    Hi, I'm using the will paginate gem from http://github.com/mislav/will_paginate Routes: map.resources :post do |post| post.resources :comments end Post Controller: @post = Post.first @comments = @post.comments.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 10 My problem lies in the view: <%= will_paginate @comments %> This generates links like /post/1?page=1 What I need is /post/1/comments?page=1 Is there a way to just tell will_paginate what url helper to use? (like post_comments_path) Any ideas?

  • How do I find the .max of an attribute value among a group of different Models?

    Hi, everyone: I am also open to just straight-up refactoring what I'm finding to be pretty repetitive, but to give a baseline of how it's working.... I have for every contact a Campaign, which has_many of three types of Models: Email, Call, and Letter. When an Email (Call or Letter) has been executed for a specific contact, I have a Contact_Email(_or_Call_or_Letter) which belongs to both the Contact and the Model (Email_or_Call_or_Letter). Each Contact_Email for example pairing has a :date_sent attribute. So does each Contact_Call and Contact_Letter. How do I find the latest of all of them? Here is the code I wrote that can find the latest Email and my finding retyping similar code for Call and Letter, but then stuck on how to do a .max on all of them: def last_email(contact) #get campaign the contact belongs to @campaign = Campaign.find_by_id(contact.campaign_id) @last_email = ContactEmail.find(:last, :conditions => "contact_id = #{contact.id}", :order => "date_sent DESC") @last_call = ContactCall.find(:last, :conditions => "contact_id = #{contact.id}", :order => "date_sent DESC") @last_letter = ContactLetter.find(:last, :conditions => "contact_id = #{contact.id}", :order => "date_sent DESC") # how do I get the latest of all of these to display? if @last_sent_email.nil? return "no email sent" else return @last_sent_email.date_sent end end Question 1: With what I have, how can I find effectively @last_event given I can find the last Email, last Call, and last Letter for every contact?   • Ruby and RSS2 Feed not displaying image

    Trying to create a simple RSS2 Feed that I could later pass on to FeedBurner but can't get RSS feed to display images at all. Also, from what I have read having xml.instruct! on top might cause IE to complain it's not a valid feed. Is this true?     I am trying to override rubies <= (spaceship) operator to sort apples and oranges so that apples come first sorted by weight, and oranges second, sorted by sweetness.   • Creating an additional related model with Devise

    I've started to implement a new project using Devise, which is pretty fantastic for handling users. However, when a user signs up, they're not just creating a User model, but also need to create a related Account model that represents the company. Additional users will also belongs_to this Account model. I can't seem to find a hook for this in Devise, though it seems like a pretty common pattern. What's the best practice for this?

    I use devise and cancan gems and have simple model association: user has_many subscriptions, subscription belongs_to :user. And have no problems with UsersController. When i delete following lines from SubscriptionsController: load_and_authorize_resource :user load_and_authorize_resource :subscription, through: :user before_filter :authenticate_user! Have no problems at all. So the issue in these lines or in Ability.rb. Any suggestions?

    It seems no class for input type 'submit' in font-awesome. Is it possible to use some class from font-awesome for button input? I've added icons to all buttons (which actually links with class 'btn' from twitter-bootstrap) in my applications, but can't add icons on 'input type submit'. Or, how to use this code: input#image-button{ background: #ccc url('icon.png') no-repeat top left; padding-left: 16px; height: 16px; } html: <input type="submit" id="image-button">Text</input> (which I took from HTML: How to make a submit button with text + image in it?) with font-awesome?

  • Resque: Slow worker startup and Forking

    I'm currently moving my application from a Linode setup to EC2. Redis is currently installed on a remote instance with various worker instances interacting with the queue. Thats all going fantastic. My problem is with the amount of time it takes for a worker to be 'instantiated' and slow forking. Starting a worker will usually take between 30 seconds and a minute(from god.rb starting the worker rake task and the worker actively starting work on the queue). I could live with that, but I've not experienced such a wait time on my current Linode production box so I believe its one of my symptoms to a bigger problem. Next issue is that jobs that took a second or less in my previous environment now seem to take about 5 to 10 times longer.. I'm assuming this must be some sort of issue with my Ubuntu install on EC2? One notable difference is that I'm running REE 1.8.7-2010.01 in my new setup, and REE 1.8.6 on the old Linode boxes. Anyone else experienced these issues?

