  • Can I associate my spare Elastic IP addresses to an Amazon EC2 instance started in an Autoscale group and Monitoring?

    I want to know if I can reserve a number of Amazon Elastic IP addresses and assign them to instances started by Autoscale. So basically, when a new instance is started because a trigger has been triggered can I also set the API to look for a spare IP address and allocate it to the instance. I need to do this because the started instance will need to communicate to a server outside the cloud and get through a firewall which will only allow remote access from a predefined set of IP addresses. So i think i need to reserve some IPs, add them to my firewall settings then allocate them (automatically) when a new instance is started. Any ideas?

I want to link to those other places on my domain from the top menu bar (nav bar) on my blog. How can I do that? Recently one of our WordPress apps hosted on our server has stopped being able to perform its auto-update or auto-download of plugins.     Ok, I've got this code that I've been using to spit out news to an application of mine. It was working until today. I've cutout all the logic in the following code to make it simpiler.     Hi, I have been using GD Star Rating plugin for a while now. I need my blog to allow users to rank posts, from a list of posts. I have One page which lists all posts. And I need to be able to rank each post from the list. I created a template and I am using [starrating template_id=45]. I need this, but with the posibility to rank from there. Is it possible??   • NAVT WordPress Plugin - Just a quick question

    Hi, I got this plugin and have created my list etc and it's appearing fine. However, I am wondering how I create a list under another list...like the second level part of the list? I'm trying to create a dropdown menu you see. In the admin, when I try and drag the item over, it will only let me put it in the first level, how do I get it to go under a sub-item? I would consult the NAVT blog etc but the documentation is so poor it's a kind of joke. But I guess it IS free :) Many thanks, Michael

    I have created a theme where I already have a custom options page where I let the user set text for footer, twitter user and some other things and that works well. Now i'd like to add the functionality of letting the user select which font that should be used for content on the site. How can i accomplish this? I can probably create a php file that outputs something like: <style type="text/css"> body{ font-family: <?php echo get_option('my-font');?>; } </style> and include that file in header.php, but that means that I have to hit php for every request for this css and I want to avoid that if posssible.

    Hi, I've looked everywhere and while there is solutions to change the uploads directory for all the blogs by changing this line in the wp-settings.php: define( "BLOGUPLOADDIR", WP_CONTENT_DIR . "/blogs.dir/{$wpdb->blogid}/files/" ); I can't find a way of changing the directory for each blog individually, something like: define( "BLOGUPLOADDIR", WP_CONTENT_DIR . "/blogs.dir/{$blog_name}/files/" ); But I have no idea how could I get the name of the blog from within the wp-settings.php as you can't use get_bloginfo('name'); outside of the template. Anybody with a solution for this?

    Hello, I'm creating a new WP theme and I would like to allow the user to insert a divider in between paragraphs or images he/she is entering, for a post/page. I want the output to be something like: <div class="divider"></div> But I don't want the user to have to enter HTML in the WYSIWYG editor. Is it possible to ask them to enter something like: <-- break --> and then translate that to the div markup on display? Thanks.

    I set up an amazon ec2 instance using ubuntu server edition. I install LAMP stack on it. I did up a php web app running on mysql. I have not officially launched, but I need to know this before launching. Should I backup my database data? If so, how should I do it as cost effective as possible? Previously for another web app, i wrote a perl or bash script (cannot remember) that will be executed by cron on a daily basis. The script will then backup the database into a single .sql file and send as email attachment to my gmail account. That web app was on shared hosting hence, I was quite sure i needed to do backup of my database. My files are on git repo so I am not worried about that. Please advise. I am totally unfamiliar with AWS. Only know as much as setting up an account. That is all. Thank you.

    I am trying to map subdomain to amazon ec2 with elastic IP. I already mapped the www.xxxexample.com to my shared hosting by giving the dns server name (ns1.justhost.com). And I created a many subdomains using the cpanel of shared hosting. Shared hosting is working fine. Amazon route53 is a paid service. So I dont want to use that service. I want to map my subdomain points to amazon ec2 instance and main domain already primarily mapped to shared hosting.     At the Amazon RDS FAQ there is the question "What is a database instance (DB Instance)?". The entire answer (as of mid-June 2012) is: You can think of a DB Instance as a database environment in the cloud with the compute and storage resources you specify. You can create and delete DB Instances, define/refine infrastructure attributes of your DB Instance(s), and control access and security via the AWS Management Console, Amazon RDS APIs, and Command Line Tools. Multiple MySQL databases or SQL Server databases (up to 30) or Oracle database schemas can be created on a given DB Instance. The last part of that quote, "Multiple MySQL databases or SQL Server databases (up to 30) Oracle database schemas" I interpret to mean that you can have an "unlimited" number of databases on an RDS MySQL or Oracle instance but only 30 databases on an MS SQL Server instance ("unlimited" meaning not limited by the RDS infrastructure itself). This was asked in the Stackoverflow question Does Amazon RDS support multiple databases per instance?. The answer quoted an older version of the FAQ. What I am looking for is an Amazon document that clarifies this question, or else someone who has experience using Amazon RDS who can attest what the situation actually is.

    I have a server set up through Amazon AWS. It's Amazon's RHEL-based AMI. When I initially booted up the machine, I set the proper timezone by creating a symlink: ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Los_Angeles /etc/localtime This works just fine, but whenever Amazon provides an update to their AMI the timezone automatically reverts to UTC. Is there a way around this or does it have to be manually set after each update?

    The issue is this : Our company has a website hosted on an IIS server. I have recently been given the task to configure a WordPress server for an eventual WordPress blog so that our social media employee could test and see how it works. This was completed successfully and easily on a new server and on a WAMP configuration. The website was published as wordpress.domain.com and works fine. HOWEVER! I have now been requested to ensure that the soon-to-go-online blog would be accessible through the address domain.com/blog. Is there a way to modify the original company website and simple redirect the /blog to the Apache WordPress website? If not, is there a way to transfer the wordpress.domain.com on the IIS server hosting the main website and keep the configuration? Is there a better solution that I haven't thought about (probably)? If so, what would you all suggest?
