  • Cannot boot from windows 7 DVD

    Hi All, I have just purchased windows 7 64bit. I entered the disk in the drive and it told me I couldn't upgrade as I am using XP so I have tried to boot from CD instead but it doesn't work. It seems to look at the disk for a few seconds and then ends up at a screen saying windows failed to start and then I hit enter and it loads windows XP again. Does anyone know what could cause this?   • If a managed network switch were to overheat, would you consider it no longer reliable?

    Here is the scenario - I have a network switch, one of several in a stack. It's fan failed. Soon, there were reports of users with network issues. After quickly replacing the fan, the users were fine, network issues were resolved. I assume the unit was overheating, and thus failing somehow. Today someone suggested to me, that I should not assume the unit is 100% reliable anymore. So what do you think, would an overheat condition (less than 1 day with the fan stopped) potentially cause permanent damage that could at some point come to the surface as future network failures/issues? If it matters, we are talking managed switches such as 3Com/HP SuperStack , ProCurve or PWR-Plus.

    Our server returns a custom 'X-Execution-Time' HTTP response header that returns in miliseconds the time between the server getting a request and our code returning a page, ie how long our code takes to run. I'm using JMeter to do some testing & I'd like to be able to report on this number of over time. I've setup this regular expression extractor: X-Execution-Time:\s(\d+) but I don't know how to get JMeter to report on this number per request so i can get a trend over time

    I have a client who wants their wordpress and google apps user accounts accessible using SSO, ie if they log in on one app domain google.client.com they will be logged into wordpress.client.com too without extra steps. The same LDAP directory will be used to do backend authentication for both systems. Is it possible to setup SSO for LDAP-backed webapps?

  • Virtualmin - Added Virtual Server - Stopped access to Rails app?

    Hi, Sorry if this sounds pretty simple, I'm new to Virtualmin and running servers in general. I recently purchased a VPS and installed Virtualmin with no problems. I then installed mod_rails and uploaded my first rails app, which I got working by adding the following to my apache httpd.conf file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName testing.mydomain.com DocumentRoot /home/myapp/public <Directory /home/myapp/public> Allow from All AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews </Directory> RailsBaseURI / </VirtualHost> I then tried adding a virtual server through Virtualmin, using mydomain.com. Now, the site this created (plus several sub-servers) and working as expected. However, my original Rails app is no longer accessible. The URL now sends me to the parent application (ie mydomain.com) The Rails app is not located within the parent's application directory, would this be a problem? Can anyone help? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi, I'm using CurvyCorners to make my corners curvy in IE, only thing is that when it reads the CSS it takes all the webkit properties and shows me an alert curvyCorners.alert("No object with ID " + arg + " exists yet.\nCall curvyCorners(settings, obj) when it is created.");.   • How to recover Virtual Machines in Virtualbox?

    For some reason, all of a sudden, all virtual machines are gone from the User Interface in virtual box. I suspect CCleaner has something to do with it, but that's not the point. Both the virtual hardisks and the .xml files for the machines are still in their respective folders. How can I use them to get my virtual machines back into virtualbox? I tried simply creating a new machine from the old virtual hardisks, and it worked with the ubuntu guest, but not with the windows one. Plus, it'd be nice to get my old machines back instead of having to create new ones, that would keep me from having to fix some shortcuts as well as reconfigure shared folders and other stuff. Whenever i write question and click "Post Your question" The button click event doesn't fire at all, may be, the server side event doesn't fire or something.     Hi, I have some really sensitive data that I am trying to compress and back up so I can reformat. It's absolutely imperative that nothing happens to these files. I'm a developer so I have very little room for error... plus I'd really hate it if any of my .mp3's got corrupted! File Formats Include... .mp3 .php .js .ai - .psd - .flv (and many more) Is the mac OSX file compression safe enough? Or should I look elsewhere? Is there a more efficient/secure file-format other than .zip (i'm assuming so...)

    Hi, While transferring data to my 2nd gen Drobo power went out. Now my Drobo is not mounting to my OS X 10.6.3 I have tried Disk Repair and this error message appears: Verify and Repair volume “disk1s2” Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume. Invalid key length Invalid record count Catalog file entry not found for extent The volume could not be verified completely. Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files. I tried DiskWarrior too but it doesn't work either. It gives me that I need more memory to continue and software shuts down. Any one know solution to this one?

  • Co-location vs. cloud hosting

    We have a decent-sized server estate: several ProLiants, plus IBM BladeCentre and SANs running a VMWare environment. Due to an imminent premises move, we're not going to have enough space for a server room, so I've been looking at moving everything out to a colo. My boss is more keen on the idea of cloud-hosting everything, which would include a couple of high-traffic websites (about 9m pageviews/month), our Exchange sever (about a million clean emails sent/received monthly), as well as file/print/AD/all the ususal stuff. This doesn;t sound like a good idea to me, but I'm new to the ways of the cloud. Can anyone offer any advice?

I know it is 2048 and basically infinite for Firefox (the two environments I have tested in), but Image requests fail for long Uri's. Anyone know the magic number (is it 256 the max filepath length?)     When using Excel Interop libraries from .NET, I can find a Range object representing the cell offset from Range X by calling something like. Range Y = X.Range[2,3]; But what should I do to perform the inverse operation, ie: I have two Range objects, A and B, and I would like to find out by how many rows/columns B is offset from A. Does anyone know the easiest way to do this? Is there a library function? Thanks.