    I have the following association in my User model: has_and_belongs_to_many :friends, :class_name => 'User', :foreign_key => 'friend_id' I have the following uniqueness constraint in my user_users table: UNIQUE KEY `no_duplicate_friends` (`user_id`,`friend_id`) In my code, I am retrieving a user's friends -- friends = user.friends. friends is an array. I have a scenario where I want add the user with all those friends to the friends array. Ex: friends << user_with_all_those_homies However, I get the following error: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: Mysql::Error: Duplicate entry '18-18' for key 'no_duplicate_friends': INSERT INTO `users_users` (`friend_id`, `user_id`) VALUES (18, 18) What gives?

  • DataMapper: using auto_migrate! with many-to-many dependencies?

    Hi, I'm trying to migrate my app from MySql to Postgresql, using Rails3-pre and the latest DataMapper. I have several models which are related through many-to-many relationships using :through = Resource, which means that DataMapper creates a join table with foreign keys for both models. I can't auto_migrate! these changes, because I keep getting this: ERROR: cannot drop table users because other objects depend on it DETAIL: constraint artist_users_owner_fk on table artist_users depends on table users constraint site_users_owner_fk on table site_users depends on table users HINT: Use DROP ... CASCADE to drop the dependent objects too. I have tried everything I can think of, and thought I had things working when I added :constraint = :skip to the field definition, but I keep getting that error back when I try and run auto_migrate. I thought that :skip meant that it would ignore the dependents, but maybe that only applies for deleting rows and not dropping tables? I should mention that I can run auto_migrate after i nuke the db once, but after that, errors. Any suggestions or advice much appreciated.

    Given a collection of named Foos from ActiveRecord, why does Array.include? not seem to call Foo.== but yet index does? class Foo < ActiveRecord::Base def ==(s) self.name == s end end class Bar < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :foos end bar.foos << Foo.new( :name = 'hmm' ) bar.foos.all.include?('hmm') # does select all from db every time = true bar.foos.include?('hmm') # does not go to db, but does not find the Foo! = false bar.foos.index('hmm') # does not go to db, but does find the Foo[0] ! = 0 bar.foos.index('eh') # no such object = nil I understand shallow about the proxies, but (without a detour into the AR source) why is index seemingly behaving correctly but include? is not !? Is this a bug in the proxy behavior, and/or is this behavior documented somewhere ? Thanks.

What is the best way of achieving this?

  • Excess errors on model from somewhere

    I have a User model, and use an acts_as_authentic (from authlogic) on it. My User model have 3 validations on username and looks as following: User < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_authentic validates_presence_of :username validates_length_of :username, :within => 4..40 validates_uniqueness_of :username end I'm writing a test to see my validations in action. Somehow, I get 2 errors instead of one when validating a uniqueness of a name. To see excess error, I do the following test: describe User do before(:each) do @user = Factory.build(:user) end it "should have a username longer then 3 symbols" do @user2 = Factory(:user) @user.username = @user2.username @user.save puts @user.errors.inspect end end I got 2 errors on username: @errors={"username"=>["has already been taken", "has already been taken"]}. Somehow the validation passes two times. I think authlogic causes that, but I don't have a clue on how to avoid that. Another case of problem is when I set username to nil. Somehow I get four validation errors instead of three: @errors={"username"=>["is too short (minimum is 3 characters)", "should use only letters, numbers, spaces, and .-_@ please.", "can't be blank", "is too short (minimum is 4 characters)"]} I think authlogic is one that causes this strange behaviour. But I can't even imagine on how to solve that. Any ideas?
