• IIS FTP 7.5 Data Channel Problem (SSL)

  Hey there I wonder if anyone can get me in the right direction. I am setting up both a FTPS Client and Server, FTPS Server using Microsoft’s iis FTP 7.5. On the client side it will be running on Linux and I am using M2crypto for the openssl wrapping (python). I am worried the problem is on the server side (iis7.5) due to the following discovery : If I host using Filezilla with BOTH the control and data channel being forced to be encrypted it works 100% (100% file transmission), if i use iis as the server everything works up to the point when the data channel takes over... i.e. all data of the retrieved file is already received correctly in my basket! The ftp server just won't send the final '226 Transfer complete.' on the cmd socket. Why? If i force the client or server to close the connection the file is 100% intact....If i use iis 7.5 with forced encryption on control channel all works 100% as long as i don’t force data channel... If we terminate the client, the uploaded file on the server suddenly jumps up to full size.

• Screen randomly goes blue/black/white

  Problem Randomly, while using my computer, the monitor goes dark grey/almost black, or it goes white with faint grey vertical lines, or it goes blue with black vertical lines. It's as if the computer powers off. People tell me I sign out of Skype, Spotify stops playing when it happens, etc. When I look at the tower, it doesn't seem like it's off at all. Nothing changes, fans are spinning, lights are on, etc. If you were only looking at the tower, you'd never know there was a problem The only way I can get it to come back up is to push and hold the power button and turn it off, then back on This never happens while I'm playing video games. I've done 5-6 hour sessions of League of Legends, and it doesn't do anything When I'm just browsing the web, reading email, checking Reddit, etc, it happens all the time. It can happen multiple times in a session, it usually takes only about 5 minutes from the time I start browsing to when the computer crashes This started happening after I moved to a new apartment (this has to be relevant somehow, it was not happening where I lived before) There is nothing in the crash logs or event logs System Specs i5 2500k CPU AMD Radeon 6800 GPU Gigabyte z68a-d3h-b3 motherboard WD VelociRaptor 1 TB HDD Screenshots Device manager About screen Things I have tried I was getting a WMI Error in my event logs, but I fixed it using Microsoft's fix, KB 2545227 I was using Windows 8. I wiped the HDD and downgraded to Windows 7 64 bit I took out the video card and used a can of air to totally clean out the video card, all fans, and the inside of the computer in general. I made sure all of the video card pins were fine, then reconnected it I tried to update my motherboard BIOS, but anything I downloaded from Gigabyte was only for 32 bit machines, not 64. I don't even know how to tell what my motherboard BIOS is at right now I am using a power strip, and anything else connected to it works just fine If I re-seat the monitor cable while this is happening, nothing changes Please, help me. I've been battling this for several weeks now, and it's so frustrating it makes me not even want to use the computer.

• DNS manager in Windows Server 2012 Essentials - My one server appears twice

  I have a newly installed Windows Server 2012 Essentials. It works pretty good although I'm working on some DNS improvements. Something that seems a little weird is in DNS Manager, my server appears twice. Once as hostname and once as hostname.mydomain.local. They seem to be identical and locked in sync. If I change one, the other follows. Is this normal? Does anyone know why I have this? I'm talking about the top level on the navigation. The very top is DNS and then these two below. Zones, forwarders etc are below them. I've found a couple of forum posts of people asking the same thing but no useful answer. All tutorials etc I can find with screenshots show only one which makes me uncomfortable. The server was installed out of the box as standard with the wizards. I know about the recommendation not to use .local but the wizards didn't give me any other option.

• How can I install .NET framework 3.5 on XP machines without internet connection?

