  • Oracle Secure Global Desktop - Business Continuity During Snowstorm!

    Capgemini, one of the world's largest management consulting, outsourcing and professional services companies, is an Oracle Secure Global Desktop customer and uses it to provide secure, remote access to 1) corporate applications centralized in the datacenter and 2) desktops hosted on Oracle VDI. Earlier this month, one of Capgemini's government customers in Holland were advised to avoid traveling to work, due to a heavy snowstorm. This resulted in a lot of employees working from home. Thankfully due to their deployment of the Oracle Secure Global Desktop gateway, employees were able to easily access their corporate applications and desktops from home and anywhere outside of their office. Capgemini reports that during the days of the snowstorm, a record number of users leveraged Oracle Secure Global Desktop (servers and gateway). Despite this record usage, Oracle Secure Global Desktop remained perfectly stable and allowed users to seamlessly access their applications and desktops. This is a great example of how Oracle Secure Global Desktop allows employee productivity and business continuity even during severe weather conditions such as snowstorms.   • Application starts as Terminal but not as a Desktop entry

    I just installed SQL Anywhere 12 and can start Sybase Central from the terminal with the command line below without errors: /opt/sqlanywhere12/bin32/scjview However, when I try to start it from a desktop entry I am receiving two error messages that could be something incorrectly defined in the desktop below: #!/usr/bin/env xdg-open [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Type=Application Terminal=false Icon[en_US]=gnome-panel-launcher Name[en_US]=Sybase Central Exec=/opt/sqlanywhere12/bin32/scjview Comment[en_US]= Name=Sybase Central Comment= Icon=gnome-panel-launcher Here are the error messages: (unable to post the error images) cannot find libsyblib610_r.so cannot find libulscutil12.so Since the application can be successfully started from a terminal window I was wondering how I could have it setup as a desktop entry as well.

  • Remote Desktop between Ubuntu Machines

    My desktop and my laptop are connected to the same router. I want to be able to remote login from my laptop to my desktop. Laptop is 12.04 and desktop is 12.10. I tried putting xrdp on my desktop, but remmina wouldn't work with it. I also tried the default screen-sharing, but it was very slow. Also tried rdesktop but it was very slow. I am on 12.10, FreeNX looks like a good option but they don't have a 12.10 release. And when I tried to install the 12.04 release, I got errors about dependencies missing. How can I get local-feeling remote login speeds?

  • Somehow Google considers a properly 301'd URL as 200 and is still indexing the new content in old page?

    We redirected all the old URL's to new ones properly using htaccess. The problem is Google, somehow is still finding content in the old page(which it shouldn't) and stores it in the cache rather than the new URL. For eg: Old Page- http://www.natures-energies.com/iching.htm New Page- http://www.natures-energies.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=760 If you type the old URL into the browser it redirects If you fetch the old URL as Googlebot in the webmaster tools the header says 301/permanently redirected. If I try to crawl as any other bot it still says 301 redirected. Even if you click the old link in Google it redirects to the new URL. Only in its cache it shows the old URL and moreover it shows the new content in it! I am stumped on how Google manages to grab the new content and puts in the old URL instead of the new one! One more interesting thing is that if I try a cache for the new page it shows the cache of the new content with old URL! Any help would be appreciated. I am at end of my wits. I think i have tried almost everything. Is there anything that I'm missing to see? You can use this search to find the old url's.   • Desktop empty under Ubuntu 12.04

    My problem is that my desktop is empty -- there are no files or directories in it. The launcher on the left and the menu at the top are both ok. But, after a recent upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10, everything in my Desktop was emptied. I do have files in my ~/Desktop directory, which is what I want displayed. In ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs, I also have XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop/". Is there something else I should be looking for? I actually have another Ubuntu machine and I don't have the same problem there after upgrading. So, I don't think this is a bug with 12.10 but just some setting (a package, etc.) that was set in one machine but not the other. Oh, I am not sure if this is related to nautilus, but the two machines have the same nautilus-related packages installed... Any help would be appreciated!

