  • python script to download xml files on my server

    I need a python script that will do the following: connect to a URL, and that URL will return a number like 1200. Use the number, to download xml files named: 1 to x where x is the number from #1. store the files in a particular directory. Sorry I've never written a python script, so if you could guide me along that would be great (maybe with a some comments). I will be running this as a cron job if that matters.

  • How to write and read browser cache from Flex

    Hi, I have a flex application that makes use of the autocomplete control. And I use a web service to download the data after successful login. My problem is that the data in Mb is about 4Mb and it takes quite a while to decompress in the application (after downloading it every time). Is there a way to make use of the browser cache to store that data from flex to save time on downloading that data each time? Regards, Yves

  • Two Firefox windows vs two browsers? Ram Consumption

    I don't know enough about Ram & sharing to know what the difference is here. Normally, I run Chrome in one desktop for personal use, and Firefox on a second desktop for business. I like the separation of saved passwords and whatnot. However, I recently learned that I can open two different profiles in Firefox at the same time, so I was wondering if that would be cheaper to my system resources, or not? Out the door, I don't think it would save more than 40-60mb of ram... but I'm wondering, 3 hours later, if ram handling will be better using just one browser for all my heavy lifting. I only have 2gb of ram and I run iTunes and Photoshop as well, almost all day. So I like to save ram where I can. Any thoughts? UPDATE: I've been centering around chrome more recently and using firefox for testing. Dev isn't bad on Chrome and it's great at releasing memory when I close tabs. In retrospect, I think the best answer to this question is simply for me to buy another 2gb of ram.

  • How to handle ordering of @Rule's when they are dependant on eachother

    I use embedded servers that run inside Junit test cases. Sometimes these servers require a working directory (for example the Apache Directory server). The new @Rule in Junit 4.7 can handle these cases. The TemporaryFolder-Rule can create a temporary directory. A custom ExternalResource-Rule can be created for server. However this does not work because Junit processes the rules in reverse order as they are defined in the file. The TemporaryFolder Rule will not be executed before the server Rule. Thus the root-folder in TempraryFolder will be null, resulting that any files are created relative to the current working directory. If I reverse the order of the attributes in my class I get a compile error because I cannot reference a variable before it is defined. I'm using Junit 4.8.1 (because the ordering of rules was fixed a bit from the 4.7 release)

  • Using MySQL to generate daily sales reports with filled gaps, grouped by currency

    I'm trying to create what I think is a relatively basic report for an online store, using MySQL 5.1.45 The store can receive payment in multiple currencies. I have created some sample tables with data and am trying to generate a straightforward tabular result set grouped by date and currency so that I can graph these figures. I want to see each currency that is available per date, with a 0 in the result if there were no sales in that currency for that day. If I can get that to work I want to do the same but also grouped by product id. In the sample data I have provided there are only 3 currencies and 2 product ids, but in practice there can be any number of each. I can correctly group by date, but then when I add a grouping by currency my query does not return what I want. I based my work off this article.     When considering social web app architecture, is it a better approach to document user social patterns in a database or in logs? I thought for sure that behavior, actions, events would be strictly database stored but I noticed that some of the larger social sites out there also track a lot by logging what happens. Is it good practice to store prominent data about users in a database and since thousands of user actions can be spawned easily, should they be simply logged?
