• Different icons and title for same iPad application

  I'm developing an iPad application that will be distributed "in-house" ie only inside enterprise. They asked me if i can produce 2 different releases of the same application to be installed on the same iPad. The first one will communicate with a production server while the second will use a sandbox server and will be used by user to learn the system. Server url will be changed in app settings. They told me to differentiate these releases by icon and title (and also, of course, by title in navigation bar). What's the best way to get this goal avoiding duplication of the project?

• How does Scrum work when you have multiple projects?

  I'm fairly well read in the benefits and processes of Scrum. I get the ideas on the backlog, burndown charts, iterations, using user stories, and other various concepts of the Scrum "framework". With that said... I work for a web development firm that manages multiple projects at one time, with six team members that make up the "production team". How does Scrum work with having multiple projects? Do you still just schedule an iteration for a single project in a certain amount of time and the entire team works on it, and then you move on to the next project with a new iteration when that iteration is completed? Or is there an "agile" way in managing multiple projects with their own iterations with only one team at the same time?

• Problem with httpContext.RewritePath on IIS 7

  I am using httpContext.RewritePath in Global.asax for som URLrewriting, and it works very well in my development environment on the Cassini server. But when I copy it to the production server, witch is a IIS 7 it isn't working. I have also tried to use Context.Server.TransferRequest but thne I get the error: "This operation requires IIS integrated pipeline mode." on both Cassini and IIS 7, and on IIS 7 the website is running in "Integreret" mode in the AppPool. I rewrite all urls on the website like /[The main menuname]/[pagename].aspx fx from /web/thesite.aspx?mainmenu=manager to /manager/thesite.aspx OR /web/theOtherSite.aspx?mainmenu=about to /about/theOtherSite.aspx And so on... • Is it bad practice to use Reflection in Unit testing?

  During the last years I always thought that in Java, Reflection is widely used during Unit testing. Since some of the variables/methods which have to be checked are private, it is somehow necessary to read the values of them. I always thought that the Reflection API is also used for this purpose. Last week i had to test some packages and therefore write some JUnit tests. As always i used Reflection to access private fields and methods. But my supervisor who checked the code wasn't really happy with that and told me that the Reflection API wasn't meant to use for such "hacking". Instead he suggested to modifiy the visibility in the production code. Is it really bad practice to use Reflection? I can't really believe that

• ASP.NET Template Selector/Builder - Dynamic CMS

  I am currently building my own CMS for various reasons that could take a long to explain... However i am looking for a dynamic solution to create templates for pages within the CMS and all areas must be editable via the administration area, maybe large text areas broken into multiple areas, text and image area on a page etc. Following on from the above i would like to create the following: Create a new page (selecting a pre-defined template like below) http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9872/nestedpages.png and then upon editing the page it would have created as many text editors required for each editable region or a file upload control for an image area for example. i am thinking of using nested masterpages for the design elements, just unsure the best-practice way to achieve the above (db structure etc) I somehow hope this provides enough information but are happy to answer any questions you may have.   When mapping a HasMany or HasManyToMany in fluent nhibernate, you can specify the column name to use for the list as a parameter to the AsList() method as follows: HasMany(c => c.Customers) .AsList(c => c.Column("PositionIndex")); I would prefer to be able to set this using a Fluent NHibernate convention (either a pre-existing one, or a custom one), especially since the default name appears to be "Index" which is a reserved word in MSSQL. I've tried using a custom convention implementing IHasManyConvention, but the instance parameter does not seem to contain the information about whether its a list, a bag, or a set, and also does not contain the column details for the index column. public void Apply(IOneToManyCollectionInstance instance) { } Any ideas?

There is something wrong in the data that causes an Exception, and I need the data in my local environment to do debugging. I looked at django-extensions and the dumpscript command is almost what I want. But I have many other objects connected to this one via foreign keys. Is there an easy way to extract the object by primary key, and all other objects that are related to it?