  • Desktop not showing after playing with compiz

    Having successfully installed Ubuntu 11.04 I decided to look into improving look and feel of the unity desktop. I could find no option to introduce any nice effects with the standard install, but a google session suggested Compiz would do the job. I installed this and selected the "Wobbly windows" option and this worked fine. After a while I thought I'd try some of the other available effects (can't remember which but may have been cube desktop) but this resulted in no windows showing at all. I now have just blank wall paper with no icons or menus. There are no error messages and right clicking the desktop produces a small context menu but nothing else. Rebooting brings me back to a blank desktop with just wallpaper. I do not know where to start.

  • Implementing Google Search Appliance results into website

    I’m interested to hear peoples preferred methods or approaches to implementing the search results from a Google Search Appliance into an existing website. More specifically how do people prefer to implement/embed the search results into their existing site and persist the surrounding website elements (menus, membership etc) around the search results. As far as I am aware there are 3 different approaches. Sub-domain, handle everything in the xslt – create a search.mysite.com which is completely handled by google xslt and embed surround site components in xslt. Embed search results into existing site using an iframe – Use the existing website and just use an iframe to import results into page. Embed results into existing site by using server side processing – This is how I have previously integrated search into a site using a combination of bespoke dev and the GSALib project. I would be interested to hear if anyone has other suggestions, and were people have benefited or regretted using the above approaches.

  • How To Customize Wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter Edition

    If you have the Starter Edition of Windows 7 installed on your netbook you may be sick of looking at the default wallpaper. With Starter Background Changer you can access other customization options with ease. Before There is not a lot that you can say about the singular default wallpaper included with the Starter Edition…it just kind of sits there all boring like. Installing Starter Background Changer Since the installer part of the program is in French we have the entire set of install windows shown here with the appropriate buttons highlighted to get you through the whole process without any problems. Using Starter Background Changer Once the installation process has finished you will simply see a quiet screen with no desktop icons or Start Menu entries visible. Now if you are wondering at this point “Did the program finish installing or did it install at all?” the answer is yes. Right click on your desktop and you will notice a new entry on the Context Menu…the same one that is included in the other editions but not Starter. Time to have some fun… The Personalization Window will open maximized but we have reduced it here for our screenshots. You have four regular categories to choose from in the lower part of the window: Wallpaper, Colors, Sounds, & Screensavers. The first category that we chose for our example was Wallpaper. As you can see here the main display area (My Collection) has no wallpapers showing at the moment. You can use the drop-down menu to access your My Pictures Folder or browse for a different location. Notice that you can choose how the image fills the screen and set up a timed wallpaper slideshow at the bottom. Any picture (or pictures) selected will be added to the My Collection display for easy access the next time you open the window. Once you choose a picture click on Validate the modification to set the wallpaper for your desktop and return to the main window. When you return to the main window you will see a preview for your selection. At this point you can simply close the window or make further adjustments in the other categories. Starter Background Changer provides easy one-stop access to other customization areas. We started off with Colors… Followed by Sounds… And finally Screensavers. Before you do close the main window you can take a quick look at the Options if desired. We did set Optimization of the images to High on our system. Quick and easy wallpaper satisfaction. We did pin the Program Window to our Taskbar…nice if you prefer this method as opposed to the Desktop Context Menu. Conclusion If you have been longing for a way to change the wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter Edition then you will definitely want to give this program a try. Goodbye boring default wallpaper!     Is there a stable way of accessing Google Docs (application) from my desktop without having to use a browser on Windows? On my accepted answer... While I did stipulate that I wanted to not use my browser, I didn't really mean I wanted to avoid browser technology. I meant I didn't want to open my browser, type in the web address for google docs, etc. TheTXI's answer required me to download/install nothing more than what I already had (Chrome) to acheive this. It created a desktop icon (similar to an application) that launches me right into my docs (similar to an application), without extra browser-items on the screen. This was an excellent suggestion, and won by virtue of parsimony.

