According to this blog post, the xsi:type attribute is special and can't be accessed by usal keywords/functions. How can I do it? • Do you gain any operations when you constrain a generic type using where T : struct?

I understand that this allows you to restrict the type used to be a value type. My question is, without any type constraint, you can do a limited number of operations on T. Do you gain the ability to use any additional operations when you specify where T : struct, or is the only value in restricting the types you can pass in?

• How to structure an index for type ahead for extremely large dataset using Lucene or similar?

  I have a dataset of 200million+ records and am looking to build a dedicated backend to power a type ahead solution. Lucene is of interest given its popularity and license type, but I'm open to other open source suggestions as well. I am looking for advice, tales from the trenches, or even better direct instruction on what I will need as far as amount of hardware and structure of software. Requirements: Must have: The ability to do starts with substring matching (I type in 'st' and it should match 'Stephen') The ability to return results very quickly, I'd say 500ms is an upper bound. Nice to have: The ability to feed relevance information into the indexing process, so that, for example, more popular terms would be returned ahead of others and not just alphabetical, aka Google style. In-word substring matching, so for example ('st' would match 'bestseller') Note: This index will purely be used for type ahead, and does not need to serve standard search queries. I am not worried about getting advice on how to set up the front end or AJAX, as long as the index can be queried as a service or directly via Java code.   Here is what I am trying to do. I tried to add another folder to apache and I get the following error when trying to acces testing/index.html. The idea is that I would like to have for every customer a folder like /home/neagoe/Work/InterWebs/Projects/[PROJECT NAME]/CustomerProjects/website/dist. Forbidden You don't have permission to access /index.html on this server.   I work near some PeopleSoft guys and they asked how to change a link in an email notification sent by PeopleSoft so that it is friendly, basically they just wanted the use of an HTML anchor. After sitting down with them and looking through the code I found that the default mime type for all email notifications is text/plain and there does not seem to be any kind of an email API that is called which would allow setting the mime type of the body to text/html. Furthermore, there seems to be no general email configuration in PeopleSoft to, for example, set the default mime type for all emails. Do you know how to change the mime type of an email in PeopleSoft?

• Possibility of language data type not mapped to shipped .NET Framework?

  Does anybody know of a managed programming language implemented on .NET that contains a specialized data type that is not mapped through to the Common Type System/FCL/BCL or one that does not have a shipped .NET equivalent (e.g. shipped standard types like System.String, System.Int32)? This question would likely come from the perspective of someone porting a compiler (although I'm not doing that). Is it as simple as the language creating a new data type outside the BCL/FCL for its specialized type? If so does this hinder interoperability between programming languages that are otherwise accustomed to mapping all their built-in data types to what's in the BCL/FCL, like Visual Basic and C#? I can imagine this situation might come about if an obscure language compiler of some kind is ported to .NET for which there is no direct mapping of one of its implicit data types to the shipped Framework. How is this situation supported or allowed in general? What would be the expectation of the compiler and the Common Language Runtime?

  In my XML schema I have an element being referenced tens of times by other elements but with different enumerated values for one of its attribute. For now, instead of creating this element in global space and referencing it later, I am creating a new instance wherever it is needed. This approach has increased my schema size enormously because of repeated creation of almost same element many times. It also may have adverse effect on efficiency of the schema. The only way that I see is to create element once and then reference it many times but my problem is: one of the attribute of this referenced element is required to have a different set of enumerations for each referencing element. My question is: Is it possible to to add an attribute to a "Referenced Element" in XML Schema? • How can fill a variable of my own created data type within Oracle PL/SQL?

  In Oracle I've created a data type: TABLE of VARCHAR2(200) I want to have a variable of this type within a Stored Procedure (defined locally, not as an actual table in the DB) and fill it with data. Some online samples show how I'd use my type if it was filled and passed as a parameter to the stored procedure: SELECT column_value currVal FROM table(pMyPassedParameter) However what I want is to fill it during the PL/SQL code itself, with INSERT statements. Anyone knows the syntax of this?

• Hit Testing with CALayer using the alpha properties of the CALayer contents.

  I'm writing a game for Mac using Cocoa. I'm currently implementing hit testing and have founds that CALayer offers hit testing, but does not seem to implement the alpha properties. As I have at times many CALayers stacked on top of each other, I really need to find a way to determine what the user actually meant to click on. I'm thinking if I could somehow get an array that contains pointers to all of the CALayers that contain the click point, I could filter through them some how. However the only way I've got so far to create the array is: NSMutableArray* anArrayOfLayers = [NSMutableArray array]; for (CALayer* aLayer in mapLayer.sublayers) { if ([aLayer containsPoint:mouseCoord]) [anArrayOfLayers addObject:aLayer]; } Then sort the array by the CALayer's z-values then go through checking if the pixel at location is alpha or not. However, between the sort and the alpha check this seems to be an incredible performance hog. (How would you even check the alpha?) Is there any way to do this?

• Beginner, learning as I go - how to get C#/SQLite db set up and ready for testing?

  I've messed with Access a little bit in the past, had one class on OO theory, and one class on console c++ apps. Now, as a hobby project, I'm undertaking to write an actual app, which will be a database app using System.Data.SQLite and C#. I have the db's table structure planned. I have System.Data.SQLite installed and connected to VS Pro. I entered my tables and columns in VS, but that's where I'm stuck. I really don't know how to finish the db set up so I can start creating queries and testing the db structure. Can someone give me guidance to online resources that will help me learn how to get the db properly set up so I can proceed with testing it? I'm hoping for online resources specific to beginners using C# and System.Data.SQLite, but I'll use the closest I can get. Thanks.

  Everything about Type is reflective in nature. Is it because Type is used more often than the rest of the classes in System.Reflection? Or because it functions more like a system class than a reflection class? In short, I've always wondered what the motivation behind the location of System.Type was.

  I have written a generic type: IDirectorySource<T> where T : IDirectoryEntry, which I'm using to manage Active Directory entries through my interfaces objects: IGroup, IOrganizationalUnit, IUser. So that I can write the following: IDirectorySource<IGroup> groups = new DirectorySource<IGroup>(); // Where IGroup implements `IDirectoryEntry`, of course.` foreach (IGroup g in groups.ToList()) { listView1.Items.Add(g.Name).SubItems.Add(g.Description); } From the IDirectorySource<T>.ToList() methods, I use reflection to find out the appropriate constructor for the type parameter T. However, since T is given an interface type, it cannot find any constructor at all! Of course, I have an internal class Group : IGroup which implements the IGroup interface. No matter how hard I have tried, I can't figure out how to get the constructor out of my interface through my implementing class.