  I want to install .NET framework 3.5 on a couple of machines that do not have internet access. If I install the "no internet access"-package it still wants to download something. How can I figure out what is missing? Are there other installation packages? Edit: I would present screenshots but I cannot upload anything from here and the shots would be in german. So I present only the text translated back to english... Installing the "full redistributable package": At the bottom of the license agreement page it display this text: Size of download file: 67 MB Appoximate download time: 2h 44min (56KBit/s) 18min (512KBit/s) It shows the text even if I installed Windows Installer 3.1. After agreeing it displays the "Download and Installation Status"-Dialog with a progress bar labeled "Download:" and Status: Connection to server attempted (try X of 5). Total Download Status: 56MB/67MB I tried it in a VM with no network connection. It tries 5 times while the progress bar shows progress. Later the progress bar is labeled "Installation:". Even later it reports problems during setup and provides two buttons "Send Report Later" and "Don't Send". Now here it comes: "Setup completed" and "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 has been deinstalled successfully." (Emphasis is mine) "It is recommended to install current service packs and security updates. More information at Windows Update (link)." Edit2: Installed Service Pack 3, but still no success.

• How do people type different languages into computer?

  Hello, We have English keyboards. I never saw any other keyboard in my life. I've been wondering for a long time. How do people in Korea, China, Russia, Muslim countries and some European countries where English is less known. Do they have keyboards in their native language? I mean are the keyboard directly manufactured in their native language. Or do they use some kind of keyboard mapping softwares to acheive the task. I've been searching in Google images to have a glance at their computers but didn't find any real key pads for computers/smartphones. If they have some non-English keyboard. Then how would they type web URLs? URLs possible in other languages also? If they have to type English URLs then it also means that they need to know English. I've seen in some movies that they have all their softwares, windows have text in their native language. How do they have some different language? I feel lost & confused. If you have any screenshots / pics of such non-english computer please post. I want to see one.

• How do I use command line and wmctrl to make a window larger than the screen to get a huge screenshot?

  I use a program which makes a large image which I have to scroll to view. The program has no way to save the image, and I have no access to the source to modify it. The only way I have to get the image from the program is by screenshot. My goal is to save the full size image without having to piece together individual screenshots. I'm using this script to try taking a screenshot: #!/bin/bash window=$(wmctrl -l | grep "Program$" | awk '{print $1}') wmctrl -v -i -r $window -e '0,0,0,6030,5828' wmctrl -i -a $window import -window $window ~/Desktop/screenshot.png This uses wmctrl to get the window id ($window) for a window named "Program". It then tries to resize the window to the desired dimensions. It uses imagemagick (import) to save a screenshot.png on the user's Desktop. All of this works except the resize step. I can resize the window using wmctrl -r -e, but sizes greater than the screen size don't work. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and the Gnome Desktop. I run two monitors, but I've tried this with one of them disabled. Is there a way to resize the window larger than my screen to get a huge screenshot?

• 2 Computers, same network, different outgoing speeds when uploading to internet?

  I have 2 work machines in my office, a PowerMac G5 and a MacBook Air. Both behind an IPCop firewall. The PowerMac is connected through a gigabit switch, the MacBook Air is connected through a Netgear 802.11g access point that is then plugged into the gigabit switch. There is also a FreeNAS box, both machines are able to read and write files to it at close to their pipe speeds. The main problem is when I am trying to upload files to the internet at large. The G5 is only hitting 0.1 - 0.25 Mbps. The Macbook is able to hit 2-3 Mbps. The setup (G5 / IPCop / Network) has been the same for 5 years. The issues with the internet speed started about 3 months ago. I hadn't tested on the Macbook at this point. I had complained to the ISP, they said their modem needed a firmware update, did that nothing changed. Reset IPCop, turned off squid, etc. No changes. The ISP switched the office over to a better plan with a theoretical 6 Mbps up, still no change. At this point I tried testing the Macbook, and lo and behold there's the speed. But why? I have tried changing out everything, cables, switches, using another ethernet port on the G5, wiping the system, using DHCP, using manual IPs, changing DNS servers, etc. Nothing works. I figured that if there was something horribly wrong with the network, then internally I would find a similar issue, but that is perfect. iperf, ping, etc show no dropped packets and near saturation of the internal network. • Can I select which folders the Photos live tile chooses from?

