• Typed DefaultListModel to avoid casting

  Is there a way in java to have a ListModel that only accepts a certain type? What I'm looking for is something like DefaultListModel<String> oder TypedListModel<String>, because the DefaultListModel only implements addElement(Object obj) and get(int index) which returns Object of course. That way I always have to cast from Object to e.g. String and there is no guarantee that there are only strings in my model, even though I'd like to enforce that. Is this a flaw or am I using list models the wrong way?

  i want to normalize date fields from an old badly designed db dump. i now need to update every row, where the datefield only contains the year. update table set date = '01.01.' + date where date like '____' and isnumeric(date) = 1 and date >= 1950 but this will not work, because sql does not do short circuit evaluation of boolean expressions. thus i get an error "error converting nvarchar '01.07.1989' to int" is there a way to work around this? the column also contains strings with a length of 4, which are not numbers (????, 5/96, 70/8, etc.) the table only has 60000 rows

  Whilst asking this question asp.net scheduling timed events user murph posted some insightful information: Point about this is that its very, very simple - you have an process for exchange that is performing a clearly defined task and you have a high frequency task that is not doing anything particularly complex, its a straightforward query (select from table where sent = false and send at < value) - probably into temporary table so that you can run a single query update after you've done the sends - that you can optimise the index for. You're not trying to queue up a huge pile of event triggers, just one that fires once a minute and processes things that are due. Is it possible to SELECT data from table X INTO table Y and have the UPDATES that are performed on table Y pushed into table X? I guess the alternative would be that the data gets updated in table Y then an update command can be run on table X based on the data in table Y. What would be the advantage of selecting into another table? Thank you,

• PHP Linefeeds (\n) Not Working

  For some reason I can't use \n to create a linefeed when outputting to a file with PHP. It just writes "\n" to the file. I've tried using "\\n" as well, where it just writes "\n" (as expected). But I can't for the life of me figure out why adding \n to my strings isn't creating new lines. I've also tried \r\n but it just appends "\r\n" to the line in the file. Example: error_log('test\n', 3, 'error.log'); error_log('test2\n', 3, 'error.log'); Outputs: test\ntest2\n Using MAMP on OSX in case that matters (some sort of PHP config thing maybe?). Any suggestions?

  I read that object dependencies have been improved in SQL server 2008. I have a rather complex database schema containing stored procedure, user-defined functions, triggers. Can anybody give me a query that would return the right order of creation of those items based on their dependencies ? I read here that there are tools that can do the job, but I am looking for something scriptable. Also, they often give the dependencies of one object and I would like a database-wide solution.   I'm writing a GUI program and decided to go native on all platforms. But for all the stuff i need to draw myself i would like to use the same drawing routines because font and unicode handling is so difficult and complex. Do you see any negative points in useing Pango/Cairo. Well on MacOSX i havent succeded installing Pango/Cairo yet. Looks like a bad Omen. I would also like to hear about the performance penality. The first time i looked at Pango i thought, yes thats the reason why Software is still getting despite better hardware.

