• Connecting my iPhone to iTunes causes my Acer laptop to crash

  Hello I have an Acer Travelmate 8200 laptop and whenever I connect my Iphone to it, it crashes with the BSOD(Blue Screen Of Death). I have figured out that if I delete all the pictures in my phone I can get it to connect but that is not a ideal long term solution. I also read that it may be a conflict with the built in web-cam I have but I've upgraded the driver and I still get the crashing problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated! • Can make the proxy settings invisible when I share my internet connection via wifi?

  This is probably a long shot... I have an HTC Desire and frustratingly found out after I got it that it doesn't support network proxy settings. We have a wireless network at my office that uses a proxy. My desktop at work runs ubuntu. I was wondering if the following set up would work: Plug a USB Wireless adapter into the desktop that has a working internet connection using the proxy. Setup the wireless adapter as an ad-hoc network Share the internet connection over the ad-hoc network. Make it so that the use of the proxy is invisible to users of the shared network connection. Connect the Android phone to the ad-hoc wireless network and utilise the internet connection. My question is this: Is this possible or should I give up now and not even try? I think I can handle steps 1, 2, 3 and 5. I just have no idea if step 4 even makes sense, let alone is possible. Thanks

  My company has over service through Verizon, and AT&T Service in the area is "shoddy" at its best, so I haven't been able to join the "iPhone party" like so many of my fellow system administrators have been able to. That being said, this week finally a phone I like has hit Verizon, the HTC Incredible. (I've been waiting for the Desire or Nexus One, but after seeing spec sheets and reviews, HTC Incredible comes out ahead anyway). • Conference Calling Meetme.conf PROBLEM - Astarisk

  I am facing problem in conference calling (OS ubuntu latest) ... I created a conference Room and an extension no .. when i dial from my softphone (3cx or X-Lite) it says "YOU ARE ENTERING CONFERENCE NO 1234. YOU ARE CURRENTLY THE ONLY PERSON IN THE CONFERENCE) and then a music for a second and then shows connected... Now when i dial form another soft phone the same extension it goes to second conference room and plays the same message .. if i create only one conference room .. the second no. didn't connect to it and says no conference room. CAN some one help me out .... I just want to create a conference room OR extension where 4-5 or 6 people can call and make a conference ... i am not very much expert in linux and asterisk so simple steps to achieve my goal .. • Keep outlook and Gmail contacts in Sync

  What free (or better, open source) applications do you know of to keep outlook and Gmail contacts in sync? I need my outlook and Gmail accounts to be in sync, since my phone can only connect to Gmail... I've tried GO Contact Sync, but it won't preserve categories, and I also tried Gcontactsynchbut it seems outdated. Google Apps Sync is only for paying users, and Chapura too. Any application out there that does great sync between gmail and outlook? Thanks! CFP.

• Will Bluetooth hands-free drivers be installed if BT stack doesn't support A2DP?

  I have a hands-free device which has no problems being paired with windows and I can set it to be the default sound output device, I don't actually hear anything on the unit, but it worked fine with GNU/Linux and with my mobile phone. From what I can see, the cause of that is usually a problem with Bluetooth stack. I think that I have Broadcom Bluetooth stack installed, so it should be working but it isn't. To make things better, my Bluetooth radio is integrated into my laptop and manufacturer isn't providing drivers for it and Broadcom itself recently pulled support, so I can't just reinstall the stack to make sure I have newest version.

• Network email alerts

  I would like to buy or d/l an application that will alert our sysadmin in the event of network failure, like via email and/or phone call. I've looked around the net before posting this question, but I have one main concern: if our network goes down, how can a network monitoring application send email to alert us that it's down? Doesn't this have to be an external application that looks at our network from outside? Well anyway, I want to find something that will handle this for us - freeware if possible, sice we're not looking for heavy analysis - just simple alerts. Advice is appreciated.

• Usage of two Routers on LAN

  I've currently own a Linksys E4200 and a Thomson 546v6. Because I have an IPTV service I must set the Thomson as the main router connected to the phone line so that I can distribute the video signal for 2 specific ports and the other two for LAN Access. The problem is that the Thomson doesn't like port forwards, it usually doesnt work and since I have a good router (linksys) currently only working as Access Point I would like to use it as a router itself. I don't want to do a NAT beyond NAT so my question is should I connect the E4200 and to thomson and set the E4200 as a DMZ machine and then control all trafic on the E4200 itself or is there any other option that could suit my needs better?