  Hi, we are 5 developers working in an svn environment. every programmer can work on small bugs and commit whenever he wants. after the work has done, i want to give them the way to deploy to the production without considering the other programmers and their deployment. for example: while i am committing, other user is committing too but he did not finish to commit. his revisions 1,3 my revisions 2,4 if i will deploy the HEAD(4), ill also deploy his work. and i will deploy 2 and 4 i will include his files as well. how can i free every programmer to deploy his files only? • Get binary data from audio impulses

  I have IR sensor which have TRS plug and I can record my remotes signals into audio. Now I want to control my computer with TV remote, but I don't have any clue how to compare audio input with pre-recorded audio. But after I realized that these audio waves contains only some kind data (binary) I can turn these into binary or hex, so it is much easier to compare. Waves look just like this: http://i.imgur.com/lCIyl.png And this: ttp://i.imgur.com/goJ6d.png These are records of "OK" button, sometimes there are some impulses on right channel too and I don't know why, it seems like connections in sensor are damaged maybe. Ok thats not matter, anyway I need help with python program which read these impulses and turn these into binary, in realtime from audio input(mic). I know it's sounds like "Do it for me, while I enjoy my life", but I don't have experiences with sound transforming/reading... I've looking for python examples for recording and reading audio, but unsuccessfully.

• Creating a sub site in SharePoint takes a very long time

  Hi, I am working in a MOSS 2007 project and have customized many parts of it. There is a problem in the production server where it takes a very long time (more than 15 minutes, sometimes fails due to timeouts) to create a sub site (even with the built-in site templates). While in the development server, it only takes 1 to 2 minutes. Both servers are having same configuration with 8 cores CPU and 8 GIGs RAM. Both are using separate database servers with the same configuration. The content db size is around 100 GB. More than a hundred subsites are there. What could be the reason why in the other server it will take so much time? Is there any configuration or something else I need to take care? Thanks a lot, all helps are appreciated.

• Error messages in ASP.NET with jQuery UI

  I've been using my own Error reporting module which was combination of simple c# and jQueryUI Dialog. Problem is that once error or success occurs i do write it's value to session. It does work pretty good on pages with Responce.Redirect on error but not on pages where i catch an error and then return to same form. My question is why does session which added pre-postback fails to load in pages where i have return statement on some condition. And if there another way to save errors and success message except in session ? Maybe global variables or something like that ...

• Drupal Error After Logging In

  Hello everyone. I'm kinda new to using drupal and i'm just wondering why I kind of get this error on my new site. See i have this website under WampServer running drupal6-16. Everytime I log in with my pre-created admin account 'admin01' pass: 'admin01' i get redirected to the WampServer localhost which appears to be unusual since the header does not have the WampServer logo. I already tried creating a new drupal website with the same database and the same thing happens. Also, I tried creating another website with a new database but I copied the other website's theme and other contents and the same thing happens. Help me please. I am losing my grip on this. :( Note: I have the same website running on one PC and i am just trying to run it on another PC by copying all its contents. The original copy is working perfectly but I can't seem to get the hook on my new copies to work on other PCs.

• Change notification in CouchDB when a field is set

  Hi, I'm trying to get notifications in a CouchDB change poll as soon as pre-defined field is set or changed. I've already had a look at filters that can be used for filtering change events(db/_changes?filter=myfilter). However, I've not yet found a way to include this temporal information, because you can only get the current version of the document in this filter functions. Is there any possibility to create such a filter? If it does not work, I could export my field to a separate database and the only poll for changes in that db, but I'd prefer to keep together my data for obvious reasons. Thanks in advance!

• GAE app.yaml appears to be inconsistently routing requests

  I have the following in app.yaml: - url: /gae_mini_profiler/static static_dir: gae_mini_profiler/static - url: /gae_mini_profiler/.* script: gae_mini_profiler/main.py - url: .* script: main.py and the following in gae_mini_profiler/main.py: def main(): logging.critical("gae_mini_profiler request!") run_wsgi_app(application) However, when I fire requests to, say, /gae_mini_profiler/request?request=ABC, and repeatedly reload the page, sometimes I will get the proper response (as well as a "gae_mini_profiler request!" log entry, and sometimes I get a blank response and nothing in the App Engine logs other than a 200 with an empty response body. This is completely reproducible, only happens in the live environment, and I'd say ~50% of the refreshes work while 50% do not. This only happens in production. Any ideas?

  Disclaimers: I am not interested in doing this in any real production code. I make no claim that there's a good reason why I'm interested in doing this. I realize that if this is in any way possible, it must involve doing some highly inadvisable things. That said... is this possible? I'm really just curious to know. In other words, if I have something like this: int i = GetSomeInteger(); Is there any way from within GetSomeInteger that the code could be "aware of" the fact that it's being called in an assignment to the variable i? Again: no interest in doing this in any sort of real scenario. Just curious!

  Hello i am new on Silverlight, i tring to make a base for a button and that button will change the central image accoring to the situation, however some parts will continue the same, for this reason i make a UserControl and i call that user Control from the code and add to the grid that i need. But this Usercontrol that i am trying to add have a style pre-defined and i don´t geted how i change de image background. • We failed trying database per custom installation. Plan to recover?

