  I have had a few issues with HtmlUnit returning nulls lately and am looking for guidance. each of my results for grabbing the first row of a website have returned null. • C#: Need one of my classes to trigger an event in another class to update a text box

  Total n00b to C# and events although I have been programming for a while. I have a class containing a text box. This class creates an instance of a communication manager class that is receiving frames from the Serial Port. I have this all working fine. Every time a frame is received and its data extracted, I want a method to run in my class with the text box in order to append this frame data to the text box. So, without posting all of my code I have my form class... public partial class Form1 : Form { CommManager comm; public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); comm = new CommManager(); } private void updateTextBox() { //get new values and update textbox } . . . and I have my CommManager class class CommManager { //here we manage the comms, recieve the data and parse the frame } SO... essentially, when I parse that frame, I need the updateTextBox method from the form class to run. I'm guessing this is possible with events but I can't seem to get it to work. I tried adding an event handler in the form class after creating the instance of CommManager as below... comm = new CommManager(); comm.framePopulated += new EventHandler(updateTextBox); ...but I must be doing this wrong as the compiler doesn't like it... Any ideas?!

  Hi everyone, I have a one-to-many relationship between Part and Params (a "Part" has many "Params). I'm trying to do something naive like this: Part sourcePart = em.find(Part.class, partIdSource); Part destPart = em.find(Part.class, partIdDest); Collection<Param> paramListSource = sourcePart.getParamList(); destPart.setParamList(paramListSource); Basically I want to copy all the parameters from sourcePart to destPart. Hopefully the persistence provider will automatically set the right foreign keys in the Param table/entity. The above code will obviously not work. Is there any easy way of doing this, or do I have to do create a new collection, then add each Param (creating new Param, setting attributes, etc) ?

Just loaded up a gem 'devise' and as I tried to migrate my database changes, it wouldn't work: $ rake db:migrate rake aborted! attr_accessible is extracted out of Rails into a gem. Please use new recommended protection model for params(strong_parameters) or add protected_attributes to your Gemfile to use old one. Then, following another Stackoverflow post, they recommended installing Bundler. • How to programmatically create a node in Drupal 8?

  I'm designing a new module in Drupal 8. It's a long-term project that won't be going public for a few months at least, so I'm using it as a way to figure out what's new. In this module, I want to be able to programmatically create nodes. In Drupal 7, I would do this by creating the object, then calling "node_submit" and "node_save". These functions no longer exist in Drupal 8. Instead, according to the documentation, "Modules and scripts may programmatically submit nodes using the usual form API pattern." I'm at a loss. What does this mean? I've used Form API to create forms in Drupal 7, but I don't get what the docs are saying here. What I'm looking to do is programmatically create at least one and possibly multiple new nodes, based on information not taken directly from a user-presented form. I need to be able to: 1) Specify the content type 2) Specify the URL path 3) Set any other necessary variables that would previously have been handled by the now-obsolete node_object_prepare() 4) Commit the new node object I would prefer to be able to do this in an independent, highly abstracted function not tied to a specific block or form. So what am I missing?

• UI - How I can make users effectively read what my program says?

  I have a simple form that searches through the 2000+ issues of a 3rd party webcomic. (Easy, it's like xkcd: http://url/number That form is as easy as possible, is like this: What number do you want? User writes a number, clicks ok, and goes on the 3rd party website on a new tab Then, my form asks a question: "Did you find that issue memorable? Enter the name here, and we will add it to the "best issues" in home page" When the user will write the name of the issue, it is added to the database (pending moderation by me) So, I supposed this design is the easiest and convenient that users can find. Unfortunately, NONE of the users (maybe a 2% behaved correctly) will actually read what I asked. Some of the issues are offline, and gives a 404. On that issues users will write in the textbox a completely wrong title, and correctly capitalized! It's like if i would name http://xkcd.com/627/ as "The Great Adventures of Jack Smith" Users are from around all over the country, with different browsers, and have a different cookie. I cannot believe that my users will not read what I ask, it is a WHITE PAGE with a button that disappears when clicked and a textbox.... easier than that??? Maybe i should put a checkbox with "I acknowledge that this form is for submitting memorable issues, not for fun"? Oh, who will read that? Or maybe i could enable the textbox only if the user has effectively clicked the link?

  I on the Show of "Contacts" and want, from that page, to submit a Comment that is related to the Contact. I learned this on a pretty outdated book. Basically, I want to add a new object belonging to a Model while on the Show of a different Model. Would formtastic help me, and if so, how?