    Fairly new to the Google Maps Api. I've got an array of data that I want to cycle through and plot on a map. Seems fairly simple, but all the multi-marker tutorials I have found are quite complex.     When overlay is a Google maps overlay and offsetx, offsety is the pixel distance from the maps center that I want to pan latlong to, the following works. var projection = overlay.getProjection(); var pxlocation = projection.fromLatLngToContainerPixel(latlong); map.panTo(projection.fromContainerPixelToLatLng(new google.maps.Point(pxlocation.x+offsetx,pxlocation.y+offsety))); However, I don't always have an overlay on the map and map.getProjection() returns a projection, not a MapCanvasProjection which does not have the methods I need. Is there a way to do this without making an overlay specificaly for it?

    Hello! I have the coordinates of my marker. Now I want to get the address of the marker. So I searched the web and found google maps reserve geocode. Now I tried to do the following: $.getJSON('http://maps.google.com/maps/api/geocode/json?latlng='+point.lat()+','+ point.lng() +'&key='+apiKey+'&sensor=false&output=json&callback=?', function(data) { console.log(data); }); When I try to show the address, meaning getting the json, firebug throws the following error: invalid label on "status": "OK",\n I searched a lot, but didn't find an answer solving my problem. Can you tell me whats wrong with my code? Is there another way to get the address data for the coordinates?

    So I'm working on a web-app for the Google Marketplace that's going to involve integration with Google Drive. Part of what I want to be able to do with the app involves something along the lines of adding a menu option to the Drive menu interface. For instance, you could be editing a document in drive and browse to File-"My new fancy option." Does anyone know if this is possible? Or if it is not, is there another way of adding this sort of custom action functionality where you are able to perform non Drive standard actions on files from within the Drive interface?

  • Change the Way Google Search Results Display in Firefox

    Are you tired of the default look for search results at Google? If you want a different and customized pleasing look for them, then join us as we look at the GoogleMonkeyR User Script. Note: User Style Scripts & User Scripts can be added to most browsers but we are using Firefox & the Greasemonkey extension for our example here. Before Here is the standard look for search results at Google…not bad but it really does not stand out that well either. Installing the User Script You may be asking yourself what makes this particular user script different from others. Take a look at the list of goodies that you get access to and you will understand: Multiple columns of results Removes “Sponsored Links” Add numbers to the results Auto-load more results Removes web search dialogues Open links in a new tab Favicons GooglePreview Self updating Can be configured from a simple user dialogue To get started click on the Webpage Install Button. Once you click on the Webpage Install Button you will see the following window asking for confirmation to add the user script to Firefox. Click Install to complete the process. GoogleMonkeyR in Action Refreshing the same search page shown above shows a noticeable difference already. The light blue background makes the search results stand out a bit better. This is an improvement from before but you will definitely want to have a look to see just how far you can go… Right click on the Greasemonkey Status Bar Icon, go to User Script Commands, and select GoogleMonkeyR Preferences. Once you have clicked on GoogleMonkeyR Preferences the search page will be shaded out and you will have access to the user script’s preferences. This is where you can really make your search results unique looking! Here are the changes that we started out with… After refreshing our search results things looked even better. A look at the entire page of results with our browser maximized and set for two columns. If you have the Auto load more results Option enabled new results will be added very quickly as you scroll down. Our set of search results after adding Favicons & GooglePreview Images. Conclusion If you have been wanting a more dramatic and pleasing look for the search results at Google then you can not go wrong with the GoogleMonkeyR User Script. Change as little or as much as you want to get that perfect look in your browser. Select the icon you wish to change, and click the Change Icon button.  In Windows 7, you will also notice a box to choose whether or not to allow themes to change icons, and you can uncheck it if you don’t want themes to change your icon settings. You can select one of the other included icons, or click browse to find the icon you want.  Click Ok when you are finished. Change Folder icons You can easily change the icon on most folders in Windows Vista and 7.  Simply right-click on the folder and select properties. Click the Customize tab, and then click the Change Icon button.  This will open the standard dialog to change your icon, so proceed as normal. This basically just creates a hidden desktop.ini file in the folder containing the following or similar data: [.ShellClassInfo]IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dllIconIndex=20 You could manually create or edit the file if you choose, instead of using the dialogs. Simply create a new text file named desktop.ini with this same information, or edit the existing one.  Change the IconFile line to the location of your icon. If you are pointing to a .ico file you should change the IconIndex line to 0 instead. Note that this isn’t available for all folders, for instance you can’t use this to change the icon for the Windows folder.   In Windows 7, please note that you cannot change the icon of folder inside a library.  So if you are browsing your Documents library and would like to change an icon in that folder, right-click on it and select Open folder location.  Now you can change the icon as above. In the Shortcut tab, click the Change Icon button. Now choose one of the other available icons or click browse to find the icon you want. Change Icons of Running Programs in the Windows 7 taskbar If your computer is running Windows 7, you can customize the icon of any program running in the taskbar!  This only works on applications that are running but not pinned to the taskbar, so if you want to customize a pinned icon you may want to unpin it before customizing it.  But the interesting thing about this trick is that it can customize any icon anything running in the taskbar, including things like Control Panel! Right-click or click and push up to open the jumplist on the icon, and then right-click on the program’s name and select Properties.  Here we are customizing Control Panel, but you can do this on any application icon. Now, click Change Icon as usual. Select an icon you want (We switched the Control Panel icon to the Security Shield), or click Browse to find another icon.  Click Ok when finished, and then close the application window. The next time you open the program (or Control Panel in our example), you will notice your new icon on its taskbar icon. Please note that this only works on applications that are currently running and are not pinned to the taskbar.  Strangely, if the application is pinned to the taskbar, you can still click Properties and change the icon, but the change will not show up. Change the icon on any Drive on your Computer You can easily change the icon on your internal hard drives and portable drives with the free Drive Icon Changer application.  Simply download and unzip the file (link below), and then run the application as administrator by right-clicking on the icon and selecting “Run as administrator”. Now, select the drive that you want to change the icon of, and select your desired icon file. Click Save, and Drive Icon Changer will let you know that the icon has been changed successfully. You will then need to reboot your computer to complete the changes.  Simply click Yes to reboot. Now, our Drive icon is changed from this default image: to a Laptop icon we chose! You can do this to any drive in your computer, or to removable drives such as USB flash drives.  When you change these drives icons, the new icon will appear on any computer you insert the drive into.  Also, if you wish to remove the icon change, simply run the Drive Icon Changer again and remove the icon path. Download Drive Icon Changer This application actually simply creates or edits a hidden Autorun.inf file on the top of your drive.  You can edit or create the file yourself by hand if you’d like; simply include the following information in the file, and save it in the top directory of your drive: [autorun]ICON=[path of your icon] Remove Arrow from shortcut icons Many people don’t like the arrow on the shortcut icon, and there are two easy ways to do this. If you’re running the 32 bit version of Windows Vista or 7, simply use the Vista Shortcut Overlay Remover.   • Computer crashes on resume from standby almost every time

