    Hello SO, I'm trying to do user impersonation for a web application we have. The user selects the user they'd like to emulate/impersonate and then clicks the button which fires this: protected void uxImpersonate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { ... FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(uxUserToEmulate.SelectedValue, false); Response.Redirect("Impersonation.aspx"); //reload page manually } We have a dev - test - production server environment and on two servers this works just fine, but on another one, in all browsers, it kicks me to the login screen. What's going on and how can I fix it? We're on ASP.NET 2.0, and I'm using http://stackoverflow.com/questions/549016/user-impersonation-with-asp-net-forms-authentication as a guide. UPDATE: It appears that the user actually is impersonated successfully but is loosing their Role as admin (only Admin Role's can access this impersonation page).

How to convert it to XML? I can Do it with Dataset Object and ".GetXML()" method. but how to implement it with LINQtoSQL or LINQtoXML??? or if there is another simpler way to perform that? what is your suggestion? the best way?     What's the best disassembler tool for the .NET reflector? By best I mean, saving a .NET assembly in a disassembled state in most readable, most likely to compile with fewer changes. The current one I use doesn't show simplified enumeration but shows the full IEnumerable implementations with MoveNext, etc with member names like: this.<4_state CS$<9_CachedAnonymousMethodDelegate3 Btw I am not trying to steal code, just trying out certain things on an already existing assembly instead of writing a similar thing from scratch. In the end, it's what I will learn from this that will stay, not the modified assembly.

    I (and co-hackers) are building a sort of trivia game inspired by this blog post: http://messymatters.com/calibration. The idea is to give confidence intervals and learn how to be calibrated (when you're "90% sure" you should be right 90% of the time). We're thus looking for, ideally, thousands of questions with unambiguous numerical answers. Also, they shouldn't be too boring. There are a lot of random statistics out there -- eg, enclosed water area in different countries -- that would make the game mind-numbing. Things like release dates of classic movies are more interesting (to most people). Other interesting ones we've found include Olympic records, median incomes for different professions, dates of famous inventions, and celebrity ages. Scraping things like above, by the way, was my reason for asking this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2611418/scrape-html-tables So, if you know of other sources of interesting numerical facts (in a parsable form) I'm eager for pointers to them.   • Create popup "toaster" notifications in Windows with .NET

    I am using .NET and am creating a desktop app/service that will display notifications in the corner of my Desktop when certain events are triggered. I don't want to use a regular Message Box b/c that would be too intrusive. I want notifications to slide into view and then fade out after a few seconds. I am thinking of something that will act very much like the Outlook alerts that one gets when a new message arrives. The question is: Should I use WPF for this? I've never done anything with WPF but will happily try it if that's best means to the end. Is there a way to accomplish this with regular .NET libraries?

    This questions involves 2 different implementations of essentially the same code. First, using delegate to create a Comparison method that can be used as a parameter when sorting a collection of objects: class Foo { public static Comparison<Foo> BarComparison = delegate(Foo foo1, Foo foo2) { return foo1.Bar.CompareTo(foo2.Bar); }; } I use the above when I want to have a way of sorting a collection of Foo objects in a different way than my CompareTo function offers. For example: List<Foo> fooList = new List<Foo>(); fooList.Sort(BarComparison); Second, using IComparer: public class BarComparer : IComparer<Foo> { public int Compare(Foo foo1, Foo foo2) { return foo1.Bar.CompareTo(foo2.Bar); } } I use the above when I want to do a binary search for a Foo object in a collection of Foo objects. For example: BarComparer comparer = new BarComparer(); List<Foo> fooList = new List<Foo>(); Foo foo = new Foo(); int index = fooList.BinarySearch(foo, comparer); My questions are: What are the advantages and disadvantages of each of these implementations? What are some more ways to take advantage of each of these implementations? Is there a way to combine these implementations in such a way that I do not need to duplicate the code? Can I achieve both a binary search and an alternative collection sort using only 1 of these implementations?

