• CQRS without using others patterns

  I would like to explain CQRS to my team of developers. I just can't figure out how to explain it in the simplest way so they can implement the pattern rapidly without any others frameworks. I've read a lot of resources including video and articles but I don't find how to implement CQRS without using others patterns like a service Bus, event sourcing pattern, domain driven design. I know the purpose of these pattern but for the first step, I don't want them to think CQRS and theses patterns must be tied together. My first idea is to say that CQRS is about separating the read part and the write part. The read part is composed only of the UI project, and DAL project. Then the write part is composed of a typical multilayer architecture: UI/BLL/DAL. Then, does CQRS say we must also have two datastore ? What about the notion of commands which reveal the user's intention, is it also something part of CQRS or DDD ? Basically, how to implement CQRS without using others patterns. I concede it's also not that clear in my mind because I've used to work with NCQRS/DDD/Event Sourcing/ServiceBus in my personal project. Thanks

• WPF and Composite Application Library &ndash; Missing The Point

  I have a headache and it’s not even 9AM yet.  Well, ok, it’s nearly ten here now in GMT –5 but it’s before nine somewhere still. Sometimes people will miss the point of something so utterly and completely that one is left wondering how such a person can even dress themselves. Writing an application using WPF and the Composite Application Library (Prism) means that one must learn the various programming idioms common to these frameworks.  The Windows Forms event driven model simply will not suffice.  You need to come to grips with the idea of a very loosely coupled application.  Concepts that must be absorbed and internalized include Data Binding, Control and Data Templates, Commands, Dependency Injection, and Inversion of Control, as well as the Supervising Controller, Presentation Model and Model-View-View-Model patterns. It is as simple as that.  Not to embrace these concepts is to invite pain.  It is to invite noodles; and not the holy kind. Someone actually said to me that “just because it’s not WPF, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.”  And he’s right.  Unless, of course, you are writing a WPF application and especially if you are using the Composite Application Library. • unity top menu keyboard shortcuts for desktop alone, no programs running

  Alt+F1 accesses the launcher menu, with arrow keys to navigate the list (side menu). Alt+F10 accesses the top bar in an open application (or Alt+an underlined menu item letter), which allows access to the global ubuntu settings in the top right (battery, wifi/networking, audio, time/calendar, user, power). Alt+F10, when no application is open and you're just staring at the desktop, accesses those ubuntu settings immediately. But the top menu bar does list, in the top left, menu commands for the desktop per se (create new folder, go home, help, start server, etc). These can be accessed only by mouse hovering and click. No way to get to them only by keyboard (arrow keys just cycle through the settings, don't jump over to the left side of the top bar). Is there a keyboard shortcut way to access the desktop menu bar for manipulating icons on your desktop and other general things? Or is this a work in progress for unity? If you use the context menu key (or some equivalent you've set to generate that signal) along with other shortcuts for working on the desktop, you can cover most of the functionality of the top menu bar. However, I don't want to memorize those keys to become proficient. I just want a way to open and browse through those menu items (and they aren't ALL available through hotkeys anyway).

• Having trouble installing guest additions for a Xubuntu 13.10 guest OS in Virtualbox 4.2.10

  I am using Ubuntu 13.04 64-BIT as my host operating system running Virtual Box 4.2.10. I get this message when I tell virtualbox to install guest additions(CTRL+D),mounting the volume in the guest OS and run the VBoxLinuxAdditions.run file using root by: sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run It starts and then comes to these error messages: Verifying archive integrity... All good. Uncompressing VirtualBox 4.2.10 Guest Additions for Linux.......... VirtualBox Guest Additions installer Removing existing VirtualBox non-DKMS kernel modules ...done. Building the VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel modules The headers for the current running kernel were not found. If the following module compilation fails then this could be the reason. Building the main Guest Additions module ...done. Building the shared folder support module ...fail! (Look at /var/log/vboxadd-install.log to find out what went wrong) Doing non-kernel setup of the Guest Additions ...done. Installing the Window System drivers Warning: unknown version of the X Window System installed. Not installing X Window System drivers. Installing modules ...done. Installing graphics libraries and desktop services components ...done. allusers@allusers-VirtualBox:/media/allusers/VBOXADDITIONS_4.2.10_84104$ I followed everything from the official VirtualBox manual on installing guest additions for linux I used some other commands such as: sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) dkms and: sudo apt-get install virtualbox-guest-x11 I rebooted after executing those command and it still wont work. It still says the kernel modules are missing and the window is not seamless. Any idea what could be the problem?