  The built-in Photos app in Windows 8 has a live tile on the start screen that shows photos from your pictures library. It's a cool little visual, even if it's not particularly useful. The problem is that a lot of image files on my computer are not really photos per se -- I have a lot of screenshots, PNGs of technical drawings, graph images, etc. Those all look pretty awkward on the start screen. I look pretty awkward on the start screen too... sometimes photos like resume profile shots show up that I don't want to delete, but they're not really what I want to be staring at when I start my computer up. I'm looking for some way to configure which folders the Photos app should look in for images to display on the live tile. That way, I could point it to some directories of pretty scenic pictures I've taken, and not have to see graphs and my own mug. For the time being, I've just disabled the live tile (right click - disable live tile), but I would ultimately like to have this functionality, just with more control over it.

• How to fix Windows 7 when System Recovery Options hangs?

  The battery power ran out on my HP G60 laptop and it shut down. Even after recharging, Windows 7 will now not start up. After any attempted startup, it bluescreens and takes me to the "Startup Repair (recommended)" / "Start Windows Normally" console screen. "Startup Repair (recommended)" appears to be the right choice, but when I choose it, I get taken to a screen which appears to be System Recovery Options (it's the same wallpaper as the screenshots here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html). However, I just get a cursor with nothing else; no "System Recovery Options" window ever pops up. (A black console screen does pop up for a split-second but too fast to be able to read the text.) The empty screen with cursor hangs indefinitely. System Recovery Options normally runs off of a partition on the laptop hard drive. When I got the laptop, I also created a System Repair Disc (in fact I have more than one) and when I try use any of them; they all result in the same wallpaper and empty screen with lone cursor. Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. The computer did not come with a Windows 7 installation disc, so there's no obvious way to reinstall Windows 7. Safe mode does not work; startup fails and I just get sent back to the "Startup Repair (recommended)"/"Start Windows Normally" console screen. "Start in last good state" does not work either, same result as above. Running a memory & hard disk check found no errors. Do I have any options at all? "System Recovery Options" seems to be what I want, but the screen that is supposed to take me to them just hangs.

• How to fix "The connection was restarted"?

  I have a php script with ajax. Few days ago, without making any changes, the script stopped working. The script is working sometimes but it is very slow. Other times it doesn't load completely. Yet other times it loads and empty page or it shows a "The connection was restarted" message. We have tried loading the page from 4 different computers in two different countries (two different ISPs). There is nothing relevant in the server's log. We contacted iPage.com hosting support. We sent screenshots. And all we manage to get from them was an incomplete screenshot and the message 'We tested. The page loads'. So, they won't admit the fault. It looks like they loaded the page once and declared it is working and went back to playing solitaire. I know their support. We had all kind of problems with iPage hosting. My questions are: 1. There is any way to make this error more easy to reproduce? I mean instead of fixing the error to get it appear more often. 2. There is any way to test a server response, to see if it drops connections?

• Can't install flash on Firefox or Chrome (but works fine on IE...)

  I'm using a work computer (Lenovo) that I recently got from my IT department to replace an old machine. When I installed Firefox and Chrome, I needed to install Adobe Flash. However, the installation has failed on several occasions. I've taken all the usual steps: closing all programs and windows, installing updates and restarting machine, etc, but still the installation does not work. The download manager and status bars say that installation is complete, but I still can't view flash sites on FF or Chrome. Flash is working fine on IE though. Last thing: when I reboot the first dialog box that comes up is from Adobe Download Manager, and it says "Please shut down Internet Explorer before uninstall can complete". I'm confused since a) I've just rebooted so have yet to start IE and b) why UNinstall? My company does not support non-IE browsers so I'm not getting much help from our IT department. If necessary I can post screenshots of error messages and stuff if it comes to that, but hopefully someone will be able to diagnose the problem before that's necessary as I'm not the most tech savvy (despite being a huge fan of reddit...)