  There is a web application which is in production mode for 3 years or so by now. Historically, because of different reasons there was made a decision to use database-per customer installation. Now we came across the fact that now deployments are very slow. Should we ever consider moving all the databases back to single one to reduce environment complexity? Or is it too risky idea? The problem I see now is that it's very hard to merge these databases with saving referential integrity(primary keys of different database' tables can not be obviously differentiated). Databases are not that much big, so we don't have much benefits of reduced load by having multiple databases.

• Capistrano deploy:migrate Could not find rake-0.9.2.2 in any of the sources

  My Capistrano deploy:migrate task is set to run a simple rake db:migrate command, as follows: env PATH=/home/user/.gems/bin sh -c 'cd /home/user/app/releases/20121003140503 && rake RAILS_ENV=production db:migrate' When I run this task during an ssh session manually it completes successfully. However when I run from my local development box, I receive the following error: ** [out :: app] Could not find rake-0.9.2.2 in any of the sources I am able to locate my rake gem by typing which rake via ssh (/home/user/.gems/bin/rake) and rake --version gives me "rake, version 0.9.2.2," so I don't understand why this command fails via Capistrano?

• Maintaining Logging and/or stdout/stderr in Python Daemon

  Every recipe that I've found for creating a daemon process in Python involves forking twice (for Unix) and then closing all open file descriptors. (See http://www.jejik.com/articles/2007/02/a_simple_unix_linux_daemon_in_python/ for an example). This is all simple enough but I seem to have an issue. On the production machine that I am setting up, my daemon is aborting - silently since all open file descriptors were closed. I am having a tricky time debugging the issue currently and am wondering what the proper way to catch and log these errors are. What is the right way to setup logging such that it continues to work after daemonizing? Do I just call logging.basicConfig() a second time after daemonizing? What's the right way to capture stdout and stderr? I am fuzzy on the details of why all the files are closed. Ideally, my main code could just call daemon_start(pid_file) and logging would continue to work.

• Log your SQL in Rails application inside unit test

  I want to install a logger so that I can dump all executed SQL of my rails application. Problem is, such logger is associated with AbstractAdapter which initialized very soon under test mode, and thus cannot be set by my initializer code. I try to put ActiveRecord::Base.logger = MyCustomLogger.new(STDOUT) in the end of environment.rb like someone advised but it only works when being run in console environment (kicked by script/console), not when run under test mode. I wonder if there is any way to config such logger so that I will sure to be invoked under any environment (test, development, production, console)

• Should we develop code on a local machine in a VLAN?

  Because of security reasons, we will not be able to use IIS on our local machines. I'm sure that many of you have faced the same problem, so how did you solve it? Here are the options that we're looking at: Create a VLAN that is isolated from the network for development. This will allow us to use any software, including IIS, that we want. A disadvantage is testing Web services with external organizations, which can be overcome by using stubs. Not use a VLAN and use only the ASP.NET Development Server that comes with Visual Studio, and then deploying that code to the development server. This has the disadvantage of not being able to replicate the production environment during local development. In addition, at least one developer needs IIS for GIS development, so he couldn't develop locally. Thank you for comments or suggestions that you may have!

• Memcached - how to deal with adding/deploying servers

  Hi everybody, How do you handle replacing/adding/removing memcached nodes in your production applications? I will have a number of applications that are cloned and customized due to each customers need running on one and same webserver, so i'll guess that there will be a day when some of the nodes will be changed. Here's how memcached is populated by normal: $m = new Memcached(); $servers = array( array('mem1.domain.com', 11211, 33), array('mem2.domain.com', 11211, 67) ); $m->addServers($servers); My initial idea, is to make the $servers array to be populated from the database, also cached, but file-based, done once a day or something, with the option to force an update on next run of the function that holds the $addservers call. However, I am guessing that this might add some additional overhead since disks are quite slow storage... What do you think?

• PDOException “could not find driver”

  I have just installed Debian Lenny with Apache, MySQL, and PHP and I am receiving a PDOException could not find driver. This is the specific line of code it is referring to: $dbh = new PDO('mysql:host=' . DB_HOST . ';dbname=' . DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASS) DB_HOST, DB_NAME, DB_USER, and DB_PASS are constants that I have defined. It works fine on the production server (and on my previous Ubuntu Server setup). Is this something to do with my PHP installation? Searching the internet has not helped, all I get is experts-exchange and examples, but no solutions.
