  • VMware ESXi 4.1 snapshot of server 2008R2 machine generates 2 indentical snapshots

    I have 2 VMs that are failing to get veeam backups, and it appears that the culprit is vmware snapshots. We are running Vsphere ESXi 4.1 build 320092, we have multiple server 2008R2 machines that take snapshots fine, but when with these two VMs when I take a snapshot I get 2 identical snapshots a few seconds apart. The snapshot manager only shows 1 snapshot, but there are 2 files 1 number off, that are identical sizes. There is only one disk on each VM, so that isn't the problem. Has anyone seen this behavior before and know how to fix it?   • SQLite bulk insert on iPhone not working

    Hi. I have been struggling with this seeminly easy problem for 48 hours, and I am no closer to a solution. So I was hoping that someone might be able to help me. I am building a app, that use a combination of a local (SQLite) database and an online database (PHP/MYSQL). The app is nearly finished. Checked for leaks and work like a charm. However the very last part is the part I have struggled with. On launch, I want the app to check for changes to the online databse, and if there is. I want it to download and parse a xml file containing the changes. Everything is working fine this far. But when I try to bulk insert my parsed data to my database, the app crashes, giving a NSInternalInconsistency error. Due to the database returning SQLITE_MISUSE. I have done a lot of googling, but am still unable to solve my problem. So I am putting the code here, hoping that someone can help me fix this. And I know that I should have used core data for this. But this is the very last part I am struggling with, and I am very reluctant to changing my entire code now. Core data will have to come in the update.     I'm currently writing SDK documentation for one of our products, but for obvious reasons I don't want to talk about the essentials of OOP. Does anyone know any good online teaching material that explain (aimed at absolute beginners) concepts such as classes, inheritance, constructors, instances etc.? Preferably urls that are likely to survive for a couple of years to come... It's a DotNET SDK and we're including only VB and C# samples, so C++ or Delphi or Lisp material is not that useful.

  • BackupExec 2012 File System Archiving - Access is denied to Remote Agent

    Gentlemen, I've been struggling with a Trial version of Symantec Backup Exec 2012 for about a week now. It was installed as an upgrade to our 12.5 license, and the setup completed with no issues. The reason I upgraded is solely for the File System Archiving option as I'm working to reduce the amount of live data in my servers. Backups work A-Ok and I have followed the instructions in the Admin Manual to make sure I had filled all requirements. The account BE is running under is a member of the Local administrators group as required and has been added to the test share that I'm using to evaluate the archiving function. Testing the credentials in the job setup window always works fine, and I am able to add both regular and Admin$ shares to my Archive selection. However, every time I run the Archive job, I get the following message: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/59540229/BEXec.png I've already tried to troubleshoot DNS resolution issues as suggested in the Symantec KB to no avail. The only thing I can think of, at this point, is that a trial license doesn't allow me to use the Archiving function, although that would seem silly on their part.   • Most cost efficient way to backup Subversion data to S3?

    I'm looking at using S3 as an offsite backup repo for my Subversion database. When I dump my SVN database, it's about 10 gigabytes. I would like to avoid the charge of uploading that data repeatedly. The anatomy of this large file such that new changes to Subversion modify the tail of the file, with everything else staying the same. Because Amazon S3 does not allow you to "patch" files with changes, I will have to upload ten gigs every time I instantiate a backup after doing a simple submit to Subversion. Here are the options as I see them: Option 1 I am looking at duplicity which has --volsize which splits data over an amount of megs. Is it possible to split the Subversion dumps using this so further incremental backups are measured in megabytes? Option 2 Can I just backup the hot subversion repository? This seems like a bad idea if it is in the middle of writing a submit. However, I have the option of taking the repo offline between the hours of midnight and 4am. Each revision in my Berkeley DB uses a file as its record.

  • How do I change the Dropbox directory on a headless GNU/Linux server?

    I have installed Dropbox 2.0.0 via command line on my home server (Ubuntu Server 12.04) to use for off-site automated backups, but I can't change the directory that the Dropbox daemon keeps synced. I've tried the following: The official docs say to use the desktop application, which is not applicable in my situation. However I installed the desktop app on my desktop machine and changed the default folder location, but I can't find where this change is stored in the ~/.dropbox/ directory so I can make the same change on the server. This page (and several others) recommends a Python script to do the job. Looking at the script, it opens a SQLite database called ~/.dropbox/dropbox.db, which does not exist on my Dropbox install, leading me to believe the script is out-of-date. This forum thread suggests manually inserting the required row in the config.db database, which I did, but it made no difference. I checked the same database file on my desktop machine, and it does not have the dropbox_path key, so I'm presuming the information in that thread is also out of date for version 2.0. I have tried to launch the Dropbox GUI configuration wizard over SSH with X11 forwarding, as suggested in one of the answers, but the binary must detect the absence of a local X11 install and it starts a command line daemon instead, which provides no means to change the option I need. I am currently using a symlink, as suggested as an answer, but this is a kludge. I would like to know the correct way to make the change. How do I change the Dropbox directory on a headless GNU/Linux server? Update: I've ditched Dropbox and started using Copy. Their Linux tools and support is far superior to Dropbox. I leave this question here in case someone, someday, can answer it.

  • Why do HTTP loopback connections not work on my subdomains?

    I have a shared hosting account at Jumba running Linux kernel 2.6.9-103.ELsmp (don't know if that helps) with cpanel 1.0 (RC1). I am using the WordPress plugin Backup Buddy, which requires HTTP loopback connections to monitor / complete backups. This works fine on memelab.com.au, but doesn't work at any subdomain (e.g.: staging.memelab.com.au). Is it possible to setup an A record or some such to remedy this? I'm aware of a workaround, (setting WP_ALTERNATE_CRON) but I find this unsatisfactory due to the messy URLs. BackupBuddy:_Frequent_Support_Issues#HTTP_Loopback_Connections_Disabled Here is the reply from my host: …as main domain have it's own separate DNS entry it have localhost entry which helps for looback connections where as subdomains don't have separate DNS zone, so it is not possible to create looback connections for it. I have cpanel access to the 'advanced zone editor' - is there anything tricky I can do there? maybe 127.0.0.2? (I remember reading that there were at least 8 available local IPs available on (some) Linuxes.) All the A records point to the server IP, with the exception of localhost.memelab.com.au which points to 127.0.0.1. I've just tried entering a new A record: localhost.itours.memelab.com.au pointing to 127.0.0.2. I still get the warning in Backup Buddy that loopback is not active, and Cpanel won't let me enter 127.0.0.1 (guess it doesn't work like that!) nslookup itours.memelab.com.au Server: 203.88.112.33 Address: 203.88.112.33#53 Non-authoritative answer: Name: itours.memelab.com.au Address: 117.55.224.177

    I know that different DBMSes support different aggregate functions; for example: MySQL's aggregates Oracle's aggregates I want to get the list of aggregates mandated by the SQL standard. Or, to be more precise, the lists of mandatory aggregates for SQL 1992, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2011 - with 2011 being the most important to me. Edit: Of course if I buy a copy of the standards I could compile these lists myself. My question is whether they're accessible somewhere online.