• My internet drops and will only reconnect if I troubleshoot it or restart my computer.

  My internet loses its connection and at the same time, and my speaker seems broken if that happens and my mouse will not be smooth as it was before it happens. It already happened before and I didnt mind it. But now, it's happening literally all the time. After startup, my connection seems okay but after some few minutes, even without me doing something, my laptop will just lose its connection. It says that it is not connected and connections are available, but if I check if there are connections where I can connect it shows nothing. Even if, there is actually a wi-fi connection where my phone and other laptops connect. They dont seem to have problem with it. Just my laptop. After that happens, I usually restart my laptop but I discovered that troubleshooting it would somehow repair the problem, but not all the time. It says that restarting my wireless adapter do the job. Are there any long term fix? I mean that could last long or totally erase the problem? I have Atheros AR5B97 Wireless Network Adapter and Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter, both enabled. On the services, I have Wired AutoConfig and WLAN AutoConfig on Automatic. • Can I do a "one-time" file content search in Windows Server 2008 without adding the folder to the index?

  Can I search for files which contain a specific string in a folder if that folder is not in the search index? So, lets say folder 'textFiles' is not in the index. I navigate to this folder in windows explorer. I type '.ini' in the search box I want to see a result list containing only 'b.txt' FOLDER C:\textFiles\ FILE a.php CONTENT once twice thrice mice moose monkey FILE b.txt CONTENT mingle muddle middle.ini banana beer FILE c.spo CONTENT sellotape stapler phone book I do not have permission to add folders to the windows index and I do not have permission to install or run any executables that did not ship with the server or approved applications. I have a Netgear DGN 2000 modem router on 192.168.0.1 and a Lynksys Phone Adapter PAP2 on 192.168.0.2. • Website loading until initial script finishes

  Hi, i have a highly used server (running plesk). I have some long scripts that take a while to process (huge mysql database). I have found then in 1 browser, i run the script and while it is loading i cannot view any other parts of the site until the script finishes, it seems that all the requests go off, but they don't get served until the initial script finishes. i thought this may be a server wide issue, but it is not. If i use another computer i can view the site fine, even on the same computer with a different browser i can navigate fine, while the script still loads. I think it much limit the number of requests per session. Is this correct? is there any way to configure this to allow for 2-3 other requests per session? It is really bad that when i am on the phone to a client, i have just run a long report, but cannot use the site or follow what they are saying until the page has loaded? Chris

• What can I do to enhance MacBook Pro internal mic sound quality in iMovie?

  After using MacBook for two years, I bought 17'' MacBook Pro. I'm pretty happy with it, performance and all, but I also was going to record some music videos for YouTube. I play guitar and sing. However I was extremely disappointed with the sound quality that comes by default. I'm 100% sure my 13'' MacBook mic was much better at recording music and singing. Currently mic can't event handle acoustic guitar, outputting sound you'd think was recorded 5 years ago in ARM format on a Nokia phone on a loud concert. It totally feels like some lame filter is cutting low and high frequencies. I want to know what settings (visible or hidden) in iMovie or Mac OS itself I might want to tweak in order to get my MBP mic record clean sound.

  I am currently looking for a new hosting company for my business. We are a design and development company and have been recommending WestHost to our clients for the last several years. However due to some changes they have implemented in the last year, we have decided to start referring people elsewhere. Most of our clients need affordable Linux hosting with the basics. SSH is also a definite must and 24/7 support (preferably phone, as well as email/ticket system) that won't cost extra. An easy to use and understand control panel would be nice as well. I have heard good things about HostGator, and am wondering if anyone has experience with them. The prices seem right and they have everything we need. We are also thinking of purchasing a dedicated server with them for a specific project that's going to require one. I don't know if I am asking this in the right place, if this is not welcome here please let me know.

• new ubuntu server installation - java server not receiving packets

  I have developed a Java server which listens for UDP packets which come from mobile devices. At the moment, it works correctly if I run my Server on my windows PC. I can receive and respond to the UDP packets sent from my phone (over 3g, not wifi). However, I am trying to run the Server on a different computer which I found lying around my house. I have basically done a clean install of Ubuntu Server edition, updated it, installed the java run time environment and configured port forwarding to allow connections on the appropriate port. I have also tried to disable the firewall. The problem is, it doesn't appear as if the server is receiving any packets and I've exhausted my brain thinking on how to solve/debug the problem. Can anyone suggest to me what the problem might be? or more likely something I can do to help me find out more information about what is going wrong.

