• Is there a way to bring an application's GUI to the current desktop?

  Background: Started a fair amount of work before realizing that a Windows Service cannot start an app with a GUI that displays without potential problems. The proper solution of separating the GUI of the app to be started is non-trivial, so I'm trying to think of alternative solutions. There is a GUI to manage the service that is a separate executable, but the process to be launched (actually multiple instances of it) has its own GUI that needs to be shown. It doesn't need to be made visible by the service itself, but it needs to be at least able to be made visible by another process with a visible GUI. The Windows User that is running the service and that needs to see the GUI of the launched process is the same and known at install time. Is there some way to accomplish this or is it back to the drawing board? Also both the service and the app to launch are both our code and modifiable.

I've tried using lxml.html like this: lxml.html.fromstring(fragment_string).drop_tag() But that only gives me "Hello", which I guess makes sense. Any better ideas?

  My friend wants to store electrically her school -notes and process them fast, with backups. She has over 2GB -size repo already and growing all the time (mostly appended material i.e. more school notes, different formats, pdf, pictures and scanned, some text -files, etc). The goal of my friend is to process fast the notes. I suggested command like this here i.e. "# crontab -e @weekly wget --random-wait -e robots=off -U mozilla -mirror http://VeryLong.com". But I think plugging in Rsync somewhere could make it much better with Git. How would you help my friend to process and store the school -material under Git-version-controlling and still keep the size reasonable?   Hi All, We have some legacy software which depends on sending keystrokes to a DOS window and then scraping the screen. I am trying to re-create the software by redirecting the input and output streams of the process directly to my application. This part I have managed fine using: _Process = new Process(); { _Process.StartInfo.FileName = APPLICATION; _Process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true; _Process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = true; _Process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardError = true; _Process.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false; _Process.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = true; _Process.OutputDataReceived += new DataReceivedEventHandler(_Process_OutputDataReceived); _Process.ErrorDataReceived += new DataReceivedEventHandler(_Process_ErrorDataReceived); } My problem is I need to send some command modifiers such as Ctrl, ALT and Space as well as F1-12 to this process but am unsure how. I can send basic text and I receive response's fine. I just need to emulate these modifiers. Any help would be great, Cheers

• Why, in Ruby, does Array("foo\nbar") == ["foo\n", "bar"]?

  In Ruby 1.8.7, Array("hello\nhello") gives you ["hello\n", "hello"]. This does two things that I don't expect: It splits the string on newlines. I'd expect it simply to give me an array with the string I pass in as its single element without modifying the data I pass in. Even if you accept that it's reasonable to split a string when passing it to Array, why does it retain the newline character when "foo\nbar".split does not? Additionally: >> Array.[] "foo\nbar" => ["foo\nbar"] >> Array.[] *"foo\nbar" => ["foo\n", "bar"]

• What is a good format for command line output when it is being used for further processing?

  I have written a console application in Delphi that queries information from several locations. This application will be launched by another process, and the output to STDOUT will be captured by the launching process. The information I am retrieving is to be interpreted by the calling application for reporting purposes. What is the best way to output this data to STDOUT so that it can be easily parsed? JSON? XML? CSV? The data, specifically, is remote workstation information, so it will pull things back like running processes, and details about each process. Does anyone have any experience with this or suggestions?

Since Process 1 read value of d['blah'] saves it on the stack increments it and again writes it. In Between a Process 2 can read the d['blah'] as well. Locking means that while d['blah'] is being written or read no other process can access it. Can someone clarify my doubts?

  I'm trying to pass 3 parameter to a script, where the 3rd parameter $_GET['value3'] is supposed to be an array $_GET['value1'] $_GET['value2'] $_GET['value3'] //an array of items I'm calling the script like this: (notice my syntax for value3, I'm not sure it's correct) http://localhost/test.php?value1=test1&value2=test2&value3=[the, array, values] I then use a foreach to hopefully loop through the third parameter value3 which is the array //process the first input $_GET['value1'] //process the second input $_GET['value2'] //process the third input $_GET['value3'] which is the array foreach($_GET['value3'] as $arrayitem){ echo $arrayitem; } but I get the error Invalid argument supplied for foreach() I'm not sure if my methodology is correct. • C/C++ memory usage API in Linux/Windows

  I'd like to obtain memory usage information for both per process and system wide. In Windows, it's pretty easy. GetProcessMemoryInfo and GlobalMemoryStatusEx do these jobs greatly and very easily. For example, GetProcessMemoryInfo gives "PeakWorkingSetSize" of the given process. GlobalMemoryStatusEx returns system wide available memory. However, I need to do it on Linux. I'm trying to find Linux system APIs that are equivalent GetProcessMemoryInfo and GlobalMemoryStatusEx. I found 'getrusage'. However, max 'ru_maxrss' (resident set size) in struct rusage is just zero, which is not implemented. Also, I have no idea to get system-wide free memory. Current workaround for it, I'm using "system("ps -p %my_pid -o vsz,rsz");". Manually logging to the file. But, it's dirty and not convenient to process the data. I'd like to know some fancy Linux APIs for this purpose.

  When running the following code, the filenames of all files below C:\Test are printed. Why doesn't it print just Hello (n times, depending on how many files are processed)? Does this imply that I cannot rely on shift to reliably assign to $_? Imagine a coworker implements the wtf function and doesn't know that it's called from a File::Find wanted sub. • C - fork() and sharing memory

  I need my parent and child process to both be able to read and write the same variable (of type int) so it is "global" between the two processes. I'm assuming this would use some sort of cross-process communication and have one variable on one process being updated. I did a quick google and IPC and various techniques come up but I don't know which is the most suitable for my situation.