• Rails is not passing the "commit" button parameter

  Reinstalling a Rails app on a new server. Part of the app can fork in one of two directions based on the button the user selects. This part isn't working, and when I look at the log I see the values that I gave the form, execept for the commit portion of the params hash. This seems to be why the app isn't working as expected (since there's nothing in params[:commit], but I have no idea why commit would not be passed in; the request is definitely a POST request, and all of the other parameters are there.

• Human readable URL causes a problem in Ruby on Rails

  I have a basic CRUD with "Company" model. To make the company name show up, I did def to_param name.parameterize end Then I accessed http://localhost:3000/companies/american-express which runs show action in the companies controller. Obviously this doesn't work because the show method is as following: def show @company = Company.find_by_id(params[:id]) end The params[:id] is american-express. This string is not stored anywhere. Do I need to store the short string (i.e., "american-express") in the database when I save the record? Or is there any way to retrieve the company data without saving the string in the database?

  Question ASP and ASP.NET web applications use a value called VIEWSTATE in forms. From what I understand, this is used to persist some kind of state on the client between requests to the web server. I have never worked with ASP or ASP.NET and need some help with two questions (and some sub-questions): 1) Is it possible to programmatically spoof/construct a VIEWSTATE for a form? Clarification: can a program look at a form and from that construct the contents of the base64-encoded VIEWSTATE value? 1 a) Or can it always just be left out? 1 b) Can an old VIEWSTATE for a particular form be reused in a later invocation of the same form, or would it just be luck if that worked? 2) I gather from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms972976.aspx#viewstate_topic12 that it is possible to turn on security so that the VIEWSTATE becomes secure from spoofing. Is it possible for a program to detect that a VIEWSTATE is safeguarded in such a way? 2 a) Is there a one-to-one mapping between the occurrence of EVENTVALIDATION values and secure VIEWSTATEs? Regarding 1) and 2), if yes, can I have a hint about how I would do that? For 2) I am thinking I could base64-decode the value and search for a string that always is found in unencrypted VIEWSTATEs. "First:"? Something else? Background I have made a small tool for detecting and exploiting so called CSRF vulnerabilities. I use it to quickly make proof of concepts of such vulnerabilities that I send to the affected site owners. • Jquery.Validate plugin + realPerson plugin

  I can't figure out how to make it so the form wont fire unless the realPerson captcha is "valid". I can see that when the user types in the correct/valid letters and clicks submit it adds a class of "valid" to the input. • No matter what, I can't get this stupid progress bar to update from a thread!

  I have a Windows app written in C (using gcc/MinGW) that works pretty well except for a few UI problems. One, I simply cannot get the progress bar to update from a thread. In fact, I probably can't get ANY UI stuff to update. Basically, I have a spawned thread that does some processing, and from that thread I attempt to update the progress bar in the main thread. I tried this by using PostMessage() to the main hwnd, but no luck even though I can do other things like open message boxes. However, it's unclear whether the message box is getting called within the thread or on the main thread. • Authlogic Help! Registering a new user when currently logged-in as a user not working.

  Hi Just as a disclaimer I am new to rails and programming in general so apologize for misunderstanding something obvious. I have Authlogic with activation up and running. So for my site I would like my users who are logged in to be able to register other users. The new user would pick their login and password through the activation email, but the existing user needs to put them in by email, position and a couple other attributes. I want that to be done by the existing user. The problem I am running into, if I am logged in and then try and create a new user it just tries to update the existing user and doesn't create a new one. I am not sure if there is some way to fix this by having another session start??? If that is even right/possible I wouldn't know how to go about implementing it. I realize without knowing fully about my application it may be difficult to answer this, but does this even sound like the right way to go about this? Am I missing something here? • Dealing with image upload on server

  I have got a the following problem: I have got multi-step form where in one step user upload image to server and then few steps further supplies other information, when this information is invalid no data should be commited - also the image should be deleted. I was thinking about PHP session, but I've read here PHP - Store Images in SESSION data? that it is inefficient way. Every time you proceed step in the form the image is reloaded (in the session) and as somebody mentioned "You will want it to only be as big as it needs to be and you need to delete it as soon as you don't need it because large pieces of information in the session will slow down the session startup." - here i got a question: will it slow down the stratup the session of user who upload file or sessions of all users? I have to mention that I'm looking for solution that doesn't rely on operating system scripts (cron or etc) - I have no permission to run such scripts. The perfect solution for me would be: saving image on disk (for example in some folder named after session id) then after the latest step of form move this image or delete depending on form validation. If user unexpectedly destroy the session (for example closing the browser) of course the folder with image should be deleted. In nutshell I need somethig like callback to event "destroying session".