• Black screen appears when booting new install of 11.10 on my desktop, cannot access Grub menu to fix

  I installed 11.10 on my desktop PC but get a black screen after the BIOS screen when I try to boot it. I was able to run 10.04.04 on my hard drive before installing 11.10 and I am also able to use 11.10 on my usb pendrive and CD ROM. I've tried unplugging all USB devices before booting and also upgrading from 11.10 to 11.10. Holding the shift key from the BIOS screen doesn't allow me to access the GRUB menu to try: Highlight the first entry, press “e” to edit it. Navigate to words “quiet splash”, delete them and type “nomodeset” in their place (without quotes). Press Ctrl + X to continue boot. Once on the desktop, go to System Administration Additional Drivers and activate the recommended drivers. So running 11.10 on my pendrive, I tried editing /etc/default/grub, commenting out the GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT setting by putting a '#' in front of it to display the grub menu and setting GRUB_TIMEOUT setting to a value greater than or equal to 1 e.g. GRUB_TIMEOUT=10. However, when I run sudo update-grub, I get: /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?) I get the same error with update-grub after: sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt and after: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda reboot sudo update-grub Other suggestions to fix the update-grub problem: Open synaptic, then purge all the related grub installed packages and reinstall grub-pc then and finally: sudo update-grub Or use Grub Customizer http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1195275 What would be the best way to approach this? I'm concerned about purging "all the related grub installed packages" but if it's true some files are corrupted this would seem necessary. Also, was I executing the correct commands i.e. with mount and grub-install, before running grub-update?

  What is the best way to submit a patch to fix all the damage that LP: #600941 causes? I ask because LP: #600941 was put into every version of Ubuntu still supported at this time. Should I pick a particular version and run ubuntu-bug on it? Should that version be the LTS or Oneiric or Precise (how can I get Precise if I need it?) The story is that after it was pushed out all of our systems started experiencing Nagios nrpe restart failures. Commands like /etc/init.d/nagios-nrpe-server restart would cause nrpe to stop but not restart. I tracked this down to the way that the /etc/init.d/nagios-nrpe-server script is calling start-stop-daemon. The issue is that the "stop" stanza in the /etc/init.d/nagios-nrpe-server script first calls start-stop-daemon which sends SIGTERM to nrpe and then waits only for one second. If nrpe has not exited by that time the pid file will still exist and the /etc/init.d/nagios-nrpe-server script will remove it. Worse if /etc/init.d/nagios-nrpe-server restart is used not only will the pid file be removed, the attempt to restart nrpe will fail provided that the nrpe daemon is still tardy in shutting down. The attempt to start under those circumstances will fail because nrpe will still be bound to a socket and the second attempt at binding will cause the nrpe startup to abort. They should have wondered why there was a comment about "sometimes the pid file does not get removed". They should have tested on systems that have a heavy load and therefore slow nrpe response times. The fix is to add --retry 10 or such to the invocation of start-stop-daemon ... --stop ... Thanks

  there! After trying to upgrade from Ubuntu 10.04 to 11, the upgrading process stopped when running and then I got an "out of disk, grub rescue" message when booting. After running Boot Repair, I got this results. Now I get "Missing Operating System" whent trying to boot. Bellow I show some results from some commands I gather from help foruns, but I still reached no solution. Could you please help me? Any enlightment will be very helpful! Disk Utility says "Disk has a few bad sectors". I saw there are terminal commands, im new to that too, will it cause some problem if i just copy and paste? PS: I saw my graphics card is undetected as well i have a ATI Mobility radeon HD 3200, could that cause the problem too?

• Wireless not working on desktop with Asus USB-N13 (B1) wireless adapter

  I am trying to connect my desktop to a wireless network. I have purchased an ASUS USB-N13 B1 adapter. I have followed instructions for installing drivers and disabling conflicting drivers. I have thoroughly searched and could not find a solution. The adapter is recognized and powered on. I have entered the ssid and password information into the wireless network configuration. Other machines can connect to this wireless network, and the machine can connect online via ethernet without issue. • Launcher icon size and window behavior broken