• Android's EditText is hidden when the virtual keyboard is shown and a SurfaceView is involved

  I have a simple user interface: an EditText should be located below a SurfaceView. I use a RelativeLayout to arrange these two views. Now, when I tap on the EditText to open the virtual keyboard the SurfaceView slides up but the EditText is hidden and does not show the typed string. To reproduce, use the following layout XML code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout01" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent"> <SurfaceView android:id="@+id/SurfaceView01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> </SurfaceView> <EditText android:id="@+id/EditText01" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:selectAllOnFocus="true" android:textStyle="normal" android:singleLine="true"> </EditText> </RelativeLayout> The main Activity class only needs to show the layout. When I start the program and tap the EditText, the virtual keyboard appears but the EditText field is gone. • Binding update adds news series to WPF Toolkit chart (instead of replacing/updating series)

  I'm currently recoding a bar chart in my app to make use of the Chart class in the WPF Toolkit. Using MVVM, I'm binding the ItemsSource of a ColumnSeries in my chart to a property on my viewmodel. To illustrate this, here are a couple of screenshots showing the chart before an update (with a single data point in ScoreDistribution.ClassScores) and after it (now with 3 data points in ScoreDistribution.ClassScores): Now, I realise there are other ways I could be doing this (e.g. changing the contents of the original ScoreDistribution object rather than replacing it entirely), but I don't understand why it's going wrong in its current form.   Good afternoon, seems like I am somewhat stuck in CC-land these days, but I have one (hopefully) final question regarding proper CC-handling: When using the CC View Creation Wizard with the two steps / details below, I can create a proper Snapshot view on my machine perfectly fine, however when trying to do the same with the mkview command, it fails...   I am using PHPUnit 3.4.12 to drive my selenium tests. I'd like to be able to get a screenshot taken automatically when a test fails. • Why does navigationItem.titleView align left when presentmodalviewcontroller called?

  I'm using a UILabel for the titleView of a navigation bar (I'm making simple in-app web browser). It works fine, except that when I present a modal view controller, the titleView shifts from the center of the navbar to the far left (underneath the back button). I've tested in 3.0 and up. I see the file in my /debug/ folder.. MediaPlayer mp = new MediaPlayer(); var uri = new Uri(@"E:\projects\LiftExp\_solution\LiftExperiment\bin\Debug\sounds\DialingTone.wav"); mp.Open(uri); mp.Play(); = Works perfectly.. • Cron Job on Ubuntu Hardy Executing But Not Deleting Files As Expected

  I have a bit of a pickle here and wonder if anyone can give me some pointers: I have a cron job which executes for a particular user daily and is supposed to sweep files in a particular directory. Technically, it is two jobs. I've turned on cron.log to verify they're actually executing, and they are: May 24 11:03:01 AppNameGoesHere /USR/SBIN/CRON[11257]: (mongrel_AppNameGoesHere) CMD (rm -rf /var/www/apps/AppNameGoesHere/current/public/ {popular,index,purchasing,purchasing-alternate,support,about-us,guarantee,screenshots}.htm{,l}) May 24 11:04:01 AppNameGoesHere /USR/SBIN/CRON[11260]: (mongrel_AppNameGoesHere) CMD (rm -rf /var/www/apps/AppNameGoesHere/current/public/ {stats,popular,bcf,articles,expenses}) I have removed the actual usernames and formatted it so that it is less ugly on StackOverflow. Now, my question: Despite the fact that I can see these deletions executing and apparently succeeding in the log, if I go to the specified directory, the files are still there. I initially suspected permission hijinx were going on, but I've verified that I can delete the files manually by su-ing into the mongrel_AppNameGoesHere user and issuing individual rm commands or by copy/pasting the cron job to the command line. Anything that I don't manually zap stays unzapped despite days of that cron job executing successfully. Any suggestions on to what might be happening? I was previously using Dapper Drake with these cron jobs in the /etc/crontab file directly, and when I upgraded to Hardy I moved them to user-specific crontabs (via sudo crontab -e - u mongrel_AppNameGoesHere), which was the point where they appear to have stopped working.)

• What file format can represent an uncompressed raster image at 48 or 64 bits per pixel?

