  [From stackoverflow] Im trying to find a way to speedup my inserts to a DB2 9.7.1 (ubuntu linux) Im watching vmstat and trying to gather some statistics via the db2 get snapshot commands but im not able to figure out which numbers im looking for to be able to see where the trouble is. I've read lits of stuff like http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/35692526/question-multiple-row-in.aspx, and http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/tips/dm-0403wilkins/ and tricks like ALTER TABLE lalala APPEND ON works somewhat (the difference between a dd if=/dev/zero and insert is still a factor 10) but I would like to be able to find the counters or other performance indicators that actually show why it makes sense to use those tricks. For example: What is the metric called that shows me that it is buffer pages allocation (FSCR stuff) that is the problem Where do I see that the insert time is hampered by clustered indexes? I find db2top very useful but im still searching for more direct view of "this is your bottleneck" methods

  Here is simple example I've created after reading several topics about jpa bulk inserts, I have 2 persistent objects User, and Site. One user could have many site, so we have one to many relations here. Suppose I want to create user and create/link several sites to user account. Here is how code looks like, considering my willing to use bulk insert for Site objects. User user = new User("John Doe"); user.getSites().add(new Site("google.com", user)); user.getSites().add(new Site("yahoo.com", user)); EntityTransaction tx = entityManager.getTransaction(); tx.begin(); entityManager.persist(user); tx.commit(); But when I run this code (I'm using hibernate as jpa implementation provider) I see following sql output: Hibernate: insert into User (id, name) values (null, ?) Hibernate: call identity() Hibernate: insert into Site (id, url, user_id) values (null, ?, ?) Hibernate: call identity() Hibernate: insert into Site (id, url, user_id) values (null, ?, ?) Hibernate: call identity() So, I means "real" bulk insert not works or I am confused? In order to tidy this table up, I need to get this information as a date range rather than a row per day as it currently is. I can obviously do this with Min and Max aggregates easily but the ranges overlap and other business code expect non-overlapping ranges. I also tried to achieve this with self joins and row_number(), but without much success...   Hi, is it possible to order a select from mysql by using a known id first. Example: $sql = "SELECT id, name, date FROM TABLE ORDER BY "id(10)", id DESC Not sure if the above makes sense but what I would like to do is first start ordering by the known id which is 10 which I placed in quotes "id(10)". I know that cannot work as is in the query but it's just to point out what I am trying to do. If something similar can work I would appreciate it. Thanks.

  How can I insert an SVG image into a Microsoft Publisher 2010 document as a vector image without having to first convert it to a bitmap format like PNG? Copying and pasting an SVG file into a Publisher document does not work. I am aware that one can convert an SVG to EPS, and insert that, since Publisher accepts EPS files. The problem is that it is time consuming to convert, and often the colors come out wrong. If this is the only way to get vector graphics into Publisher, then is there a one-step method to convert an SVG to EPS and paste it into Publisher at one fell swoop?

  Hi, I have this big function that gets a lot of different data and insert it into multiple tables.. Not all the data is always available so not all the SQL INSERT queries are successful. I need to check which SQL INSERT query was fully successful and which wasn't to the do something with this data (like inserting into a log table or similar). Just to give you an example of how I think it can be done: $sql = 'INSERT INTO data_table (ID, column1, column2) VALUES(?, ?, ?)'; if ($stmt->prepare($sql)) { $stmt->bind_param('iss', $varID, $var1, $var2); if ($stmt->execute()) { $success == TRUE; //or something like that } } I'm not completely sure this is the best way and if its always really show if the data was inserted into the table... • Improve mysql JDBC insert call

  i have a legacy Java system that every time it gets an order it makes a JDBC call to a stored procedure for each field in the order. Generally the stored procedure will get called 20 to 30 times for each order. The store procedure is just doing an insert into a table for each field. i need to improve the performance of this operation. one thought i had was to create an insert query string that does multiple inserts in one JDBC call. MySql supports a multiple insert string. INSERT INTO PersonAge (name, age) VALUES ('Helen', 24), ('Katrina', 21), ('Samia', 22), ('Hui Ling', 25), ('Yumie', 29) This has the advantage of only requiring one JDBC call per order. Any other ideas on how to improve performance?

  i have 2 stored procedures usp_SP1 and usp_SP2. Both of them make use of insert into #tt exec sp_somesp. I wanted to created a 3rd stored procedure which will decide which stored proc to call. something like create proc usp_Decision ( @value int ) as begin if (@value = 1) exec usp_SP1 -- this proc already has insert into #tt exec usp_somestoredproc else exec usp_SP2 -- this proc too has insert into #tt exec usp_somestoredproc end Later realized I needed some structure defined for the return value from usp_Decision so that i can populate the SSRS dataset field. So here is what i tried: within usp_Decision created a temp table and tried to do "insert into #tt exec usp_SP1". Didn't work out. error "insert exec cannot be nested" within usp_Decision tried passing table variable to each of the stored proc and update the table within the stored procs and do "select * from ". That didnt work out as well. Table variable passed as parameter cannot be modified within the stored proc. Pls. suggest what can de done?
