', true); $('#registerLink').prop('disabled', true); dialog(this); }); It calls the dialog correctly but doesn't disable the links and if I click the buttons more than once it calls up more than one dialog box. Is there something I am doing wrong? I can't see why it would not work.

The expression that has to be calculated, is in an EditText, because I want users can add numbers or functions also in the middle of the expression, so with the EditText I have the cursor.     From time to time I need to run a full build of the entire tool chain for our software on my development machine. To save on power my I've got my dev machine set to go sleep after 20 minutes of inactivity. Building the full tool chain can take up to an hour and I'll often just go to lunch. However, if I forget to disable sleep I can return to a sleeping machine with the build only partially complete. What I'm looking for is a way to automatically disable sleep while MSBuild is running. Does anyone know of a simple way of doing this?