The warning it gives me is 'UITextView' may not respond to '-stringByAppendingString:' When I replace output with at string it works though and that confused me. Any suggestions?   I'm developing a web application that will require users to either make one time deposits of money into their account, or allow users to sign up for recurring billing each month for a certain amount of money. I've been looking at various payment gateways, but most (if not all) of them seem complex and difficult to get working. I also see no real active Django projects which offer simple views for making payments. Ideally, I'd like to use something like Amazon FPS, so that I can see online transaction logs, refund money, etc., but I'm open to other things. I just want the EASIEST possible payment gateway to integrate with my site. I'm not looking for anything fancy, whatever does the job, and requires < 10 hours to get working from start to finish would be perfect. I'll give answer points to whoever can point out a good one.   Hi, I'm working with an animator for the iPhone. The animator I'm working with isn't a programmer and has a background in Flash. (right now she's doing the animation in Flash and I need to convert to Objective C). For some it's ok because I can just use image frames, but there are more complex animation that would take longer for me to convert to Objective C. Right now, my script run through a for loop echoing each value to the standard output: for value in ${values[@]} do echo $value done Yeah, that's pretty ugly! And the one column listing is pretty long too... I was wondering if i can find a command or builtin helping me to display all those values in columns, like the ls command does by default when listing a directory (ls -C).   I have a datagridview in a windows form with 3 columns: Serial number, Name and Date-Time. The Name column will always have either of the two values: "name1" or "name2". I need to sort these columns such that the grid displays all the rows with name values in a specific order (first display all the "name1" rows and then all the "name2" rows). Within the "name1" rows, I want the rows to be sorted by the Date-Time. Please note programmatically, all the 3 columns are strings.   I was too excited when object initializer appeared in C#. MyClass a = new MyClass(); a.Field1 = Value1; a.Field2 = Value2; can be rewritten shorter: MyClass a = new MyClass { Field1 = Value1, Field2 = Value2 } Object initializer code is more obvious but when properties number come to dozen and some of the assignment deals with nullable values it's hard to debug where the "null reference error" is. Studio shows the whole object initializer as error point. Nowadays I use object initializer for straightforward assignment only for error-free properties. How do you use object initializer for complex assignment or it's a bad practice to use dozen of assigments at all? Thank you in advance!

• Why am I getting "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute" when not modifying

  I have two collections of strings: CollectionA is a StringCollection property of an object stored in the system, while CollectionB is a List generated at runtime. CollectionA needs to be updated to match CollectionB if there are any differences. So I devised what I expected to be a simple LINQ method to perform the removal. var strDifferences = CollectionA.Where(foo => !CollectionB.Contains(foo)); foreach (var strVar in strDifferences) { CollectionA.Remove(strVar); } But I am getting a "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute" error on strDifferences... even though it is a separate enumerable from the collection being modified! I originally devised this explicitly to evade this error, as my first implementation would produce it (as I was enumerating across CollectionA and just removing when !CollectionB.Contains(str)). Can anyone shed some insight into why this enumeration is failing?

• Possible to InvalidateVisual() on a given region instead of entire WPF control?

  I have a complex WPF control that draws a lot of primitives in its OnRender (it's sort of like a map). When a small portion of it changes, I'd only like to re-issue render commands for the affected elements, instead of running the entire OnRender over. While I'm fine with my OnRender function's performance on a resize or whatever, it's not fast enough for mouse hover-based highlighting of primitives. Currently the only way I know how to force a screen update is to call InvalidateVisual(). No way to send in a dirty rect region to invalidate. Is the lowest granularity of WPF screen composition the UI element? Will I need to do my renders of primitives into an intermediate target and then have that use InvalidateVisual() to update to the screen?

I want to search and find out which of these database strings are inside the string I provide (and get the IDs of them). Is there a way of using a query to search the provided string or must it be taken to application space? Am I right in thinking that this is not a 'full text search'? Would the best method be to insert it into the database to make it a full text search?

For example, in case of Indian standard time, On one of the system we are getting "GMT+5:30": while on another we are getting "Asia/Calcutta". • Huge AS 3.0 Export Frame

  I am creating a very simple flash animation with no code or complex effects, just text and simple tweens (Flash CS5) But I have problems reducing the size of my swf. From the generated size report, it looks like it has to do with fonts and/or exported actionscript classes. The frame with AS 3.0 Classes is over 100K, and even though I am only using one fonts, the same characters are embedded/exported multiple times My questions are: Do embedding of mixed TLF/Classic text (or mixing other text properties, spacing/kerning etc) require the same characters to be embedded twice? Do text transformations on TLF text (rotation and different transformations not available in classic text) require embedding of ("internal") AS3 classes that will increase the size of the .swf? (even though none of these classes are explicitly used by me, there are no scripts in the fla project) I have tried removing all the text instances one by one, and at one point, the swf is reduced to only 5-6K, but I am not able to pinpoint exactly what causes the ballooning of the swf
