• Silverlight: Scrolling with a StackPanel

  I have a grid, 3 by 3 (3 rowdefinitions and 3 columndefinitions). I want some content (a StackPanel) in one of those grid cells to scroll. I'm fairly sure this is possible but I cannot figure out how. I've tried adding ScrollViewers and Scrollbar controls to the grid cell I want to scroll, but this usually ends up creating scrolling for the entire page. Edit: My issue is more specificlly how I can get scrolling over a StackPanel. • SetPartialRenderingMode can only be called once?

  I have a asp.net web form full of ajax. Every time a postback is made, the server event execute correctly, but when the page is rendering I get this error : Error : Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: SetPartialRenderingMode can only be called once. A search with SetPartialRenderingMode on google was unsuccessful. It seems it is related to AjaxControlToolkit. I have created a simple demo project that reproduce the problem. You can find it here (VS 2008 .NET 3.5). Note that you only see the error in IE7, it doesn't work in FF either but no error appear.

  I create a simple table in SqlServer .. key field integer, 4 strings and a Timestamp This Table is called Event .. which pluralizes to Events.(the checkbox was ticked) I run the Entity Builder in VS2010 just adding this table only. EntityModelXXX x = new EntityModelXXX(); // create an object 'e' here x.AddToEvents(e); produces an error : The EntitySet name 'EntityModelXXX.Events' could not be found. It doesn't seem to find the set .. why?

  I've found ExcelPackage, a better library than Excel Interop API to create and mantain programatically excel sheets, but they are generated in .xlsx. Most of people that will see the files have only office 2003 installed, so I need to convert, in my C# code, the final result into a .xls file. Do you know any way to do it in C# code? ** UPDATE I'm trying to use SaveAs method, but it doesn't work, it just doesn't do anything, or return the error 0x800A03EC .

• Android SlidingDrawer in Eclipse IDE

  I am trying to design an application for Android that makes use of the SlidingDrawer, but I have not been able to use the form (layout?) designer to add this element without producing an exception "IllegalArgumentException: The handle attribute is required and must refer to a valid child." As of March 17th, I believe I have everything up to date (Eclipse, and the Android SDK). All the SDK components have been installed. I have created two Android virtual devices, One for version 1.0, and one for version 2.1 when I figured out that 1.0 didn't support the SlidingDrawer. I have tried importing the samples provided in the SDK, as well as several other layouts from the web that I have found, all of which produce this same exception. My programming background is mostly C++, and I consider myself to be a novice programmer, so feel free to talk to me as if I were an idiot so that I will understand. ^^;

• Problem with TimeZoneInfo.ConvertTime: missed the Daylight Saving switch.

  My web app runs on .Net 3.5, all of the dates are saved on the DB in UTC time (not in user time). When I want to display a date I convert it to user date (from UTC) //Get the current datetime of the user exp: GMT TO ISRAEL +2 public static DateTime GetUserDateTime(DateTime dateUTC) { string userTzId = "Israel Standard Time"; TimeZoneInfo userTZ = TimeZoneInfo.FindSystemTimeZoneById(userTzId); dateUTC = DateTime.SpecifyKind(dateUTC, DateTimeKind.Utc); DateTime ret = TimeZoneInfo.ConvertTime(dateUTC, TimeZoneInfo.Utc, userTZ); return ret; } Until now it worked fine but I have users from Israel (GMT +2), and Israel switched to Daylight saving time on 26/3/10 so now it's (GMT +3). For some reason the TimeZoneInfo.ConvertTime don't know the Daylight saving time switch is on 26/3/10 so it still converts to GMT +2. The strange thing is that on localhost it works fine, I set up a test page: DateTime userdate = GetUserDateTime(DateTime.UtcNow); string str2 = "UserDateTime = " + userdate.ToString("dd/MM/yy") + " " + userdate.ToString("HH:mm"); On the Server (windows 2003 set to UTC time) it shows the wrong time (+2): UserDateTime = 27/03/10 21:38 On localhost (windows XP set to Israel Time) it shows the correct time (+3): UserDateTime = 27/03/10 22:38 How can I update the TimeZoneInfo that the Daylight saving time switch in Israel was on the 26/3/10? Now I want to show some items over 3d stuff, so I create a XML with a layout and some objects, and I try to add my class manually to the layout. The user is able to navigate from cell to cell within the matrix and I would like to highlight the data in the selected textbox but it doesn't work. I called TextBox.Focus () and TextBox.SelectAll () to achieve the effect but nothing. The Focus () works but the text never gets highlighted. Any help is welcome and appreciated.