    Hello - I have a few questions (so far) with the the LocationManager on Android and GPS in general.. Feel free to answer any number of the questions below, and I appreciate your help in advance! (I noticed this stuff doesn't appear to be documented very well, so hopefully these questions will help others out too!) 1) I am using the following code, but I think there may be extra fluff in here that I do not need. Can you tell me if I can delete any of this? LocationManager lm = (LocationManager) getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE); LocationListener locationListener = new MyLocationListener(); lm.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 0, 0, locationListener); LocationProvider locationProvider = lm.getProvider("gps"); Location currentLocation = lm.getLastKnownLocation(locationProvider.getName()); 2) Is there a way to hold off on the last step (accessing "getLastKnownLocation" until after I am sure I have a GPS lock? What happens if this is called and GPS is still looking for signal? 3) MOST importantly, I want to ensure I have a GPS lock before I proceed to my next method, so is there a way to check to see if GPS is locked on and getLastKnownLocation is up to date? 4) Is there a way to 'shut down' the GPS listener once it does receive a lock and getLastKnownLocation is updated? I don't see a need to keep this running for my application once I have obtained a lock.. 5) Can you please confirm my assumption that "getLastKnownLocation" is updated frequently as the receiver moves? 6) In my code, I also have a class called "MyLocationListener" (code below) that I honestly just took from another example.. Is this actually needed? runs much faster. if the user did click the checkbox then the textbox where they type the specific regions shows up and it will run the query that includes the dbo.B605SaleAsOfAdvancedMaster.SDESCR in (" & TextBox1.Text & ") If you can somehow do this using parameters and not with the textbox1.text in the query it will run much faster for me thanks for your help

  • Testing ASP.NET security in Firefox

    I'm not sure whether this question belongs on StackOverflow or SuperUser, but here goes nothing... I'm trying to test out some basic security problems on my personal ASP.NET website to see exactly how the custom validators, etc. work when tampering with the data. I've been looking at the Firefox extension TamperData which seems to do the trick, but it doesn't feel very professional at all. The issues I'm having with TamperData is that the textbox for the POST data is way too small to hold the ASP.NET view-state, so I have to copy that data into Emacs and then back again to be productive at all. I also don't like that there doesn't seem to be an option to only tamper with data which is from/to localhost. Any ideas on better extensions for the task or better methods to test it?

  • .NET Regular expressions on bytes instead of chars

    Hi, I'm trying to do some parsing that will be easier using regular expressions. The input is an array (or enumeration) of bytes. I don't want to convert the bytes to chars for the following reasons: Computation efficiency Memory consumption efficiency Some non-printable bytes might be complex to convert to chars. Not all the bytes are printable. So I can't use Regex. The only solution I know, is using Boost.Regex (which works on bytes - C chars), but this is a C++ library that wrapping using C++/CLI will take considerable work. How can I use regular expressions on bytes in .NET directly, without working with .NET strings and chars? Thank you.

  • Strategies for Error Handling in .NET Web Services

    I have a fairly substantial library of web services built in .NET that I use as a data model for our company web sites. In most .NET applications I use the Global ASAX file for profiling, logging, and creating bug reports for all exceptions thrown by the application. Global ASAX isn't available for web services so I'm curious as to what other strategies people have come up with to work around this limitation. Currently I just do something along these lines: <WebMethod()> _ Public Function MyServiceMethod(ByVal code As Integer) As String Try Return processCode(code) Catch ex As Exception CustomExHandler(ex) 'call a custom function every time to log exceptions Return errorObject End Try End Function Anybody have a better way of doing things besides calling a function inside the Catch?

    Hi im calling an aps.net web service from a php service. The service searches both databases with a search parameter. Im not sure how to pass a search parameter to the asp.net service.   • ASP.NET connection pool question

    Does the same connection string used on two different physical servers hosting different web applications that talk to the same database draw connections from the same connection pool? Or are pooled connections confined to at the application level? I ask because I inherited a 7 year old .NET 1.1 web application which is riddled with in-line SQL, unclosed and undisposed sql connection and datareader objects. Recently, I was tasked to write a small web app that is hosted on another server and talks to the same database and therefore used the same database connection string. I created a LINQ object to read and write the one table required by the app. Now the original .NET 1.1 app is throwing exceptions like "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached." Maybe these are unreleated, but wanted to get your opinions to make sure I cover all my bases. Thanks!

    hi, I just started working with ASP.Net MVC 2. I created a new ASP.Net MVC application and created one vehicle controler with a database table connected with LINQ. Then created forms authentication mechanism for the application and tried to use the uri instead of cookies it was working smoothly but when i submit the form by creating a "Create" view from the controler using the utility it just dont work. The autherization got failed and asking to enter the user name and password again.I had created the authorization mechanism by adding Authorise attribute to the Controller so as to get authorized for all the actions. namespace MVCNEW.Controllers { [Authorize] public class VehicleController : Controller { But if i use the cookies instead of uri it works fine.
