  • cross-user C# mutex

    - by Martin
My app is forced to use a 3rd party module which will blue-screen Windows if two instances are started at the same time on the same machine. To work around the issue, my C# app has a mutex: static Mutex mutex = new Mutex(true, "{MyApp_b9d19f99-b83e-4755-9b11-d204dbd6d096}"); And I check if it's present - and if so I show an error message and close the app: bool IsAnotherInstanceRunning() { if (mutex.WaitOne(TimeSpan.Zero, true)) return (true); else return (false); } The problem is if two users can log in and open the application at the same time, and IsAnotherInstanceRunning() will return false. How do I get around this?

  • Active User Tracking, PHP Sessions

    - by Nik
Alright, I'm trying to work on a function for active user counting in an AJAX based application. I want to express the below SQL Query in correct syntax but I'm not sure how to write it. The desired SQL Query is below: SELECT count(*) FROM active WHERE timestamp > time() - 1800 AND nick=(a string that doesn't contain [AFK]) Now, I do understand that time() - 1800 can be assigned to a variable, but how is timestamp > variable and nick that doesn't contain a string written in SQL?

  • When are you truly forced to use UUID as part of the design?

    - by Pyrolistical
I don't really see the point of UUID. I know the probability of a collision is effectively nil, but effectively nil is not even close to impossible. Can somebody give an example where you have no choice but to use UUID? From all the uses I've seen, I can see an alternative design without UUID. Sure the design might be slightly more complicated, but at least it doesn't have a non-zero probability of failure. UUID smells like global variables to me. There are many ways global variables make for simpler design, but its just lazy design.

  • how to retrieve distinct values from multiple columns

    - by ANIL MANE
Hello Experts, I have a flat text file data which I import into MSSQL table. It creates and table with specified name along with multiple columns as per data file. now I need a query which will return the data and its count. e.g. data file : BREAD,MILK BREAD,DIAPER,BEER,EGGS MILK,DIAPER,BEER,COKE BREAD,MILK,DIAPER,BEER BREAD,MILK,DIAPER,COKE BREAD,ICE,MANGO JUICE,BURGER Result should be BREAD | 5 MILK | 4 DIAPER| 4 and so on.

  • Best way to choose a random file from a directory in a shell script

    - by jhs
What is the best way to choose a random file from a directory in a shell script? Here is my solution in Bash but I would be very interested for a more portable (non-GNU) version for use on Unix proper. dir='some/directory' file=`/bin/ls -1 "$dir" | sort --random-sort | head -1` path=`readlink --canonicalize "$dir/$file"` # Converts to full path echo "The randomly-selected file is: $path" Anybody have any other ideas? Edit: lhunath makes a good point about parsing ls. I guess it comes down to whether you want to be portable or not. If you have the GNU findutils and coreutils then you can do: find "$dir" -maxdepth 1 -mindepth 1 -type f -print0 \ | sort --zero-terminated --random-sort \ | sed 's/\d000.*//g/' Whew, that was fun! Also it matches my question better since I said "random file". Honsetly though, these days it's hard to imagine a Unix system deployed out there having GNU installed but not Perl 5.

  • std::map default value for build-in type

    - by Qifa Zhao
Recently, I was confused by the std::map operator[] function. In the MSDN library, it says: "If the argument key value is not found, then it is inserted along with the default value of the data type." I tryed to search much more exactly explanation for this issue. For example here: std::map default value In this page, Michael Anderson said that "the default value is constructed by the default constructor(zero parameter constructor)". Now my quest comes to this:"what the default value for the build-in type?". Was it compiler related? Or is there a standard for this issue by the c++ stardard committee? I did a test on visual studio 2008 for the "int" type, and found the "int" type is construted with the value 0.

  • Resize an asp.net panel width based on a checkboxlist?

    - by larryq
Hi everyone, I have an asp.net panel that contains a checkboxlist. I'd like to resize it so that its width fits the list's contents snugly. Right now I'm handling the panel's pre rendering event, setting its width to match that of the checkboxlist. However it appears the checkboxlist's width property reads zero (at least in this pre render method) so the panel's width is set identically, which leads to inconsistent renderings in Firefox vs IE. Does anyone have a better approach to doing what I'm attempting here? Many thanks.

  • How can I make Excel's MIN function ignore zeroes in a set?

    - by mfg
In Excel, I have the following formula =(MIN(H69,H52,H35,H18)*(1/H18))*10 that is supposed to return the MIN of a range, and divide it by the current cell (*(1/H18) ), then multiply by 10. I am having difficulty with adding a type of NULLIF statement. I want to be able to have (the possibility for) blank rows, and have the MIN function ignore zero/blank fields while selecting the next lowest value (all are between 1.0-0.1). Is there a modifier i can apply to the MIN function to make it not compare zeroes in the MIN set? Is there a better funtion than MIN to use? This is to prevent the following situation: users will need to eliminate fields that are zeros from the form, theres 2 formula edits per entry, averaging 4 entries per use, so 8 possible errors per form use...

  • mysql fetch result parent id and category id by single query?

