  I have custom SiteMapProvider and RoleProvider that works together properly: IsAccessibleToUser returns false if current user's role isn't mentioned in SiteMapNode.Roles for page requested. So breadcrumbs or menu doesn't show an item. But user still can type now showed URL directly and open a page. How can I block such behavior? Also I have next Web.config settings: <authorization> <allow roles="Admin,Manager,Client" /> <deny users="*" /> </authorization>

  I just watched a video of Douglas Crockford's presentation about his 2009 book JavaScript: The Good Parts. In the video, he explains that the following block is dangerous because it produces silent errors: return { ok: false }; And that it should actually be written like this (emphasising that although seemingly identical the behavioural difference is crucial): return { ok: false }; You can see his comments around 32 minutes into the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQVTIJBZook&feature=player_embedded#!&start=1920 I have not heard this before, and was wondering if this rule still applies or if this requirement in syntax has been overcome by JavaScript developments since this statement was made. • Does malloc() allocate a contiguous block of memory?

  I have a piece of code written by a very old school programmer :-) . it goes something like this typedef struct ts_request { ts_request_buffer_header_def header; char package[1]; } ts_request_def; ts_request_buffer_def* request_buffer = malloc(sizeof(ts_request_def) + (2 * 1024 * 1024)); the programmer basically is working on a buffer overflow concept. I know the code looks dodgy. so my questions are: Does malloc always allocate contiguous block of memory ?. because in this code if the blocks are not contiguous , the code will fail big time Doing free(request_buffer) , will it free all the bytes allocated by malloc i.e sizeof(ts_request_def) + (2 * 1024 * 1024), or only the bytes of the size of the structure sizeof(ts_request_def) Do you see any evident problems with this approach , i need to discuss this with my boss and would like to point out any loopholes with this approach

• Block all other input to an application and control it from a wrapper in Java

  I have a windows application which has a complex GUI that I would like to hide from users. In order to do this, I would like to create a wrapper with an extremely simple interface that overlays this application and automates a number of actions when a user clicks a single button on the wrapper. (I hope "wrapper" is the proper term.) Is it possible to use Java to block input to the underlying application so that users cannot inadvertently mess up the automation? How would I go about this? Also, how can I automate key presses and clicks to the application without hijacking the mouse? Is this possible in Java? I have looked at java.awt.Robot, but it appears to hijack the mouse. I have also looked at AutoIT, but it too hijacks the mouse and does not integrate with Java. Neither of these options seem powerful enough for what I need, but I do not know how else to proceed.

• How does one SELECT block another?

  I'm looking at output of SP_WhoIsActive on SQL Server 2005, and it's telling me one session is blocking another - fine. However they both are running a SELECT. How does one SELECT block another? Shouldn't they both be acquiring shared locks (which are compatible with one another)? Some more details: Neither session has an open transaction count - so they are stand-alone. The queries join a view with a table. They are complex queries which join lots of tables and results in 10,000 or so reads. Any insight much appreciated.

Instead of retrieving the entire table, I am retrieving only one record using the following statement :- select * from Products where ProductID=3 Now I wanted to update dataset directly in to DB by using following statements (DAP 4.1) db.UpdateDataSet(ds, ds.Tables[0].TableName, null, cmdupdate, null, UpdateBehavior.Standard); Questions Can I Retrieve only one row from DB while a lot of other records are there and update back using Adapter update? ( In other words, I am not selecting all records from table) I am using Data Application Block 4.1? It will work there right? If anyone can give example for update will be great ( with Procedures).   Hi, I was just wondering whether in C is it possible to peek in the input buffer or perform similar trickery to know whether a call to fgets would block at a later time. Java allows to do something like that by calling BufferedReader.ready(), this way I can implement console input something like this: while (on && in.ready()) { line = in.readLine(); /* do something with line */ if (!in.ready()) Thread.sleep(100); } this allows an external thread to gracefully shutdown the input loop by setting on to false; I'd like to perform a similar implementation in C without resorting to non portable tricks, I already know I can make a "timed out fgets" under unix by resorting to signals or (better, even though requering to take care of buffering) reimplement it on top of recv/select, but I'd prefer something that would work on windows too. • Code won't exit foreach block

  I've got the following C# code segment that takes a list, finds objects that are ready to update, then shoves them into a temp list, deletes from the main list, and then goes on its merry way. My issue is that the foreach block, which cycles through my main list, won't exit. TempLog.Clear(); //Ensure TempLog is empty foreach (CLogger ready in PlayerLog) { if (ready.UpdateReady == true) // Record is ready to be updated in database { TempLog.Add(ready); // Add record to templog PlayerLog.Remove(ready); // Remove from playerlog } } <---- Never reaches this point if (TempLog.Count > 0) // Just check that templog isn't empty { new Thread(Update).Start(); // Run update code } I've put heaps of debugging in, and I can watch PlayerLog start at 1, TempLog at 0, then it enters the foreach loop, picks up that the record UpdateReady flag is on, TempLog goes to 1, PlayerLog goes to 0, then it just stops.. • Cannot Generate ParameterSetMetadata While Programmatically Creating A Parameter Block

  I'm trying to programmatically create a parameter block for a function ( along the lines of this blog post ). I'm starting with a CommandMetadata object (from an existing function). I can create the ParameterMetadata object and set things like the ParameterType, the name, as well as some attributes. The problem I'm running into is that when I use the GetParamBlock method of the ProxyCommand class, none of my attributes that I set in the Attributes collection of the ParameterMetadata are generated. The problem this causes is that when the GetParamBlock is called, the new parameter is not annotated with the appropriate Parameter attribute.   I am using jQuery BlockUI in a project. For a particular user action, I want to block the UI, and then POST data to the server. When the timeout event occurs OR the server returns, I want to unblock the page. I can't seem to implement this behaviour. • What is wrong with my @synchronized block?

