  • IE div width + scrollbar

    - by Chris
I have a modal UI in my web app that necessitates a fixed layout design. After much fussing, I decided absolutely positioned child elements was the way to go. However, I have one div that conditionally requires a vertical scrollbar (if there's too much content). When this scrollbar is added, the width of the div seems to vary between IE 7 and IE 8. IE8 standards mode: IE7 standards mode: I haven't even tested for IE 6, but I'm sure it's even funkier. What's the simplest, least painful way to address this to arrive at a consistent UI in all major browsers?

  • How to create a drop down menu like the one displayed on Amazon?

    - by webdev_newbee
I am kind of new to web development. I am trying to create a drop down menu, something I have now is like: <select> <option value="volvo">Volvo</option> <option value="saab">Saab</option> <option value="opel">Opel</option> <option value="audi">Audi</option> </select> but this is not exactly what I want. I want to create a drop down list very similar to the one on Amazon.com (the dropdown list beside "Search"), shown in following pic. so whenever user click on the button, the list will be displayed in the button as text. Please feel free to give me any ideas. Thank you,

  • Put Raphael (SVG) canvas behind other divisions to make them clickable?

    - by Kerry
I am using Raphael to create lines between divisions in an organization chart (or flow chart), but I need to be able to actually click on the divisions and content behind it. If I could make the canvas be behind the other elements, kind of like a background image, that would be idea. Is this possible? UPDATE: I found a solution. Raphael makes an SVG canvas that is absolutely positioned in my case. Absolute positions act as layers, and so to be on top of that layer, my content had to be absolutely positioned as well. If someone else has a better solution, I would be happy to hear it, though this is working fine.

  • Issue with Z-Index and IE7

    - by Chris
I've browsed on the board and tried and bunch of these solutions and I'm still stuck. The page I'm looking at is here. In IE7, the drop downs are showing up behind the homepage content. And if you go to one of the site sections, by clicking on "Menus", they even show up behind the dynamically created side-bar. I've given the drop down a z-index of 1000 and relative positioning. On the homepage, the images have relative positioning and a small z-index (1 or 2). Any ideas?

  • background semitransparent div

    - by plasticrabbit
I want to show some dialog (absolute positioned div), and I want to show it above semitransparent 100% div, so everything on background will be dimmed. I have managed it by <div class='transpBox'></div> .transparentBox { position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; background-color: #white; opacity: 0.9; z-index: 499; } This is all right, but when dialog height is more than browser height and you scroll down, you see that transparent div is not in full screen. What is proper way to make such thing?

  • Divs not aligning side by side

    - by Abijah
I've been learning about divs over the past few months, and am now able to align divs side by side. However, today I was working on my website, and my divs suddenly stopped lining up. The divs in question are: #dorsey_left, #dorsey_middle and #dorsey_right. When I remove #dorsey_left from the HTML document, #dorsey_middle and #dorsey_right align properly. I'm guessing that the problem is related to #dorsey_left, but I can't find anything in the code. This is the JsFiddle.

  • JQuery Slideout only works on one side of the page?!

    - by Anders H
I've been working on a little slideout code and it's just been impossible. It works perfectly sliding out from the right of the page but when I reverse everything and have it slide from the left, not a chance! The exact issue is that it slides out farther than the width of it's container. Example at http://demindu.com/sandbox/slideout/. I'd certainly appreciate any tips in the right direction.

  • Search and highlight in html with multiple keywords as a single string

    - by Qiusheng
In JavaScript, by given a html string with tags like: This string has different fonts. <b>This</b> <i>string</i> <span style="background-color: rgb(212, 239, 181);">has</span> <b>different</b> <i>fonts</i>. When user searches for a search term with multiple words like "different fonts". How can I add highlighting to make the html string look like: <b>This</b> <i>string</i> <span style="background-color: rgb(212, 239, 181);">has</span> <span class="highlight"> <b>different</b> <i>fonts</i> </span>. Please note that the search term is treated as a single string as if the words are in a quote, so I cannot search and highlight each word individually.

  • vertical align img

    - by JK36
I have a div called "images" which has a width of 277px. Within that div I have 9 images in it, just stored as tags. I've got the images to float left and line up quite nicely within my div, but I would like the images to align vertically, as some are portrait and others are landscape. I know I can do this if I enclose each image in a div, but the plugin I use to launch the gallery won't recognise which image is being fired, so i need to enclose them as just within the tags. This is the code I have, if someone can help me just align the images horizontally and vertically. I don't want the images to be skewed. #images_box a { float:left; padding:9px; width: 70px; height: 70px; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle; display: table-cell; } my data <div id="images"> <a class="fancybox" rel="gallery1" href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7069/7060779347_fbee5aae15_b.jpg" title="morning after[explored] (mariosworld343)"> <img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7069/7060779347_fbee5aae15_m.jpg" alt="" /> </a> <a class="fancybox" rel="gallery1" href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7234/7047458501_46a2203733_b.jpg" title="Self confined...
