• Detecting operating system or computer name through a Java servlet

  I have a Java web app that I develop on a Windows machine and will deploy on a Unix machine. There are some file path settings and permissions details that differ on the two (and there is nothing I can do to change this). Is there some way of detecting which machine the app is sitting on (it's only one of two), either by detecting the operating system or the computer's name so I can then using the appropriate settings.

  Hi, I've got a static method that accepts two object type variables and runs the CompareTo() method: public static int Compare(Object objA, Object objB) { return (((IComparable)objA).CompareTo(objB)); } Problem is that CompareTo() throws an exception when trying to compare between different types (e.g. int and double). Does any one know of a better way in C#, to compare between two different types? Or a workaround to this problem? Thanks

  Let's say that I have the following text: in = "one aaa two bbbb three cccc" I would like to parse this into a group of variables that contain notworking = ["one", "two", "three"] v1,v2,v3 = in.split(notworking) I know that the example above won't work, but is there some utility in python that would allow me to use this sort of approach? I know what the identifiers will be in advance, so I would think that there has got to be a way to do this... Thanks for any help, jml

  I'd like to restrict access to my Rails app (running on Apache/Passenger) to just two IPs, but if the visitor doesn't fall into those two IPs, I would like for him/her to be prompted to enter a password that would allow any user with the proper credentials to access the site from anywhere.   I've seen developers use two approaches when they are done with a session object. 1) Session.Remove(key) 2) Session(key) = nothing What is the better approach of the two above?   I have two classes: public abstract class AbstractFoobar { ... } and public class ConcreteFoobar extends AbstractFoobar { ... } I have corresponding test classes for these two classes: public class AbstractFoobarTest { ... } and public class ConcreteFoobarTest extends AbstractFoobarTest { ... } When I run ConcreteFoobarTest (in JUnit), the annotated @Test methods in AbstractFoobarTest get run along with those declared directly on ConcreteFoobarTest because they are inherited. Is there anyway to skip them?

  I have a UITableView with two custom cells and each of them has a subview with a UITextField inside it. I have tried adding a UIButton on top of the UITableView and have it resignFirstResponder but that just means you won't be able to tap anywhere else - not even on the UITextFields to enter text. How do I make it so if I tap outside those two UITextFields, I can call resignFirstResponder, so the user can get back to the other cells? Thanks

  I have two similar sites: - two of them have almost exactly the same codes, and running on the same server - both sites are the same, they just use different language. - database of the slower site is populated (maybe only the user table) the other tables for site content is the same - the faster uses root to access database one of the sites is not released yet, so it uses IP Address to access the site instead of domain name the site that is using IP address is faster (lot faster) the site that is using domain name is slower do you know why is this happening what could be the reason?

Is it possible to set variables that are specific to a role?   If I open two Java projects in Eclipse which depend on each other, I have to add dependencies between these two projects in the Build Path (Properties - Java build path). This works fine for one way, but why doesn't allow Eclipse to set the dependencies vice versa? The following error message occurs: A cycle was detected in the build path of project 'A' and A cycle was detected in the build path of project 'B' I know what's causing this error but i wonder why exactly this isn't allowed.