    I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Core i5 2500K and ASRock Z68 Pro3-M motherboard (no graphics card, hd is a WD Green 1TB, and cd drive is some cheap lite-on drive). Since installing 12.04, my computer has been freezing after resume, but not every time. When I start to resume, it starts going normally with a blinking cursor on the screen and then sometimes it will continue on to the gnome 3 unlock screen. Most of the time, however, it will blink for a little bit and then the monitor will flip modes and shut off due to no signal. Pressing keys on the keyboard gets no response (num lock light doesn't respond, Ctrl-Alt-F1 fails to drop it into a terminal, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace doesn't work) and so I assume the computer is crashed. The worst part is, the logs look entirely normal.   • A stupid question regarding google gadgets. How to host a google gadget? How it works?

    Hi, I spent 5 hours by checking google gadgets websites and FAQs. maybe I am really stupid. I have no idea how to host a gadget. What I knew from reading the google website: 1, I can write gadget with xml, javascript etc.. 2, gadget can be added to igoogle etc.. 3, google can host the gadget for you. 4, gadget can be hosted at anywhere??? All of the above information doesn't answer my question. For instance, with jQuery or Dojo Toolkit, I can download the javascript framework and use it. With google gadget, I can not find a download link for the framework. Why? Does google provide its framework? If no, why does google website say it can be hosted anywhere? I am totally confused. A download link is nowhere in google-gadget website. A brief explanation or some helpful links are very welcome!! Thanks a lot!!! Please don't blame me if you think this question is too silly.
