  • Disable CTRL + ALT + [LETTER] to produce accented variations

    After an unknown config change, CTRL + ALT + [LETTER] has started producing common accented versions of [LETTER]. I'm not a big fan of this arrangement, seeing as I've memorized all my favourite ALT + [NUMPAD SEQUENCE] references and was used to using CTRL + ALT + [LETTER] for various other application-specific commands in my text editor. The prominent result from my searching suggests that this has something to do with a switch to an 'international keyboard', and says this can be removed in the control panel or toggled by hitting ALT + SHIFT, but I can't get my system to confirm this, and the solutions (or close approximations thereof) don't work. Specifically, I've been to Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Language\Advanced settings and switched the override for default input method from 'language list' to English and I've been to Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Language\Language options and made sure that I only have my one input method (UK). Other than that I'm not quite sure where to look. Any ideas?

  • Disable iPhone Yahoo contacts sync

    Every time I plug in my iPhone, iTunes pops up a dialog asking for sync with Yahoo contacts. after I cancel, it pops up again, for 4-5 more times. But the 'Sync Yahoo!Address Book contacts' option is disabled in iTunes and I definitely don't want this to happen. If there any way to tell iTunes to stop trying to sync with Yahoo?

    I'm writing a user manual to a card game and there is a looot of linked images. Open Office is working so slow because every time I flip to a page with linked images it starts to update them. Is it possible to tell Open Office to NOT update the links until I tell it to do so? I would like it to display the same snapshot it showed the last time I initiated link update.     Loosely related to this question Network Share causing Cygwin to run slowly after 'ls', I'd like to write a little batch file that I can execute to disconnect the host from any network shares and subsequently another batch file to reconnect. Ideally, this would be something that I can execute from a PuTTY terminal, SSHed into the box running cygwin. I'm pretty sure the batch files can be written easily, but I don't know about executing them from a PuTTY terminal. Regardless, I'd still like the batchfiles anyways. For the sake of simplicity my process would be: Log into server via PuTTY Run batch files to disconnect shares Do what I need to do Run batch files to reconnect shares Exit session, closing PuTTY

    So recently my computer started turning my screen monitors off after a while without activity, if I move the mouse or hit the keyboard they turn back on. I just want them to stay on. My System is windows 8.1 64 bit, I have 2 screens with mini display port and 1 television with hdmi which often is in regular television mode when this issue happens.     Behavior: Load Safari 5.0 on mac. Press command+f to search for some text. Type something, and find it on the page. Hit esc to cancel the search. Irritatingly, get word completion menu rather than canceling. Is there any way to make esc cancel the search, like it used to with Safari 4.0, instead of pulling up a word completion dialog? It's very annoying. Failing that, what's the best way to cancel the search with the keyboard? Note: this also happens in any text field, the search box, the location bar etc.

  • HP LaserJet 1515: Disable "refill" warning

    I have a HP LaserJet 1515 connected to a Windows 7 PC. The Magenta cartridge is empty; the printer shows a warning to that effect, and won't let me print even black-and-white documents any more. I can't turn the warning off manually using the printer's small console: When I try to enter any menu, the display says "Menu access disabled". I have no idea why. There is a setting to override the warning, but it can't be changed using the Network interface in the browser (Although it is there on the status page) According to the manual,the HP printing tool is supposed to offer a switch for this, but it won't install on my Windows 7. It just rumbles about for half an hour, to magnificently exit with an "unknown error" requiring a reboot. On second look, the problem seems to be that Windows 7 just isn't supported. There is no download link for the tool when you specify Windows 7 as your OS. I just want to print a black-and-white-document on a printer whose black cartridge is still 65% full. Is this indeed impossible? On second thought, I'm cross-posting this on the HP support forum. I'll update here if anything comes up.

    Somehow after upgrading to 12.04, my virtual machines always boot with an attempt to boot from the network first. See this: while I don't have any PXE configuration set: I've tried: to disable SPICE, by changing the emulator to /usr/bin/kvm from /usr/bin/kvm-spice by editing the XML. Ctrl+B to configure the iPXE, but it doesn't let disable this as a boot option. setting another type of NIC - not an option, I need virtio for performance reasons. However, e1000e doesn't work either. removing the NIC: works. However, I need network. Googling around. Hard. Lots of result is about failing configured PXE boots. Not a big issue, but it increases boot times by 50-100% here (booting from SSD), so it's relatively long and annoys me. How can I disable this and boot from virtual hard disk directly?

    This is related to the issue discussed in this question. Summary: the mouse freezes when operating on battery since it is autosuspended after a certain time and needs more time to wake up. Disabling usb-autosuspend for the mouse's receiver in powertop is a temporary solution but does not survive a reboot. How can I permanently disable the usb autosuspend for only one specific device? A solution that does not involve installing additional packages is preferred (after all, I want to disable something) but not required. Removing powertop (which seems to be a solution for some) is not what I want - I like poertop... And installing laptop-mode-tools to disable usb_autosuspend alltogether is not what I want, either, thus the new question. Also: will this affect the battery of my notebook? The logitech unifying receiver for the mouse stays connected all the time, so if that prevents the autosuspend from happening for all devices that would probably be bad.

    Is there any way to disable the auto-indent Xcode performs to align colons when breaking up a long method name into multiple lines?     Hi, I needed to include in my project but there is a line, in glut.h which is #pragma message("Note: including lib: glut32.lib\n") It is really annoying and I want to get rid of it when compiling. I could just remove the line in my glut.h but I want my fix to be independent of the glut.h. I have tried setting #pragma warnings to show only critical info, and I have also tried #pragma message disable but nothing worked. Any help?

I have this trivial setup: class SuperviseeAdmin(admin.TabularInline): model = Supervisee class SupervisorAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): inlines = [SuperviseeAdmin] admin.site.register(Supervisor, SupervisorAdmin) I have tried adding a has_change_permission function to SuperviseeAdmin that returns False unconditionally, but it had no effect. I have tried setting actions = None in SuperviseeAdmin but it had no effect. What might I be overlooking that could get this to work?

    Hi all, I want to prevent mysql from starting in ubuntu 10.04 I have used update-rc.d -f mysql remove and confirmed that there is no link to the /etc/inid.d/mysql script from any of the rc?.d directories. I also ran sysv-rc-conf and it shows me that mysql is being called as part of the rc.d scripts. It is still starting on boot. How do I disable it? Regards, Bryan

    I'm checking if it would be possible to implement a GUI using HTML through PyQT and WebKit. One of the problem is that using the mouse you can select the text making up the interface. Can this behaviour be disabled? Also, the mouse pointer changes to an insertion caret while over the selectable text. I would like to disable this, without disabling the hand mouse pointer which appears when over a clickable link.