  I have installed the nvidia driver for my graphic card, just following some tutorials what works fine now. After this I could set the Icon size of the launcher, windows had a nice litte shadow, resolution was better and the windows showed up a nice effect when popping up an or when bringing to full-screen... But today the this was just gone after reboot. What could this be? Nvidia xserver-settings are availible. I installed and reinstalled wine1.5 via the apt-get commands, so this might broke something. What can do to fix this again? Greetings philipp EDIT: I went on searching and all i found was that this problem might be connected to the mode of unit, so there is 2d and 3d, but could also be something else, just because setting the mode brings no change. EDIT 2: the version of Ubuntu is: 12.04 and it is a 64 bit environment the graphic card is: GeForce GT 330M Edit 3: Using maps.google in webGL mode does not work anymore too, it was working yesterday. EDIT 4: the screenshot. btw: I think that blender is not working anymore too... EDIT: 5 I think that the problem is closely connected to this output

  Another version of this product is already installed.  Installation of this version cannot continue.  To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel I tried to install a new version of windows services that packed into 1 setup.msi and encounter the above mentioned error. To resolve it I tried google read lots of but then find the following article MSIEXEC - The power user's install steps to solve the error: 1. Execute the following command from command prompt: msiexec /i program_name.msi /lv logfile.log where program_name.msi is the new version /lv is log Verbose output   2. open up the logfile.log in the editor 3. find the GUID in it I found it like the following Product Code from property table before transforms: '{GUID}' 4. Above mentioned article suggest  to search it in the registry but to find the uninstall command. Try if you like to see it in the registry. you need to search twice to to get there there you I tried the following command as it mentioned in the above mentioned article but it didn’t work for me. so I keep digging until I got Windows 7 and Windows Installer Error “Another installation is in progress” It mentioned the use of msizap.exe 5.   by combining the commands from both the articles I able to uninstall the service successfully execute the following command from the visual studio command prompt if you already have installed or get it from Microsoft website http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa370523%28VS.85%29.aspx   msizap.exe TWP {GUID} it did the trick and removed the installed service successfully

  I can't manage to access my printer's memory card reader in Nautilus. I can just access it with hp-unload. • GlassFish Server 3.1.2.2 Maven Coordinates

  GlassFish Server 3.1.2.2 was released a few weeks ago. This micro release fixed a couple of important bugfixes - one in JAX-WS (JAX-WS-1059) and another one related to JK listener with Apache + mod_ajp_proxy (GLASSFISH-18446). This release is already integrated in NetBeans 7.2 and you can download separately from here. Maven coordinates for this build are now also described on the download page. • Nginx or Apache for a VPS?

  I consider myself to be an inexperienced user/administrator when it comes to running my VPS. I can get by with a few CLI commands, I can set up Webmin and I can set up Yum repos, but beyond the very basic stuff, I'm out of my depth. So far, I'm running Apache. I don't know it particularly well, but I can get by with editing httpd.conf if I'm told what to edit. I've heard good things about Nginx and that it's not as resource-hungry as Apache. I'd like to give it a go, but I can't find any information about its suitability for administrators like me, with little experience of sysadmin or web server config. Webmin now has support for Nginx, so getting it installed and running probably won't be too much of a problem. What I'm wondering is, from a site administrator perspective, is running Nginx as transparent as running Apache? IE, at the moment, I can just throw up Wordpress and Drupal sites without having much to worry about or having to make any config changes to Apache. Would Nginx be as transparent?

• Ubuntu installation does not recognize drive partitioning

When I now try to install Ubuntu 11.04 it does not recognize the Windows partition but offers the complete 1TB drive to install Ubuntu on instead. What do I need to do in order for Ubuntu to recognize the Windows 7 partition and install Ubuntu as a dual boot?   Possible Duplicate: How do you manage your knowledge base? Hello. Now I am using easy writing pad for scratches while doing some researches, solving troubles or doing workarounds. But.. you now, it's really difficult to remember all details of founded solution and it's alternatives after few months. And writing pad is not wery useful. Usually writing pad doesn't contains half of needed inforation: links founded in internet, output of some test commands and etc. Now I'am looking for a tool for storing information about my researches and it's results. Basic reqirements: ability to store files; ability to store formatted text (kind of HTML will be nice) with hyperlinks and code snippets; tags on notes; easy to use. Now I'am thinking about some kind of file-system organized storage, but I think it will be inconvenient. Another thinks is local wiki or blog. So, my question is: How do you organize you knowlege base? What tools do you use, and what "pros and cons".

