• A good architecture is evil? Hardcode forever?

  I have worked in many companies. Most of all reached a big success in their field. Some times I found the code was written by owner or co-owner or the first developer of this company. It was strange from architectural point of view code or awful code styled, or hardcoded and so on. I know a couple of startups, that were grown up and were started from the "one night" code. Is it only way to get success to write code in this way? Why does a code written "on knee" but in time is better than delayed well thought-out one? What about future? Which way is the best: to write a good architecture, code and spend some more time at the startup or to write "fast" and hardcoded one that would be completely (partially) throw out (or maybe wouldn't) after some period of time (or never)?

  On my webpage when i press command link its opening a new page perfectly on IE7/Firefox 3/Chrome/Safari 4.0.4 but after this none of the parent page's command buttons are not working ,this happens only in safari.I am using JSF 1.2 mojara. • jQuery event fires on doc ready

  I am trying to set the click event of a button on my form and for some reason I am getting weird behavior. When I bind the click event to a function that takes no arguments, things seem to work fine. But when I bind the event with a function that takes an argument, the event fires on document ready and on click. Any ideas? Example 1: This causes an alert box to fire on ready and when the button is clicked. jQuery(document).ready(function(){ $('myButton').click(alert('foo')); }); Example 2: This causes an alert box to fire ONLY when the button is clicked. jQuery(document).ready(function(){ $('myButton').click(wrapper); }); // External js file function wrapper(){ alert('bar'); }

  I am able to get the list of network printers via this code: private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { foreach (String printer in PrinterSettings.InstalledPrinters) { listBox1.Items.Add(printer.ToString()); } } For each network printer, I want to extract out more information like: (a) get document information, like number of pages printed, filename, file-size, etc. (b) get computer IP address from which document was printed. (c) get username of who printed the document. How do I achieve the above? any code samples would be appreciated. Do I have to look into Windows Management Instrumentation(WMI) stuffs?

• Visual studio deployment project error when writing to registry

  Hello I have a setup for an application that was recently converted to be a framework 4.0 project (don't know if it's relevant). The setup has to write to registry (Local Machine) and until now this has always worked perfectly, however now it fails to write to registry on a clean machine (running Windows 7, 64 bit). The setup does not fail, does not show a warning of any kind, however it does not write to the registry (I even set AlwaysCreate property to true on every key, just in case) which of course causes the application to terminate on startup. What could be the cause of this? I have never encountered such an error before. Edit: I have tried running the installer as administrator, didn't change anything.

• Mouseup not working after mousemove on img

  I'm trying to do a simple drag script. The idea is to save the position when the mouse is down, update the view while the mouse is moving, and stop when mouse is up. Problem, mouseup event isn't working properly.   Hello I have some question about naive bayes classifier . In my project I have to classify a text into a class from 4 available class. In naive bayes we have formula like cmap=argmax.P(d|c).P(c) I have standarize the amount of training document of each class, so I got a same P(c) value for each class (0.25). Here's my question: What if a testing document token doesn't have any token which belong to any of those 4 class(in document training)? Resulted to all of the class have same value of P(d|c).P(c). Which class should i pick? What if the token exist, and 2 class or more have same value of P(d|c).P(c) what should I do? Thank you..

All of these (at least that I had found) tell how to use it without much explanation why and how it works. What will happen if I don't? Or what will happen if instead of EnterUpgradeableReadLock I will call EnterWriteLock and will write to a resource without using upgradeable lock at all?

• border highlighting loop with jquery

  I'm having trouble coming up with a loop that changes the border color of an image from black to yellow and yellow to black over x seconds. Then applying an interrupt to the loop when the image gets clicked on. I don't know where to start, can someone point me in the right direction? I think I may be using the wrong tools to properly write this. Here's what I've come up so far, though if there's a better way to write this, do share! for( i = 100; i >= 0; i--) { $("#imgid").css("border-color", 'rgb(' + i + '%,' + i + '%,0)'); } I'm having trouble picturing how I could combine two loops so that I can also count upwards as well so that it will turn into yellow and back to black. I also don't know how to go about controlling the amount of time it takes for that loop to execute and creating an interrupt when #imigid is clicked. Which is where I'm not sure how to write.

• PDF Viewer Showing Last Page...