  I have 2 threads in my application, a game update thread and render/IO/main thread. My update thread updates the game state, and the render thread renders the scene based on the updated values of the game state models and a few other variables stored inside an object (gameEngine). The render thread gets executed while the game thread is still updating, which is a problem, so it appeared to me the solution is to use @synchronized like this: @synchronized(gameEngine) { [gameEngine update]; nextUpdate = now + GAME_UPDATE_INTERVAL; gameEngine.lastGameUpdateInterval = now - lastUpdate; gameEngine.lastGameUpdateTime = now; lastUpdate = now; } But the render thread still accesses the gameEngine object between -update and the last 3 lines of the block. Why is this?

• Force blocking read after EAGAIN?

  I have a file descriptor that is open for reading which may be non-blocking. What I need to do is simply read all data until reaching EOF and write that data to a writable file descriptor. As the process that performs this copying is not "aware" of anything that is going on around it, I don't think that I can do something useful while waiting for data, and I don't want to use a while loop (while errno is not EAGAIN) because I think that it would be wasteful. Is there a way to block or otherwise suspend execution of the copying process until data becomes available?

From logs, some function calls will wait for the finishing of the delegate and continue to work. Is it true? If yes, what workaround can I do? • Return result of block passed to #scan during regex

  I've searched and not been able to find the right way of doing what I'm trying to. I read a file line by line and want to create a new object from a regex on each line. I'm not using an XML parser because the data is not well formed and listed below is all I need to get from each line. I can't seem to get scan to return the result of the block. It just returns the original string.   Hello, I've been trying to get the lpfnAcceptEX function in Win32 to block on accept. If this is not possible I was wondering if there was a flag I could accpet or some other function that I could wait on. Right now the program is simply continually creating accepted sockets with no connections behind them. Perhaps I am misunderstanding how this is to work. Is there another function I need to wait on? • Taxonomy terms are not translated in an exposed filters block

  Hi, in my view's exposed filters block the taxonomy terms are showed only in the original language version (in English). Vocabulary is set to Localize terms. The terms are translated via Translation Table. All the other content (Views, nodes, translated strings etc.) is showed correctly (in German). I'd expect them to appear in current language, however. Here for instance, I'd expect to have German Sommer 10 instead of English Summer 10. Do You have any idea how to solve it? I use Drupal 6 and Views 2.10

• Java concurrency - Should block or yield?

  Hi, I have multiple threads each one with its own private concurrent queue and all they do is run an infinite loop retrieving messages from it. It could happen that one of the queues doesn't receive messages for a period of time (maybe a couple seconds), and also they could come in big bursts and fast processing is necessary. I would like to know what would be the most appropriate to do in the first case: use a blocking queue and block the thread until I have more input or do a Thread.yield()? I want to have as much CPU resources available as possible at a given time, as the number of concurrent threads may increase with time, but also I don't want the message processing to fall behind, as there is no guarantee of when the thread will be reescheduled for execution when doing a yield(). I know that hardware, operating system and other factors play an important role here, but setting that aside and looking at it from a Java (JVM?) point of view, what would be the most optimal?

  Hi, I've little problem : I'm solving problem with calling function by pointer and passing to it parameters in continuous memory block. My goal is to have function named e.g CallFunc(void * func,void *params, unsigned int param_length); that I'll send function pointer, pointer to function's parameters and eventually parameters length and this calling function will call passed function with it's parameters. I will like write this in C/C++, but if somebody has idea, how this resolve in other language, that supports DLL generation and exportet functions, it will be fine too. • Removing a text block from a file : sed ?

  Hi, Following an attack, I need to remove 4 lines of text added to .htaccess files in my site, and was thinking SED would be the way to go, but cannot see how in spire of many attempts. The added lines are RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http:// RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !%{HTTP_HOST} RewriteRule . http://targeturlhere.net/%{REMOTE_ADDR} I managed to create the script to remove added htaccess files containing those lines only, but for existing htaccess files in which that was appended I have to edit the file and cannot delete it. I cannot just remove line by line nor use "RewriteEngine On" as the start marker, as this instruction "RewriteEngine On" is sometimes legitimate elsewhere in the file. In most cases those lines are the last, but I guess in other files they could be in the middle, so I was trying to remove exactly that block - and have a script I could reuse in a similar case. (Edit: my 4 lines are below one another, no blank line in between but the editor here seems to either show no breakline, or one adding a blank line) Any hint or tip ? Thanks.

  I'm trying to write a DML script that updates a column but I wanted to make sure the column existed first so I wrapped it in a IF EXISTS block IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_NAME='Client' AND COLUMN_NAME='IsClarityEnabled') BEGIN UPDATE Client SET IsClarityEnabled = 1 WHERE ClientID = 21 END So the weirdness is that it tries to execute the update even if it fails the condition. So column doesn't exist and the UPDATE statement runs and I get an error. Why? Even stranger is that this does work: IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_NAME='Client' AND COLUMN_NAME='IsClarityEnabled') BEGIN EXEC('UPDATE Client SET IsClarityEnabled = 1 WHERE ClientID = 21') END Is there something special about an UPDATE command that causes it to behave this way?

• try finally block around every Object.Create?

  Hi, I have a general question about best practice in OO Delphi. Currently, I but a try finally block around everywhere, where I create an object, to free that object after usage (to avoid memory leaks). E.g.: aObject := TObject.Create; try aOBject.AProcedure(); ... finally aObject.Free; end; instead of: aObject := TObject.Create; aObject.AProcedure(); .. aObject.Free; To you think, it is good practice, or too much overhead? And what about the performance?