• Sync a specific folder of contacts to iPhone

  Is there a simple way to organize contacts in Outlook/Entourage and only have a subset of them synchronize with the iPhone over Exchange ActiveSync? Our CEO has thousands of contacts in his mailbox, but would prefer if only a small portion of them synched to his phone over the air... The iPhone's performance takes a huge hit keeping that massive dataset in order. If he could put some of the records in subfolders or something and only sync the top level, I think that would work for him. Does anyone know if this is possible?

• Is there anything like a link or shared mount point for FAT32 folders in Linux/Android?

  I often want the same files to be accessed by different apps on my Android phone, but the apps look in different folders. Is there a way to make two different folder paths on a FAT SD card point to the same file? For EXT, I think I could do this with a symbolic or hard link, but those don't exist for FAT. Can FAT be extended to support them? Can Android use an EXT-formatted SD card? Can a folder be mounted on top of another folder? If this does exist, does it have any negative side effects?

• How to kill volume when headphones pulled out

  I often use headphones in order to listen to music in work time. However my chair tends to occasionally have the tendency to yank the headphone cable from my laptop. Now with my Android phone this wouldn't be a problem as the music will automatically stop playing. However, Windows does not kill the volume and instead re-routes the sound to my laptop internal speaker system. Aside from turning off my laptop speakers - is there a small utility available which serves my purpose of killing the volume so my work associates aren't inflicted with erroneous musical tastes?

  I replaced my first iPhone (upgraded from version 1 to 3G) about 18 months ago. Since the upgrade, my original iPhone has been just sitting on shelf in my office. I am thinking about dusting off my old iPhone, reactivating through AT&T and giving it to my wife. The phone hasn't been used for quite some time and the battery is completely dead. I'm not sure about iPhone battery lifetimes, but I'm questioning whether a charge will keep. Should I invest in a new iPhone or take a chance reactivating the old one?

• Significant OS X Finder lag when listing directories/files

  I'm experiencing some significant OS X finder lag, that seems to be purely an issue with Finder itself, and not the HD or any other part of OS X (I'll explain below). The lag only appears to be when listing directories/files, where I'm seeing up to twelve or so seconds of lag (the folder opens with a blank list and the spinner going in the bottom right). This happens with both the local SSD and network drives (connected via ethernet or wifi) Browsing both local and network drives in terminal and listing directories is instant I can actually browse files on my NAS from my phone over a 3G connection from the other side of the country faster than Finder can when connected to the local network (madness!) • Provisioning SIP Phones over the internet

  I have a few SIP Phones that are located of site and connect to my PBX over the internet to make calls. For some reason one of these phones has become unprovisioned. In my office phones get provisioned by the server via TFTP. The ones that I have off site I pre-provisioned manually before I sent them off-site (I'm in Florida the phone is in New Jersey). Whats the best way to provision these over the internet? TFTP is very insecure. Sending the plain text profiles with the SIP Account and Password over the internet is out of the question. The phones have been off-site for about 6 months without any issues. Im using Trixbox and Cisco 7940 Phones.

  This is driving me nuts. I have Postfix/Dovecot set up on Centos 6 VPS for my emails. I can send and receive emails without any problems on my outlook (home broadband), on my Android phone (3G connection), however when I set up exactly the same email account on Outlook at my friends house I'm getting bouncebacks when I'm trying to send email (receiving works fine): 554 5.7.1 : Relay access denied Now if it wasn't working at all I'd understand, but why is it working on several internet connections, but not everywhere? Can someone shed some light on this? Where should I look for the problem?

• Windows Mobile deletes my Contacts when deleting a partnership

  Sometimes when I reinstall my PC get a new Work PC or buy a new home PC ,ActiveSync, now the Device Center asks me to delete an existing partnership to setup a partnership with the new PC, since only two partnerships are allowed. When I delete that partnership all contacts that originally came from that partnership get deleted too. How can I prevent that from happening. Do I really always have to remember to frequently backup all my contacts in a safe place? How much redundancy is needed. I hat them on one of my PCs and on my phone.