  I have a asp.net app that writes a pdf to file. Then, later that file is opened into a window (standard acrobat reader) for viewing. No problems there. The weird part... The entire document loads as it should, but the Reader initially shows the last page in the document on the screen. The user must then scroll up to the first page. It doesn't happen all the time (about 50%) and occurs across several test computers. Is there a switch in the code I'm suppose to use in creating the file or displaying the file to tell the reader to "start displaying the document on the first page?" Environment particulars: asp.net 3.5 vb, websupergoo's abcpdf.net pro 7 (assembly that creates the pdf file), Windows 2008 Server, IIS7 Thanks

  I'm using google maps api to have a map show up on my website where visitors can also find directions. I have a starting point setup and an end point. Both are text areas. The start is empty, but I want the end point to be populated with the address from a div that I already have in the page. I have the javascript as: var address = document.getElementById("address").innerText.replace(/\n/g, " "); It works in Chrome, but Firefox shows the text in the endpoint box as 'undefined.' • Need help writing a recurring task scheduler.

  I need to write a tool that will run a recurring task on a user configurable schedule. I'll write it in C# 3.5 and it will run on XP, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008. The tasks take about 20 minutes to complete. The users will probably want to set up several configurations: e.g, daily, weekly, and monthly cycles. Using Task Scheduler is not an option. The user will schedule recurrences through an interface similar to Outlook's recurring appointment dialog. Once they set up the schedule they will start it up and it should sit in the system tray and kick off its tasks at the appointed times, then send mail to indicate it has finished. What is the best way to write this so that it doesn't eat up resources, lock up the host, or otherwise misbehave?

  Hi, is it possible to capture a click event on a scrollbar? I have some code where i am observing the click and mousedown events on the document. However, it seems that when I click on the scrollbar, the event is not captured. This leads me to believe that the scrollbars aren't really part of the document. (Assumption :-)) Is this a correct assumption? I cannot find the document that describes how to write custom form fields and widgets. Does this document exist? The way I've been able to write custom form fields and widgets is by reading the Django source code and imitating what I see there. I know that there are still things about implementing fields and widgets that I do not completely understand because I have not read any high level document that describes their interfaces.

The file may not exist, in this case I want to just write an object to the dictionary and then write it down the problem is that when i do setObject forKey it doesn't add anything to the dict (if i just do alloc init to the dict, it works fine, but i want to read the records from the file, if there are any, and replace/add a record by using the AddAddress function)

  How can I switch to the document to the left or right of the current document in Notepad++? For example, if I have documents A, B, and C open, and I'm currently editing B, I would like a shortcut to be able to switch to A (Alt-LeftArrow or Ctrl-Pageup) or C (Alt-RightArrow or Ctrl-PageDown). Is this possible? All I've found is a way to switch to next or previous documents based on the "history" of when the document was last opened (Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab), which are useful, but not what I want.

I didn't have troubles making it return false if the submitted value was 0 but I cannot make it return false when it's the string 'Cambia de ciudad". • Iframe auto-height not working when page changes in IE

In other browsers the iframe gets resized, because the onload event fires each time. I'm using IE8 but the outer page is setting it to IE7 compatibility mode. Is there a workaround for IE?

• Modular HTML in Adobe AIR? Is It Possible?

  When I write HTML with a PHP backend, I usually have a single header file and a single footer file with some PHP variables in them. The base skeleton for every page calls the header, contains the body content, and then calls the footer. That way, if I want to make changes to the header sitewide, I change one file. I'm working on developing the UI in my first Adobe AIR app and I'm wondering if there's some way to include such files in an HTML based page template there. Obviously, with the file read/write abilities in AIR, I can write a Javascript routine to pull data from a header file, parse it, and inject it into a placeholder. It just seems like such a kludge. I'm thinking there's gotta be some simple way to import a block of HTML into a page without an iFrame or complex post-processor. Something like a PHP include statement or perhaps the old Server Side Includes. Any methods you guys can recommend?

• Async stream writing in a thread

The problem is that the thread is blocked until the first one finishes writing (until all data is transferred on the other side of the pipe), and I don't want that. • What is Perl's secret of getting small code do so much?

  I've seen many (code-golf) Perl programs out there and even if I can't read them (Don't know Perl) I wonder how you can manage to get such a small bit of code to do what would take 20 lines in some other programming language. What is the secret of Perl? Is there a special syntax that allows you to do complex tasks in few keystrokes? Is it the mix of regular expressions? I'd like to learn how to write powerful and yet short programs like the ones you know from the code-golf challenges here. What would be the best place to start out? I don't want to learn "clean" Perl - I want to write scripts even I don't understand anymore after a week. If there are other programming languages out there with which I can write even shorter code, please tell me.