• Can't boot into windows7/ubuntu 12.04 after running boot-repair

  I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my preinstalled windows 7 Sony vaio E series laptop following instructions here: http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/05/17/how-to-dual-boot-ubuntu-12-04-and-windows-7/ Everything went well and I am able to boot in to windows after complete installation of Ubuntu. Now following instructions on web I tried to add Ubuntu to my BIOS using Easy BCD (but forget to add windows 7 entry). As a result, I loose windows 7 OS and can't boot in to either OS then I successfully repaired windows 7 using recovery CD. Now my problem is that I can't reinstall Ubuntu 12.04 using Live CD it halts every time before disk partition step giving error. "ubi-partman crashed". "ubi-partman failed with exit code 141. further information may be found in /var/log/syslog. Do you want to try running this step again before continuing? If you do not, your installation may fail entirely or may be broken." and, any choice to continue will result in the same error. After that following some post solutions I ran boot-repair commands in terminal ( in Try Ubuntu mode) and got the following URL: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1206434/ Now, after restart I can't boot into either Windows or Ubuntu. Even any attempt to run Windows repair is failed and I got the message : 'No operating System found' I don't know what went wrong after running boot-repair command. Please help in solving this issue. • Picasa installs but is missing in the menu

  Acer Aspire One Netbook Running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10 (freshly installed) 1 GB Ram 150 GM HDD Space I am trying to install Picasa and when I do, it runs its course telling me that it has been installed. But when I try to look for Picasa to run it, it didnt show in the menu anywhere. I am unable to find Picasa on my system and it says that it has been installed already when I try to reinstall it. I have tried a few things; looked for the key: wget -q -O - https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | apt-key add - .. and then added it. tried the following commands after adding Picasa to my source list: sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install picasa and here is what I got: swapnil@iva-swapo-netbook:~$ sudo apt-get install picasa Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done picasa is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded. and when I tried to look for Picasa again.. I couldnt find it. So I am unable to install Picasa on my system. Please help. (I am also running this thread on ubuntu forums and havent got the solution yet so I am now here) tried Jorge's solution and it brought Picasa immediately, however I am unable to keep it in the launcher. There is no such option. All I can see is only 2 options: 1. Wine 2. Quit Still need help to keep it in the menu/launcher !

When finished I tried android-connect This returned fuse: bad mount point `/media/GalaxyTab': Transport endpoint is not connected Does anybody have a clue what to do? Also I want to note that when I connect my GalaxyTab 2 7.0 that I still get a pop-up of ubuntu that a device was connected. I also can still see the mapstructure, the problem however is is that all the folders have 0 bytes and do not have any subfolders. I can only see the folders in the root. ps. • Adventures in MVVM &ndash; My ViewModel Base &ndash; Silverlight Support!

  More Adventures in MVVM In my last post, I outlined the powerful features that are available in the ViewModelSupport.  It takes advantage of the dynamic features of C# 4.0 (as well as some 3.0 goodies) to help eliminate the plumbing that often comes with writing ViewModels.  If you are interested in learning about the capabilities, please take a look at that post and look at the code on CodePlex.  When I wrote about the ViewModel base class, I complained that the features did not work in Silverlight because as of 4.0, it does not support binding to dynamic properties.  Although I still think this is a bummer, I am happy to say that I have come up with a workaround.  In the Silverlight version of my base class, I include a PropertyCollectionConverter that lets you bind to dynamic properties in the ViewModelBase, especially the convention-based commands that the base class supports. To take advantage of any properties that are not statically defined, you can bind to the Properties property of the ViewModel and pass in a converter parameter for the name of the property you want to bind. For example, a ViewModel that looks like this: public class ExampleViewModel : ViewModelBase { public void Execute_MyCommand() { Set("Text", "Foo"); } } Can bind to the dynamic property and the convention-based command with the following XAML. <TextBlock Text="{Binding Properties, Converter={StaticResource PropertiesConverter}, ConverterParameter=Text}" Margin="5" /> <Button Content="Execute MyCommand" Command="{Binding Properties, Converter={StaticResource PropertiesConverter}, ConverterParameter=MyCommand}" Margin="5" /> Of course, it is not as pretty as binding to Text and MyCommand like you can in WPF.  But, it is better than having a failed feature.  This allows you to share your ViewModels between WPF and Silverlight very easily.  <BeatDeadHorse>Hopefully, in Silverlight 5.0, we will see binding to dynamic properties more directly????</BeatDeadHorse>