  I'm trying to use Spring's Schema Based AOP Support in Eclipse and am getting errors when trying to load the configuration in Tomcat. However, looking in the esb.config file, there is no section, like there is for the other esb SSO applications. Why might this section (and therefore the SSO app) be missing? How can I set it up?   I keep getting this error: 'An AVPlayerItem can occupy only one position in a player's queue at a time.' I NSLog'd the players items, and none of them seem to be equal. Further, I added this just to be sure: if([player canInsertItem:itemToAdd afterItem:nil]) [player insertItem:itemToAdd afterItem:nil]; When I wasn't sure if that would work (can have two identical items in different memory locations) I wrote a category method to test if a player contains an item or something identical to it. Yet, I'm still getting the error. I've seen several posts of people getting this error with MPMoviePlayerController, but I'm not using that custom class, just the out of the box AVQueuePlayer. Any ideas on how to fix this?

• TDD - How to start really thinking TDD?

  I have been reading about Agile, XP methodologies and TDDs. I have been in projects which states it needs to do TDD, but most of the tests are somehow integration tests or during the course of project TDD is forgotten in effort to finish codes faster. So, as far as my case goes, I have written unit tests, but I find myself going to start writing code first instead of writing a test. I feel there's a thought / design / paradigm change which is actually huge. So, though one really believes in TDD, you actually end up going back old style because of time pressure / project deliverables. I have few classes where I have pure unit tested code, but I can't seem to continue with the process, when mocks come into picture. Also, I see at times : "isn't it too trivial to write a test for it" syndrome. How do you guys think I should handle this?

  Hi, Not a massive problem but something that has been bugging the life out of me... One of my colleagues was trying out some code on my machine and got the "There were build errors. Would you like to continue and run the last successful build?" pop-up when the build failed on Visual Studio. He clicked on the "don't show this again" checkbox and closed the dialogue. My problem is that I can't get the dialogue to show up again. I found these instructions online: "Select Tools, Options, Projects and Solutions, Build and Run. Then set the option "On run, when build or deployment errors occur" to Prompt to Launch." but that doesn't work. Resetting the IDE settings to default don't make any difference either. Is there any way to get this dialogue back or has it gone forever? Thanks, K

  On a new machine, installed ruby with the 1-click installer for windows. Installed rails 2.3.2 and all associated gems, then I installed the sqlite3 binaries (into the c:\ruby\bin folder). Lastly I did gem install sqlite3-ruby -v=1.2.3 (which is apparently the latest version that works with windows) This error happens when I run rake db:migrate or when any ActiveRecord object is touched at runtime. • Multi-line strings in objective-c localized strings file

  I have a template for an email that I've put in a localized strings file, and I'm loading the string with the NSLocalizedString macro. I'd rather not make each line its own string with a unique key. In Objective-C, I can create a human-readable multiline string like so: NSString *email = @"Hello %@,\n" "\n" "Check out %@.\n" "\n" "Sincerely,\n" "\n" "%@"; I tried to put that in a .strings file with: "email" = "Hello %@,\n" "\n" "Check out %@.\n" "\n" "Sincerely,\n" "\n" "%@"; But I get the following error at build time: CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): Old-style plist parser: missing semicolon in dictionary. email-template.strings: Unexpected character " at line 1 Command /Developer/Library/Xcode/Plug-ins/CoreBuildTasks.xcplugin/Contents/Resources/copystrings failed with exit code 1 I can concatenate it all together like this: "email" = "Hello %@,\n\nCheck out %@.\n\nSincerely,\n\n%@"; But that will be a mess to maintain, particularly as the email gets longer. Is there a way to do this in a localized strings file? I've already tried adding backslashes at the end of each line, to no avail.

• jQgrid Pagination with query string

  Hello, I recently started experimenting with jQgrid, and much appreciate for any guidance on the below use case. I need to implement a (advanced)search functionality, and the results are loaded in the jQgrid. When use pagination, how to specify a complex query in the post data? In the serverside (grails) it it represented as an object, which is mocked below class searchCommand { String val1 List<long> ids //from the multiple selection } the above members can be null, if the user doesn't select any. Without saving the state at the server, I guess the only way to make the pagination work is to pass the query object back and forth with the correct offset, index etc. if that is the case, how best to represent it in jQgrid side. I saw a parameter postData to set additional values, but not sure how to represnt the data (JSON??). Any code snippet on (retaining) converting it from the last result to postData would be helpful. thanks in advance.