  I am creating screenshots under Windows and using the LockBits function from GDI+ to extract the pixel data, which will then be written to a file. To maximise performance I am also: Using the same PixelFormat as the source bitmap, to avoid format conversion Using the ImageLockModeUserInputBuf flag to extract the pixel data into a pre-allocated buffer This pre-allocated buffer (pointed to by BitmapData::Scan0) is part of a memory-mapped file (to avoid copying the pixel data again.) I will also be writing the code that reads the file, so I can use (or invent) any format I wish. However I would prefer to use a well-known format that existing programs (ideally web browsers) are able to read, because that means I can visually confirm that the images are correct before writing the code for the other program (that reads the image.) I have implemented this successfully for the PixelFormat32bppRGB format, which matches the format of a 32bpp BMP file, so if I extract the pixel data directly into the memory-mapped BMP file and prefix it with a BMP header I get a valid BMP image file that can be opened in Paint and most browsers. Unfortunately one of the machines I am testing on returns pixels in PixelFormat64bppPARGB format (presumably this is influenced by the video adapter driver) and there is no corresponding BMP pixel format for this. Converting to a 16, 24 or 32bpp BMP format slows the program down considerably (as well as being lossy) so I am looking for a file format that can use this pixel format without conversion, so I can extract directly into the memory-mapped file as I have done with the 32bpp format. What raster image file formats support 48bpp and/or 64bpp?

• Java Robot key activity seems to stop working while certain software is running

  I'm writing a Java application to automate character actions in an online game overnight (specifically, it catches fish in Final Fantasy XI). The app makes heavy use of java's Robot class both for emulating user keyboard input and for detecting color changes on certain parts of the screen. It also uses multithreading and a swing GUI. The application seems to work perfectly when I test it without the game running, just using screenshots to trigger the apps responses into notepad. But for some reason, when I actually launch FFXI and start the program, all of my keyboard and mouse manipulations just stop working altogether. The program is still running, and the Robot class is still able to read pixel colors. But Robot.keyPress, Robot.keyRelease, Robot.mouseMove, Robot.mousePress and Robot.mouseRelease all do nothing. It's the strangest thing-- to test it, I wrote a simple loop that just keeps typing letters, and focused notepad. I'd then start the game, refocus notepad, and it would do nothing. Then I'd exit the game, and it'd start working again immediately. Has anyone else come across something like this, where specific software will stop certain functions of java from working? Also, to make this more interesting-- Last year I wrote a very similar program using the same classes and programming techniques to automate healing a party in the game as they fight. Last year, this program worked perfectly. After running into these problems I dug up that old program, ran it without making any changes, and found that it too was having the same problems. The only differences between now and when it was working: I was running Windows Vista and now I'm running Windows 7, and several new Java versions as well as FFXI versions have been released. • WatiN NativeElement.GetElementBounds() - What is the unit of measurement?

  When I'm testing with WatiN, I like to save screenshots. Sometimes I don't really need a picture of the whole browser window though - I just want a picture of the element that I'm testing. My attempt to save a picture of an element with the code below resulted in a picture of a block box, because elementBounds.Top points to a pixel position way past the bottom of the screen. The elementBounds.Width and .Height values also appear to be about half what they should be. • Writing to a file in Python inserts null bytes

  I'm writing a todo list program. It keeps a file with a thing to do per line, and lets the user add or delete items. The problem is that for some reason, I end up with a lot of zero bytes at the start of the file, even though the item is correctly deleted. I'll show you a couple of screenshots to make sure I'm making myself clear. • MVC UI with Mock Controllers?

  I'm working with Aspnet MVC 2 (R2) and at the same time playing about with the whole alt.net stack. One of this things I would like to be able todo is basically write my Views, and be able to interact with them without having to write the controller logic. E.g. I have a view that displays a list of orders and I can click on an order which redirects to another view where I can edit it, but I don't want to get into the nitty gritty of writing the code to actually get a list of orders, or update an existing ordes. I want to do so I can write UI tests in WaitN/AOT/Selenium without having to worry about whats happening underneath, and also It would help drive my controller logic on a need basis as opposed to guess work based of of the supplied screenshots How do you guys accomplish this atm? Can you provide links ot useful blog posts/tools/framework/articles with information on how to accomplish this p.s. I primarly use Rhino Mocks & NUnit but can happliy change to other tools if they support the above better.