    - by Karthik
I have the table and values like this, CREATE TABLE `category` ( `id` INT( 4 ) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY , `category` VARCHAR( 50 ) NOT NULL , `parent` INT( 4 ) NOT NULL ) INSERT INTO `category` VALUES (1, 'MCA', 9); INSERT INTO `category` VALUES (2, 'M Tech', 9); INSERT INTO `category` VALUES (3, 'B Tech', 9); INSERT INTO `category` VALUES (4, 'BioTech', 9); INSERT INTO `category` VALUES (5, 'InfoTech', 9); INSERT INTO `category` VALUES (6, 'Chemical', 10); INSERT INTO `category` VALUES (7, 'Indus', 10); INSERT INTO `category` VALUES (8, 'Physics', 10); INSERT INTO `category` VALUES (9, 'Information Science', 0); INSERT INTO `category` VALUES (10, 'Others Science', 0); I need a single query for getting the values in terms of category and subcategory. 3rd values zero as category and others are subcategory.

  • iphone quartz drawing 2 lines on top of each other causes worm effect

    - by Leonard
I'm using Quartz-2D for iPhone to display a route on a map. The route is colored according to temperature. Because some streets are colored yellow, I am using a slightly thicker black line under the route line to create a border effect, so that yellow parts of the route are spottable on yellow streets. But, even if the black line is as thick as the route line, the whole route looks like a worm (very ugly). I tought this was because I was drawing lines from waypoint to waypoint, instead using the last waypoint as the next starting waypoint. That way if there is a couple of waypoints missing, the route will still have no cuts. What do I need to do to display both lines without a worm effect? -(void) drawRect:(CGRect) rect { CSRouteAnnotation* routeAnnotation = (CSRouteAnnotation*)self.routeView.annotation; // only draw our lines if we're not int he moddie of a transition and we // acutally have some points to draw. if(!self.hidden && nil != routeAnnotation.points && routeAnnotation.points.count > 0) { CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); Waypoint* fromWaypoint = [[Waypoint alloc] initWithDictionary:[routeAnnotation.points objectAtIndex:0]]; Waypoint* toWaypoint; for(int idx = 1; idx < routeAnnotation.points.count; idx++) { toWaypoint = [[Waypoint alloc] initWithDictionary:[routeAnnotation.points objectAtIndex:idx]]; CLLocation* fromLocation = [fromWaypoint getLocation]; CGPoint fromPoint = [self.routeView.mapView convertCoordinate:fromLocation.coordinate toPointToView:self]; CLLocation* toLocation = [toWaypoint getLocation]; CGPoint toPoint = [self.routeView.mapView convertCoordinate:toLocation.coordinate toPointToView:self]; routeAnnotation.lineColor = [fromWaypoint.weather getTemperatureColor]; CGContextBeginPath(context); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 3.0); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, [UIColor blackColor].CGColor); CGContextMoveToPoint(context, fromPoint.x, fromPoint.y); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, toPoint.x, toPoint.y); CGContextStrokePath(context); CGContextClosePath(context); CGContextBeginPath(context); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 3.0); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, routeAnnotation.lineColor.CGColor); CGContextMoveToPoint(context, fromPoint.x, fromPoint.y); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, toPoint.x, toPoint.y); CGContextStrokePath(context); CGContextClosePath(context); fromWaypoint = toWaypoint; } [fromWaypoint release]; [toWaypoint release]; } } Also, I get a <Error>: CGContextClosePath: no current point. error, which I think is bullshit. Please hint me! :)

  • Good way to format decimal in SQL Server

    - by Brad
We store a decimal(9,8) in our database. It can have any number of places after the decimal point (well, no more than 8). I am frustrated because I want to display it as human-readable text as part of a larger string created on the server. I want as many decimals to the right of the decimal point as are non-zero, for example: 0.05 0.12345 3.14159265 Are all good If I do CAST(d AS varchar(50)) I get formatting like: 0.05000000 0.12345000 3.14159265 I get similar output if I cast/convert to a float or other type before casting to a varchar. I know how to do a fixed number of decimal places, such as: 0.050 0.123 3.142 But that is not what I want. Yes, I know I can do this through complicated string manipulation (REPLACE, etc), there should be a good way to do it.

  • conditional operator in C question

    - by Seephor
    I just have a quick question about the conditional operator. Still a budding programmer here. I am given x = 1, y = 2, and z = 3. I want to know, why after this statement: y += x-- ? z++ : --z; That y is 5. The values after the statement are x = 0, y = 5, and z = 4. I know the way the conditional operator works is that it is formatted like this: variable = condition ? value if true : value if false. For the condition, y += x-- , how does y become 5? I can only see 2 (2 += 0) and 3 (2 += 1)(then x-- becomes zero) as possibilities. Any help is much appreciated. :)

  • How can I sum up the lines added/removed by a user in a git repo?

    - by Mike
I am trying to find the total number of lines added and total number of lines removed by a user in a git repository. I looked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1265040/how-to-count-total-lines-changed-by-a-specific-author-in-a-git-repository, which had the command git log --author="<authorname>" --pretty=tformat: --numstat, but the answer failed to give a script(however simple) to total the lines changed. What's the simplest way to sum up the lines added/removed?

