    which computer to choose with Pentium processor hello they are getting rid of the old computer equipment in the office and i have to choose the computer to take home i get first choice to pick. -15 inch lcd screen 4 gb of ram core 2 duo dual Core E8400 3.00 GHz dvd writer windows vista/ linux -15 inch crt monitor with 2 gb ram and pentium 4 2 ghz single core HT technology windows xp hardisks both 250 GB my friend is telling me to choose the second one Pentium single core HT because he told me it runs faster becuase of HT technology and cooler and consumes less current electricity so it wont get overheated because it has HT technology so it's high definition for encoding and watching HD movies and HD sound and is like a gaming pc to play internet games. And also he said the dual core 8400 runs at 3 ghz compared to the 2 ghz so it heats very much because of the two extra cores so it takes more current raising electricty bills and is not good for gaming and watching HD movies and internet flash animations and games because of getting heated everytime. And he wants to choose and take the E8400 because he has air conditioning at home so it will be safe from heating. So which one computer should i take is it really faster because of the HT High definition technology and will i be able to play internet flash card games better and watch good HD movies Youtube etc and play all the music and songs.

  • Minecraft server hosting hardware specifications [on hold]

    I am planning on purchasing a server to rent off Minecraft game servers, largely to friends. I am planning on purchasing a 128GB RAM server to save on colocation costs (as I am likely to need more than 32GB and would have to rent 2U of space...) I am hoping for some advice about the processing power needed to deal with this level of RAM. The servers will be run in a shared environment on linux in a VM to make backups easier. The server I have in mind is dual CPU. I have been considering at the low end dual Xeon E5-2609V2 Quad-Core 2.5Ghz, and at the high end dual Xeon E5-2650V2 Eight-Core 2.6Ghz. The difference between these is 6.4 GT/s and 8 GT/s and £3000 for the lower spec server, £4300 for the higher spec. I was hoping I could get advice about whether it is worth paying for the extra/higher speed processor or if I would be wasting my money? Thank you for any help - I appreciate that this is not directly related to professional system administration.

    I have a Windows Service that does the following when started. When running via a Console application it works fine, but once I put in a Windows Service I get the below exception. Here is what I have tried so far: Disabled the firewall, also tried adding explicit exclusions for the exe, port, and protocol Checked CAS Policy Config, shows unrestricted rights Configured the Service to run as an Administrator Account, Local System, Local Service, and Network Service, each with the same result Tried different ports Also tried 127.0.0.1 just to see... same issue This is wrecking my head, so any help would be greatly appreciated: The Code: var _listener = new TcpListener(endpoint); //192.168.2.2:20000 _listener.Start(); The resulting Exception: Service cannot be started.     Are there any important change in how SLES 10 implements Tcp sockets vs. SLES 9? I have several apps written in C# (.NET 3.5) that run on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. They've been running fine for over a year, getting market data from a SLES 9 machine using a socket connection. The machine was upgraded today to SLES 10 and its causing some strange behavior. The socket normally returns a few hundred or thousand bytes every second. But occasionally, I stop receiving data. Ten or more seconds will go by with no data and then Receive returns with a 10k+ bytes. And some buffer is causing data loss because the bytes I receive on the socket no longer make a correct packet. The only thing changed was the SLES 9 to 10 upgrade. And rolling back fixes this immediately. Any ideas?

    The difference between connection and read timeout, is that read specifies how long the data connection can be open until it automatically closesc, correct? A connection timeout specifies how long the socket should wait until a connection is established, correct? So if a connection timeout is set to "infinity" what does that really mean? Will it try to establish a connection and if no response is given (as on packets are lost? or port is down?) it will just idle? or will Could someone please explain the basics of network/socket timeouts? and in what situation can a client socket wait infinity?

    Hi, I'm trying to use the Java commands pw.println() and br.readLine() in Matlab because I have set up a socket (input_socket2) between Matlab and a command-line program I want to control using Java classes BufferedReader and PrintWriter. Before the following snippet of code, I implemented another socket that goes between 2 computers. This works great and I also know that the following snippet of code successfully opens up a communication line between Matlab and the other program. However, Matlab throws an error at pw.println('noop').   • Perl - Choose interface to connect through

    I have 2 interfaces on my server, eth0 and eth0:0. Those are 2 different external ips and obviously 2 different reverse domains. When i open a IO::Socket::INET Perl uses the eth0 interface by default. I would like to use the second interface (eth0:0) because this has a different ip and i dont want to use my main ip/domain. I have absolutely no idea how to select which interface to connect through.   • How to solve Python memory leak when using urrlib2?

    Hi, I'm trying to write a simple Python script for my mobile phone to periodically load a web page using urrlib2. In fact I don't really care about the server response, I'd only like to pass some values in the URL to the PHP. The problem is that Python for S60 uses the old 2.5.4 Python core, which seems to have a memory leak in the urrlib2 module. As I read there's seems to be such problems in every type of network communications as well. This bug have been reported here a couple of years ago, while some workarounds were posted as well. I've tried everything I could find on that page, and with the help of Google, but my phone still runs out of memory after ~70 page loads. Strangely the Garbege Collector does not seem to make any difference either, except making my script much slower. It is said that, that the newer (3.1) core solves this issue, but unfortunately I can't wait a year (or more) for the S60 port to come. here's how my script looks after adding every little trick I've found: import urrlib2, httplib, gc while(true): url = "http://something.com/foo.php?parameter=" + value f = urllib2.urlopen(url) f.read(1) f.fp._sock.recv=None # hacky avoidance f.close() del f gc.collect() Any suggestions, how to make it work forever without getting the "cannot allocate memory" error? However, for a socket file descriptor, is this the same location or somewhere else? Also, do sockets utilize the file.c alloc_fd to allocate the file descriptor or do they utilize some other function?

I don't get why you have to flush a socket, what's actually happening there? The bits just hang out somewhere in memory until they get pushed off? I read some things online about sockets, but it's all very abstract and high level. What's actually happening here?

    I am trying to develop a system in which a user can upload a slideshow (pdf) and it'll export each slide as a png. After some digging around I came across a post on here that suggested using a processor. I've had a go, but I cant get the command to run, if it is running then I don't know what is happening because no errors are being shown. When I run that command by hand, it works but it doesn't give the details of each slide it just executes it. What I need to happen is once its made all the slides, pass back the data to a new model... or I know where all the slides are, but once I get to that point I'm not sure what todo.
