• Character encoding issues in MySQL

  In my database we have fields where the data is not readable. I now know why it happened but I don't know how to fix it. I found a way to get the info back from the database: SELECT id, name FROM projects WHERE LENGTH(name) != CHAR_LENGTH(name); One of the rows returned shows: id | name ------------------------- 1008 | Cajón el Diablo This should be: id | name ------------------------- 1008 | Cajón el Diablo Can somebody help me figure out how to fix this problem? How can I convert this using SQL? Is SQL not good? If not, how about Python?

• Convert UTC date to actual date and time

  I have a chart of bitcoin prices. I have the correct prices on the Y-axis, but I cannot get the correct time on the X-axis. The time shows up in a UTC format in my console. I am adding price and date to the series each iteration. I need to get the date of that particular result and find the YEAR, MONTH and DAY of that so I can put it in the right format. • is there a way to use cin.getline() without having to define a char array size before hand?

  Basically my task is having to sort a bunch of strings of variable length ignoring case. I understand there is a function strcasecmp() that compares cstrings, but doesn't work on strings. Right now I'm using getline() for strings so I can just read in the strings one line at a time. I add these to a vector of strings, then convert to cstrings for each call of strcasecmp(). Instead of having to convert each string to a cstring before comparing with strcasecmp(), I was wondering if there was a way I could use cin.getline() for cstrings without having a predefined char array size. Or, would the best solution be to just read in string, convert to cstring, store in vector, then sort?

• Passing an array argument from C# to a C++/CLI method

  I know only very little about C++/CLI, but I have a simple problem that needs a solution. I have a C++/CLI class method that takes a byte-array as a parameter. The array is of a pre-determined length, and can be allocated in C# beforehand. The array is supposed to be filled with data by the C++/CLI method. How do I declare the method and then call it from C#? I tried something like having the following in my C++/CLI class: public ref class C { public: void FillBytes(array<BYTE^>^ bytes); }; And then, in C#: o = new C(); var bytes = new byte[3]; o.FillBytes(bytes); But that didn't work at all :).

• What is the best way to keep database data encrypted with user passwords?

  Let's say an application has really specific data which belongs to a user, and nobody is supposed to see it except the owner. I use MySQL database with DataMapper ORM mapper. The application is written in Ruby on Sinatra. Application behavior: User signs up for an account. Creates username and password. Logs into his dashboard. Some fields in specific tables must be protected. Basically, I'm looking for auto-encryption for a model properties. Something like this: class Transaction include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :value, String, :length => 1024, :encrypted => true ... etc ... belongs_to :user end I assume that encryption/decryption on the fly will cause performance problems, but that's ok. At least if that works - I'm fine. Any ideas how to do this?

• C# Get video file duration from metadata

  I am trying to read metadata from a file. I only need the Video - Length property, however I am unable to find a simple way of reading this information. I figured this would be fairly easy since it is visible by default in Explorer, however this looks to be way more complicated than I anticipated. The closest I came was using: Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback.Video video = new Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback.Video(str); double duration = video.Duration; However this throws a LoaderLock exception, and I don't know how to deal with it. Any ideas?

• Javascript Replace Child/Loop issue

  I have this really bizarre issue where I have a forloop that is supposed to replace all divs with the class of "original" to text inputs with a class of "new". When I run the loop, it only replaces every-other div with an input, but if I run the loop to just replace the class of the div and not change the tag to input, it does every single div, and doesn't only do every-other. • jQuery dialog box not opening 2nd time

  I found this thread which basically has the same issue I have. But their solution is not working for me. The dialog appears the first time I click the submit button, but not the 2nd time. I'm opening the dialog box after a form submission. UPDATE I finally got it working. • How to deal with callback to your UIController after your UIController unloads?

  Suppose your controller is a table view and one of the cells you are going off to do a length task (say download a thumbnail) to be viewed in the cell. Typically you would have the network call do a callback to your controller when it is done downloading. The callback can then reload the table or do some other form of UI update (hides a spinner etc). However, what if the controller is unloaded? Say the user navigated away from this controller and it got released? What happens? Will the callback still work despite the controller now not in memory? Also, if the callback operates on some objects (say the UITableView) what happens when the controller is deallocated? I suppose the controller can release all the objects and the callback would just be calling methods on nil to prevent crash. But is this the convention?

  I have a simple list of strings, which may be of arbitrary length. I'd like to be able to use this list of strings as I would use a rowset. The app in question is running against SQL Server. To be clearer, if I do SELECT 'foo', 'bar', 'baz' I get 'foo', 'bar', and 'baz' as fields in a single row. I'd like to see each one of them as a separate row. Is there a SQL (or SQLServer-specific) function or technique that I'm missing, or am I going to have to resort to writing a function in an external scripting language?

  given a large list of alphabetically sorted words in a file,I need to write a program that, given a word x, determines if x is in the list. Preprocessing is ok since I will be calling this function many times over different inputs. priorties: 1. speed. 2. memory I already know I can use (n is number of words, m is average length of the words) 1. a trie, time is O(log(n)), space(best case) is O(log(n*m)), space(worst case) is O(n*m). 2. load the complete list into memory, then binary search, time is O(log(n)), space is O(n*m) I'm not sure about the complexity on tri, please correct me if they are wrong. Also are there other good approaches?

• How to properly align textboxes on a webpage with labels

  Hi, this is a CSS / design question. I have three textboxes that i want to be center aligned on a web page. Then i want a label description to the right of each one. When i use attribute like text:align:centre because the labels are of different length it throws out the aligment of the textboxes [see image link below] http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=qcyoajm2iuk Is there an easy way of keeping the textboxes aligned and then have the labels off the to the right without changing the textboxes?