  • Using FindAll on a List<List<T>> type

    - by Ken Foster
Assuming public class MyClass { public int ID {get; set; } public string Name {get; set; } } and List<MyClass> classList = //populate with MyClass instances of various IDs I can do List<MyClass> result = classList.FindAll(class => class.ID == 123); and that will give me a list of just classes with ID = 123. Works great, looks elegant. Now, if I had List<List<MyClass>> listOfClassLists = //populate with Lists of MyClass instances How do I get a filtered list where the lists themselves are filtered. I tried List<List<MyClass>> result = listOfClassLists.FindAll (list => list.FindAll(class => class.ID == 123).Count > 0); it looks elegant, but doesn't work. It only includes Lists of classes where at least one class has an ID of 123, but it includes ALL MyClass instances in that list, not just the ones that match. I ended up having to do List<List<MyClass>> result = Results(listOfClassLists, 123); private List<List<MyClass>> Results(List<List<MyClass>> myListOfLists, int id) { List<List<MyClass>> results = new List<List<MyClass>>(); foreach (List<MyClass> myClassList in myListOfLists) { List<MyClass> subList = myClassList.FindAll(myClass => myClass.ID == id); if (subList.Count > 0) results.Add(subList); } return results; } which gets the job done, but isn't that elegant. Just looking for better ways to do a FindAll on a List of Lists. Ken

  • C++/MFC: Handling multiple CListCtrl's headers HDN_ITEMCLICK events

    - by raph.amiard
I'm coding an MFC application in which i have a dialog box with multiple CListCtrls in report view. I want one of them to be sortable. So i handled the HDM_ITEMCLICK event, and everything works just fine .. Except that if i click on the headers of another CListCtrl, it does sort the OTHER CListCtrl, which does look kind of dumb. This is apparently due to the fact that headers have an ID of 0, which make the entry in the message map look like this : ON_NOTIFY(HDN_ITEMCLICK, 0, &Ccreationprogramme::OnHdnItemclickList5) But since all the headers have an id of zero, apparently every header of my dialog sends the message. Is there an easy way around this problem ?

  • Missing features in Visual Studio?

What features do you want to see in Visual Studio that are not included out of the box? I'd like to be able to: Add projects and references by dragging to the Solution Explorer. Collapse to project definitions in the Solution Explorer. Although the second can be achieved with a macro. PS: R# is does not count as a feature!

  • VB6's private static in C# ?

    - by blez
In VB6 there are local static variables that keep their values after the exit of procedure. It's like using public vars but on local block. For example: sub count() static x as integer x = x + 1 end sub After 10 calls, x will be 10. I tried to search the same thing in .NET (and even Java) but there was none. Why? Does it break the OOP model in some way, and is there a way to emulate that.

  • Large Scale VHDL techniques

    - by oxinabox.ucc.asn.au
I'm thinking about implimenting a 16 bit CPU in VHDL. A simplish CPU. ADD, MULS, NEG, BitShift, JUMP, Relitive Jump, BREQ, Relitive BREQ, i don't know somethign along these lines Probably all only working with 16bit operands. I might even cut it down and use only a single operand and a accumulator. With Some status regitsters, Carry, Zero, Neg (unless i use a Accumlator), I know how to design all the parts from logic gates, and plan to build them up from first priciples, So for my ALU I'll need to 'build' a ADDer, proably a Carry Look ahead, group adder, this adder it self is make up oa a couple of parts, wich are themselves made up of a couple of parts. Anyway, my problem is not the CPU design, or the VHDL (i know the language, more or less). It's how i should keep things organised. How should I use packages, How should I name my processes and port maps? (i've never seen the benifit of naming the port maps, or processes)

  • mysql statement with nested SELECT - how to improve performance

    - by ernie
This statement appears inefficient because only one one out of 10 records are selected and only 1 of 100 entries contain comments. What can I do to improve it ? $query = "SELECT A,B,C, (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM comments WHERE comments.nid = header_file.nid) as my_comment_count FROM header_file Where A = 'admin' " edit: I want header records even if no comments are found.

  • RichEdit control: Determine when text is changed?

    - by Rosarch
I'm trying to count the number of times that text is changed in a given RichEdit control. I considered using events like key down, but that gets messy when you consider keys that don't change the text (like arrows, page up, etc). And how do you make sure you get all of those keys? It seems it would be simpler to register a callback for a onTextChanged event, if one exists. Is there any way to do something like that?

  • Clojure: Avoiding stack overflow in Sieve of Erathosthene?

    - by nixx
Here's my implementation of Sieve of Erathosthene in Clojure (based on SICP lesson on streams): (defn nats-from [n] (iterate inc n)) (defn divide? [p q] (zero? (rem q p))) (defn sieve [stream] (lazy-seq (cons (first stream) (sieve (remove #(divide? (first stream) %) (rest stream)))))) (def primes (sieve (nats-from 2))) Now, it's all OK when i take first 100 primes: (take 100 primes) But, if i try to take first 1000 primes, program breaks because of stack overflow. I'm wondering if is it possible to change somehow function sieve to become tail-recursive and, still, to preserve "streamnes" of algorithm? Any help???
